Playstyle Classification Thread

Credit to DittoCrow for the original OP. Credit to Molk and Oglemi for helping him.
Hey RU Players! The purpose of this thread is to help you to easily find Pokemon that fit a specific role you're looking for. Need a strong physical sweeper? Just take a look at the list under the roles of an offensive team. The categories will have a link to the message containing any of the Pokemon's sets that fit into the listed role.

The list is small right now, so it's your job to fill in the lists of Pokemon in each role. Suggest viable Pokemon that fit into a certain category and try to give a small explanation of what the Pokemon does and why it fits there. If you don't see a specific playstyle or role that you are looking for, please make a suggestion to add it! As this is kind of a resource and project rolled up into one, it is preferred that you only add 1-2 Pokemon in each of your posts. Here's a sample entry so you know what to include:

Offense

Revenge Killers:

Mienshao @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
  • Great base 105 Speed to outpace virtually any Speed booster
  • HJK gets boosted by Reckless and can revenge most offensive threats
  • Knock Off keeps Ghost- and Psychic-types from coming in at will. Safe move to spam
  • U-turn allows Shao to scout for checks and counters early
  • Stone Edge picks off most Fighting-type resists, especially Flying-types
  • If and when possible, include neat stuff that others in this role maybe can't do.

NOTE: If a particular set fits into multiple team types or roles, don't be afraid to cover all of the basis, but be sure to specify how it performs slightly differently in a different team type or role to help the reader better understand the differences in how the set is played.

Playstyle List:

Trick Room: Trick Room is a strange move that makes slower Pokemon go first for a short period of time. Slow, powerful Pokemon such as Aggron and Druddigon benefit from this immensely. (all Pokemon here should use a speed reducing nature with a speed Iv of 0)

Trick Room Setters:

Trick Room Sweepers:

Rain: Rain teams take advantage of the rain weather condition through abilities like Swift Swim, the boost that rain gives to Water-type moves, and the ability to use 100% accurate Thunders and Hurricanes.

Rain Setters:

Rain Abusers:

Sun: Sun teams take advantage of the sun weather condition through abilities like Chlorophyll, the boost that sun gives to Fire-type moves, and the ability to use Solar Beam without the charge-up turn.

Sun Setters:

Sun Abusers:

VoltTurn: VoltTurn is a strategy that puts pressure on the opponent by constantly dealing damage and switching out through the usage of Volt Switch and U-turn.

Volt Switch Users:

U-turn Users:

Rapid Spinners/Defoggers:

Hazard Setters:

Niche Roles: These Pokemon play a very niche or unique role that can't be attributed to one type of team. Other Pokemon will usually be chosen before these are considered, but they can fit onto very specific types of teams.

I know it's not necessarily my place to say, but is there really a need for this thread? It seems remarkably similar to the already existent RU Teambuilding thread, with minor specifications. I understand the goal is to help newer players understand roles in the meta, but it seems to be repetitive to have both threads.

Banned deucer.
I agree, the only difference between this thread and the RU Teambuilding thread is the list of playstyles. If you really want to classify a Pokemon into fitting a particular playstyle, just ask TRC. to include it in the existing thread.
