Project SV OU - Pokemon Matchmaking (Week 4: Volcarona)

:sv/primarina:
Primarina @ Leftovers
Ability: Liquid Voice
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast/Draining Kiss
- Encore
- Psychic Noise
- Calm Mind
This primarina set allows volcarona to get the most setup opportunities as possible, while being offensively powerful to allow volc to cleanup lategame. The evs are put mostly into special attack in order for primarina to deal as much damage as possible, while also outspeeding non jolly gambit, with the rest into hp for extra bulk. The fairy stab can either be moonblast for more damage or draining kiss for more longevity. Calm mind allows primarina to snowball effectively.
The three main innovations are liquid voice psychic noise, encore and tera ghost. Liquid voice psychic noise is a good stab option that allows primarina to help wear down specially defensive mons such as blissey that may prevent a sweep from both volc and prim. Encore isn't an uncommon move on prim, but for this set it means any mons that use a status move that is slow might be locked into it, or for gambit it will be locked into sucker punch. This gives volcarona the ability to switch in and start quiver dancing. Finally, tera ghost makes primarina immune to dragonite e-speed, thus meaning that all priority moves are not very effective against the duo.

Ogerpon-Wellspring (F) @ Wellspring Mask
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power Whip
- Ivy Cudgel
- Knock Off
- U-turn

This mon has excellent synergy with Volc. Here I show a pivot set with knock over taunt but you can easily use an SD set and it will synergize well too. It creates a nice FWG with Volc's fire typing. Waterpon puts a ton of pressure on defensive mons, especially the special tanks that try to check Volc, namely :slowking_galar:, Unaware :clodsire:, and :primarina:. This mon is easily one of the most splashable wallbreakers in the meta rn due to its excellent type combo hitting almost every defensive mon for at least decent damage. Now, the reason I chose these moves on it is because Knock Off removes those annoying boots, allowing volc to have an easier time sweeping when the opponent's defensive mons take Spikes and Rocks damage. U-Turn is here due to the fact that much of the time Opponents tend to switch in Dragon or sometimes Grass types on Waterpon; If predicting this, you use U-Turn, Volc can come in for free to setup threatening both types with this set.
