Kyurem @ Metronome
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 56 HP / 196 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Roost

Kyurem comes out on mega lati and then 2hkos with ib, it can then sub and Roost on ferrothorn until it runs out of power whips since it lacks gyro ball to break it in one go, and whittle it down with ib.

0 SpA Latias-Mega Ice Beam vs. 56 HP / 4 SpD Kyurem: 95-112 (23.4 - 27.6%) -- 77.4% chance to 4HKO

0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 56 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 67-79 (16.5 - 19.5%) -- possible 6HKO

Greninja (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Ice Beam
- Gunk Shot
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Spikes

Broken Gren back at it again rofl, HP Fire + Ice Beam threaten the fuck out of this core and it can set up Spikes to fuck with Ferro and wear it down for Gren himself to take him out. One problem for this Gren set against the archetype of teams that these two fit under is that they regularly feature Toxapex, so you need to be aggressive setting up Spikes and pressuring Pex whenever possible, but it's far from an unwinnable matchup if your team is made properly and you play your Greninja well.

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Thunder Punch
- Sucker Punch
- Fire Fang

AoA Mega Mawile is able to break this core with Play Rough and Fire Fang, OHKOing Mega Latias and Ferrothorn respectively. Mega Latias can do a decent chunk with HP Fire, however Ferrothorn will not be able to get off an attack before its knocked out.

252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Latias-Mega: 474-560 (130.2 - 153.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 24 Def Ferrothorn: 416-492 (118.1 - 139.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Latias-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 122-144 (46.2 - 54.5%) -- 55.9% chance to 2HKO

Actually reserving Mega Gallade

181073

Gallade @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Knock Off

So the differences between Gallade and Medicham, like higher speed, Knock Off and a boosting move, are the key things that allow it to overwhelm the core. All you have to is SD once you win the speed-tie, as Latias only 4HKOS (play cautiously against Ferrothorn, as it may TWave on an SD and get lucky, and pulling the CC trigger might just get you killed). From there, its simply a matter of clicking Knock Off on Lati (which it can’t outroost after the SD) and Close Combatting Ferrothorn to death.

Reserving Mega-Sableye :D

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Toxic

Statistics said that this set is viable atm: https://porydex.quinlancircle.com/stats/2019-05/gen-7-ou/1825/pokemon/sableye-mega

Sableye can Knock Off the Leftovers of Ferrothorn, can burn him and can toxic Latias. Moreover, he blocks the spikes of Ferrothorn.
Finally, he doesn't take a lot of damage against them:
0 SpA Latias Surf vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Sableye-Mega: 46-55 (15.1 - 18.1%) -- possible 6HKO
0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Sableye-Mega: 102-120 (33.6 - 39.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Otherwise, the only think that Sableye needs is a strong answer to Tapu Lele, like Jirachi, Celesteela or Magearna, because of the absence of Protect.

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge / Crunch
- Fire Punch
- Stealth Rock

Godzilla is a big green problem for any MLatias core without TSpikes, so here he is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Crunch is an option over Stone Edge just in case MLatias tries to be cute and stay in on Pursuit, but honestly, it's cleanly 2HKO'd by SE anyway.

0 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 100-118 (26.1 - 30.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Pursuit (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Latias-Mega: 290-344 (79.6 - 94.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock)
252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Latias-Mega: 183-216 (50.2 - 59.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 168 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 174-206 (45.4 - 53.7%) -- 41.4% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 24 Def Ferrothorn: 336-396 (95.4 - 112.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO (guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock)

hoopa_unbound_by_evievsart_dbdfd9e-fullview.png

Hoopa-Unbound @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Magician
EVs: 32 HP / 224 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

Fightinium Z Hoopa-Unbound is a big threat to that core as it doesn't necessarily needs to setup infront of Ferrothorn and take the risk of getting paralyzed, due to Z-Focus Blast has a
really high chance to OHKO Ferrothorn with a chance of 93% and Hoopa-U can also setup on Mega-Latias with Nasty Plot, due to its good special defense it is able to take any hit
Mega-Latias might go for. Also Hoopa-Unbound after a +2 OHKOs Mega-Latias safely with its STAB Dark Pulse and without a boost its a clear 2HKO.
In overall Ferrothorn and mega-Latias dislike the appearance of Hoopa-U in the opposing team as it is bulky enough to use Mega-Latias as setup fodder and has a high Chance of OHKOing Ferrothorn w/o a boost
with its Fight-Z boosted Focus Blast.

Calcs:
Ferrothorn calcs:
224 SpA Hoopa-Unbound All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn: 328-388 (93.1 - 110.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
224 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn: 208-246 (59 - 69.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
224 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn: 105-124 (29.8 - 35.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Hoopa-Unbound: 186-219 (60.1 - 70.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Mega-Latias calcs:
224 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 222-264 (60.9 - 72.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 224 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 440-522 (120.8 - 143.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

0 SpA Latias-Mega Ice Beam vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 69-82 (22.3 - 26.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 69-82 (22.3 - 26.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Latias-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 46-55 (14.8 - 17.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock

Magearna with Focus Blast and Fleur Cannon is a common OU choice that has a good match-up against this core. Provided below are 2 sets with differing Z moves that do similarly well against this core. Both set up moves availible must also be considered.

181187

Magearna @ Fairium Z OR Fightinium Z
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shift Gear
- Calm Mind OR Thunderbolt
- Fleur Cannon
- Focus Blast

- Can be brought in on Latias via a volt switch or U-turn user, OR a double switch.

-Easily tanks Hp Fire: 0 SpA Latias-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Magearna: 102-122 (33.8 - 40.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO ; while
-Threatening with Fleur Cannon: 252 SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 300-354 (82.4 - 97.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO.

Magearna can apply pressure to the enemy team by using Shift Gear or Calm Mind, and can potentially sweep the enemy team if its checks are gone.

In furtherance of this, Magerna can also heavily dent Ferrothorn with Focus Blast or All Out Pummeling:
-252 SpA Magearna Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn: 174-206 (49.4 - 58.5%) -- 64.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery ;
-252 SpA Magearna All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn: 274-324 (77.8 - 92%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery.

If Magearna has already netted a KO and is at +1 Sp.Atk, or is carrying Calm Mind then ferrothorn is KO'ed by an All Out Pummeling.
It should be noted that Magearna does not appreciate a
Leech Seed or Thunder Wave from Ferrothorn.

In short:
- Mage can check Mega Latias;
- Mage can set up on, and threaten Latias with a super-effective attack or Z move;
- Mage can threaten and sometimes OHKO, but usually 2HKO Ferrothorn, depending on its Z move;
- Mage is impaired, but not removed or checked, by Ferrothorn.

Conclusion: Focus Blast Magearna is a large threat to this common core.

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze / Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Speed
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake
- Roost

3 attacks Mega Charizard X is a threat to this core as it can OHKO Ferrothorn with Flare Blitz and OHKO Mega Latias with Outrage (STABs). Obviously it fears switching into potential thunder wave from Ferrothorn and getting seeded is annoying, but neither member of this core carry moves that can even 2HKO this beast (Surf and Ice Beam are 3HKO at best). 3 attacks works out well versus this core because it has a tendency to be ran with stuff like Fini or Heatran, which EQ still hits hard. Roost gives it some longevity in case it does get seeded or needs to come in on a Surf/Ice Beam from Latias.

252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Outrage vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Latias-Mega: 434-512 (119.2 - 140.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Latias-Mega Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 99-117 (33.3 - 39.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 99-117 (33.3 - 39.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 24 Def Ferrothorn: 792-936 (225 - 265.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 28-33 (9.4 - 11.1%) -- possible 9HKO

Azumarill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 228 SpD / 28 Spe
Calm Nature
- Perish Song
- Whirlpool
- Protect
- Toxic

Perish Trap Azu is an unorthodox but effective way to easily take down this core. Thanks to Ferrothorn's sole attacking move being Power Whip, Sap Sipper allows Azumarill to easily wall it once it's lured and trapped. While the lack of Play Rough obviously makes this set less immediately threatening to Mega Latias, it is also very easy to sit in front of it thanks to Azumarill's solid spdef and Latias's lack of damage output vs it.

I'm not sure I need to post calcs due to Ferro's inability to touch it, but if anyone was curious, Latias does 10.6% on a max roll.

In addition to this, Azu can play another role that does a good job at breaking this core:

azumarill2.gif

Azumarill @ Normalium Z
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off

Even though it isn't a complete wall to both of these pokemon anymore, Belly Drum allows Azumarill to easily set up on Latias and OHKO both members of this core with Knock Off (or Play Rough in Lati's case). It finds it incredibly easy to switch into Latias thanks to its strong typing and can Belly Drum on the switch to Ferro. This allows it to very easily break down the core single-handedly.

0 SpA Latias-Mega Ice Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 52-61 (15.2 - 17.8%) -- possible 6HKO

0 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 52-61 (15.2 - 17.8%) -- possible 6HKO

0 SpA Latias-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 35-41 (10.2 - 11.9%) -- possible 9HKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Latias-Mega: 586-690 (160.9 - 189.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Latias-Mega: 1214-1430 (333.5 - 392.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 24 Def Ferrothorn: 398-469 (113 - 133.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Overall, Azumarill is a really solid check to this core, regardless of which one of its viable sets it uses. It completely counters Latias and is a solid check to Ferrothorn with Sap Sipper, while also OHKOing with Huge Power assuming it has a Belly Drum up, so it doesn't struggle at all in breaking down the defensive duo.

181982

Tapu Lele @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind

You only need at most 22.2% chip on Ferro to knock it out with All-Out Pummeling. Calm Mind guarantees OHKO w/ Z-Fight on Ferro and you can set up CM on MLatias anyways.

Great week, I was really impressed with the variety of angles taken to break down this core!

Highlights

Threats of the Round:

: LO Clef annihilates this core and easily switches in, while also threatening most of this core's teammates as well.
: Protean HP Fire Gren is a gigantic threat to teams that rely on Ferro to check water types, and is probably the best lure posted this round.
: It's really easy for Kyurem to set up against this kind of core and its team archetype. Metronome in particular is made to dismantle Ferro Balance and other cores like CelePex.
: What does hazard spam balance struggle with? The fattest magic bouncer in OU of course! Sableye alone can be a nuisance to this core. Pair Sableye with a solid Clef counter (the most common teammate to Mega Latias + Ferrothorn) and they shouldn't be able to make much progress against you.

Additional Notes:

None, great job everybody!

Round 71 Core: Tapu Koko + Mega Mawile

Tapu Koko @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 32 HP / 88 Def / 172 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Mawile-Mega @ Mawilite
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Thunder Punch
- Sucker Punch

  • Through the use of offensive pivoting, Tapu Koko provides Mawile with many opportunities to collect kills.
  • Shuca Koko can weaken ground types, notably Lando-T, into Sucker Punch range or outright kill them. In return, Mawile abuses the fat grass types that attempt to check Koko by wallbreaking.
  • Electric Terrain support boosts Mawile's Thunder Punch, allowing it to muscle through Toxapex and significantly weaken Heatran into eventual Sucker Punch range.
As always, try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core. Additionally, your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature Tapu Koko + Mega Mawile. Here's to another week of cteaming!

Reserving Mega Charizard X

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake / Dragon Claw
- Roost

It uses Tapu Koko as set up fodder, and Mega Mawile simply dies to Flare Blitz, with Sucker Punch only doing 52% max.

Ability: Damp
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Stealth Rock

Outspeeds in the rain and OHKOs both, with the neat addition of killing Koko’s momentum completely. Be weary of switching this in on Mawile though—that Play Rough hurts Mega’d or not, especially with the preceding Sucker Punch.

Excadrill @ Steelium Z
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

Excadrill requires sand to. beat this core. Under sand, Drill is able to Swords Dance and OHKO Koko with EQ or Steel-Z, while Koko can only 5HKO with HP Ice. Drill then OHKOs Mawile with EQ, and it tanks a Sucker Punch.

Calcs VS

Didn't see that the Koko was Shuca when I initially nommed Lando-T. Reserving Mega Camerupt instead, then!

Camerupt @ Cameruptite
Modest Nature
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 Spe
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Nature Power
- Stealth Rock

Mega Camerupt has a niche in OU and this is reflected on the VR currently, although it's not quite as good as it used to be; it is used for its ability to greatly threaten several tier staples by virtue of its great defensive typing combined with its downright ridiculous damage output being able to OHKO a good portion of the tier. An unboosted Mega Mawile cannot even come close to OHKOing Mega Camerupt without Focus Punch (which this set conveniently lacks), has to rely on rolls to even 2HKO it, and gets absolutely obliterated in return by either of its STABs. It's also a fantastic defensive check to almost all Koko variants, and Shuca Koko is no exception; the camel can set up Stealth Rock in its face and will generally just force it out, and it has an extremely high chance to OHKO even this Koko variant through its Shuca Berry with Earth Power (it always OHKOs with Fire Blast but the accuracy might prove problematic). Mega Camerupt gets a few bonus points because Koko sets Electric Terrain for it; as long as the Terrain persists this effectively gives Mega Camerupt a STAB Sheer Force boosted Thunderbolt that nullifies many of its would-be switchins, though its STABs alone are usually sufficient enough to ensure that any would-be switchins barring extremely bulky stuff like Chansey will probably get irreparably damaged if not outright killed.

Mega Camerupt is not without its flaws, though. It is painfully slow, it is weak to Ground and particularly Water moves that are quite common in this tier, and its HP is extremely precious and staying healthy is crucial so it can check this Mega Mawile set or Magearna in the lategame. It requires a bit of support to function effectively but that support more than pays off in the long run.

252+ SpA Sheer Force Camerupt-Mega Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Shuca Berry Tapu Koko: 288-340 (99.6 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Sheer Force Camerupt-Mega Fire Blast vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Koko: 352-415 (121.7 - 143.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

172 SpA Tapu Koko Hidden Power Ice vs. 128 HP / 0 SpD Camerupt-Mega: 48-57 (15.3 - 18.2%) -- possible 6HKO

252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Sucker Punch vs. 128 HP / 0 Def Camerupt-Mega: 144-170 (46 - 54.3%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO

252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 128 HP / 0 Def Camerupt-Mega: 139-164 (44.4 - 52.3%) -- 19.1% chance to 2HKO

Reserving Volcarona

Volcarona @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 28 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Flamethrower
- Bug Buzz
- Roost

First of all, this site told me that this set is possible on defensive teams: https://porydex.quinlancircle.com/stats/2019-05/gen-7-ou/1825/pokemon/volcarona .
The EV spread is built to maximize the bulk of Volcarona. Thanks to this, it is a excellent check of Mawile. Moreover, Flame Body punish every touch of Mawile. Finally, Volcarona can setup on Koko with Quiver Dance because it's not 2HKO with Tbolt.

172 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona in Electric Terrain: 160-189 (42.8 - 50.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 228 Def Volcarona: 164-193 (43.9 - 51.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Nevertheless, pivoting of Koko is really annoying for Volcarona, so the team around him will need a ground type ...

Magnezone.png

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Fire
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch

Choice Specs Magnezone is a huge threat to this core as it can tank all of Tapu Kokos Moves but has a Chance to OHKO it back with its STAB in Flash Cannon, the same treatment
goes to Mega Mawile as Mega Mawile doesn't like to get trapped by Magnezone and OHKOed with either Thunderbolt or Flash Cannon. Furthermore Tapu Koko can't Volt Switch out and bring
Mega Mawile in, due to Magnezone OHKOs it with either Thunderbolt or Flash Cannon. Both Tapu Koko and Mega Mawile take a hefty chunk from Hidden Power Fire too,
with the latter of them (Mega Mawile) getting OHKOed by Hidden Power Fire with an almost 50% Chance of doing so.

Calcs:

vs. Koko:

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 24 Def / 232 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Spikes / Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Protect / Thunder Wave / whatever
- Power Whip

This thing walls koko for days, and mawile without fire fang or fighting coverage has serious issues breaking it. It can wear both of them down with leech seed and set up all 3 layers of spikes.
