The Guardian

One of Silver's first memories is that of a shadowy figure of white and black, ever-present and ever-watchful over the boy's shoulder. Silver can't recall a time when he wasn't being observed by this mysterious silhouette, yet he never felt threatened by it. As soon as he was old enough to set out on his journey with Pokémon, Silver knew what he was searching for: this flash of white from his childhood. Silver has never known for sure whether Soul is the Pokémon that watched over him as a child, and Soul has always stayed silent when his trainer asks him about it. Nonetheless, and despite his steely demeanor, more than his first Pokémon, Soul is Silver's guardian and closest friend.

Gardevoir's eyes glow bright blue as she imagines a balloon floating towards the clouds. As if by magic, reality responds to her wishes: a blue aura surrounds Gengar as he helplessly floats skywards. Next, with all her mind she visualizes a bowling ball falling to the ground, its sheer weight pushing it through countless layers of dirt and stone. As she does so, Gengar's body slams straight down against the grass.

Now full of confidence, Gardevoir imagines herself donning a pair of boxing gloves. She closes her eyes and swings an arm at the air. Physically, she doesn't hit anything, but her mental strength alone is enough to make Gengar's face cave inwards from an invisible impact. At that point, Gengar justifiably decides that Psychic-Types are way too overpowered, pulls out a Sharpie marker, and scribbles out the "9" in Gardevoir's HP. Watching Gardevoir faint on the spot, he can't help but laugh.

The swordsman takes heed of the ominous figure in front of him. He readies a glistening pair of verdant blades. Then, he brings them both down in a series of brutal attacks. Over and over again, the Gallade slices away, only to be parried by the Absol's pitch-black claws. To his astonishment, each time Gallade advances, Absol already has a perfect counter-attack prepared.

Then, a bright idea occurs to the Gallade -- by holding his blades up at just the right angle, he can deflect a burst of moonlight towards his foe! Absol reels in pain as he shields his eyes! However, as effective as light may be against the darkness, it also makes the shadows grow longer... Absol swings a leg forward, and as he does the overgrown shadow it casts shoots forward like an arrow, silently cutting all the grass it covers into shreds. Gallade drops to its knee, clutching a dripping red gash on its leg that the shadow happened to graze. Not a moment after, Absol's other leg swings in a wide arc, its shadow slicing a distant tree trunk cleanly in two before flashing across Gallade's face. Three crimson rifts like claw marks burst forth from his flesh. Then Gallade sinks to the floor, defeated.
