Tornadus-T is a staple of many teams, from balance to offense teams, given its wide utility movepool and survivability due to Regenerator. U-Turn allows it to pivot on the likes of Heatran and Gholdengo and bring offensive teammates like Iron Valiant and Great Tusk in. Tornadus-T is an excellent Defogger with its natural longevity and positive matchups against common hazard setters such as Landorus-T, Great Tusk, and defensive Garchomp. However, Taunt is an alternative to deny defensive Pokemon such as Clodsire and Skeledirge from healing, as well as preventing Annihilape from boosting. Taunt can also shut down status and hazard attempts from the likes of Ferrothorn and Ting-Lu. Knock Off is a fantastic tool to make progress, removing the Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots from Rotom-W, Gholdengo, and Toxapex, which would otherwise switch into Tornadus-T. Heat Wave is an alternative option to hit Ferrothorn, Gholdengo, and Mega Scizor for major damage, keeping hazards off against the former and preventing the latter two from boosting freely. Flyinium Z is a rare option over Heavy-Duty Boots for more immediate damage against Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T and Garchomp. Tornadus-T rarely Terastallizes, although Tera Steel can be useful in a pinch to resist Mega Lopunny's Return, Dragonite's Extreme Speed, and opposing Tornadus-T's Hurricane. The given Speed EVs allow Tornadus-T to outspeed unboosted Iron Valiant, with defensive EVs helping it check Mega Lopunny and Great Tusk. Tornadus-T fits best on bulky offense and balance teams, providing the overall team with valuable longevity and pivoting while wearing down the opposition and removing entry hazards. Tornadus-T pairs fantastically with Spikes users such as Ferrothorn and Gastrodon, as its Knock Off lets Spikes dig into Heavy-Duty Boots users. Additionally, they help Tornadus-T with its Electric weakness whilst Tornadus-T shores up their Fighting and Grass weaknesses. Powerful attackers such as Iron Valiant and Dragapult appreciate Tornadus giving them safe entry against common Steel-types such as Heatran and Gholdengo, to make up for their frailty. Tornadus-T can be vulnerable to Pursuit from the likes of Mega Tyranitar and Kingambit, so Pokemon that can exploit them such as Zamazenta, Mega Lopunny, Great Tusk, and Iron Valiant make good partners. Tornadus-T also functions excellently on rain teams alongside Pelipper and Mega Swampert, as the rain makes Hurricane reliable and the other team members appreciate it pivoting into Grass-type moves.

Tornadus-T is an excellent wallbreaker and sweeper effective on a wide variety of teams. Hurricane is preferred over Bleakwind Storm, as the extra Base Power and confusion chance can be vital in muscling past bulky targets such as Clodsire, especially if forgoing Knock Off. Focus Blast and Heat Wave provide coverage against Steel-types, with the former also hitting Mega Tyranitar and Heatran while the latter KOs Gholdengo. Knock Off allows Tornadus to weaken checks such as Rotom-W and Zapdos to muscle past them with entry hazard support. It also cripples common Heavy-Duty Boots users such as Clodsire, Gastrodon, and Tapu Koko. Taunt is an alternative to shut down passive Pokemon such as Clodsire and Ting-Lu, which pack Toxic and phazing, respectively. Defog is a niche option on teams that appreciate the resulting role compression. Flyinium Z provides an accurate one-time nuke that can break past resistant Pokemon such as Rotom-W after a boost and mild chip damage, as well as heavily damaging the likes of Landorus-T and opposing Tornadus-T unboosted. 4 HP EVs maximize the recovery Tornadus-T receives from Regenerator. Tornadus-T fits best on stall and bulky balance teams, giving them a great way to close out games and revenge kill foes. Because of its relative frailty, it requires bulky cores to fall back on when a revenge killer forces it out. Unaware users such as Skeledirge and Clodsire pair excellently with it, handling the strong boosting sweepers that easily overpower Tornadus-T, while it provides Regenerator in return to switch into weak attacks without wasting their recovery PP. Toxapex also makes a great partner, as the two together form a double Regenerator core that staves off residual damage from the likes of Garganacl and burns from opposing Toxapex and Gastrodon. Toxapex additionally pivots into many Pokemon that outspeed Tornadus-T, including Zamazenta, Dragapult, Weavile, and Barraskewda in rain.
