Project UU Victim of the Week (Round Twenty Four: Rhyperior)

The Winner is:
189782

Estarossa

Estarossa wins this week with the power of Latias! Congratulations and thank you for all the submissions this week! InfernoDolphin73 you won that was mb.

Checks:
Calm Mind Latias=7
Doublade=6
Scizor=6
Celebi=4
Mimikyu=4
Hippowdon=1
Mega Altaria=0
Life Orb Latias=0

Faded and I have come to another conclusion though, Mimikyu is now banned from Victim. We realized that Disguise overall warps Mimikyu and makes it a check all mon thanks to its ability. I will update the ruleset to include all the Pokemon that are currently banned from being selected as checks or counters. If you have any concerns about any of them please contact me.

Round 23's Victim is:
Choice Specs Hydreigon

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Flash Cannon / U-turn
- Fire Blast / U-turn

Hydreigon is arguably one of UnderUsed's most splashable Pokémon thanks to its versatility among its sets, so we're gonna take a look at its Choice Specs set. If you can afford speed control on another Pokémon, Hydreigon makes for a powerful choiced wallbreaker thanks to its colorful coverage moves. Get your submissions in by Tuesday as usual. Thank you and have a good day!

Primarina @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Defensive Primarina is a great counter to specs hydreigon, as it is able to avoid the 3hko from flash cannon from full if rocks are not up, while taking very little damage from any of it's other attacks, and is immune to draco, while OHKOing in return with moonblast, and being able to keep itself up via resttalk.

252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 84-99 (23 - 27.1%) -- 1.1% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 76-90 (20.8 - 24.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 112-132 (30.7 - 36.2%) -- 58.9% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0- Atk Hydreigon U-turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Primarina: 20-24 (5.4 - 6.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 84-99 (23 - 27.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 76-90 (20.8 - 24.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 112-132 (30.7 - 36.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
0- Atk Hydreigon U-turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Primarina: 20-24 (5.4 - 6.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover

Yeah so this is pretty self explanatory. Latias is a good check to Specs Hydreigon, since it's not Scarf and doesn't have to fear getting nuked by Draco Meteor. You could really use any set here, but I decided on Life Orb due to its wallbreaking capabilities and access to recovery. It can also come in on a predicted Fire Blast if you're feeling ballsy.

Terrakion is very reliable and solid check to Specs Hydreigon. Terrakion can come to revenge Hydreigon and then set up a swords dance to start killing things.

Terrakion @ Rockium Z
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Earthquake

maxresdefault.jpg
Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return

- Earthquake
- Roost

Mega Altaria
has the typing and bulk to withstand Dark Pulse and Fire Blast from Choice Specs Hydreigon. It is also immune to Draco Meteor because of its fairy-typing.
Mega Altaria also can just set-up Dragon Dances on hydreigon and can use it therefore as a set-up fodder to break through afterwards.
The only concern Mega Latias has is when Hydreigon runs Flash Cannon, Mega Altaria can't come in when Hydreigon is locked into its Flash Cannon coverage.
However Mega Altaria is a pretty good answer to hydreigon as the Hydreigon User has to predict correctly throughout the entire game to catch Mega Altaria with its Flash cannon.
Mega Altaria also offers Roost for its longevity and can be through the entirety of the game making the Cotton-Fairy-Dragon a good check to Hydreigon.

Calcs:
Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. Altaria-Mega: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Altaria-Mega: 91-108 (29.4 - 34.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Altaria-Mega: 84-99 (27.1 - 32%) -- 68.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0- Atk Hydreigon U-turn vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Altaria-Mega: 22-26 (7.1 - 8.4%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Altaria-Mega: 244-288 (78.9 - 93.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Pixilate Altaria-Mega Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 852-1008 (262.1 - 310.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell

Switches into everything bar Flash Cannon just fine and destroys Hydreigon with Hyper Voice. Check because of aforementioned Flash Cannon, U-turn and Sylveon’s reliance on Wish.

Infernape @ Firium Z
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- U-turn

Another fighting check that can kill Hydreigon, but this one has the option of U-turning out or SD on Fireblast/Flashcannon/Dpulse

Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Symbiosis
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Synthesis
- Aromatherapy
- Defog

Moonblast KOs Hydregion and Flash Cannon does a maximum of 57.2%. Aromatherapy heals status of your team and Defog keeps entry hazards away.

Scizor @ Choice Scarf
Adamant Nature
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
- Bug Bite
- Metal Claw/Bullet Punch
- Knock Off/Brutal Swing
- Superpower
Scizor is an excellent CHECK because it absorbs an Draco Meteor and can out speed with the Choice scarf and Ohko with Bug bite.
Scarf Scisor is a very splashable Pokemon set hence all the Moveset options.

252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Scizor: 185-218 (65.8 - 77.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Technician Scizor Bug Bite vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 354-416 (108.9 - 128%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Yeah, but Hydreigon has more than Draco. If it was already locked in, that’s one thing, but how’s it a counter if it has to switch into Fire Blast or Dark Pulse? Fire Blast is always a kill, and Dark Pulse is a roll 2:1 in Hydreigon’s favor after rocks.

Call this a check.
