LANTURN

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Protect
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Amnesia/Agility

Lanturn is one of my favorite Mons, and that does not mean that he is an excellent special defender. Lanturn is immune to Thunder from Thundurus thanks to his ability and has no problem holding an HP Ice. Finally Lanturn thanks to its bulk due to the special part can perfectly support a Focus Blast.

Focus Blast Damage:
36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Lanturn: 115-136 (25.3 - 29.9%) -- 0.1% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

HP Ice Damage:
36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Lanturn: 34-40 (7.4 - 8.8%) -- possibly the worst move ever

And as if it were not enough, Lanturn has access to Amnesia that increases its Spd to +2 and with Protect he can PP Stall the PPs of Focus Blast and recover 6% from leftovers. Or outspeed Thundurus after a Agility.

Focus Blast after Amnesia:
36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Focus Blast vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Lanturn: 58-69 (12.7 - 15.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever

And because Lanturn has access to Ice beam / Icy Wind it can easily liquidate Thundurus.

Ice Beam Damage:
0 SpA Lanturn Ice Beam vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 132-156 (40.6 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!

Celebi
Celebi has many roles, but this time I will use the special defense. Celebi is blessed to have a good moveset and has a good spread, Thundurus Thunder is not very effective against him, Focus Blast is also not very effective, Celebi can break Thundurus Substitute with Psychic, finally HP Ice holds up well, we have Recover and Light Screen to hold it even better.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 SpD / 36 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Light Screen
- Psychic
- Recover
- Baton Pass

HP Ice damage

36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 236+ SpD Celebi: 114-136 (28.2 - 33.6%) -- 94.1% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

With Light Screen

36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 236+ SpD Celebi through Light Screen: 57-68 (14.1 - 16.8%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery

Focus Blast damage

36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 236+ SpD Celebi: 49-58 (12.1 - 14.3%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Finally, the Psychic damage

0 SpA Celebi Psychic vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 118-139 (36.3 - 42.7%) -- 95.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Sub CM Latias
Latias_NB_variocolor.gif

Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Dragon Pulse
- Substitute
I didn't want to go for something very specific to take the given set of Thundurus, so I came with something more standar, Latias dual type on Dragon/Psychic allows to take electric stab and Fighting coverage from Thundurus, HP Ice could be problematic but Latias great natural bulk let it take some hits and have enought time to use Thundurus as a set up folder by spamming Calm Mind and Substitute, acces to a reliable recovery on Roost/Recovery and also it naturally outspeed Thundurus, allowing Latias to work as a direct Switch, a Set Up sweeper and Wincon for the game. Taking in count all this factors I find Sub CM Latias as a Counter to the given Thundurus set.
:thundurus-therian: ---> :latias:
36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 126-150 (34.6 - 41.2%) -- 70.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Hidden Power Ice vs. +1 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 84-100 (23 - 27.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
:latias: ---> :thundurus-therian:
0 SpA Latias Dragon Pulse vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 127-150 (39 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 0 SpA Latias Dragon Pulse vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 190-225 (58.4 - 69.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Earthquake
- Scald
- Toxic
- Recover

Gastrodon is a natural Thundurus-T check thanks to its electric immunity and great natural special bulk being 111 base hp and 82 base sp. def. Gastro is safe to switch into Thundy as the thundy set mentioned will have to crit focus blast and then depending on rolls will have to hit another focus blast or have to get a drop with focus blast and hit another blast to 2HKO max def gastro even with rocks up. This is one a mouthful and two quite unlikely to happen. Since this set doesn't carry nasty plot or the less common grass knot gastrodon will be under no pressure and can spam recover against thundurus-t potentially wasting focus blast pp needed against ttar, excadrill, ferro for example.

I worked out the probability of a focus blast crit or drop plus another focus blast to be ~8% but then i realised that hp ice might finish off gastro after a crit so i gave up.

36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 158-186 (37 - 43.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon on a critical hit: 316-372 (74.1 - 87.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

36+ SpA Thundurus-Therian Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 92-109 (21.5 - 25.5%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Gastrodon will always break Thundurus-T's sub with scald and in rain will 2hko after rocks. Gastro can also threaten to toxic either thundy itself or a potential switch-in (though with ferrothorn being a common partner its most likely best just to continue scalding) as there is very little risk if thundy subs. Gastro also sometimes carries ice beam which could 2hko from 100%.

0 SpA Gastrodon Scald vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 97-115 (29.8 - 35.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Gastrodon Scald vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian in Rain: 145-172 (44.6 - 52.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Gastrodon Ice Beam vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 154-182 (47.3 - 56%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

I only consider Gastrodon a check because if you let gastro get toxiced by a politoad or tentacruel the thundurus could stall you out with subs. Another scenario is that gastro usually has to check other pokemon that are paired with thundy like keldeo for example and together with hazards its possible to wear gastro down enough.

So silly me forgot to post voting, so that’s open now and you can vote until Sunday

In the meantime, this weeks victim is DPP CM Clefable

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Soft-Boiled

Have fun!

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 232 HP / 96 Def / 180 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Recover
- Waterfall

- Earthquake

Gastrdon is becoming an increasingly common counter to Clefable among DPP players. The idea is pretty self explanatory you switch into all Clefable sets without much punishment and after just 3 Curse boosts you can 3HKO even Max Defense Bold Clefable successfully winning the one on one. An added bonus of this set and what sets it apart from other Clefable counters is not being easily trapped by Dugtrio which is one of the more common Clefable partners.

Damage Calcs
+3 0 Atk Gastrodon Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 202-238 (51.2 - 60.4%) -- 91.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+1 4 SpA Clefable Ice Beam vs. 236 HP / 200+ SpD Gastrodon: 76-90 (18 - 21.3%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

Thanks for reading enjoy the rest of your day, all hail the slug! :psyglad:

To be honest, we can list a plethora of standard checks to CM Clefable in DPP, from Band Ttar to Machamp, Jirachi, or even SpéDef Boom Heatran. However, I decided to present a more funny and uncommon set I created some months ago:

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 240 SpA / 56 SpD / 212 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Psych Up
- Thunderbolt
- Substitute
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Thanks to Psych Up, you can copy the boost and so wall it while threatening it with a boosted thunderbolt. Thanks to this spread, Magnezone optimizes his chance of 2HKO Clefable while ensuring Clefable has very low chances of breaking your sub:

4 SpA Clefable Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 56 SpD Magnezone: 31-36 (11 - 12.8%) -- 12.9% chance to 2HKO
240+ SpA Magnezone Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable: 186-219 (47.2 - 55.5%) -- 17.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Obviously, Subsitute prevents you from being frozen/ paralysed / destroyed by a crit and gives you a free move after the death of clefable. Thanks to the speed invstement, you can outspeed Crocune and copy his boosts too. Mimic is an option too, but I personnaly prefer Psych Up.

Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!

slowbro-mega

:ss/slowbro-mega:
Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Iron Defense
- Slack Off

clearly hardcounters mega-zard-x because it has the necessary tools to tank its attacks (iron defense and shell armor) and slack off to stay healthy during the game. furthermore it has regenerator prior to its mega-evolution to stay healthy during the game as well. calm mind boosts its special defense and special attack and a neutral scald hits mega-zard-x really hard after 1 boost due to calm mind.

calcs:
252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 80+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 66-78 (16.7 - 19.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Dragon Claw vs. 252 HP / 80+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 88-105 (22.3 - 26.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 80+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 99-117 (25.1 - 29.6%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Dragon Claw vs. 252 HP / 80+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 132-156 (33.5 - 39.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 124-147 (41.7 - 49.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 186-219 (62.6 - 73.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Diamond Storm
- Heal Bell
- Sharpen
- Psych Up

This set beats DD Zard X very handily, thanks to its fairy typing, excellent defense stat of 150, resistance to flare blitz, and the last move, Psych Up.

Coming in on a Dragon Dance from this Zard X, you can Psych Up on it to turn the tables and get +1 to your attack instead.

+1 252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Diancie: 102-121 (33.6 - 39.9%) -- 92.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Charizard-Mega-X Dragon Claw vs. Diancie: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+1 8 Atk Diancie Diamond Storm vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 296-350 (99.6 - 117.8%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Unboosted Diamond Storm also 2HKOes, and Heal Bell is in case you get burned. You can also feel free to run a mega stone and OHKO Zard X without the +1, but this doesn't use up a mega slot.

8 Atk Diancie-Mega Diamond Storm vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 300-354 (101 - 119.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

For the instance in which they don't DD and try to PP stall you instead, you can click the 3rd move, Sharpen.

You never specified which generation, so I can't vote. Then again, I don't recognize Mega Evolutions as being part of Pokémon, so I wouldn't have voted anyway.
