Project What's Their Last?

Trapinch, though Diglett and Porygon both come a close second. Having used this team a bit on the ladder, I can confirm that my entry sucks :D

Congrats to Berks for winning with his Trapinch! The actual last was Porygon, so kudos to Infamy for getting that.

I will be on vacation for the next three weeks, so this project will be on hiatus for now. If you'd like it to continue, I know Fiend gave me a team, so if you want to continue it go for it, if not see y'all in three weeks! :)

Seeing as my good friend Cheek Pouch is on vacation and I'm finally back from mine, I'll be keeping this alive until he gets back!

Week 9

Gastly @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 116 Def / 196 SpA / 196 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Substitute

Timburr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
Level: 5
EVs: 116 Atk / 156 Def / 236 SpD
Careful Nature
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Mach Punch
- Bulk Up

Foongus @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
EVs: 124 HP / 156 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Spore
- Stun Spore

This team features Calm Mind Spritzee and Bulk Up Timburr as two potent win conditions. Both find support in Gastly, which puts heavy pressure on Pokemon such as Foongus and other Spritzee. Chinchou joins the team because I built the team and to further increase its speed and to provide insurance against frail wallbreakers such as Abra and Gastly. Foongus joins the squad as a sort of panic button check to a number of threats; it runs dual Spores in order to provide speed control for the team's two slow win conditions.
But... What's Their Last?

Despite being a general meh pokemon, this team has a crippling weakness to Gastly--which only has to play around Scarf Chinchou and win a speed tie versus Gastly to sweep. Pursuit trapping Gastly also allows for both sweepers to have an easier time in the matchup, something just Scarf Chou doesn't really do. Defog means you don't get totally animated by hazard stack either. Even when mostly useless (ie no Spikes, Abra, Gastly, Pumpkaboo), Stunky makes great Sleep Fodder, soft checks Fletchling, Pawniard, and Ferroseed, and doesn't really give any sweeper you can't deal with turns to set up!

Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 116 HP / 76 Atk / 236 Def / 76 SpD
Impish Nature

This team needs a gastly and abra check along with hazard removal and unlike fiends mon can absorb spores and can work in match other than sleep fodder without abra/gastly on the opps team

munchlax is clearly the best option here. lets run through the pros and cons of using munchlax:

pros:
  • cute
  • beats gastly
  • not gay
  • pursuit rhymes with cute
  • beats abra
  • much needed bulk
  • beats snovanha
  • beats snivy
  • beats gothita
  • beats vulpix
  • bob marley

cons:
  • ???
  • 4x weak to hamburglary

unless you are dumb you see that munchlax is clearly the best option here.

Team needs a dark. Atm literally gets 5-0ed if stallbreaker gothita gets in on Foonguss btw.

Stunky makes sense. But a real ground immunity would be nice in terms of getting around mold breaker drill. So I guess I'd go Vullaby.

This team desperately needs something to get rid of drilbur and also a means to deal with gastly so pursuit diglett would be a cool idea. (Obviously it needs a little bit of prior damage on drilbur to trap it but it's not hard to get.)

Diglett @ Life Orb

And the winner is... Infamy with is Munchlax! The actual last was Fletchling!

Week 10

This team revolves around a VoltTurn core of Magnemite and Fletchling, with the added bonus of Parting Shot Pancham. Scarf Magnemite's excellent offensive presence keeps opponents on their toes as they have to avoid powerful Thunderbolts and Flash Cannons while attempting not to sacrifice momentum to a Volt Switch. Pancham serves as a solid Fighting-type and good momentum grabber with Parting Shot while also giving the the team Knock Off support. Fletchling serves as the teams primary win-condition with its tried and true Swords Dance set. Porygon and Spritzee make up an excellent defensive backbone and support the team with paralysis and healing, respectively. (names in import are from A Separate Peace)

Leper (Magnemite) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Analytic

Well logically this is either a bad team, or the last mon is a wallbreaker or knock off pokemon in an effort to support Fletchling. I'm leaning towards it being a bad team as:
  • This team is really annoyed by Vullaby (thought it doesn't auto win)
  • No fire resist
  • CM Goth gets two kills
  • Obliterated by Goth+Dark-type
  • No water resist
  • The Webs matchup is kinda laughable
  • LO Abra gets a kill
  • Gastly is barely handled
  • Look at hazard stack versus this team
The presences of Gunk Shot on Panda as well as Magnemite and no fire resist makes it being Pawniard unlikely. The lack of ZHB does make Vullaby mildly appealing. Nothing is really great for this team though Vullaby seems kinda like the try-to-fix-all for the team.

Vullaby @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 116 HP / 76 Atk / 236 Def / 76 SpD
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Knock Off
- Brave Bird
- Defog

Has Knock Off to help the team, Defog to help hazards matchups, support via parting shot and Aroma to aid in longevity, and a tad of speed to help against slow teams. Vulla can also handle Gastly a bit, and makes Non-D Gleam Abra cry. Also half support Magnemite remove Chinchou.
