[OVERVIEW]

Virizion's STAB combination and useful coverage let it threaten common defensive cores, making it surprisingly difficult to pivot around. Its fantastic natural special bulk shouldn't be ignored either, as it lets Virizion switch into Heliolisk and bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon and Vaporeon, potentially letting it safely set up. Its Speed tier gives it an advantage on premier Pokemon like Silvally-Ground, Toxicroak, and non-Choice Scarf Rotom-C, but it remains slower than other staples like Talonflame, Salazzle, and Tauros. Despite its offensive coverage, its lackluster Attack stat often requires a turn to Swords Dance for it to break through most teams. Common checks such as Vileplume, Talonflame, and Salazzle can switch in against Virizion's STAB moves and force it to switch, thwarting a Swords Dance sweep. Virizion also faces strong competition with other Fighting-types like Toxicroak and Passimian that hit harder, as well as Grass-types like Tsareena, Rotom-C, and Dhelmise that offer more utility.

Virizion is able to set up Swords Dance quite easily thanks to its great defensive typing and natural bulk. Life Orb helps compensate for Virizion's poor unboosted power, whereas Lum Berry allows it to safely set up against opposing Mudsdale or Vaporeon, which may try to use Toxic or fish for a Scald burn. Stone Edge gives boosted Virizion the upper hand against Flying-types like Xatu and Mantine while also OHKOing Talonflame unboosted on the switch. Zen Headbutt lets Virizion hit Weezing, Garbodor, and Vileplume super effectively.

Virizion wiping Steel-types and Ground-types help teammates like Indeedee-F, Exploud, and Heliolisk, which are held back by those Pokemon and help beat Poison-types in return. Flying-types often force Virizion out; a fast Electric-type like Rotom-C or Heliolisk works well to scare off the Flying-types but also bring Virizion back in with Volt Switch. Rock-types like Diancie, Stakataka, and Aerodactyl are also good to have as defensive Flying-type answers. Virizion's ability to revenge kill wallbreakers like Silvally-Ground, Drapion after some chip damage, and Toxicroak gives much needed breathing room for Steel-types like Assault Vest Copperajah and Stakataka. Virizion appreciates teammates that switch in on faster threats like Salazzle and Starmie, including both bulky Water-types like Gastrodon, Mantine, and Vaporeon as well as offensive Water-types like Starmie and Inteleon. If you choose Life Orb over Lum Berry, it is best to have a cleric like Sylveon, Vaporeon, or Diancie; the first two also have Wish to heal the entry hazards and Life Orb damage that Virizion will take.

Synthesis can be used in place of Swords Dance to give Virizion longevity; this, in tandem with a Rocky Helmet, would let Virizion serve as a great Silvally-Ground check. Virizion can make use of Calm Mind with Giga Drain or Leaf Storm, Focus Blast, and Air Slash, but it doesn't beat anything that the Swords Dance set doesn't besides Vileplume and Dhelmise, whereas Swords Dance better deals with Mantine, Snorlax, and Assault Vest Copperajah.

Checks and Counters
====

**Flying-types**: Both of Virizion's STAB types are resisted by Flying. Mantine and Talonflame can both tank a hit and retaliate with their 4x effective Flying-type moves. Talonflame and Aerodactyl are both faster than Virizion, giving them the advantage against even boosted Virizion one-on-one.

**Poison-types**: Similarly to Flying-types, Poison-types resist both of Virizion's STAB types. Weezing, Garbodor, and Vileplume can wall all of Virizion's attacks while also lowering its Attack with Will-O-Wisp or Strength Sap, or even removing Life Orb with Corrosive Gas.

**Faster Wallbreakers**: While Virizion has a great Speed tier, it is slower than a few wallbreakers that can revenge kill it. Tauros and Salazzle are naturally faster, while Passimian and Indeedee-F use Choice Scarf to outspeed.

[OVERVIEW]

In a tier littered with cores consisting of a Ground-type, Water-type, and Steel-type Virizion shines as a threatening sweeper with high potential. this is superfluously written. Virizion's offensive STAB combination lets it threaten common defensive cores with great complementing coverage and overall set diversity, making it surprisingly difficult to pivot around. Its speed tier gives it an advantage on premier Pokemon like Silvally-Ground, Toxicroak, and non-Choice Scarf Rotom-Mow, but it remains slower than other staples like Talonflame, Salazzle, and Choice Scarf Indeedee-F Tauros Mentioning that Rotom-Mow outspeeds Virizion with a Choice Scarf makes it redundant to mention another Scarfer in the same sentence when the point is that naturally faster Pokemon exist. Its fantastic base 129 Special Defense isn't anything you should ignore as it gives Virizion a chance to switch into opposing Heliolisk, special Decidueye too niche, and Vaporeon bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Gastrodon to threaten them out. However However what? Despite its great offensive coverage, its lackluster Attack stat often requires a turn to set up Swords Dance since SD is the only listed set I figured you might as well specify, also will follow up in the next sentence to be able to break most teams. The Common offensive checks such as Vileplume, Talonflame, and Salazzle don't help either as they will explain why they "they don't help" can switch in against Virizion's STAB moves and force Virizion it to switch, often giving them a free turn to pivot or set up thwarting a Swords Dance sweep. Virizion has to face strong competition with other Fighting-types like Toxicroak and Passimian who hit harder as well as Grass-types like Tsareena, Rotom-Mow, and Dhelmise who which pokemon are tools of war not people have offer more utility.

Virizion doesn't have it easy with 90 base Attack, so it makes great use of Swords Dance and Life Orb. Virizion finds itself able to set up Swords Dance quite easily thanks to its great defensive typing and natural bulk. Lum Berry has its niche as it allows Virizion to safely set up against opposing Mudsdale or Vaporeon who may try to use Toxic or fish for a Scald Burn. Stone Edge gives Virizion the upper hand against Flying-types like Xatu and Mantine while also OHKOing Talonflame on the switch. Zen Headbutt lets Virizion hit Weezing and Vileplume with super effective damage.

Due to Virizion's ability to wipe out all Steel-types and Ground-types, Pokemon like Indeedee-F, Exploud, and Heliolisk work well with Virizion as they are held back by those Pokemon and help beat the few Poison-types that roam the tier. Flying-types often force Virizion out due to their STAB, so a fast Electric-type like Rotom-Mow or Heliolisk works well to scare off the Flying-types but also bring Virizion back in with Volt Switch or U-turn I know Heliolisk can use U-Turn but it often doesn't and doesn't really sell the point any harder than Volt Switch here. Virizion's ability to revenge kill wallbreakers like Silvally-Ground, Drapion after some chip, and Toxicroak gives much needed breathing room for Steel-types like Assault Vest Copperajah and Stakataka while also freeing some space for Sylveon and Diancie You mention these clerics later and it fits better there. Virizion appreciates teammates that switch-in on faster threats like Salazzle and Starmie which gives it some synergy with bulky Water-types like Gastrodon, Mantine, and Sylveon Vaporeon , while Rock-types like Diancie, Stakataka, and Aerodactyl relieve Virizion of its 4x Flying-type weakness. If you choose Life Orb over Lum Berry it is best to have a cleric like Sylveon, Vaporeon, and Diancie to cure any status and heal the passive damage like hazards and Life Orb damage that Virizion will take. Virizion's naturally high Special Defense allows it to take Special moves without much thought, but it has a mediocre Defense stat, so physically Defensive walls like Mudsdale, Vileplume, and Stakataka can aid Virizion. super broad statement given Virizion's physical bulk is fine enough and it even takes on Silvally-Ground the best physical attacker in the tier. Talonflame and the uncommon Arcanine cause trouble for Virizion due to their Fire-typing, giving Inteleon and Starmie a job alongside Virizion who beats the Water Immune Vaporeon, Mantine, and Gastrodon for them. You don't have to delete this but condense it with the previous part about bulky Water-types.

Synthesis can be used in place of Swords Dance to swap Virizion's role from a sweeper to a breaker(frankly I would not call the base 90 Attack Pokemon a wallbreaker especially if we're running Rocky Helmet on it) with its own form of longevity, this, in tandem with a Rocky Helmet, would let Virizion serve as a great Silvally-Ground check. Virizion can make use of Calm Mind with Giga Drain or Leaf Storm, Focus Blast, and Air Slash, however it doesn't beat anything that the Swords Dance set does besides Vileplume and Dhelmise.(the pushback given here is pretty lacking I feel; it'd be better to list some common Pokemon that SD sets stand a better chance against that CM sets simply don't beat consistently)

Checks and Counters
====

**Flying-types**: Both of Virizion's STABs are resisted by Flying-type Pokemon. Mantine, Xatu, and Talonflame can all tank a hit and retaliate with an Air Slash or Brave Bird.(Mantine doesn't really run Air Slash, Xatu never runs Flying-type attacks) Talonflame and Aerodactyl are both faster than Virizion, giving them the advantage in a 1v1 situation.

**Poison-types**: Similarly to Flying-types, Poison-types resist both of Virizion's STABs. Weezing and Vileplume can wall all of Virizion's attacks while also lowering its Attack with Will-O-Wisp or Strength Sap, or even removing Life Orb with Corrosive Gas. (like earlier, I think throwing a mention of Garbodor would work fine here)

**Faster Breakers**: While Virizion has a great speed tier, it is slower than a few wallbreakers that can revenge it. Tauros and Salazzle are naturally faster while Passimian and Indeedee-F use Choice Scarf to outspeed.
