Doublade @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Gyro Ball
- Sacred Sword

Doublade as a check. Doublade can switch into anything the posted Salamence set can throw at it, being 3HKOed by unboosted Earthquake and 2HKOed by +1 Earthquake, and hit back hard with Gyro Ball. Gyro Ball + Shadow Sneak kills a +1 Salamence 100% of the time, while an unboosted Mence only avoids the kill from Gyro + Sneak if taking low rolls at full health. Doublade does have to be wary of getting worn down and must watch out for Fire Blast, however.

unboosted mence:
252 Atk Salamence Earthquake vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 106-126 (33.2 - 39.4%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Doublade Gyro Ball (122 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Salamence: 235-277 (70.9 - 83.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Doublade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Salamence: 78-93 (23.5 - 28%) -- 85.4% chance to 4HKO

+1 mence:
+1 252 Atk Salamence Earthquake vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 158-188 (49.5 - 58.9%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO

Guess ill do one for fun in the name of badcri', currently in this meta forre has had some issues but it doesn't make it that bad right now.....okay its pretty passive but!
It allows for hazard removal on the attempted setup, hazard placement of your choice, and offers you some slow volting in cases where you are sure they are heading to a mon that can take advantage of you and isn't a ground type.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Volt Switch
- Spikes / stealthrock
- Rapid Spin

This spread may have some use now as it also aids in sylveons presence in the meta as well as offering you a decent enough counter to the aforementioned salemence set.

+3 252 Atk Salamence Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 16+ Def Forretress: 188-222 (53.1 - 62.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
where as even at +2 gyro is doing
0 Atk Forretress Gyro Ball (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Salamence: 178-210 (53.7 - 63.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Suicune as a counter!

Yea ok maybe someone thinks this set is bad due to not have sleep talk (which is good for every cune), but this set is really good to check/counter some dragon types. I'll show you some calcs.

140 SpA Suicune Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Salamence: 332-392 (100.3 - 118.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Salamence Outrage vs. 252 HP / 116+ Def Suicune: 147-174 (36.3 - 43%) -- 97.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 Atk Salamence Outrage vs. 252 HP / 116+ Def Suicune: 220-261 (54.4 - 64.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Why that strange EV Spread? because so suicune can kill salamence without risking rolls...

So, suicune can easily switch out vs. every salamence, tank the hit/hits and punish it with ice beam (unless mence is yache berry), also if salamence used DD (it tanks 2 outrages tho if salamence didnt dance).

Alright, week 2 is now over! I have got to say the competition was rough this week, most of the nominations were on point so good job to you guys but I had to make choices:

Counters:
Porygon-2 (Floushaide)
Aggron-Mega (GXS)
Forretress (Killintime)

Checks:
Empoleon (Hogg)
Whimsicott (dingbat)
Doublade (LeoLancaster)

--------------

This weeks nomination is one of the most consistent wallbreakers of this metagame, able to threaten every teams thanks to its great typing offensivly:

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off/Superpower
- Icicle Crash

Cobaltion as a check

Cobalion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head

Shuca Cobaltion is a nice check to Mamo. It can take an earthquake with the shuca berry, and then Ohko him with Close Combat. It can also take earthquake + ice shard.

Mamo's Earthquake : 252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Shuca Berry Cobalion: 187-222 (57.7 - 68.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Mamo's Ice Shard : 252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Ice Shard vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Cobalion: 38-45 (11.7 - 13.8%) -- possible 8HKO

Cobaltion's Close Combat : 252 Atk Cobalion Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mamoswine: 366-432 (101.3 - 119.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Calling bulky Gyarados as a counter

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 216 HP / 184 Def / 60 SpD / 48 Spe
Impish Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Waterfall
- Roar

Gyarados pretty comfortably takes anything Mamoswine throws at it. The only thing it really doesn't like taking is a Freeze-Dry which sucks anyway. Just Rest off any damage taken and phaze to your heart's content. I personally like Thunder Wave though, because fuck everything go yellow magic

EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature

- Sleep Talk
- Roar / Calm Mind

Suicune is a Hard Check to Life Orb Mamoswine, as it's beastly physical bulk allows it to take even Adamant Earthquakes rather well, and with Rest, it can heal all of the damage it takes from Mamoswine. Scald hits Mamoswine for an easy 2HKO, with a chance to burn it as well, crippling it and wearing it down even further with LO recoil. The only problem with switching in Suicune on Mamoswine is that with a bit of residual damage, Suicune can be 2HKOed by Earthquake, and it's even easier to do that with hazards up. However, Suicune still works as a Mamoswine check even with it's problems with residual damage.

252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Suicune: 153-183 (37.8 - 45.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Suicune: 153-183 (37.8 - 45.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Def / 216 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald

Alomomola can switch into anything Mamo can throw at it, heal up with Wish + Protect, and stall it out with LO recoil. Adamant EQ has a small chance to 2HKO Alo after rocks which can be avoided by clicking Protect right off the bat, but the sunfish will still be forced into a WishTect cycle until Mamo dies. It's either a shaky counter or a hard check.

252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 195-230 (40.5 - 47.8%) -- 3.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Rotom-C is a simple check here, it can come in as a revenge killer or can come in on a properly predicted Earthquake. Not much really new here in the long run, sorry for the short description but that's all really. >.>

Reserving Rotom-Heat

Rotom-Heat as a check

Rotom-Heat @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 52 Def / 208 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Rotom-Heat makes for a solid check to Mamoswine, sporting an immunity to Ground and Mamoswine's most powerful move, Earthquake, and a resistance to Ice type attacks due to its Fire typing. The given speed investment allows Rotom-H to outspeed Jolly Mamoswine and burn it with Will-O-Wisp before it can hit Rotom-H with a Knock Off (I run 216 speed for Jolly Gyara but since this only is for Mamo, 208 EVs suffice...). Unless you do it the Zheng way, you should be good to go. After only 1 round of LO recoil Overheat will always 2HKO Thick Fat Mamoswine, while Pain Split can be used to gain back health from Mamo's fat HP stat.

Versus Adamant LO:
252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 52 Def Rotom-H: 136-161 (44.8 - 53.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Life Orb burned Mamoswine Knock Off (65 BP) vs. 248 HP / 52 Def Rotom-H: 45-53 (14.8 - 17.4%) -- possible 6HKO *yum*
252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 248 HP / 52 Def Rotom-H: 88-105 (29 - 34.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Versus Jolly LO:
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 52 Def Rotom-H: 125-147 (41.2 - 48.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Life Orb burned Mamoswine Knock Off (65 BP) vs. 248 HP / 52 Def Rotom-H: 42-49 (13.8 - 16.1%) -- possible 7HKO *snack*
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 248 HP / 52 Def Rotom-H: 82-96 (27 - 31.6%) -- 63.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Overheat:
0 SpA Rotom-H Overheat vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thick Fat Mamoswine: 222-264 (61.4 - 73.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
-2 0 SpA Rotom-H Overheat vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thick Fat Mamoswine: 110-132 (30.4 - 36.5%) -- 50% chance to 3HKO

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Sucker Punch
- Foul Play

Umbreon as a check. Umbreon can switch-in on any move Mamoswine uses that isn't Superpower, can use Protect to scout for the Superpower, and can avoid the small chance for Mamoswine to 2HKO after Rocks with Earthquake due to Superpower as well. Without Superpower, Mamoswine is unable to 2HKO Umbreon outright so Umbreon can make use of WishTect recovery to put it down within range of Foul Play / Sucker Punch. While Sucker Punch and physically defensive Umbreon may seem weird, the former allows defensive archetypes, particularly stall, to have better counterplay against Hoopa and Mega Beedrill among others while the latter allows Umbreon to better deal with strong physical attackers like Mamoswine, Gyarados and the like so it's not the most niche. Anyhow I wouldn't call Umbreon a counter due to Mamoswine being able to flinch it with Icicle Crash, and also due to the potential presence of Superpower, as well as the need for it to be very healthy in order to even function as a Mamoswine check in the first place.

Calcs:

0 Atk Umbreon Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mamoswine: 204-241 (56.5 - 66.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 Atk Umbreon Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mamoswine: 73-87 (20.2 - 24%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Umbreon: 157-187 (39.8 - 47.4%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Umbreon: 134-160 (34 - 40.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Reserving Celebi

Celebi @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Natural Cure

Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Swords Dance / Nasty Plot
- Baton Pass
- Recover
- Seed Bomb / Giga Drain

Celebi as a (hard) check

Saw this on the ladder when I made my suspect run when I played one of many WeaknessPass teams on the ladder. Thought it was pretty cool, and if you bluff it right, it makes for a really good switch-in to Mamoswine. The goal itself is rather simple: bring Celebi in if Mamoswine is clicking Earthquake or Stealth Rock.

The latter is preferred since it won't give away your bulk and lack of leftovers.

Using Celebi's base 100 Speed stat, you try to bluff a run-of-the-mill NP set. Very few Mamoswine players are willing to risk losing such a useful wallbreaker, so at worst you'll end up getting hit with an Ice Shard. If the player does stay in, Mamoswine cannot OHKO max-Defence Celebi unless it's taken ~25% damage, and has now most likely activated your Weakness Policy, turning either Seed Bomb or Giga Drain into a guaranteed OHKO (approx 67% max roll for Seed Bomb beforehand, and its the weaker of the two options). If you get really lucky, they Ice Shard like a goof and then you're only taking 36% at most.

In the event you've opted for Giga Drain, or got hit by an Ice Shard, you're most likely still capable of getting a Baton Pass up to something like Sharpedo or Yanmega, which 9 times out of 10 just wins at this point. Of course, this whole play only works once, and it relies on the Mamoswine player not realizing your bulk until its too late.
