Congrats Jordy and Veez for winning this week's submissions!
:sm/mawile-mega:
Mawile-Mega @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 144 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch

Substitute Mega Mawile is pretty nice to lure Steel-types and its coverage allows it to hit Toxapex & Skarmory, as well as bulky Grass- and Ground-types. The set does make Mawile lose to other things tho, but what are they? Submissions end in a week!

mega venusaur

:sm/Venusaur-Mega:
Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 68 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fire
- Synthesis

Mega Venusaur
is a solid answer to Mega Mawile as it resists most of the common moves carried by Mega Mawile.
Mega Venusaur completely nullifies this particular set of Mawile as it resists both focus punch and thunder punch
as well as neutralises the damage done by ice punch thanks to its amazing ability in thick fat. Mega Venusaur not
only easily breaks Mega Mawiles substitute but also can easily 3 Ohko it with hidden power fire. Its recovery move in
synthesis allows it to pretty much counter Mawile throughout the course of the entire game.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 172+ Def Thick Fat Venusaur-Mega: 102-122 (28 - 33.5%) -- 95.2% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Focus Punch vs. 252 HP / 172+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 102-120 (28 - 32.9%) -- 93% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 172+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 51-60 (14 - 16.4%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 144 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 108-128 (38.9 - 46.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Volcarona @ Buginium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 112 Def / 148 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Flamethrower
- Bug Buzz
- Roost

Flame Body cripples M-Mawiles attack stat. Flamethrower does 95.3% - 112.6% to Mawile. Nominated as a check as Thunder Punch does 50.4 - 59.5% to Volcarona.

Clefable @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Soft-Boiled

The anti-meta balance breaker returns to scare the meta balance breaker. LO Clef outspeeds MMaw and nabs it with Fire Blast or Flamethrower. Although Maw can set Sub on the switch, it fails to OHKO Clef without Play Rough. For the sake of accounting for everything, this is a check.

Reuniclus @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Recover

Because of the inability to 2HKO Reuniclus, Mega Mawile is forced to fish for a freeze against Reuniclus while constantly being worn down by Rocky Helmet as Reuniclus uses Recover.

Buzzwole @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 Spe
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Bulk Up
- Roost

Buzzwole takes very little against Sub Punch Mawile since it lacks Play Rough and can use it as set up fodder and begin setting up with Bulk Up, and has access to recover with Roost , so if it ever gets worn down it can recover back into a good health making it a strong counter against this Mawile set.

The thing about this set, as alluded to in the original post, is that it can beat Pokemon it normally couldn't, like Heatran (on the switch for free substitute or focus punch), but it can longer beat some Pokemon it would check with more standard sets, such as:

Sableye-Mega @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball
- Recover
- Protect

This set easily walls Mega Mawile lacking play rough and iron head. Thunder punch could be a problem with Koko support, but I'm not sure if that's commonly paired with Sub Mawile. If so, protect can help stall out electric terrain.

I understand that play rough is on almost every set, but we just need to check this one set, right?

:Mew:
Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Will-O-Wisp
- Defog
- Roost

Seeing as this Mega Mawile set lacks Play Rough, Mew comes in easily avoiding the 2HKO from all of Maw's moves and threatens it out with the threat of Wisp burning it, as well as having EQ which can do a solid 50ish% chip to Maw and guarantees that you can break its subs. This thing is basically the closest to a hard counter that you can get, as it actually outspeeds and directly threatens Mega Maw in addition to eating its attacks.

Grats Katy and HiddenPower23 for winning with Mega Venusaur and Volcarona!

Week 11
With the ongoing Smogon Snake Draft, several Pokemon have risen in popularity, one of them being this:
:sm/Victini:
Victini @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- U-turn
- Final Gambit
- Trick
Due to V-Create, Victini forces many switches, and with Final Gambit it can severely weaken or even take down a supposed check like Mega Latias, Toxapex, and Heatran, making it quite obnoxious to play around until the set is known, by then Victini would have already used Final Gambit. This allows teammates like Kartana and Magearna to sweep more easily with these Pokemon crippled or weakened. While Ghost-types can block Final Gambit, there is just a lack of viable Ghost-types in the tier, and with teambuilding being restricted due to the amount of high level threats, Choice Scarf Victini can really put a dent on many teams.

What do you think is a good answer to this set? Let us see your submissions before next Thursday!

mega slowbro

:sm/Slowbro-Mega:
Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 164 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off
- Flamethrower

Mega Slowbro is a nice defensive answer to Choice Scarf Victini as Victini cannot break through it with its STAB option in V-Create as it won't do much on Mega Slowbro.
Mega Slowbro can come in on Victini at almost any time, even on a U-Turn as its Defense is high enough to tank a U-Turn from Victini, furthermore Mega Slowbro won't have to
Mega immediately so it can keep Regenerator as its Ability prior to mega to check Victini more easily. Trick also won't work on it, as its Mega-Sone is attached to Slowbro.
The only thing Mega Slowbro has to fear is a Final Gambit, but in overall Slowbro mega is a very good defensive answer to Victini and takes nothing from its Attacks thus
Slowbro Mega is able to wall it and with Scald it is able to get rid of Victini. Because of those reasons and the multiple ways of Mega Slowbro to heal itself during the entire game with Regenerator prior to mega and with Slack Off it is a good check to Victini.

Calcs:
Victini / Mega Bro:
252 Atk Victini V-create vs. 248 HP / 96+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 63-74 (16 - 18.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock
Victini Final Gambit vs. 248 HP Slowbro-Mega: 341-341 (86.7 - 86.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Victini U-turn vs. 248 HP / 96+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 68-80 (17.3 - 20.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 216-254 (63.3 - 74.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 40-48 (11.7 - 14%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 40-48 (11.7 - 14%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock

Victini / Regular Bro:
252 Atk Victini V-create vs. 248 HP / 96+ Def Slowbro: 93-111 (23.6 - 28.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
Victini Final Gambit vs. 248 HP Slowbro: 341-341 (86.7 - 86.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Victini U-turn vs. 248 HP / 96+ Def Slowbro: 100-118 (25.4 - 30%) -- 2.9% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 170-204 (49.8 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Slowbro Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 32-38 (9.3 - 11.1%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Slowbro Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 32-38 (9.3 - 11.1%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Toxic

Counter. TankChomp’s punishes all contact with 30% recoil which FG is super weak if Tini U-turns first. Chomp won’t mind being Tricked a Scarf too. It can also hit it with a STAB EQ or set up Rocks to punish Victini later.

Mimikyu @Ghostium Z
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Play Rough
- Shadow Claw

Mimikyu can beat Victini with a strong Never-Ending Nightmare. Shadow Sneak punishs the defense drop from V-Create.Also immune to Final Gambit and Trick.

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Mega Tyranitar is an amazing counter against Scarf Victini as it immune to trick switch thanks to Mega Stones and takes very little from V-Create and U-Turn only worrying about Final Gambit , however, Victini will be taking chip from Sandstorm and hazards which decreases the power of Final Gambit , also Tyranitar can pursuit trap victini whenever it gets a free turn in or trying to u turn out of tyranitar.

I don't think anything that's a non-offensive check with less than 101 base invested HP should be considered. The whole point of final gambit & trick is that you just cheese through what your opponent thinks is a safe swap. Between this set and the threat of band or z celebrate, this broken Mon applies so much pressure the first time it comes in. Kinda bogus that it can lead and click final Gambit, and all viable sash users get uturned on. The only real defensive answers in the game are like Arceus, giratina o, and sticky hold gastrodon.

- Rest

Take nothing from vcreate, uturn and trick. Technically survives final Gambit and can rest to recover. Even better with rain support
