What's Their Last?

A long time ago, back when DPP was the current gen, and there was no team preview, the above question was often asked. You had to be prepared for anything in that last slot and use your deductive teambuilding skills to figure out just what your opponent was saving in the back. Still today, we can use these skills to better build our own teams. When building, there will be times when you have 5 perfect Pokemon. Mons that fit together so well that you just can't seem to pick a final Pokemon. Or sometimes you have a crippling weakness to a major threat and can't think of a mon that will cover it that fits the team. This project aims to let the community figure out what the best last Pokemon would be for a given team of 5.

Every round, I will post a team that is missing one Pokemon. You guys will then post suggestions for the final mon. Over the next few days, these nominations will be discussed among the users until voting begins. Once the vote starts, people will choose the last mon that they think fits the rest of the team best. At the end of the round, the Pokemon with the most votes will be the winner! The team will be archived, and the user who suggested the set will have his or her name alongside the team. Think of this as a lesson in team building!

RULES:
1. Standard forum rules apply. No flaming/antagonizing please. Also no one liners please.
2. No joke sets. Sets that are plain bad/unviable are not welcome.
3. No slashing in your suggestions. You can't have 5 moves in a battle, why here?
4. Only one nomination per person, per round. Can't suggest more than one mon.
5. No changing the other members of the team, INCLUDING SETS. Only I can change the team and movesets.
6. Voting for your own nomination is NOT ALLOWED.
7. Please PM me if you have a team you would like featured!
8. If someone else has nominated a Pokemon, it's off limits for you.

FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES MAY GET YOU REMOVED FROM THE ABILITY TO CONTRIBUTE.

This week's team focuses around a Corphish and Gothita core. Swords Dance Corphish has trouble breaking through bulky Water- and Grass-types, such as Chinchou, Skrelp, Foongus, and Ferroseed. Gothita can effectively trap and KO these Pokemon while providing extra support with Trick. Timburr serves as a secondary win-condition, benefiting from Corphish's wallbreaking potential. Corphish forms a great Water-spam core with Skrelp, allowing the two to wear each others' checks down. Pawniard was chosen as the Stealth Rock user, and with STAB Knock Off, can remove opposing items to further help a sweep from Corphish or Timburr...
But what's their last?

Right so, the current team looks like something straight out of melon's book judging by how it stacks Gothita and Diglett weaknesses like there's no tomorrow, and it's also weak to Magnemite. Trapinch happens to be fantastic in ADV LC so it's probably good here, too. Here it traps Diglett (even Beat Up variants!), Gothita, Magnemite, and Abra, all of which 6-0 the team otherwise. The EVs are to avoid the OHKO from scarfchou's hpump because the team is weak to that as well. Superpower is run over Toxic because CM Spritzee does 0 to the team.

i too have access to the tynamo's dynamo's team chat; it's Starm BA waterspam with timburr over pancham. volt switches that force in grasses weaken them to the point where goth can trap - alternatively, sac one of your three waters if the fear of diglett prevents vswitch (prolly good here especially with the second wincon in timburr). more checks to fletch w/ scarfchou and a decent thing for abra ig.

You know what's better than two water types and two Ground weak mons? Three! Since at the moment Magnemite has a field day and Fletchling only needs Pawniard dead (which is less difficult when it's running 236 Atk) let's add in a chou who can deal with them. Scarf because I'm not a huge fan of Diglett threatening to take out both Skrelp and Chinchou.

Okay Porygon is the only mon I can think off to keep Chinchou and Abra at bay and it also serves as an addtiional Fletch Check since Pawniard isn't that reliable in that role.

EDIT: Can also revenge kill diglett who's a major pain to this team.

What a beautiful face, I have found in this place
Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs

EVs: 84 HP / 36 Atk / 188 Def / 148 SpD / 36 Spe

Ferroseed brings another SR user and is generally annoying with Twave and Knock off support to help the corphish sweep. Its weaknesses are gotten rid of through Gothita and water spam so that makes it even better. Checks chinchou and magnemite and is just annoying to the enemy.

From a defensive point of view, you have a large weakness to ground and electric and would like a resist. A grass type does this, and also breaks through bulky waters which wall corphish and Skrelp. I would suggest Snivy for this:

Move 1
Move 2
Move 3
Move 4
Item
Ability
Nature
  • Timid
EVs
  • 240 SpA
  • 252 Spe
This is copy-pasted from the strategy dex, if you can tell. ;). I went for the substitute set due to you probably wanting a set-up Mon over an immediate wallbreaker.

Magnemite @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Analytic
Level: 5
EVs: 240 SpA / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Thunderbolt

Magnemite provides the team with another fletch check and a *shaky* check to stuff like opposing chou. In the context of this team it's not terrible in that role, as opposing scarf chou for example will freely be clicking volt switch more often than not, as locking itself into hpump/hp ground would render it setup bait for corph and friends. Scarf Mag is used because outspeeding stuff like Diglett and Abra is preferable. Analytic boosts Volt Switch damage against its non-immune switch-ins, notably Grass-types, weakening them for Corphish, and also allows Magnemite to punish opposing Chinchou switch-ins much harder with Hidden Power Ground.
