Baxcalibur's unban has now gone live on the main Showdown server, meaning that the Baxcalibur suspect test is now live!

np: Interview - Baxcalibur Suspect Test
:sm/baxcalibur:

Baxcalibur, one of the strongest Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, was banned in VaporeMons all the way back in September before DLC1 dropped, being banned here even before it was banned in OU. While Baxcalibur itself hasn't changed much in VaporeMons, especially not in the months since its ban, VaporeMons itself certainly has, enough to give it another chance!

In spite of Baxcalibur's absence from VaporeMons for the last four months, a number of extremely relevant changes to VaporeMons seemed almost tailormade to balance the ice dinosaur. From the likes of Water/Fairy Water Veil Milotic (and a second Milotic with phazing in Primarina), to Skarmory being better here than in OU, and especially Light Clay's ban after DLC1, it should theoretically be easier than ever to both defensively and offensively answer Baxcalibur, especially with options that were used to beat it in the past still being viable like Crabominable, Magnezone, and Booster Energy Iron Valiant. Additionally, without Terastalization to help it set up in a world without Light Clay, and its reliance on Loaded Dice to become such a terrifying sweeper, Baxcalibur's awful defensive typing and Stealth Rock weakness limit its setup opportunities in a huge way. Lastly, while Baxcalibur's option to boost Speed clearly gives it a use over its competition, the role of an Ice-type breaker is very comfortably in the hands of Weavile and Kyurem right now, with the possibility of Baxcalibur's previously broken self having to actually compete for a teamslot being real.

However, Baxcalibur is still an absolute menace in multiple ways, making this suspect test not as clear cut as you might think. Baxcalibur was banned before DLC1, meaning that it was wrecking havoc on the VaporeMons metagame without even having Scale Shot yet, having to settle for only boosting its Attack by 1 stage at a time at the time. With Scale Shot, Baxcalibur can now run Swords Dance to give its already insanely powerful attacks just enough extra power to still make Baxcalibur a nightmare defensively answer over the course of a game. Additionally, while Baxcalibur's defensive typing is awful, its good bulk can still afford it a setup opportunity. And thanks to Scale Shot's insane power and Speed boosting, Baxcalibur's best defense becomes its offense as a couple free turns can give it enough Speed boosts to keep itself from getting revenge killed. Lastly, on a more minor but important note, the one notable change that Baxcalibur received in VaporeMons does actually circumvent one of its biggest problems, as Snow Cloak blocks hazard damage while Snow is active, making it harder to chip down into the KO range of the walls you need to beat it, along with the Snow defense boost.

With VaporeMons being Pet Mod of the Season, we have the unique opportunity to run this suspect test on the main server itself! The suspect test will run for one week, ending on Thursday, February 8.
This suspect test will have a formal vote, like a typical suspect test, and like a typical suspect test, you have to qualify in order to vote in it. These suspect test requirements are significantly easier to obtain than reqs for any other suspect test ladder to account for the lower activity of the VaporeMons ladder, so I encourage anyone reading this to go for reqs. The requirements are:
- Reaching a rating of 1200 or higher on the ladder with a new alt account with the prexfix "VBAX". An example of a legal name would be "VBAX Reginald". This rating must be obtained on the main Pokemon Showdown server.
OR
- Entering and winning at least 2 games in an official roomtour this weekend, which will have Baxcalibur legal

Be sure to post a screenshot of your alt account with its ladder rating either in this thread or in our Discord to confirm who you are.

Since Baxcalibur's unban is live, the suspect ladder is already live, so get laddering!

Popping in real quick to officially announce the time of the suspect test roomtour, which will be tomorrow at 4 PM EST! (~26 hours from now)
Same place as all of our other recent roomtours, being the Pet Mods room on Showdown.

Remember, this is the other way to gain reqs for the suspect test, though the requirements have been slightly amended to now require 2 WINS in the roomtour instead of just 1. If you're unable to get those wins, then don't worry, as the suspect test is still active until Thursday, giving you plenty of time to get up to 1200 on the ladder.

That's all for now, see you tomorrow!

HydreigonTheChild (5-1)
zxgzxg (3-2)
Beaf Cultist (3-2)
Bobsican (2-2)
Yoshiblaze (2-2)

If you weren't able to earn reqs through the tournament, then don't worry, as the suspect ladder is still open until Thursday.

Some quick takeaways:
- Baxcalibur had a pretty mixed bag in terms of its performance, constantly being a threat to sweep a team if it gets a free turn, sometimes getting those free turns and just winning on the spot, but sometimes just never getting that free turn and dying to something faster. I'm personally still in the middle in terms of whether Bax is broken or not, definitely gonna ladder more to get a better opinion (and you should too if you still need reqs or even if you don't!!)
- That said, Baxcalibur actually might not be the most broken Ice-type in the tier when Weavile exists...
- Prehistoric Might Raging Bolt and Walking Wake made numerous appearances in response to Baxcalibur, as both of them are able to stop a sweep dead, which came in handy quite often in the tournament
- Baxcalibur checks in Magnezone and Skarmory were very common, as well as the occasional Crabominable, but surprisingly Milotic was nowhere to be seen
- Both Rain and Snow made appearances in terms of weather, but neither were able to make much of a splash
- Iron Crown was probably the best performing lower ranked mon, able to quickly amass stat boosts with Grassy Seed + Agility + Calm Mind + even a Justified boost once and just winning with Stored Power, in spite of the numerous Prehistoric Might users used
- Mud Wash Swampert was the next best performing lower ranked mon, turning out multiple pretty good performances as a bulky pivot with some offensive presence
- I also managed to get reqs Minior. It was okay at being a Rocks lead. Killed an Ogerpon with Explosion once

That's all for now, see you soon!

February 8th has now come and gone, so the suspect test ladder period is now over!

Unfortunately, nobody qualified for reqs through the ladder, which I'll take the blame for as I realized way too late that the ladder reqs should've been a certain number of game wins instead of a ladder rating. Nonetheless, we still have 5 people who can vote in this suspect test through the roomtour:

If you are one of the players named above, you can simply send me your vote through DMs on either Smogon or Discord, voting either Ban or Unban on Baxcalibur. After sending your vote, you cannot change it.

A simple majority will be required to unban Baxcalibur, so the magic number is 3.

The deadline to get your votes in will be Sunday, February 11th. The result will be announced earlier if a conclusion is reached before the deadline.

Baxcalibur: Unban

I think bax has a decent amount of issues that it has.... so far snow cloak is by far amazing on hail teams and shows its amazing utility. WIth screens gutted, and HO not being as powerful you can easily pressure it with damage. Most teams have a good switch into it and SD sets need scale shot boosts to get going and its not that easy to achieve against the top tiers such as skarm, milotic, magnezone, corv, balloon gholdengo, wash away alo, etc.

DD sets face issues via power.... yes you have a better MU into offense but going that means you get bodied by stuff like zone, milo doesnt exactly get 3hko'ed from full cuz water veil healing and lefties/boots, skarm being able to just setup an ID, balloon gholdengo, scarfers such as darkrai, booster energy users such as RM, iron boulder, zamazenta being able to eat a hit, iron hands taking one from full, and grassy terrain making eq worse vs stuff like milo, magearna, archuludon, slowking-g, etc.

Its ability is easily seen cuz snow cloak announces itself, icy body announces itself to, and thermal exchange in this meta doesnt really solve its issues and is only good into smth like bulky ace, fire moves which arent usually clicked into it and smth else would be.

its still a top tier. it can run away with games after an SD + scale shot, its not impossible and piloting around it can cause you to lose a mon cuz it does so much damage, DD having a good MU against offense esp since most booster pokemon cant revenge it and at +2 you arent outrunning it, switching a milo in on an unrevaeled bax for it to reveal SD is gonna be very scary esp since bax isnt frail and uninvested milo isnt exactly strong. Its stabs are very deadly and even smth like zone gets 2hko'ed if you get lucky with 5 hits

(i feel you should prob ping the people as well)

All the suspect test votes are in, so here's the results!

Eligible Voters: 5
Votes: 5

Baxcalibur
Ban: 2
Unban: 3
Unban% = 60.0%

As Unban reached the required simple majority, Baxcalibur is now legal in VaporeMons!

Thank you to everyone who voted! Everyone who voted received a special Tiering Contributor role on the VaporeMons Discord, and we'll be sure to bring up your participation in the suspect test in any potential future badge nominations for you!

We'll have some big news coming up next as our time on the main server winds down, so stayed tuned for that! See you soon!

It's that time again. I've got some meta thoughts and the VR needs updating, so it's time for some good old-fashioned

:baxcalibur: Beaf's VR Noms :baxcalibur:
Post-Bax Suspect Edition

Rises:

:baxcalibur: NEW to A-: It's aight. Goes pretty hard once it gets going, but getting going is pretty hard with how weak you are unboosted and how many extremely viable mons wall your attacks. I have yet to see exploration beyond DD and SD with Dice, so perhaps sets like Band might be better.

:raging-bolt: A- to A+: This guy goes absolutely crazy. Basically better Kingambit at this point. Dragon Rage and Prehistoric Might in particular greatly improve this mon even compared to how good it already is in base. A- is totally underselling its value to teams.

:weavile: A- to A: Easily better than Baxcalibur and probably one of the best Ices period. False Surrender is disgusting on this mon and SD sets are really really hard to slow down if you're not running Crabominable.

:barraskewda: UR to B+: I think this mon is just as good as Legion. The big draw for it is the very high base Speed, which makes it much easier to use when Rain isn't up, whereas Legion is essentially a dead slot out of Rain. Also the higher base Attack + ability to run Band more comfortably make this easier to button-mash with and still get results.

:swampert: UR to C: Pretty solid defensive Water and Wash Away user, and easily the best defensive Mud Wash guy. Unfortunately, Mud Wash is pretty difficult to build around, and Wash Away means you can't take advantage of this thing getting Rocks.

Drops:

:meloetta-pirouette: S to A: Mon is still incredibly strong, but losing Mega Kick is definitely painful for it. You no longer have a way of getting around Milotic, and mons like Glowking are much worse matchups, but at the end of the day this mon's utility is still top-notch.

:deoxys-speed: A to A-: Mon is mid. Idk what to tell you. Haven't really seen much exploration of offensive sets, but from what little of them I have seen, they seem mediocre and pretty reliant on team support to really do well. Hazard stacking sets meanwhile are being overprepped for to hell and back, making them pretty much unusable in the current meta. Might be better later, but we'll see.

:iron-moth: A to A-: Mon just doesn't have the same kick it used to, especially with all the new Booster Speed competition running around. While it's still very good, aspects of its kit like its Rock weakness and lack of setup are really coming back to bite it in the modern meta, and I think a slight drop would reflect that.

:landorus-therian: A to A-: This mon's current ranking doesn't really reflect its competition with Gliscor, and it also suffers from the influx of Ice types in the current meta.

:corviknight: A- to B+: Skarm is just better. The Dark types that this beats (Roaring Moon, Kingambit, Iron Jugulis) either lose to IDBP Skarm anyway or are exceedingly rare in the current meta, so most players find themselves hard-pressed to justify this over Skarmory.

:regigigas: B+ to B: Yeah the hype for this thing kinda died off. I think it's unpopular more than it is bad, but it's definitely a bit weaker than everything in B+.

:roaring-moon: B+ to B: Ultimate shitter. Only does well into HO but HO always has a Booster Valiant or something in the back to revenge you anyway. Every team with any sort of defensive backbone completely owns Moon and it requires so much team support to actually get going that it's just not worth it most of the time. I would only ever run this with Snow support.

:toxapex: B+ to B-: Why is this still ranked so high? What does it even do in the current meta? Most of its relevant targets are much lower in viability (Greninja, Walking Wake, Latios) and just about everything higher up beats it, so like, what's even the point? This mon has literally no usage and I don't see what justifies it for such a high rank.

:delphox: B to B-: This mon has been very underwhelming. It has some niche cases where it's actually pretty good, but most of the time if you want an offensive Fairy it's better to go with Valiant, Magearna, or Enamorus.

:inteleon: B to B-: Mon just doesn't really fit well on standard Rain cores, which limits its usage pretty heavily. It can still be very threatening in the right hands, but the rise of mons like Milotic that it just can't beat are really painful for what's supposed to be an unstoppable Rain breaker.

:latios: B to B-: This mon is basically a matchup fish for whether or not the opponent has a Dark type. Without Luster Purge Latios just doesn't hit anywhere near as hard as it wants to, and pretty much every set from Specs to setup have been consistently underwhelming.

:excadrill: B- to C+: Even on Sand, this mon is pretty tough to use because of top-tiers like Magnezone and Skarmory that completely shut it down. It has way more competition as a Spinner than it does in OU, so that niche as well is hard to use effectively, not even mentioning the recent rise of Iron Treads which pretty much does that role better.

:hydrapple: B- to C+: This mon's ONLY niche is as a Shelter mon with Regenerator. It's okay at doing that, but the problem comes with how incredibly easy it is to threaten out compared to other options like Hoodra, which SUCKS. Tera Shard sets somewhat solve this problem, but they run into serious passivity issues, which are arguably just as bad.

:tauros-paldea-blaze: B- to C: Completely outclassed by Gouging Fire. There are certain matchups that this mon does better, but they're few and far between and most of the time Gouging Fire is just a better option.

:terrakion: B- to C-: Why did we rank this so high? Nobody has used this after the nerf and it's basically just a sidegrade of Lycanroc.

:diancie: C+ to C: Hatterene but worse. I don't see the point of running this mon.

:kommo-o: C+ to C: I haven't seen this mon used like, literally at all, but the idea of it being good in a meta without Light Clay seems pretty unbelievable to me, especially with the Prehistoric Might Dragons completely countering it.

:palafin: C+ to C: I agree with Hydrei that this is an extremely awkward mon to run and very hard to justify over the Swift Swimmers (and if you run them together you're sacrificing team integrity because they share counters). I don't think it's completely unusable but it's definitely very niche both in and out of Rain.

:mamoswine: C+ to UR: Unfortunately, this mon kinda got pushed out of relevance by recent meta changes. Baxcalibur does any offensive role this would want to do but better, and the Past Paradoxes are far better Prehistoric Might abusers, not to mention Weavile also existing as Physical Ice competition.

:breloom: C to UR: It's slow, it's frail, and Spore is now banned. You're a real one if you make this mon work, but I don't think we should be advertising it as even remotely usable.

:latias: C to UR: Why is this ranked? The main reason setup sets are good in base is Tera and without it this is basically just a worse Latios.

Hydreigon's VR nominations cuz why not

Post-melo nerf and bax suspect reqs

:swampert: -> B-*: Swampert with mud wash is an excelent utility pokemon on many teams... it can provide teams with 4 turns of "fuck fire and electric types". Thanks to it setting mud sport and water sport this is really powerful, it makes most fire attacks tickle and even strong attacks like raging bolt thunderbolt be shrugged off. Muddy water is very very strong with it and can put a lot of damage even without any investment, doing things like OHKO'ing valiant after rocks often, and isnt passive, slow flip turn is another huge boon and why i think it is a great pokemon as even switching in smth like milotic, alo, crab just gives the other play momentum to play around them. I think swampert deserves a B ranking esp with this set.

* swampert is still a much better pokemon than some of the shit mons in C or C+ that saw like one time success ... swampert is more consistent than HO psy terrain and more consistent than a C tier mon like vespiqueen. its about as consistent as something like sand, heatran, lead drill, rilla, etc. THis fits perfectly in line with a B tier pokemon

:okidogi: -> B-: While testing i also see that okidogi does very well... what does it have over other hazardous waste users? well fighting stab is always nice, having swords dance is also smth else as a free turn can be huge for it and is hard to outstall. After a swords dance it pretty much devours slow teams and it has another ace in the hole for teams that can be immune to it. Blunder policy is a great move that allows it to just not care at all and can take advantage of skarm switches esp since it has swords dance + close combat to hit them hard as well.. this makes playinga round okidogi risky as it can just sweep games on the spot. Its inconsistent tho, it needs a lot of setup with hazards and sometimes your opponent is gonna be playing a game where they can just remove them.

:raging bolt: -> A+: Raging bolt has just been popping up as prob the most threatening mon, with dragon rage, CM, and thunderclap there is very little that can 1v1 it easily. It also has ways to bypass its speed issue thanks to prehistoric might which can just turn the tables against pokemon like setup pokemon like cinderace, ogerpon-wellspring, bulk up tusk, iron boulder, etc. Dragon rage makes it so that even attacking it to pivot out is risky as you are giving it a free boost to ramp up. It is very hard to deal with thanks to dragon rage stacking up, calm mind taking advantage of passivity, thunderclap for speed control, its ability controls the tempo of the match, and it has many sets it can run although the most common one is CM, thunderclap, dragon rage, thunderbolt with maybe other options like weather ball, draco, etc.

:iron crown: -> B-: very amazing on HO, with grassy seed it becomes stupid difficult to take down, agility makes it so that it just outspeeds everything, and calm + stored power makes it so that it can just roll everything once it gets going and its very hard to stop esp with mons that give it setup like slowking-g, milotic, magnezone, archuludon,

:slowking-galar: -> A+: Slowking-g is a very valuable member on any team, being fat, haivng good utiliity, future sight, pivot, can be very mailable on a team. Thanks to that and the amount of support it provides at dealing with many top pokemon I believe it should rise.

:rillaboom: -> B: what it has over shaymin is utility on HO, pivot options, and priority... shaymin is indeed a good pokemon but rillaboom also can up it thanks to its more offensive nature and it can knock + u-turn to rack up chip and clean late game, and enable many dangerous sweepers with grassy seed

*:hippowdon: :sandy shocks: -> B/B+: they are both very good, meteor beam spam on sand teams is just very very dumb sometimes... you can click meteor beam and once u got the first one off its very hard to stop with only 2 solid counters 1 being sp. def gliscor and 2 being magnezone (lando-t 100% takes to much esp since it isnt running sp. def)

:weavile: -> A+: does weavile things a bit better now with better targets

:ogerpon-hearthflame: -> A: This is a big drop but S is more of a pokemon that can fit on any team and be a big benefit to it, while good still and strong it has its downfalls.... 1. its weakness to hazards means its harder to fit than wellspring and means that it often gets worn down to quickly 2. competition with ogerpon-wellspring which can bring a lot of competition 3. feels like it misses a decent amount in this meta... you want play rough for smth like dragonite, raging bolt, roaring moon, etc but you also want trailblaze to not get revenge killed by fast pokemon or maybe even jungle healing to setup all over gliscor and other status.

:ogerpon-wellspring: -> S-: still an amazing pokemon but idt its as good thanks to someone called raging bolt being a pain for it, alo dropping in usage means that wellspring isnt needed on so many teams to force progress vs it and while it still is good idt its S. It is a contender for top pokemon but its not in the top of the league.

:jolteon: -> A-: Jolteon is annoying as ever but with electric competition, pert seeming legit, gliscor being unbanned, and a decent amount of stops to it like slowking-g, ting lu, gliscor all being very hard to break through. I think it still fits in A- alonsgide many big pokemon but idt A is smth i think is out of its reach.

:iron boulder: -> B-: Kinda sucks in many MU's, weak to many form of priority, really booster reliant, has 4mss since it needs CC for zone, eq for magearna, cleave as stab, and zen headbutt hits crab, tusk, zamazenta.... but its odd to fit all 4 and even then it has issues. its awkward typing is stupid since it has so many weaknesses and its so hard to setup unlike SV OU since it has tera (even there it fell off a bit), issues finding setup opportunities in general, and issues using those setup opportunities for smth since it misses out on a lot

:garganacl: -> B: 2 reasons i have mainly 1. gliscor existing is just a pain in the ass for it and shows how much it suffers when it cannot force progress 2. being very hazard weak, it has to click recover often cuz it doesnt heal and without tera shard its typing is much worse to work around 3. many mons can just apply way to much pressure via encore, wash away, other pokemon of similar typing doing its job defensively or forcing progress.. Still good but i feel its fallen off a decent amount.

:amoonguss: -> C+: Odd to use after sleep ban, stun spore is viable but its much worse and inconsistent. and gives free switches to archaludon, slowking-g, kingambit, gholdengo, skarm, etc. (give it rollout back!!)

* i am putting it 2 sub ranks lower instead... amoonguss is really passive into top tiers and often has nothing going for it. If you want a poison slowking-g is often a much better choice, shaymin also provides a lot of utility, we have better fairy resists, fighting resists arent exactly limited, and its just... fat ok.

*:tornadus-therian: -> B: I think it was ranked fine a while ago. but rn with raging bolt being top tier, weavile, kyurem, jolteon, thundy, zapdos being good still.. and generally alo not being used as much and gliscor being a fine sub on such teams means that the utility it had before isnt needed as much now.

*:darkrai: -> B: Wow a big drop in my opinion and maybe a big underate on darkrai rn but darkrai has 2 big issues... its competition is kinda steep for its slot and it always has counters around the corner... it wants dark pulse as stab, sludge bomb to hit enamorus, clef, valiant, and milo, focus blast to hit archaludon, ting lu, mage as hard as possible, calm mind to boost itself, but even then darkrai isnt that strong. With LO you are wearing urself down into being outsped and being very hard to setup later in the game, being vulnurable to status makes it hard to setup on some mons, and generally being to weak even after a boost (it should get NP back). TDB sets lose still to a lot of mons and loses even harder to smth like slowking-g, mage still sits on it, and thunder acc is shacy asf sometimes and not fun to use.

*:walking wake: -> B: milo is a bitch to it, so is mage, slowking-g ruins rain a bit esp since it cant do much to it, and sun isnt that good but i think its pretty much mandatory so it fits with torkoal.

* sure it can nuke smth on rain but its gonna 1. have a lot of team support for milo as it cannot do shit to it and specs hurricane is ez to pivot around esp since its not throwing water moves out 2. a lot more competition for it, inteleon can do a great job, gren can to, basculegion as a water type.

244 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Hydro Steam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Milotic in Rain: 117-138 (29.6 - 35%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
244 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Milotic: 143-169 (36.2 - 42.8%) -- 97.5% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

*:samurott-hisui: -> B-: when is the last time you seen it... weavile does edge things better since its much faster and isnt threatened as much by samu-h mid speed, and suffering with weavile being better

:terrakion: -> UR: I dont see it rn, i dont see its potential, and no reason to rank it as it has no experimentation

:latias: -> UR: without screens its ass, without tera its typing is meh, with many pokemon screwing with it, it can never get going. No experimentation either done with it so UR it stays.

:landorus: -> UR: still shit just use smth else, garchomp is prob much better and lando-t is arguably better as a SD user or setup user (sub bu is interesting)

:spidops: -> UR: use ribombee bulk isnt wroth losing and having 0 support options

:meloetta pirouette: -> IDK: Never seen it post shifts... nerfs prob hurt it a lot more than beaf thinks but im not gonna rank it rn. If i had to i would estimate it in B rank because losing normal stab means losing a lot of ur pressure, and doing hit and run styles makes it so that are much less effective and zama is just better at brute forcing through shit.

prob C+*

:sneasler: -> IDK: No usage at all from my perspective esp post dlc 2. The nerfs def gutted it on offense and gliscor is a bitch to it as without tera it just cant break through it. Muscle memory is prob one of the worst abilities in the mod

:regigigas: -> IDK: was seen once and then was gone.... idk how to rank such a mon but ill prob drop it to C+ since it was prob a ncihe asf mon

:wo-chien: -> C

:pecharunt: B to B+: fat mf. walls so much just by virtue of its physbulk. really hard to set up bcuz green eyed and maligma chain. rollout also helps with the passivity it sees in vanilla ou

With this, we don't have too much time left on the main server, but we have something big planned to close out our time on the main server, so stay tuned for that!

Name: [Minior]
Type: [Flying, rock]
Abilities: [Shields down]
New Moves: [Air slash, Moonlight, Hurricane, Lunar dance, cosmic power ]
Removed Moves: [N/A]
Justification: [By adding these options to Minior it would have special flying coverage while moonlight will let it use its shield forms defense better lunar dance allowing for a good option and making sense overall why it would get this while not making it unfair]

Name: [Shields down]
Effect: [When Minior falls below half hp it goes into shields down]
Adjustment: [If Minior Manages to get above half hp again it will go back into its shield form]
Permanent Yes
Mold Breaker No
Justification: [This in my opinion should be added to allow Minior to work on a stall team allowing more use of shield form then just living a hit to set up shell smash]

Name: [Star Gem]
Power: [20]
Accuracy: [90%]
PP: [15]
Category: [Special]
Type: [Fairy]
Effect: [A consecutive three-hit attack that becomes more powerful with each successful hit]
Priority: [0]
Flags: [Bullet ]
Potential Pokémon With This Move: [Diancie,Minior,Glimmora,Clefable,Arceus,Magearna,Deoxys, space mons in general]
Justification: [I feel this should be added as it would add more options to a lot of Mons giving them more options]

Name: [Heavy Artillery]
Effect: [This ability Multiplies all bullet type moves damage by 1.5]
Permanent: No
Mold Breaker: No
Potential Pokémon With This Ability: [Armarouge]
Justification: [it would fit in the tread of other ability such as sharpness and strong jaw it could be given to more mons but so far armarouge is what comes to mind]

Magnezone tops the charts once again, this time with a pretty insane margin. I know it's partially because a lot of people used the Magnezone-heavy Sample Teams, but 64% usage with over 50% winrate is still pretty crazy lol. Gliscor and Gouging Fire having 4 wins is also funny.

Speaking of Gouging Fire, we actually have a mid-tournament balance change that will be live for Round 3:
:gouging fire:Gouging Fire will lose Raging Fury - A fairly minor nerf for now considering the fact that this thing is currently being suspect tested in regular OU right now and still has an amazing tool in Rekindle to abuse here to make up for not having Tera available, but yeah this nerf was a very easy decision to make. Raging Fury being a capped-at-200 BP Rage Fist clone that Game Freak just so happened to give a fairly fast, extremely bulky, burning spreading mon with recovery and DDance was always going to cause problems, they just really manifested in the first two rounds the tournament with Gouging Fire netting multiple easy wins. Gouging Fire is still plenty powerful without Raging Fury could even see additional nerfs or even a ban in the future, but we felt like this was the best choice for now

As I said above, this nerf will apply to Round 3 of the Forum Tour, so do not bring a Gouging Fire with the move Raging Fury. Doing so will result in a game loss.

That's all for now, see you next round!

Alright, Vaporemons has just finished its PMOTS run (and I just finished my tournament games unless there's a bracket reset, in which case uhhhhh), so it's time for another big VR update. I'm going to start by posting my personal VR this time, then I'll explain the shifts I want, because there's a lot of hot takes here.

:iron-hands: A+ to S: Folks have been very vocal about their opinions of this mon for quite a while, and I'm inclined to agree with them. Iron Hands is an absolutely disgusting cleaner, pretty much winning the game on the spot with SD + Chain Lightning sets if it's healthy and the opponent's Ground is dead. It's pretty much impossible not to go at least even with this mon, and that's not even considering the boost it gets in Grassy Terrain (which also protects it from most of the Ground types that otherwise are its only viable counters). I could absolutely see this getting nerfed in the future.

:magnezone: A+ to S: This mon was the best Spinner in the mod ever since Gliscor dropped in DLC1, and after almost a year of meta development, it's still on top. Nothing removes hazards more consistently than Magnezone, particularly in a meta as hostile to Great Tusk as this one, and with the meta so chock-full of hazards, that's a big deal. It's also worth mentioning Zone's stellar defensive profile, doing well into top threats like Gliscor, Magearna, and Raging Bolt, along with many others.

:jolteon: A to A+: This thing is disgusting lol. Specs and LO sets have been popping up quite a bit recently, and the power jump over Boots sets makes it pretty much impossible to wall this properly. Additionally, folks have started running Round over Volt Switch, so previously functional Ground-type switchins can no longer even stop your momentum. If you don't have a SpDef Gliscor, you're going to struggle against this mon.

:kingambit: A- to A: Not much to say here, this mon is just good. Gambit fits on pretty much every archetype as a nigh-unstoppable lategame cleaner, and with its best counterplay (Crabominable, Corviknight, Iron Valiant) all seeing much lower usage, Gambit is more consistent now than it's been at any point in Vape's history.

:zamazenta: A- to A: With the fall of Melo-P, Zama lost its main competition as a hyperfast, hard-hitting Fighting type. This is a pretty stellar role in the current meta, and since it also matches up well into pretty much every slower offensive mon, it's very easy to slap Zama onto teams as your speed control.

:pecharunt: B+ to A-: This guy is crazy lol. GTerrain being common and Tusk stocks at an all-time low make it a fucking menace to handle for many teams, and access to Rollout and the very funny Hazardous Waste make it much less of a momentum sink than it is in base. It also fits extremely well on said GTerrain teams, eating Fighting hits for Hoodra and providing a better answer to Ogerpon-H, which neither one of the classic GTerrain fat core can handle very well. I'm so thankful we didn't give this Shelter.

:primarina: B- to B+: Primarina has had probably the biggest glow-up of any mon since our last VR. This mon is beast, sacrificing Milotic's raw defensive utility for a crazy amount of offensive pressure, while still having reasonable enough bulk to wall many of the mons Milotic can. It has its flaws, but I've been really happy with what I've seen from Prima so far, and I look forward to experimenting with it more in the future.

:hydrapple: C+ to B-: This mon has seen a lot of experimentation recently, and I've personally been impressed by its Tera Dragon Shelter sets on Healing Stones GTerrain squads. Compared to Hoodra, Hydrapple loses the weaknesses to Ground and particularly Fighting, while also gaining an amazing tool for a defensive pivot in Regenerator. All of this makes Hydrapple a very legitimate option for Stones teams, and in my opinion deserving of a rise.

:tauros-paldea-blaze: C to B-: Post-Gouging Fire nerf this is the best Raging Fury mon, and Raging Fury is broken. Pretty simple rise to understand.

:spiritomb: C to C+: This mon is actually so fucked up in the right hands. Between Wisp to screw over physmons and Snatch to stop guys from setting up on it, breaking through this mon is a difficult and sometimes downright impossible task, especially when Death Aura is letting it wear you down faster than you can manage in return.

:fezandipiti: UR to B-: Very effective Healing Stones setter, Burn spreader, and Hazardous Waste abuser. Great defensive typing allows it to come in on a lot of physmons and spread burns with ease, and Shuca Berry sets let it fuck up would-be counters like Great Tusk and Landorus-Therian. Also pairs very well with mons like Spiritomb and Tera Dragon Hydrapple (Shelter+HStones is a classic).

:thundurus-therian: UR to C: Legitimate option for Rain teams to help them shore up their abysmal Iron Hands matchup, while also being a powerful Rain abuser in its own right.

:ursaluna: UR to C-: Still unwallable if you can get it in. Still the only thing holding together TR as a playstyle. Still worth ranking.
:iron-valiant: S to A+: This just isn't S rank. It's had a good amount of consistent counterplay for a long while, and has pretty much become a matchup fish of running random wacky coverage on CM sets and praying you don't run into the mons that wall you. Sleep ban also hurt it a lot, as Hypnosis was its best chance at beating stuff like Glowking. Obviously it still has a ton of great traits, but it's not as dominant as it once was.

:ogerpon-hearthflame: S to A+: I still think this mon is ridiculous, but the meta has adapted well enough and it's not often sweeping teams. With more testing, I could easily see this rising back up to S, but for now I think A+ better reflects its recent achievements.

:gliscor: A+ to A: This mon is obviously great, but it legitimately cannot touch Magnezone, the #1 removal option. This sucks for what is ostensibly a hazard setter, and really hits its viability hard. However, Glisc is still the best Ground (and particularly the best SpDef Ground) in the tier, so a minor drop is all it needs.

:great-tusk: A+ to A: The meta has not been kind to Mr. Tusk here. Firstly, Tusk is one of the worst Ground types you can run right now. It completely fails to check Jolteon and Thundurus, and even Raging Bolt can smoke you if it catches you on the switch. The other big problem is that Magnezone is far better at Spinning, being able to comfortably beat Gliscor and most lead Deo-S sets while also being naturally immune to Spikes and Tspikes. Tusk can in theory beat both of those mons as well, but the 4MSS between running STABs, Ice Spinner, Knock Off, Temper Flare, and Rapid Spin is serious. It's still a great mon, and offensive sets like Band to take advantage of Rollout are still underexplored, but I think a drop is reasonable at this point.

:skarmory: A+ to A: This mon's kind of a victim of my VR restructure more than anything, which you'll see a lot more of later. Part of my goal with this VR was to slim down what I saw as large amounts of bloat, particularly in the lower tiers, where mons were ranked much higher in viability than they realistically are. By dropping Iron Valiant and Ogerpon-H to A+, Skarmory began to stick out like a sore thumb, as its passivity and the fact that folks are prepping for it pretty heavily now makes it a good bit worse than defensive tools like Glowking and Milotic. This one isn't as much of a shoe-in as some of the other drops, but I think it's worth considering.

:archaludon: A to A-: I think this mon is a bit overrated at the moment. It's a solid physical wall, but its true potential comes out in Rain, and I don't think it's so good outside of Rain as to be ranked all the way up in A. I wouldn't mind a Pelipper rise to A- to better match Rain's viability along with this if yall feel it's necessary, but I think an Arch drop is justified at the very least.

:gholdengo: A to A-: Great mon for hazard stacking teams, but those teams aren't the greatest right now because of their inability to handle bulky Healing Stones squads. Outside of that role, this mon has been quite lackluster as of late, as its defensive matchups aren't amazing and every team naturally has a defensive check to it just from standard building practices in the current meta. Obviously still a great tool, but not quite A-worthy imo.

:thundurus: A to A-: Not much of a mystery here, Jolteon is just better in the current meta. Thundurus is slower but makes more progress into fatter teams, which are currently just about nonexistent, making Thundy a pretty dubious choice in most matchups compared to Jolteon.

:baxcalibur: A- to B+: Another mon hurt a ton by its terrible Magnezone matchup. Between Zone, Milotic, and Skarmory, it's very hard for setup Bax to make progress. I've had some success running Band, but I don't think it's consistent enough to be ranked so high.

:blaziken: A- to B+: Absolutely terrifying setup sweeper, but requires a lot of team support and checks like Milotic and Great Tusk to be weakened before it can sweep teams. Not consistent enough for the A tiers imo.

:iron-moth: A- to B+: Another victim of the restructuring. Iron Moth is just as good as the last time I asked for it to drop, but it's more similar to a Greninja level of good than it is to the Deo-S level.

:dragonite: A- to B: This can beat just about every mon in the meta with the right set, but in actual games it just doesn't have enough tools to do that most of the time. Sets that run coverage for Magnezone and Milotic sacrifice matchups into Gliscor, Glowking, and many of the tier's other defensive staples, and in practice it's just kind of lackluster.

:zapdos: A- to B: This mon just doesn't have very many good matchups in the current meta, with most offensive mons being able to cleanly 2HKO it with neutral STABs, and Magnezone having many of the same positive matchups while also being a Spinner. Offensive Zapdos also falls short both because of the aforementioned Zone, but also because Jolteon and Thundurus perform much better in the role. It's not even a good defogger, as most hazard setters are able to force it out or at least cripple it while it tries to Defog on them. Overall, I don't really see much reason to use this mon right now.

:ceruledge: B+ to B: Another victim of the restructuring, though this mon has also been a lot less consistent ever since Rekindle and especially Justified got nerfed.

:meowscarada: B+ to B: This mon is just very meh currently. Weavile and the Ogerpons are far better options for just about anything Meow wants to do, and mons like Skarmory and Zamazenta put a serious damper on anything Meow would want to do. It's still usable, and might just be suffering from a lack of exploration, but right now I don't think it's B+ material.

:darkrai: B+ to B-: This mon just does nothing over Iron Jugulis. Without NP, by far its best set in OU, this guy was already a questionable slot on teams, but then you compare it to the absolute menace that is Jugulis and it becomes very apparent that this mon is out of a job. Still gonna rank it B- because the extra Speed and coverage over Jugulis can be notable at times, but I fully expect this to drop further in the future unless we give it back NP.

:walking-wake: B+ to B-: RIP bozo + Sun sucks + better offensive Waters/Dragons put this out of a job.

:keldeo: B+ to C-: This mon got extremely overrated early on because it didn't have much usage and folks weren't sure how to rank it, but yeah. This mon sucks. Milotic and Primarina, both incredibly common mons, completely stuff it, and even other guys like Glowking and Amoonguss can also handle setup sets (the only ones which really benefit from Water Veil). Fully expect this to go unranked eventually but I wanted to give it a chance.

:amoonguss: B to B-: Another restructuring victim. I don't think this mon is actually much worse after the Sleep ban, but its horrible matchups into meta staples like Glowking and Gholdengo do seriously limit its potential. Could understand opposition to this drop, as it does very well into a lot of current threats like the Ogerpons and Primarina.

:clefable: B to B-: I just don't get what this mon does. It loses to Magnezone, can't comfortably wall the Ogerpons, and is a dead slot into Rain. I would pretty much always prefer one of the Water/Fairies.

:rotom-wash: B to B-: This guy's aight and can be pretty good in the right hands, but I've found its bulk to be pretty lacking for what is ostensibly a defensive mon, and it really struggles to do anything of note against Grassy Terrain teams.

:torkoal: B to B-: Sun sucks. Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt are very scary mons, but they are just about all that Sun brings to the table, and both mons function very well on their own anyway, not to mention how dominant Rain (one of Sun's worst matchups) is in the current meta. Tork and all other Sun abusers got a drop on my VR for these reasons.

:tornadus-therian: B to B-: Another victim of restructuring. This mon isn't necessarily bad, but it's just outclassed by mons like Iron Jugulis and even Zapdos. I think with more testing my mind could maybe be changed, but from what I've seen of it I haven't been impressed.

:iron-boulder: B to C: Mon is trash. You just can't slot all the moves to handle the tier's defensive cores with SD, and even if you could, we have much better sweepers you could use instead.

:slowbro: B to UR: Hoodra and Hydrapple both do this mon's niche better, particularly Hydrapple.

:azumarill: B- to C+: Restructuring victim #57. Definitely usable, but it faces a lot of issues as well as competition from Milotic and Primarina which push it down in overall viability.

:delphox: B- to C+: Just kind of lackluster as an offensive mon. Iron Valiant and Enamorus are a lot more consistent.

:hippowdon::sandy-shocks: B- to C+: Sand is funny but very inconsistent. Shocks has seen some experimentation outside of Sand but it's nothing spectacular and Sand sets are generally better, so C+ fits these mons better than B-.

:hoopa-unbound: B- to C+: More restructuring. This mon's viability hasn't changed but it's still very inconsistent and hard to slot on teams, so I think it makes sense for it to be C+

:iron-crown: B- to C+: I love Iron Crown, but realistically it's just not that consistent and is pretty much locked to HO.

:volcanion: B- to C+: Fine enough breaker, but it has quite a few flaws and problem matchups that do hold it back a good bit, and in my opinion too much to be ranked B-.

:hawlucha: B- to C: I've been running GTerrain offense and I don't even use Hawlucha on my build. I think this mon is just kind of mediocre, being a niche tool on an already niche playstyle, and B- is overrating it heavily.

:inteleon: B- to C: It's pretty tough to slot this mon on teams, as it's very one-note and its best playstyle, Rain, often doesn't have the room to slot it in anyway. It certainly has its uses but it's very rare, and I think C fits it better.

:mandibuzz: B- to C: I'll be real, the main reason I'm dropping this is because nobody uses it. That being said, I think Skarmory does better at most of its roles. It definitely has potential as a Ghost resist, but considering that in the modern meta that pretty much just means "Dragapult answer", you're better off running Garganacl, Toxapex, or one of the many offensive Dark types.

:meloetta-pirouette: B- to C: Yeah this mon is pretty terrible now unfortunately (give it back the hazard immunity). It still has some utility that can't be replicated by anything else, but its lack of offensive power into key meta figures like Milotic and Skarmory make it a hard sell.

:venusaur: B- to C: See Torkoal. Sun sucks, Venu isn't even mandatory on Sun, so there's no way Venu is somehow B-.

:skeledirge: B- to C-: This mon is just pretty bad. Other mons like Fezandipiti and Spiritomb do the role of fat Wisp mon better, and Torch Song just isn't that scary in the current meta. Even stall doesn't want to run it, as it can't even beat Ogerpon-Hearthflame 1v1 despite resisting both of its STABs.

:latios: B- to UR: Awful mon. I see no reason to run this in the current meta, as even if you wanted an offensive Psychic type you could just use Deoxys-Speed or Hoopa-U.

:serperior: C+ to C: This guy sucks pretty bad without HP or Tera to make up for its nonexistent coverage. It might have sauce but nobody's really shown that yet despite it getting a fair bit of usage already.

:vaporeon: C+ to C: Another restructuring victim, though this mon's weaknesses are also just a lot more noticeable when it can't cheese 3 kill with Muddy Water accuracy drops.

:enamorus-therian: C+ to UR: Nobody runs this mon, there's not really any reason to run this mon, it's just not good.

:excadrill: C+ to UR: Magnezone. Also Skarmory.

:muk-alola: C+ to UR: I could not tell you the last time this mon saw usage, and I also could not tell you what role it's supposed to have in this meta.

:ogerpon-cornerstone: C+ to UR: Completely outclassed by the other Ogerpons, also Magnezone exists.

:scizor: C+ to UR: What does this do? Like I'm so serious, I do not understand why you would run this mon. Its offensive profile is trash, it loses to all the most common defensive mons, and it's easy to wear down because it can't run Boots without sacrificing the huge bulk boost from Mantis Claw, so you're stuck in a lose-lose situation between taking constant hazard chip and being too frail to consistently switch into anything but the most passive of fatmons.

:okidogi: C to C-: While this mon is very funny, I don't think it's consistent at all, and fatter mons like Pecharunt and Fezandipiti have shown to be generally better Hazardous Waste abusers. Still can go hard in the right circumstances with the right support, so I'm down with it staying ranked.

:moltres: C to C-: I've used this mon quite a bit recently, and it has consistently disappointed me. I think a lot of it has to do with the meta - its best matchups (Great Tusk, Iron Valiant, Enamorus) are generally worse here and have more consistent counterplay, while a lot of the best offensive mons (Ogerpon-W, Iron Hands, Raging Bolt) beat it pretty handily. There's definitely still potential with this mon but idk if it's really worth running most of the time.

:wo-chien: C to C-: This mon can be kind of funny at times and maybe it's just underexplored, but generally I think it's agreed that its passivity makes it not worth running over other defensive tools most of the time.

:zoroark-hisui: C to C-: Same as all the other C- drops. Extremely niche mon that can potentially be good in the right hands but generally isn't worth it over other options.

:diancie: C to UR: This is ass. I've been able to sorta kinda make it work after a lot of testing but there is no way it's VR-worthy lmao. That speed tier is just so lackluster, even at +1.

:garchomp: C to UR: Literally fake. Between Magnezone, Skarmory, and Milotic, this mon has no place in the current meta, especially compared to much better physical Dragons like Baxcalibur and Roaring Moon.

:kommo-o: C to UR: No clue what this does. Needs more results if it wants to be ranked again.

:meloetta: C to UR: Melo is my baby, but this had to be done. Mon just cannot function in a meta with so many immunities to its STABs. CM sets are underexplored and could have potential, but at its current level of development this mon doesn't deserve a VR placement.

:palafin: C to UR: Just use Crabominable. Skewda and Legion are much better in Rain as well so this mon really has no purpose in OU.

:scyther: C to UR: This mon was very much a reaction to the dominance of Iron Valiant in the later slates of Vape, but modern meta shifts have kinda pushed this mon out. It really doesn't do well at all into teams with any sort of defensive backbone, and that hurts it a lot when stuff like Glowking and Skarmory are everywhere.

:zapdos-galar: C to UR: This mon hasn't been able to replicate the success it had a few months ago on ladder, so unfortunately I think it must once again drop to the pits of UR. Maybe next time, buddy.

:azelf: C- to UR: Just run Deo-S.

:kleavor: C- to UR: Could maybe do stuff sometimes, but there's better options for physical breakers.

:lanturn: C- to UR: Too niche to be ranked.

:lilligant-hisui: C- to UR: Completely lacking in results and also Sun still sucks.

:lycanroc-dusk: C- to UR: Too frail to be worth it over other physical breakers.

:munkidori: C- to UR: Too many awful matchups among the top tiers.

:muk: C- to UR: No results, also just run Glowking.

:terrakion: C- to UR: Like Lycanroc, but weaker!

:tinkaton: C- to UR: No recent results, also just run Magearna or Clefable.

:typhlosion-hisui: C- to UR: Sun sucks.

:tyranitar: C- to UR: Doesn't do anything. Why do we have 4 physical Rocks in C- anyway lol that's way too many.

UR TOTAL: 24

Last little bit I wanna mention is my personal watchlist at the moment. I'm planning on going into these a bit more in the future, but I think Iron Hands, Ogerpon-H and W, and Jolteon are all pretty ridiculous and meta warping, particularly the Electrics. The fact that most Grounds can barely beat one of them, let alone both, is just downright silly, and their counterplay is so limited overall. Hopefully council will address these mons in the future.

Anyway, that's all I've got for now. Go play Vaporemons!

The main takeaway here is "lol raging bolt". We have a lot of broken/borderline broken Electric-types in this metagame, huh?

And just a couple quick takeaways from me at a glance:
- Magnezone really is the centerpiece of the metagame with that 33% usage dwarfing everything else
- In general, our metagame's Electric-types are kinda insane lol. Magnezone is a healthy but still insane defensive piece, and then there's Jolteon, Iron Hands, and Raging Bolt repeatedly committing crimes, with Thundurus also in the background somewhere
- Have to mention Raging Bolt again because that thing went 7-0, that's crazy lmao
- Rain is very good in the metagame right now so I'm surprised to see it only get 3 wins in 8 tries
- Ogerpon-Wellspring went 0-5, huh

Overall, quite a fun tournament but we still have a good number of potentially broken elements in the metagame that we'll have to handle in the future, so stay tuned for any future developments there.

Also as a last quick point, the Role Compendium has now finally been updated thanks to Beaf Cultist!

That's all for now, see you soon!

Team Dump

:froslass::shaymin::iron hands::hydrapple::magearna::iron moth:- r1, win vs gluke
Frosgrass. It's your average GTerrain team except with a Froslass, which kinda helps the Glowking and Hydrapple matchup (it's still a shitmon but hands carries)

:gouging fire::gliscor::gholdengo::magnezone::milotic::zamazenta:-r2, win vs chuggachuggachooo
Your Average Balance Team. chip the opps with the everything and win with goug. adjusted to be legal (no fury goug)

:jolteon::weavile::fezandipiti::spiritomb::hydrapple::great tusk: -r3, loss vs hydrei
Anti Glowking team. fezan and tomb shut down regen bullshit (namely glowking) so that jolte can just win (altho it kinda already does that). i threw when i sacked hydrap for no reason lmao gg

the webs team i used was a stolen ou sample so im not posting that

Team Dump + Some Tour Thoughts

:meloetta-pirouette::thundurus::slowking-galar::baxcalibur::toxapex::landorus-therian: - r1 g1 vs Ferenia [W]
Pretty standard fat balance but featuring a ton of rarely used mons. Glowking+Pex is a shockingly competent defensive core, and Pex really showed up in this game because the opp forgot to always go Woger on the Wash Away mon.

:scyther::magearna::alomomola::gouging-fire::meowscarada::gliscor: - r1 g2 vs Ferenia [W]
This team is super trash lmao. It has basically no cohesion besides the classic Wish Mola + AV Mage core, and the only reason I won this round so decisively was because Ferenia didn't know how to play around a Gouging Fire and gave me tons of free boosts. Don't run Scyther please - it is bad.

:blaziken::iron-crown::deoxys-speed::rillaboom::gholdengo::zapdos-galar: - r2 g1 vs Gekokeso [L]
The newest version of my funny GTerrain offense squad. Basic gist is to get your sweepers out in terrain in order to activate Grassy Seed and let them clean up from there. Gapdos is filler because I was still experimenting with slot 6, and it didn't really do anything of value in the battle. Lost this one to bad play + some hax, but the squad is probably the best so far in this list.

brought the glowking+pex team to g2 and won, though i nearly lost to brokemon gouging fire in lategame (such a balanced mon). melo actually put in a ton of work both times i brought the team - we might be underrating it?

brought the scyther squad to g3 and won to close out the round, only really managing because geko let his archaludon die super early and didn't have any other switchins to band meow on his rain squad. was a very close round, and really showed how mid my teams had been so far lmao, so this was when i started building specifically for this tour.

:hatterene::ursaluna::hoopa-unbound::cresselia::kingambit::decidueye: - r4 g1 vs HydreigonTheChild [L]
Going into finals, I knew I had to do something drastic. Hydrei has an overwhelmingly winning record over me, particularly in tournaments, and I knew that my standard builds weren't going to cut it. So, I decided to bring something he would never even think to prep for: Trick Room. TR in Vape is incredibly unexplored, with nobody really pushing the playstyle in any way since maybe the first few slates of the mod. After trawling the depths of OU teambuilding threads for ideas and getting in a few test games, this was the build I settled on. Most of what you see here is pretty standard TR fare, but the one innovation I brought to the table was Decidueye. The owl is absolutely amazing and in my opinion borderline mandatory for TR squads in Vape, as it provides an ungodly powerful special abuser with Contrary Leaf Storm, as well as being able to stopgap two of Trick Room's worst matchups - Crabominable and Ursaluna. However, one thing I failed to recognize going into this game was that Trick Room is still really bad, so with some outplays from my opponent and bad plays from me, I still got toppled.

:tauros-paldea-blaze::magnezone::primarina::iron-jugulis::gengar::gliscor: - r4 g2 vs HydreigonTheChild [L]
This was a funky team that had done surprisingly well in testing considering how unorthodox it was. After the Gouging Fire nerf, Tauros is probably the most consistent Raging Fury abuser, and this team is meant to abuse that by taking out some of its counterplay and letting it clean up in lategame. I don't think this is the best way to run Tauros in hindsight, as its bulk is far worse than Gouging Fire's, and by underestimating how many hits it could really take I ended up losing this game to a combination of Dragonite and Weavile. Pretty unfortunate way for this game to go, as I think I had all the tools to beat my opponent here and just threw it away by refusing to run calcs. Also don't run Gengar lol, idk what I was smoking when I added that mon to the squad.

:jolteon::great-tusk::hydrapple::fezandipiti::gliscor::magearna: - r4 vs SHIMA [W]
Brought this completely original team to both matches against SHIMA and won decisively. Fezandipiti is a really unique mon, taking the Stones support role that's usually reserved to passive fatmons and combining it with a nasty self-enabled Hazardous Waste, as well as Will-O-Wisp + Neutralizing Gas to make it an absolute pain for offensive and defensive teams alike. Hydrapple pairs extremely well with Fez as well, removing Rocks and Spikes with Shelter to allow Jolteon and Great Tusk to benefit from Healing Stones, while still leaving the maximum possible amount of hazards up for Fez to abuse with Hazardous Waste in the lategame. CM Magearna was a pretty unique set that ended up paying off in g2, as SHIMA decided to bring stall, which CM Mage absolutely bullies. However, I think this set is generally pretty bad, as besides the stall matchup you would prefer Specs or AV pretty much any other time.

This was a very fun tournament, and in my opinion one of the most successful individual mod tournaments of all time! I'm super grateful to everyone who showed up and played the meta, and especially those who built their own teams - y'all are the MVPs (insert Obama medal image here). I'm looking forward to seeing how Vaporemons develops in the future, and I hope y'all will stick around to see it out. Peace!

:inteleon: :archaludon: :barraskewda: :iron treads: :pelipper: :raging bolt:

This team is built around a standard rain squad that I used the structure for the SV OU rain structure... inteleon is uncommon but it certainly has its place on such a team where snipe shot + outclass can def nuke stuff like kyurem, baxcalibur, dragonite, shaymin, and also give itself the survaiability to maybe take a hit or take away their stabs and make them not hit as hard. Barra with baseball bat is a nuclear option and with liquidation + flip turn + the option to freely switch into its coverage without much penalty is always a boon compared to it in SV OU, you are less punished and yuo are almost as strong with very little to switch into it. Archaludon is brutal, with rain electro shot and draco nothing really wants to switch into it, with stamina you are also super hard to kill in a small time frame for bulkier teams and its super easy to rack up electro shot boosts. Raging bolt is a unique set i brought with booster + thunder which makes it clap neutral targets like slowking-g, av mage, and more.

:dragonite: :iron treads: :raging bolt: :weavile: :crabominable: :iron crown:

A HO team featuring Lead treads, TDB dragonite, and crab! crab is a unique thing ive seen people toy around with, but decided to want to use it for the sake of having defensive utility, strong priority, and can cover up weaknesses to a mon like weavile and priority users. Crab is super powerful esp at +2 considering how hard jet punch hits... jet punch has gotten a lot of great KO's that i couldnt really get with other mons and with fur coat it can take huge hits like ogerpon-wellspring power whip.

Dragonite is also a decent mon, with TDB it has a life orb pretty much on it so it is easy to see how at +2 you can start slamming things with eq and ice spinner and surprise mons like magnezone, skarm, and balloon gholdengo with a fire punch. Raging bolt with booster energy becomes a very powerful cleaner esp with dragon rage or calm mind as you can slam a lot of things much harder thanks the 1.3x sp. attack boost

This was a team that gave me a lot of wins int he tour thanks to crab sweeps, iron treads was an unorthodox pokemon that can keep rocks up thanks to having steel beam to take itself out
:wo chien: :tauros-paldea-blaze: :clefable: :magnezone: :gliscor: :weavile:

this team utilize hazard stack to force progress with wo chien acting as the spinblocker. WO chien is used for its ghost type, its resistance to many bulky pokemon, and how well it matches up into bulky teams thanks to ruination + choke + jungle healing.

Tauros takes a lot of hits over the course of a game and can slam things with a maxed out raging fury and with life dew from clef, hazard removal, and rekindle burns you can easily accumulate a lot of boosts on raging fury.

:ogerpon-hearthflame::clefable: :ting lu: :magnezone: :meloetta pirouette: :raging bolt:

This team utilizes ogerpon-heartflame to basically go ham vs the opponent, with spin support it can utilize its switch in opportunities vs defensive pokemon, thunder wave support to allow ti to go ham and volt turn support to pivot it in vs many pokemon that would try to check the other members like milotic vs melo-p, magnezone vs magnezone.

:meloetta pirouette: :swampert: :rillaboom: :iron hands: :skarmory: :magnezone:

This team utilizes swampert to setup mud wash which allows the team to not die instantly to volcarona or iron moth. Rillaboom + iron hands forma a great core as iron hands can setup all over mons like magnezone, corv, arcahaludon, raging bolt, etc.

it uses a lot of volt turn to bring iron hands in to give it as much opportunities to go in against the opponent from melo-p, zone, rillaboom, and swampert.

:cinderace: :keldeo: :raging bolt: :dragapult: :skarmory: :gliscor:
This team utilizes SD cinderace to just nuke enemies, with hazards to make it much easier to do so. I brought this once vs beaf and it did pretty well, esp with protect keldeo being a real MVP stalling out TR turns. This team focuses on the defensive core of skarm + glisc which is very hard to break with one mon and utilizes the other teammates to constantly rain down on the enemies bullying most form of hazard removal.

---------------------------------------

This was a fun tourney... it really did show me a lot of things and i had a chance to experiment with a lot ofd dumb stuff like clefable, offensive crab, iron treads, and wanted to give some old stuff a try like dragonite, inteleon + rain, and melo-p

I think the only really broken thing is iron hands right now or jolteon thanks to its ability to just nuke most teams with strong tbolt + pivoting in and out leaving many mons weakened along the way, it is very hard to answer jolteon without a gliscor, sp. def slowking-g, or ting lu + hazard removal as it is very hard to take it on alongside its teammates. Iron hands is very very fat and hard to take down, with drain punch + priority chain lighting it can easily snowball out of control especially vs offensive teams, it is also even stronger on grassy terrain teams as it activates its photon drive and makes earthquakes much weaker against it.

Thoughts on certain mons:

:baxcalibur: - SD is good into defensive, DD is pretty darn good into offense, and band clicks button into many things but u cant bring the specific bax set vs teams you have no idea that are coming... this is more so the problem and that is every set struggles with smth differently..

DD: suffers from lack of power esp at +1 compared to SD and this makes its MU's vs stuff like zone, milotic, prim, alomomola, iron hands, crab, etc... THis is good into offense and certainfly far from bad but sometimes you will always feel you chose smth else

SD: offense... this really does suck into offense thanks to blocking scale shot isnt that hard thanks to our many mons being able to screw it over like zone, primarina, milotic, or generally just being hard to sweep thanks to the def drop from scale shot and this makes it wide open to stuff like ice shard weavile, kingambit, faster scarfers like booster valiant, darkrai, and meow.

Band: very expolitable and has to predict often to break through pokemon, good in the right MU's

:jolteon: super bullshit, the only hard checks it has is gliscor (doesnt like overheat -> round) and esp if its phys def gliscor it will be in for a surprise. Slowking-g which takes a lot from tbolt -> pivot move which makes it a high priority to be high health and even then this can be dealt with hazards, other mons who want slowkng-g to check it to overwhelm it for jolteon, or just tech on shadow ball and be a super pain in the ass. Every other ground type has a miserable time vs it like swampert, ting lu, lando-t all dont want to take repeated overheats or dazzling gleam -> round which will wear it down.

:raging bolt: its very hard to answer... you have to protect yourself from dragon rage boosts while also not giving it free calm mind opportunities, very limited pokemon can answer a raging bolt thanks to that and often times have to protect themselves from thunderclap to. it has 2 great abilities where prehistoric might ruins setup sweepers like weavile, SD cinderace, valiant, dd dragonite, and more while protosyntheis makes it so that it can just clap things much easier

+1 252+ SpA Raging Bolt Thunderclap vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Weavile: 223-264 (79.3 - 93.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252+ SpA Protosynthesis Raging Bolt Thunderclap vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Weavile: 291-343 (103.5 - 122%) -- guaranteed OHKO

this makes it much easier to break through defensive pokemon to as even slowking-g a good answer who can pivot in and out has to be much more weary of it and even smth like great tusk doesnt want to hard switch into a dragon rage esp if its offensive with no bulk.

:iron hands: lets see...

- great bulk and you almost always invest fully in sp. def
- with setup it can almost always take a turn and swords dance up and run with it
- it can run with it because of chain lighting its priority move which is very hard for any offensive mon to switch around esp since the ones that do like dragapult (has to be kept near full health), jolteon (same thing, or it doesnt even KO iron hands in return), kyurem (victim to drain punch and cant even kill iron hands with specs draco), ogerpon heartflame who cant even 1v1 it thanks to drain punch healing it out of range, and more... almost all need a lot of support
- in grassy terrain iron hands is 100% broken as it is unkillable and superpowered

Vaporemons UU day 2:

1713293498865.png
VS
1713293498865.png

I wanted to talk about mons i found very very interesting in the meta

1. :heatran: - heatran is the best fez counter in the entire tier... doesnt care about wisp, with binding band it outdamages roost even with earth power and with echo chamber forget about it. Fez often givse free turns to it so heatran can get its stuff going and with ur own fez you can setup healing stones to heal it back up to good health

Flame Body / Flash fire is an option but i feel flame body is better especially against all the physical contanct moves going around.. set of the heatran that i used.

2. :samurott-hisui: with this set im using it forces a lot of progress especially when it gets switch ins like vs slowkng, heatran, metagross, slowbro,wo chien and with encore you can force them to hit you with weak moves for ex. rotom-w hitting you with pain split instead of a volt switch, or locking fez into roost and taking advantage of that, maybe even lock the hydrapple into nasty plot.

3. :hydrapple: with these 2 sets im talking about it brings a lot of utility and bulk to the table. It can shelter vs a lot of the tier and especially vs many rockers like garg, heatran, sandy shocks, swampert, etc. And with rollout can bring in many dangerous pokemon in and abuse regen to get health back up...

nasty plot hydrapple is a different story especially if it surprises you! it can easily get going with giga drain to heal back up any damage or use a +2 draco meteor to nuke almost anything neutral or use earth power to hit foes like heatran, tinkaton, fez, and more

4. :iron boulder: thanks to baseball bat a lot of its power issues are solved but still... it doesnt hit that hard and especially against bulky foes you will notice it like hydrapple, rotom-w, phys def slowking, slowbro, tables of ruin wo chien, etc. It has a great speed stat and is pretty much the fastest mon in the tier (btw zama-h should be OU not UU cuz its like A-) and it can spam into a lot of teams esp with hazards up

A set I like to use is 4 attacks but swords dance is a viable option esp since it lets you take advantage of switch ins like fez, hydrapple, or passive pokemon who are just looking to outstall you like slowbro, wo chien, garg, etc.

We have some big post-tournament news!

Thanks to all the data we have from the tournament, the council recently voted on a number of nerfs and even a couple buffs, which I'll share with you now, along with a brief explanation as to why they were slated

-:iron hands: Iron Hands loses Chain Lightning - Swords Dance Chain Lightning Iron Hands has been one of the most popular and most controversial sweepers in VaporeMons ever since Chain Lightning was added in Slate 4. With Chain Lightning being a physical Electric-type Water Shuriken, Iron Hands has a super easy time wiping a team if their Ground-type is weak or dead, made worse by the fact that most Ground-types have a hard time KOing it in its natural habitat of Grassy Terrain, giving Iron Hands a chance to Ice Punch them away. We were able to put up with Iron Hands' shenanigans for quite a long time, but it's clear that we really needed to do something about it now that many players agree that Iron Hands is now a top 2 Pokemon in the metagame based on it. While a massive nerf, removing Chain Lightning is the cleanest and easiest way to go about this. Iron Hands takes a MASSIVE hit to its viability, but it should still be decent on Grassy Terrain teams thanks to its great natural synergy with them.
-:jolteon: Jolteon loses Overheat - Jolteon has also been a hot topic (pun not intended) for awhile, with its decent power, high Speed, and good coverage combined with the insane chip damage of Battle Spines making it a crazy good progress maker. Jolteon is super hard to handle defensively since most Ground switch-ins take a ton of damage to the combination of Overheat + Round + 2 hits of Battle Spines, meanwhile Round switches Jolteon out, making it hard to pin down. And don't even get me started on Weather Ball. Thus, after weighing our options a bit, we decided to drop Overheat from Jolteon, giving it a much harder time beating Ground and Grass-types, now being a lot more reliant on weather or Round chip to get past them, making it generally easier to deal with.
-:raging bolt: Raging Bolt loses Dragon Rage - Raging Bolt truthfully wasn't very high on our radar, but we still unanimously agreed that making it lose Dragon Rage would be healthier for the metagame. Raging Bolt is just as amazing here as it is in OU, making up for not having Tera by getting two great buffs in Prehistoric Might and especially Dragon Rage, which is Dragon Pulse but you get a SpA boost if you get hit during the entire turn. This combined with Raging Bolt's huge bulk made it super easy for Bolt to eat hits and accumulate boosts, letting it break past whatever you throw at it with ease and farming boosts on Magnezone, which would otherwise be a great pivot into it. Removing it makes it easier to safely check with Grounds that lack recovery and Magnezone, but Raging Bolt will still remain a top threat.
-:cobalion: Echo Chamber becomes 80 BP and Cobalion loses Echo Chamber - A very recent development, Echo Chamber has shown to be a pretty absurd move on multiple Pokemon, namely Magnezone, Archaludon, and the overlooked-until-now Cobalion, with it already being a better Flash Cannon that shoots up to 135 BP on the next turn, making it tough tank consistently, especially from Cobalion since its Steely Spirit doubles its power and does insane things like OHKOing resists without a boosting item. Council had a variety of opinions on how to deal with Echo Chamber, but the general trend lead to a slight BP nerf and removing it from its strongest (as in power, not viability) user in Cobalion, making this move much easier to stomach.
-:archaludon: Archaludon will be suspect tested in the distant future - With Rain popping off recently, council decided to look at one of its best abusers in Archaludon. While it lacks Tera which was part of what got it banned in OU, its typing, Stamina, role compression, and boosting in Electro Shot still make it pretty ridiculous. Since the buffs that Archaludon did get, being Echo Chamber and Dragon Rage, aren't a major component in what makes it potentially broken here (especially since we're nerfing Echo Chamber), we voted on whether we should Ban it, Suspect Test it immediately, or Suspect Test it at a later time, potentially after other things. All of us agreed on just a suspect test, with the majority opting for having later down the road. We'll closely monitor how Archaludon and Rain perform after the Echo Chamber nerf to see if we'll have to move up this timeline.
-:darkrai: Darkrai gains Nasty Plot - Darkrai's arc in VaporeMons has been a rollercoaster. It was freed too early as an adjustment sub in Slate 9 (which was before DLC2), was broken, got nerfed, was still broken, got re-banned at the same time as the thing that made it broken (Blunder Policy) got nerfed, got reintroduced but without its nerfs reverted so it was just a cheese option with Dark Void and nothing else, then we banned Sleep and gave it Calm Mind back, it still sucked, and now we've finally come full circle and letting it have Nasty Plot again. Insane journey, but in the end Darkrai should now be a pretty good option as a sweeper and now can actually compete with Iron Jugulis as a special Dark-type breaker.
-:meloetta-pirouette: Meloetta-Pirouette's Dancing Shoes now once again provide hazard immunity - This was a very recent nerf so it's a bit weird to revert it so quickly at a glance, but this came about mainly just because the combination of losing Mega Kick and hazard immunity was a little too harsh for Meloetta-P. While a lot of us knew this and were okay with this at the time, with the dust now settled we figured that it won't hurt to gift Melo-P its hazard immunity back, which should give it a real place in the metagame again, which is nice as it's another option to offensively deal with one of the best offensive threats in the metagame in Weavile and provides nice utility with its hazard-immune Rapid Spinning.

Some other things were discussed as well, namely a Wash Away nerf, but nothing else reached a majority this time around.

That's all for now, see you soon!
