A mixture of needing to potentially rebalance the TLR and the fact that it doesn't have flavor written yet
Well, are there any recent data, notes, or guidelines on the structure of the TLR and its flavor? I'm willing to help make this TLR operational, but it would be much easier if I knew what foundation I had to work with.

Well, flavor is no longer an excuse, because here you go.

Okay, that's not really an accurate statement, since it will very likely need some editing once it gets a once-over from the TLR committee (or maybe just Jayy). As I note below, I wasn't sure what to write for the non-combat RPs since there's like a million of them in the original TLR, so yeah. Didn't know what to do about that. I also gave the section bland titles since among other things I don't know what arenas you might've had in mind for the various battles, so I just wrote I thought would be good.

...So yeah. If you want me to edit it or write more, then just tell me. If you think it sucks, then I'll drop it.

Thanks for reading.

You’ve finally reached it. And you have to say, you’re a little bit disappointed; the legendary, supposedly impenetrable meadow stands before you on the other side of a one-horse town, which, needless to say, is hardly an impressive sight. The meadow isn’t much better. It’s just a huge field of tall, green grass sloping upward... actually, you realize that you can’t actually see much of what might be up there, as the grass is so thick and tall that it restricts visibility. You also notice that despite passing a lot of farms on the way out here, the townspeople haven’t given the meadow the same treatment, despite its obvious fertility. You have a feeling of apprehension, but you quickly shake it off. You didn’t come this far to give in from some vague disquiet after all. You shove the long blades of grass to the side as you stride into the meadow.

You begin ascending the slope, and it just seems to keep going… and going… and going.

As you start to get a little short of breath, you suddenly enter a clearing where the grass doesn’t seem to be growing nearly as tall. In the middle a long-stemmed pink flower is growing. It seems to simply radiate… life, as if it were the source of all the fertility in the meadow. And it seems utterly beautiful despite being so simple.

As you catch your breath, you ponder if you should pick the flower or not. It’s just so beautiful…

  • Pick the flower [hard mode]
  • Don’t pick the flower [normal mode]
It’s too tempting. You feel impelled to pick it and keep it. Besides, you figure you can probably replant it when you get home. You reach out and pluck the flower out of the ground. As you’re still admiring the beauty of your new prize, a strong wind suddenly sweeps across the plane, and you feel a chill run down your spine. You carefully look around, but there doesn’t seem to be anything coming after you. You look down at the flower one more time. You wonder if perhaps you should’ve done that. Glancing over both shoulders one more time, you hurriedly continue on your way toward the center of the meadow.

You decide not to pick it. You feel like picking something this beautiful, so vibrant and alive from this place would be almost sacrosanct, like you would be violating the whole of the meadow. In short order, you feel good enough to continue, and press on toward the center of the meadow.

Continuing along, you at last feel the incline disappear and the ground level out. Hopefully, it’ll be easier from here on out. As you continue on, the tall grass suddenly disappears and gives way to a forest. It seems to stretch out as far as the eye can see as you look to your left and your right. Filled with awe, you continue forward and quickly stumble into a clearing. Within, you see a Cherubi, a Deerling, and a Petilil playing together. Unfortunately, the noise from your entrance scares off [randomly selected mon]. The other two appear to scared to move. You try to approach slowly to reassure them but the two instead move directly into your path. Looks like you’ll have to fight your way past them.

[Initiate Lackey battle with 2/3 of Cherubi, Deerling, and Petilil]

Moving along, you feel the ground level out underneath your feet. You hope that the way forward will be easier from now on. As you stride through the tall grass, it suddenly gives way to an imposing forest. It stretches as far as the eye can see to your left and right. The forest looms so large that it almost feels actively malevolent toward your presence… but that’s probably just your imagination. You shake off the apprehension and enter the forest.

As you move forward, you quickly stumble into a clearing. Within, you see a Cherubi, a Deerling, and a Petilil playing together. But as soon they notice you, they seem to turn hostile and begin growling at you, moving around to block your path deeper into the forest. It looks like you’ll have to fight your way past them.

:

[Honestly, not sure what I should write here. There’s nothing about what you guys might want here in the thread, other than a possible Necturna encounter, so I guess I’ll write for that. But there’s like a million random non-combat RPs in the original TLR, so not sure what you want there.]

:

Suddenly, from a dark corner of the forest/shadowed part of the meadow, a Necturna appears and approaches your team. As you start to order your team to attack it, you feel it growl ominously and begin glowing lightly, giving you a chance to reconsider your decision. It looks like you’ll have to send your Pokemon after it one at a time to battle it safely.

As you make your way deeper into the forest, you encounter several fallen trees. It looks like a recent storm might’ve blown them over, and in any event, you’re not going to be moving them or otherwise getting by them in any convenient span of time. As you look over the forest before you, you see that the foliage seems to form two paths, as if it was just opening up a couple options for you to make a fork-in-the-road choice here. How convenient. One of these paths has a stream running alongside it; the other seems to have some patches of burnt grass going down it.

  • Follow the stream path
  • Follow the burnt path
You decide the stream looks a bit more inviting than following whatever left those burns in the grass. The trip down the stream is uneventful, at least until to come across a small pond. It seems easy enough to cross; that is, until you wade into a few feet and a trio of angry Lileep suddenly surface to block your way. You have a feeling you’re going to have to fight these three.

[Initiate Lileep x 3 Nest Encounter]

Your curiosity gets the better of you, so you decide to go down the path with the burnt grass. You quickly notice the smell of burning wood getting stronger the deeper in you go along this path, until finally, you reach a small clearing. There’s a fire going here, with branches being used as the fuel, and three Flarelm tending to it. You try to slip by, but they spot you and start coming after you. You have a feeling you’re going to have to fight these three.

[Initiate Flarelm x 3 Nest Encounter]

[Rejoining the main path]

After taking care of those Lileep/Flarelm, you continue on until you get clear of foliage closing you in. You look back down what seems to be the main path and just barely see the pile of fallen trees. This seems like a good resting place before you continue further into the seemingly-misnamed meadow.

[Allow player to heal]

You reach the edge of the forest and resume pressing through the tall grass. After going some distance, you reach a large clearing. You see a Xatu and a Cradily in the center of the clearing, surrounded a group of small Pokemon. There is a bizarre stone spike jutting several feet out of the ground that you can’t imagine the purpose of. The two Pokemon in the middle appear to be communicating with the smaller Pokemon with pleasant chirps and cries. As you step in to try to get a better look, your presence is noticed and the smaller Pokemon flee. The Xatu and Cradily seem less than pleased at your interruption of their gathering, and as they move to flank you, they seem to want to teach you a lesson…

[Initiate Guardian battle with Xatu and Cradily]

You reach the edge of the forest and resume pressing through the tall grass. You’re glad to get out from under the pressing branches and bushes, but the tall grass seems to want to swallow you whole. That notwithstanding, you advance through the grass without incident, until you stumble upon a large clearing. You see a Xatu and an Aerodactyl in the center of the clearing, with the Aerodactyl perched upon a bizarre stone spike jutting several feet out of the ground. The duo are surrounded by smaller Pokemon, and seem to be communicating with them in harsh screeches. You step in to get a better look, but your presence is noticed and the smaller Pokemon flee. The Xatu and Aerodactyl seem angry with your interruption of their gathering, and the stone spike and Aerodactyl both begin to glow. As the light fades, you see the Aerodactyl has undergone Mega Evolution, as well as that it and the Xatu are moving to flank you, as punishment for your intrusion.

[Initiate Guardian Battle with Xatu and Mega Aerodactyl]

Now that those two are taken care of, you have a chance to rest and heal up your team.

After defeating those two, you have a chance to heal your team and catch your breath. You’d better hurry, before those smaller Pokemon come back…

[Allow player chance to heal]

[See previous non-combat RP flavor]

As you press on through the grass, you notice the ground is starting to feel soggy and squishy underfoot. As you stop for a moment, you can faintly hear the sound of water flowing somewhere ahead. At the same time, you notice a wooded area off to the left. It’s still along your path deeper into the meadow, but it’ll take you a ways off to the left.

  • Keep going straight ahead
  • Check out the woods
You continue on your current path. The woods might contain something interesting, but you doubt it’s worth exploring. The ground gets wetter and wetter as you progress, and you quickly discover why: the grass falls away before you and opens up into a river flowing through the meadow. You look to your left to see if you can find the source, but suddenly you hear a splash very close by. You whip around to see the source and just in time to see a Ludicolo has grabbed your [mon with highest HP] and carried it a long way down the river. [trapped mon] managed to get back to the shore, but it’s still far down the river and Ludicolo appears to have been able to get the jump on it with a Leech Seed and Whirlpool…

You start racing down there with the rest of your team, but it’ll take some time to reach.

[Initiate Trap Encounter with Ludicolo]

[After defeating Ludicolo]

You defeat the abducting Ludicolo and decide to take some time to rest up before crossing the river. Your team looks like it could some healing anyway…

[Allow player chance to heal]

You cross the river quite easily and continue ever deeper into the meadow. The sun is starting to set and as the light disappears from the sky, you begin to notice a strange light green glow some distance ahead. You’re definitely moving toward it, and you wonder if this is a sign that your exploration is finally coming to an end.

You cross the river quite easily and continue ever deeper into the meadow. The wind seems to pick up as the sun sets and the sky begins to go dark. You slowly start to notice a strange light green glow some distance ahead. You’re definitely getting closer to it, and you have an unsettling feeling that somehow, you’re about to face some sort of reckoning…

You decide to veer off to the left to check out the woods that are over there. They seem more interesting than another stream, and anyway, there might be something interesting. You reach the trees, and walk around a little, but there’s nothing interesting. You take a look over the forest one last time before returning toward the main path, and suddenly notice that [mon with lowest Atk] has disappeared. Panicked, you look all around for it, but can’t find it! Suddenly, you hear cries of [mon] that seem to be coming from a distressingly far distance into the tall grass. Man… it’s like whatever it is Coveted [mon] and hit you with a Worry Seed or something…

(Meanwhile in the tall grass)

Florges: Tee hee hee! Now you’re ALLLL mine, [mon]!

[Initiate Trap Encounter with Florges]

[after defeating Florges]

You subdue the weirdly-stalkerish Florges and decide to take some time to rest up before continuing on. One of your Pokemon just had a traumatic experience after all, and you think your team could probably use some healing anyway.

[Allow player chance to heal]

After resting up, you set off ever deeper into the meadow. The sun is starting to set and as the light disappears from the sky, you begin to notice a strange light green glow some distance over the right, seemingly down the path you were on earlier. You turn toward it, and you wonder if this is a sign that your exploration is coming to an end.

After resting up, you set off ever deeper into the meadow. The wind seems to pick up as the sun sets and the sky begins to go dark. You slowly start to notice a strange light green glow some distance ahead and off to the right. It looks to be down the path you were on earlier. You turn toward it, and you get the unsettling feeling that you’re about to be punished for your transgressions…

As you close in on the glow, the grass begins to grow both shorter and greener, although you’re unsure whether the grass is greener from more fertility or from the mysterious glow. At the same time, however, as you get right up on the glow, you feel more alive, like the glow is emitting… just pure life energy. You break into the edge of the light, and suddenly find that you are in a well-lit clearing, with the greenest grass you’ve ever seen and beautiful flowers in every color growing. As you take in the beauty, you notice you and your team aren’t alone: there are two Pokemon here. One is a Togekiss, which you easily recognize. The other is a porcupine-like creature, covered in plant life. You realize this must be the legendary Shaymin, and that Shaymin is the source of the glow, the vibrant, rejuvenating energy, and the source of all the life in the meadow. It seems rather upset with you, looking less angry than disappointed, as if you’re an unruly child who must be taught a lesson. As you consider this, you have to admit you have defeated a fair number of the meadow’s Pokemon. But hey! you didn’t intend to harm the meadow, much less have a team member abducted by some random Pokemon late into your journey… then again, most of the Pokemon you fought were just defending their turf… nevermind all that, Shaymin and Togekiss are closing on you, seeking to send you away from the meadow forever with a lesson you’ll never forget.

[initiate Shaymin + Togekiss NM Boss Fight]

You hold the ball in your hand, filled with emotion from having been able to capture such a legendary Pokemon as Shaymin. Its battered companion struggles off the ground, then takes a long, hard look at you before flying off into the tall grass. As you think about it, you realize that the meadow no longer has its master. You hope the place will be all right without it. But something turns your mind back toward the flower you encountered early on in your journey, the flower that seemed to emanate life much like Shaymin. A name comes into your head: Gracidea. You glance down at the ball that currently houses Shaymin. You have a feeling that everything will be fine.

You look around; the glow has dissipated. It’s getting dark, too. You figure you’ll camp here and return to civilization tomorrow.

Shaymin’s battered form lies before you, breathing somewhat erratically in its unconsciousness. Somehow, you don’t feel good about your victory, and not just because you failed to obtain the main prize the meadow held. At least you found out what was within the meadow, which, perhaps is prize enough. It’s late, but you doubt the residents of the meadow will bring out the welcome wagon after you’ve defeated their master, and quickly head back the way you came.

As you close in on the glow, the grass begins to grow both shorter and greener, although you’re unsure whether the grass is greener from more fertility or from the mysterious glow. At the same time, however, as you get right up on the glow, you feel like a malevolent force is close by, draining the energy right out of you, like it’s angry at you personally. Pressing forward, you break into the edge of the light, and suddenly find yourself in a well-lit clearing, with the greenest grass you’ve ever seen and beautiful flowers in every color growing. Your view of the beauty is interrupted, however, by a hostile growl from in front of you. You look up and see a Mega Venusaur emitting an angry growl at you, and you see that it’s flanked by a porcupine-like creature, covered in plant life. You realize this must be the legendary Shaymin, and that Shaymin is the source of the glow and the master of this meadow. But something seems wrong with the Shaymin; there’s a spot on its back paler than the rest, like something that’s supposed to be there isn’t. You suddenly recognize the shape: it’s the same as the flower you picked shortly after you entered the meadow. You pull it out to compare it, but as soon as you produce it, it begins to glow brightly, and Shaymin undergoes a transformation, into its Sky forme. You realize with sudden dread that you stole this flower from Shaymin, and you guess that Shaymin and its partner really want it back…

[initiate Shaymin-Sky + Mega-Venusaur HM Boss Fight]

You hold the ball in your hand, filled with emotion from been able to capture such a legendary Pokemon as Shaymin. But one emotion seems to overwhelm all others: guilt. You stole Shaymin’s flower, after all, then insisted on pressing deeper into the meadow despite so many signs that you weren’t welcome. Then you had the gall to finally deprive the meadow of the master that made it so beautiful. But… you do still have the flower right here. Perhaps the least you could do is reunite Shaymin with it. A name for it comes into your head: Gracidea. You wonder if perhaps you can start making up for what you’ve done here…

You look around; the glow has dissipated. It’s pretty dark. But abruptly, the battered Mega-Venusaur struggles to its feet and glowers at you, then roars into the night. It stands resolutely, as if it’s ready for more to defend its home. Despite the hour, you turn and flee back toward where you came from. You don’t want to spend one second here more than you have to.

Shaymin’s battered form lies before you, struggling to breathe. Somehow, you don’t feel good about your victory, and not just because you failed to obtain the main prize the meadow held. At least you still have the flower, you think to yourself. But as you bend down to pick it up, it immediately withers and crumbles to dust. The battered Mega-Venusaur climbs to its feet and roars at you, standing resolutely, ready for more to defend its home. Despite how dark it’s getting, you decide you don’t want to spend one second here more than you have to, and flee from the meadow back from whence you came.
