Hey everyone, sorry for the delay with this project. I will be taking over for a bit. If anyone is interested in helping us host/co-host this or other of our forums projects, please shoot a message to the moderation team. With that being said...

Congratulations to Lectrys, UUTS, 1LDK and Dr Ya Yeet for winning last cycle with :Choice Band::Azumarill:, Belly Drum :Azumarill:, Body Press :Dondozo: and :Orthworm: respectively. Your sets have been added to the Hall Of Fame. We cant close the prehome era of this project without the next Victim of the Week... Offensive Kingambit!

:sv/Kingambit:
Kingambit @ Lum Berry / Black Glasses
Ability: Supreme Overlord
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Dark / Fire
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Kowtow Cleave
- Swords Dance / Low Kick
- Iron Head / Low Kick

One of the best and most threatening Pokemon of Generation 9, Kingambit has been a staple of the prehome meta thanks to its offensive profile, good bulk and set of resistances, amazing ability, and by being one of the best abusers of Tera. Lum Berry and Lum Berry lets it shrug off Will-O-Wisp attempts from Skeledirge, Dragapult, and Rotom-W, while Black Glasses and Tera Dark are other options to further boost its breaking power. Low Kick is another option in its arsenal that lets it hit other Dark-types, particularly Kingambit and Roaring Moon.

Submissions end on Friday May 26th at 23:59 EST

This dude shits on gambit HARD. Just hard switch in on the kowtow/sucker. Iron defense up, (synth if needed), and BP once you have enough iron defenses. This is a COUNTER btw.

Oh boy, I'm glad that this contest is back on the grind, especially since I finally won 1, it was a triple tie, but I guess beggars can't be choosers, anyway, let's talk about what concern us today

you get Tusk in, you start bulking up, and you counter most kingambit sets known to man, flying, dark and fire cannot withstand rock/righting coverage

+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Dark Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. +1 252 HP / 204+ Def Great Tusk: 155-183 (35.7 - 42.1%) -- 89.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 204+ Def Great Tusk Body Press vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Dark Kingambit: 356-422 (104.3 - 123.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Fire Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. +1 252 HP / 204+ Def Great Tusk: 116-137 (26.7 - 31.5%) -- 23.4% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 0 Atk Great Tusk Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fire Kingambit: 232-274 (68 - 80.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 72 Def / 184 Spe
Jolly Nature

Iron Hands is a solid hard check to Kingambit. Iron Hands's outrageous physical bulk in tandem with its Fighting-type make it one of the more durable Pokemon against Kingambit currently. If Kingambit is Tera Fire, Iron Hands is still able to overwhelm it thanks to Swords Dance making sure it can still 2HKO Kingambit after Terastalizing (in fact, if Hands decides to Tera Fighting, it can still possibly OHKO after a boost).

252+ Atk Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. 0 HP / 72 Def Iron Hands: 69-81 (15.3 - 18%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery

Reserving water tauros

Ty for taking over

Water tauros as a counter

:Tauros-Paldea-Aqua: @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Bulk Up
- Raging Bull
- Body Press
- Trailblaze

Ye this sits on gambit. Intimidate makes it easier to take on, it resists both of gambits stabs and can switch into it even if they sd and click an attack next turn. Tauros always 2hkos back with the stab moves if gambit teras or just ohkos with body press otherwise while not being 2hkod by gambit at +1 (+2 from sd and -1 from intimidate). Bulk up and trailblaze are just there so I can pretend that the bull can do something outside of checking gambit.

Quaquaval @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 144 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Spe
Tera Type: Water / Fighting / Poison
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Aqua Step
- Close Combat
- Roost / Taunt

Quaquaval is a check. Its typing gives it a resistance to both of Kingambit's STABs, allowing it to switch in and either attempt an OHKO with Close Combat, which OHKOs even if Kingambit has already Tera'd into Dark. If it has Tera Fire instead, Aqua Step is a guaranteed 2HKO post-Tera, or even an OHKO at +1. You can also use Bulk Up and Roost to set up alongside it, or Taunt to keep it from setting up.

Of course, if Kingambit is already at +2, things become... complicated. Kowtow Cleave + Sucker Punch is a guaranteed 2HKO with Supreme Overlord active, and if it's holding Black Glasses, it doesn't even need that. Combine that with Tera Dark, and Kowtow Cleave can become an OHKO on its own. There are ways to mitigate this, but it's definitely something to watch out for.

Dondozo @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Curse
- Liquidation
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Unfortunately, as much as I would have liked to use Specially Defensive Dondozo for the Curse variant in the post-Chi-Yu meta, Dondozo has trouble handling Tera Flying Acrobatics Booster Energy Roaring Moon without being fully physically defensive.

Assuming they reserve Kingambit for the true late game, this is how they'll typically use Kingambit against Dondozo:

252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 186-219 (36.9 - 43.4%) -- 99.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Kingambit Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 145-171 (28.7 - 33.9%) -- 98.8% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 124-147 (24.6 - 29.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Dondozo Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kingambit: 78-93 (22.8 - 27.2%) -- 49.2% chance to 4HKO
+1 0 Atk Dondozo Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kingambit: 118-139 (34.6 - 40.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

So Curse on Turn 1, then attack or Curse again, then Rest. You can't get 3HKOed, and you should eventually take Kingambit down.

If they Tera Fire, it's their loss.

If they Tera Dark, you now face calcs like these:

252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Dark Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 248-292 (49.2 - 57.9%) -- 57.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Dark Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 166-196 (32.9 - 38.8%) -- 8.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

You're safest off going Tera Fighting the turn after they Tera Dark, and then you face calcs like these:

252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Dark Kingambit Kowtow Cleave vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Fighting Dondozo: 83-98 (16.4 - 19.4%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Dark Kingambit Iron Head vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Fighting Dondozo: 97-115 (19.2 - 22.8%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

Continue your RestTalking!

I'll take the boring one, I suppose...
Ting-Lu @ Leftovers
Relaxed Nature
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
- Earthquake
- Whirlwind
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
Literally just the standard Ting-Lu, except with Defensive instead of Special Defensive investment, Iron Head goes from a 5HKO to a 7HKO after leftovers and 3HKO to a 5HKO with 5 allies Supreme Overlord. Earthquake does over half whether he Teras or not, and you can just setup one smogillion hazards while they Swords Dance if they stay in.
edit: this is a counter
edit 2: If it has low kick, you take 35-42% from it, Tera Poison, then the same situation as above just with Kowtow instead of Iron Head

Iron Valiant @ Choice Band
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Jolly Nature
Tera-Type: Water
- Close Combat
- Liquidation
- Knock Off
- Trick

Iron Valiant is faster than Kingambit, and it x4 resists Sucker Punch, making it seem like an obvious shoe-in as a revenge killer. However, one wrong prediction can stop Valiant from securing the KO it needs, and Gambit has the option to run Iron Head to KO as punishment. Hence Valiant being classified as a check.

Valiant won't have time to SD, so I figured I'd make a Banded set that follows a similar mold, except it replaces the titular move with Trick to potentially cripple defensive mons with. You'll have to be careful not to Terastallize against Tera-Dark Gambit, but make sure you do against Tera-Fire, cause otherwise it'll survive the Liquidation.

252 Atk Choice Band Iron Valiant Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fire Kingambit: 238-280 (69.7 - 82.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Tera Water Iron Valiant Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fire Kingambit: 356-420 (104.3 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The most important thing that you'll have to get right is Gambit's Tera-type. Tera-Dark can survive the Liquidation and Tera-Fire can survive the Close Combat, so getting that wrong can cost Valiant its life, especially if Gambit does indeed run Iron Head. While you can try and resist Iron Head with the Tera Water, that only leaves Valiant prime to be finish off by Sucker enough of its teammates had died

252 Atk Choice Band Iron Valiant Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fire Kingambit: 250-295 (73.3 - 86.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Tera Water Iron Valiant Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Dark Kingambit: 178-210 (52.1 - 61.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Kingambit Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Valiant: 320-380 (110.7 - 131.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Supreme Overlord 4 allies fainted Kingambit Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Water Iron Valiant: 112-132 (38.7 - 45.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Supreme Overlord 4 allies fainted Kingambit Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Water Iron Valiant: 196-232 (67.8 - 80.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Supreme Overlord 2 allies fainted Kingambit Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Water Iron Valiant: 96-114 (33.2 - 39.4%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 2 allies fainted Kingambit Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Water Iron Valiant: 204-240 (70.5 - 83%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
