Hello, friends! With everyone’s 4th favorite NU tier (right after SM, ORAS, and SS without Rotom-Mow) drawing to an end, the NU staff thought it would be nice to get things started already with our very own SV NU speculation thread before we have it proper on February 1st. Feel free to share what Pokémon you think might drop from RU or that you’d like to see dropping (let’s keep it realistic though folks!), how you think the meta will shape up to be, and the impact Terastallization is projected to have in our tier. Are we gonna have a HO-centric tier led by screen setters like Abomasnow and Morgrem, or even hazard leads such as Glimmet? A more defensive focused meta with one of Blissey or Chansey potentially dropping? Or will bulky offense remain the predominant archetype?

To help out, you can check the SV RU stage 1 / alpha thread to see what Pokémon are receiving more attention or staying away from the spotlights, as well as watching how their No Johns Kickoff Tournament goes for a clearer idea on their meta so far. As always, if you’re unsure which Pokémon are or are not currently RU, you can either check on Pokémon Showdown!, or the usage stats from January, which will also be available below:

Last but not least, we thought of a fun little game called SV NU Crystal Ball! Starting on the 15th, you can make your very own list of Pokémon you think will drop next month and score points based on how many you got right. The winner will receive a custom role in our official Discord server. More information on this will be available later. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Posting about what I'd like to call the "Guts Normal-types":

Zangoose @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Toxic Boost
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Facade
- Quick Attack
- Close Combat
- Night Slash / Swords Dance

Zangoose hits hard AND is quite fast too. Facade, especially when boosted by Tera Normal, does disgusting amounts of damage on most things. Last slot depends on if you want greater power or the ability to hit Ghost-types.

Squawkabilly @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Facade
- Brave Bird
- U-turn

Here's a fun one I feel like. It reminds me a lot of Guts Swellow in older gen lower tiers. Its main advantage over Zangoose is the Flying-type STAB in Brave Bird (also being able to pivot in on Ground-types like Sandaconda is quite nice) and access to U-turn. You also last longer due to not requiring the Toxic Orb.

Ursaring @ Flame Orb / Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts / Quick Feet
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Facade
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Protect

Ursaring hits the hardest but is also the slowest by far. It has three pretty reliable moves to click on, giving it neutral coverage against basically anything. Could work well on Trick Room builds with 0 speed investment. Quick Feet Ursaring with Toxic Orb is a set that sacrifices longevity and a bit of power with far greater Speed.

These aren't the only Normal-types of note though. Its likely we'll get Farigiraf, Indeedee-Female, and Pyroar, who will be strong in their own ways. People are saying Sawsbuck and Dudunsparce could happen too, but I'm not 100% sure on those two. (Yes I didn't mention Chansey but seriously screw that stupid egg I stg)

Removal is going to be incredibly dire lmao. I also wouldnt be surprised if we have a decent amount of bulky tera-using setup sweepers. Stuff like florges/sylveon/vaporeon is fairly threatening in ru and I imagine we will probably get atleast one of those if not all 3, as well as other pokemon that do similar things--click cm 10 times then tera to steel type and win.
Qd oricorio also looks sorta like a menace tbh. I've played w it in ru and we are for sure getting at least a few oricorios. Oricorio is super fire cuz its move revelation dance changes based on your primary type, so if you tera it changes to your tera type. Built in tera blast can b pretty nifty and this mon can be scary w a speed/spa/spd boosting move in qd. Another thing that makes it sorta annoying is its mirror matchups. Facing an oricorio when you have one is so incredibly wack. Like seriously so fucking wack this sucks and may honestly make it ban worthy if it becomes a prominant pokemon. Basically its ability dancer copies dancing moves. So if you click qd on your opponents switch to oricorio, they qd as well. If you click revelation dance, so do they. This means that if you're facing an opposing oricorio, often times your opponent can just switch into theirs if you click the funny qd move and if you click the funny revelation dancing move then you get ouchied. This mirror matchup can force games into speed ties regardless of the status of the other 5 pokemon on each players team pretty much. I'm probably overstating this a little bit but it's a wacky mu and something to potentially look at when nu releases

Going to use this as an opportunity to flex that I'm top 10 in RU with two different accounts to say that I've played the tier a lot so far and have a pretty decent grasp of what's used and what probably won't be.

Going to bold what I can say with some confidence will NOT be staying RU, and explain why I think this, then go onto unlisted Pokemon that I also think will be quite good in NU.

:golduck: This thing only has high usage for Drizzle teams in UU and OU, even with Nasty Plot, manual Rain is not good or consistent enough to be worth using in RU, and Golduck will probably fall past NU too.
:bombirdier: Definitely a product of new-toy syndrome but Bombirdier definitely brings a lot of great tools to the table. Knock Off, U-Turn, Stealth Rock, Roost; this Pokemon has a lot of top tier moves in its arsenal. Its issue is its terrible stats, and Knock Off is surprisingly not too rare in RU making its access to it not as valuable as you'd think.
:frosmoth: Maybe I'm wrong on this one because Tera makes setup sweepers very broken but Frosmoth's main issue is its poor speed even after a Quiver Dance. I could see a screens team making use of this but there's simply better options.
:cryogonal: Another Ice-type that could maybe see usage by using Tera to shed its typing, but there's again, a surprising number of solid hazard removal options making Cryogonal's niche hardly worth its downsides. This isn't to say Cryogonal is bad in RU, it's been quite good in my experience, but I seriously doubt it would get enough usage to stay.
:pincurchin: Electric Terrain is simply not valuable currently in this tier. There's no Quark Drive users, Rising Voltage was cut from the game, no Alolan Raichu.
:copperajah: Copperajah lost its best two coverage moves in Power Whip and Heat Crash, and with Bronzong and Perserrker in the tier, both of which have Stealth Rock, Copperajah just seems like a huge case of being severely outclassed.
:dachsbun: A Fire immunity is just not that valuable in this tier, when the premier Fire-types are Rotom-Heat and Salazzle which beat it anyway. It's raw defensive utility is still quite good as a sturdy Fight resistance with Wish and Roar, but I think it will have trouble finding a place on teams in what seems like a pretty offensive metagame. I'll go into more detail about Dachsbun in a bit because I think it would be quite amazing in NU.
:froslass: There's an arms race for dedicated leads and Froslass simply struggles to make an impact against most of them, although its still quite good at its role. Froslass loses to other leads like Glimmet, Lycaroc (both forms), and struggles against Espeon even if its Shadow Ball.
:toxicroak: Another example of just being thoroughly outclassed. Although Toxicroak gets Close Combat now, the tier is littered with faster and/or stronger Fighting-types like Flamigo, Heracross, Medicham, and Tauros.
:eelektross: Eelektross by design should be used as a pivot, with two moves to do so and no weaknessess. Despite having no weaknesses, its stats are definitely offensively oriented, while also being slow, making it not capable of really fulfilling either niche in a tier where other Pokemon simply have better stat distributions and can flesh out either of these roles much better.
:qwilfish: Qwilfish is a defensive Spikes user in an offensive metagame. Intimidate means less and less as it gets nerfed each generation. it has an amazing defensive profile and matches up into a lot of good RU Pokemon but I don't think it fill find itself being good on common structures.
:scovillain: Is a unique Chlorophyll sweeper that has Fire coverage without needing to Tera. manual weather teams are usually pretty terrible the higher the tiers go, especially since Abomasnow is quite common.

These Pokemon are simply outclassed by something else but could definitely be great in NU.

Outclassed as Wallbreakers / Sweepers:
:zangoose: :squawkabilly: :ursaring: :zoroark: :clawitzer: :falinks: :flapple: :houndoom: :raichu: :dugtrio: :bruxish: :cacturne: :scyther: :passimian: :vivillon: :basculin: :lilligant:

Outclassed as Walls / Support:
:chansey: :muk: :rabsca: :skuntank: :spidops: :spiritomb: :appletun: :flareon: :camerupt: :oinkologne: :sandaconda: :dunsparce: :coalossal:

Most of these Pokemon are quite doomed to always be bad; Golduck, Sawsbuck, Camerupt, etc.. PU staples for every modern generation. There are some very notable Pokemon that have a similar power level to previous NU's or are simply right on the cusp of being decent in RU, but aren't for one reason or another.

:pyroar: :houndoom: Quite similar in the sense that they're fast special wallbreakers with great coverage accentuated by possible Tera-Grass. Previous NU staples that will be greatly appreciated given SS's lack of offensive Fire-types.
:scovillain: Will be a brutal Sun sweeper that is even powerful outside of Sun, could see this being banned due to its raw power and STAB fire moves that sets it apart from traditional Chlorophyll sweepers. Scovillain can also used mixed sets very effectively to pack coverage for Fire-types with Stomping Tantrum or Zen Headbutt for Poison-types
:crocalor: Unaware, surprisingly decent stats, and support moves like Encore, Slack Off, and Will-O-Wisp with Eviolite make Crocalor a surprising candidate for a viable stall mon. It even sees usage in RU and with limited Knock Off I could see it at least being viable in NU if not NU by usage.
:flareon: Flareon's high SDef and Wish will make it a great wall for all theFire-types listed above, as it usually always is in Alpha metas. Losing Heal Bell sucks for it but its base stats are simply enough to give it a niche.
:coalossal: Spikes and Rapid Spin will make this thing very high-demand, and Tera can patch up its mediocre typing in a pinch. It has great defensive stats and isn't entire passive so I could see this being a great tier staple if it even drops from RU.

:toxicroak: Toxicroak is likely going to be broken, especially with Close Combat now. Ground-types are in high demand in higher tiers and Toxicroak will likely run Poison Touch now as the demand to pivot into Water-type attacks is much lower since the removal of Scald.
:medicham: Medicham also got Close Combat and could be broken for similar reasons, although it's quite dependent on its Fighting STAB to do damage.
:crabominable: Amazing power and decent bulk, its hard to say where this thing will end up in terms of viability but I have high hopes for it once the tier develops and bulky playstyles become more commonplace as they always do.

:coalossal: Already explained Coal but its definitely going to be a hazard overlord.
:cryogonal: Rapid Spin and Recovery with Levitate. Tera can shed its terrible typing.
:komala: Status immunity and Wish go a long way for Komala, I think it's amazing in RU but nobody else seems to think so. Will be an amazing special tank with Rapid Spin in NU.
:quaxwell: :toedscool: These two with Eviolite are surprisingly bulky and have a ton of great support options to stay around longer and not just be Rapid Spin bots. Quaxwell has Roost and Encore, Toadscool has Spore and Knock Off.
:lurantis: Lost Superpower for some reason, but Contrary Leaf Storm and Synthesis are still great especially with Tera.
:braviary: Braviary looks like it will stat-check a lot of the tier, SubBU sets seems like they're gonna be the standard but Defog options are very limited so people may get creative and use Defog on this.
:oricorio: idk which type will drop probably psychic maybe fire but these guys are gonna be broken and banned so idc.

:haunter: Powerful special breaker that got Nasty Plot and Focus Blast this gen, can also take advantage of Chansey with Sub.
:gabite: Gets Swords Dance and Spikes this gen, pretty bulky with Eviolite, should be a solid breaker to make progress in games.
:chansey: Outclassed by Blissey, we're definitely getting Chansey and it may be too fat for the tier but tera really allows for specific Pokemon to take advantage of its passivity.
:floragato: :raboot: Protean / Libero with solid offensive stats and coverage. Floragato will be a cool Scarfer with no SR weakness and U-Turn similar to Frogadier in SM.

:dragalge: If we even get to keep this, its extremely powerful although it did lose Flip Turn.
:mabosstiff: Stakeout AND good stats? If we even get this it is going to be insanely stupid if it doesn't get banned right away.
:mismagius: Missy seems to always make its home in NU now, with Nasty Plot and 3 immunities and good coverage, its definitely going to have a great place in the tier.
:perrserker: Getting Stealth Rock and keeping its good coverage from SS, this is probably going to take Copperajah's role in the tier.

Sorry if this post was all over the place I had no clue how I wanted to format this :sob:

I would like to make a case and point for a very particular Ice Type that I believe is currently being slept on. Let me introduce our good friend, Cryogonal.

Now, why do I believe that Cryogonal is going to be a very particularly good Tera pokemon? Well, to simply put it, it's got a phenomenal speed even for RU right now. With Ice Beam, Freeze Dry, and Water Tera, this pokemon can be an attempted replica of what we saw with Iron Bundle in OU. Not to mention, we also see it with Rapid Spin. Now, do I claim that this is gonna be the meta defining pokemon? Absolutely not, we do still have a Chansey to deal with, and possibly the bulky Bellibolt, however, I do believe that it will find its place as a great defining pokemon for NU, if Terrastalization is not banned by February.

I'm going to talk about some other likely drops to this tier that could be of interest.

Lilligant @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Tera Type: Fire / Rock
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Tera Blast

Lilligant had a pretty dire Gen 8 performance, losing access to Hidden Power and Z-Moves left it struggling against Grass resists. However, at least for now, Terastilazation can solve this issue. Tera Blast is stronger than Hidden Power, for one. And you can shrug off potential weaknesses making set-up easier. Unfortunately for Lilligant, its heavily reliant on Tera, otherwise its capacity to beat Grass resists is low. Regardless, I can see the flower child being on the radar to some degree. Better than last gen at least.

Vivillon-Fancy @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Compound Eyes
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Substitute

On the topic of Quiver Dancers though, this thing is obscene. The idea of nearly fully accurate Hurricanes boosted by Tera Flying is nauseating but fun to think about.

Golduck @ Life Orb
Ability: Cloud Nine
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot / Focus Blast / Substitute

Here's probably a gimmick set but IMO Nasty Plot makes Golduck much more threatening. Water resists aren't the most common and they all get smacked by Ice Beam anyway. If it had Agility or something this would be a lot better IMO.

Magneton @ Choice Specs / Choice Scarf / Eviolite
Ability: Analytic
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Tera Blast / Steel Beam

Magneton's still a fake Steel if there is any, but what it can accomplish is being a good breaker that can patch up its coverage issues with Tera Blast. Magnet Pull's not worth it on Mag cause Perrserker and Copperajah beat you anyway. If Webs become a thing this could work good on those teams too. If you go with Steel Beam, Tera Flying is also an option patching up your Ground and Fighting-type weaknesses.

Skuntank @ Black Sludge
Ability: Aftermath
Tera Type: I legitimately don't know lol
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA (Def if Crunch) / 252 Spe
Naive/Jolly Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Gunk Shot
- Sucker Punch
- Fire Blast / Crunch

Skunk lost Defog but it gained Toxic Spikes and Gunk Shot in return. Guess it evens out. NP is also an option like last gen ZU.

Trailblaze

Scarlet and Violet introduced a new Flame Charge clone in Trailblaze.Unlike his fire cousin, trailblaze get decent distribution outside of grass-types which help a bunch of setup sweepers held back by their low/mid speed.
Some potentials users :
:vaporeon: :sylveon: :glaceon: Calm Mind eevolutions are enough bulky to benefit speed boost and live neutral hits from opposing scarfers, only outspeeded by jolteon. They can custom Tera to handle specific threats as well
:medicham: :passimian: :tauros-paldea: Medicham innate brute force let him boost on forced switchs.Passimian and Tauros got decent speed tier and bulk to do it.
:cacturne: Remember Flame Charge Incineroar in USUM ? Cacturne gain power trip this gen and may use the same strat on screen teams

:chansey: Chansey :chansey:

While it seem impressive on first glance,Chansey lost 2 moves who made it obviously too much for NU last gen : Teleport to gain momentum after walling any special attacker and Toxic to cripple offensive answers. Now Chansey is really passive and can't use her special attack to hit ghosts types like blissey.Fighting-types get coverage for potential Tera-Fairy/Ghost and ghost-types may set substitute and sit for days.Still a good wall but much more exploitable rn and definitely worth keeping in this future meta.

The former stuff

:sandaconda: He is back as an NU alpha staple,Shed skin is precious when there's isn't heal bell around.Glare
:arcanine: Choice band set get buffed with Tera-Normal supressing rock weakness and giving him strong valuable priority
:toxicroak: Seem broken on paper but there's Tera-ghost to mitigate his stabs and some ghosts + more intimidate users to contain it
:copperajah: AV sets lost a good way of hitting waters in power whip. However, they take a lot from coverage bar vaporeon and whiscash. Will be good if he drop
:perrserker: The only steel-type with rocks alongside Copperajah.U-turn give it a niche over Copperajah
:lurantis: Tera is mandatory to get coverage but also one of the few defoggers with recovery .Worth considering
:drifblim: Better defogger than lurantis i guess . Flare Boost sets
:rotom-mow: Not him.....Great Scarfer,np sets get extra coverage with Tera.May be less splashable without defog but still get this annoying unwallable volt switch forcing 50/50
:hariyama: Another AV titan.Drain punch gives it more longevity. Can absorb twaves as well
:dragalge: This isn't staying after alpha . Focus blast melts the few steels immune to Acid spray
:goodra: May be overwhelming once meta stabilize.CB sets are easier to justify rn with reliable STAB in Dragon Claw
:indeedee-f: No more expanding force bs,will be good even without mystical fire.Copper doesn't like take multiple psyshocks
:haunter: Haunter finally get nasty plot and focus blast. With Chansey around ,he might get some setup opportunities

New Toys

:bellibolt: Can run Muddy Water or Soak to bypass immunities.Great ability giving it offensive presence without any investissement.Wouldn't be surprised if this stay NU
:cetitan: Hail flashbacks.Hazard weakness prevent it to be insanly stupid.Still a nightmare for offensive teams.
:whiscash: One of the few ground types.Unlike Sandaconda,he get spikes which is valuable without much hazard removal. Can threaten the few defoggers with ice beam
:dachsbun: Fire immunity losing to every fire type available. Not convinced about it
:veluza: :farigiraf: Unkillable stuff under screens most notably farigiraf being immune to priorities. Can setup on Sableye and ignore sucker punch
:bombirdier: Good offensive utility with knock off+rocks+parting shot.Being slightly faster than 80's let it revenge kill non-scarf fighting-types like medicham and passimian
:honchkrow: Lost Superpower and U-turn,why run it over bombirdier tho
:scovillain: Only Goodra can wall both leech seed + grass/fire stabs . Scovilain will struggle on offensive meta filled with screens and hazard stack but he is gonna shine on more defensive meta

:cacturne: I used Lead Cacnea in LC, and it works really good. Surprised nobody's talking about this.

:copperajah: Im honestly expecting RU to keep this thing, as one of the few things that walls cloyster. I've been running a CB set up there that works amazingly.

Found a CB set for this, it just deletes RU. Zero chance we get it

:bellibolt: This thing is defo staying RU. Its like a physical chansey, and its stupid good at walling things too. Charge Beam + Soak + Parabolic Charge walls everything in sight.

:dudunsparce: :boomburst:

:rotom-mow: At least we'll only have it for a month. Rotom-H is defo rising to UU after next shift BC Wash got took to OU.

Whichever Quiver Dance Pokemon NU ends up getting is probably going to be extremely broken.
1673366241732.png

These were all balanced by either a poor typing, poor coverage, or both, and Terastalization completely fixes both of these issues. RU will likely keep some Oricorio forms and Venomoth, but none of these seem like they're going to have any real checks when factoring Tera given what seems like will drop to NU.

Lycanroc-Midday checks Frosmoth solely by having Accelerock
252 Atk Life Orb Lycanroc Accelerock vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Frosmoth: 473-562 (168.3 - 200%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(PU All-out Attacker vs PU Quiver Dance) (Gen 8 but no changes)

Lilligant is quite reliant on having sun up to sweep, but its likely going to be checked by Squawkabilly.

Masquerain isnt a quiver dance mon, because i've seen it run Webs sets more often.

Oricorio and Vivillon fall into the same vein as Frosmoth, being murdered by Lycanroc

Pau and Sensu form Oricorio die to Mabostiff

Pompom form Oricorio is the one I have the least confidence in, however it probably has a check somewhere

On the contrary, I think they have checks

I agree with Tog, most Quiver Dancers will be phenomenal/centralizing and will cause Chansey usage to skyrocket.

A flaw with what you had to say is Lycanroc checking all of them. Sure, it does, but Tera is a thing, they can Tera Ground or Steel and be resistant to Lycanroc's STABs. You also mentioned Masquerain being a Webs setter and not a QD sweeper, news flash, a Pokemon can have 2 viable sets.
---

I kind of fear the Fighting-types we get. Passimian, Medicham, Paldean Tauros, Toxicroak, and Crabominable will hit hard in the tier as we won't be getting many reliable physical walls. Even Falinks will be hard to stop after setting up. Due to this, I think Chansey + Fairy + Poison will be the go-to defensive core.

Basculin and Dragalge will also be powerhouses. Adaptability + Tera has a chance to wipe most ladder teams.

Posted this in the Discord already, but these are what I think we will likely get.

So despite the entire point of my post talking about how these Pokemon can change their typing on a dime and give themselves coverage for their "checks" you decided to tell me grass is green and the sky is blue anyway? I don't really see the point of your response since you failed to calc Accelerock vs a Ground-type Frosmoth, a set seen in RU to great success to hit Steel-types and resist Rock all at the same time. Lilligant does not need Sun to sweep, as Quiver Dance actually boosts the users Speed, and again Tera can provide it the coverage needed to hit Flying-types, especially Squawkabilly who has terrible bulk and will most certainly only use offensive sets anyway. As for Masquerain, the only reason its relegated to Sticky Webs exclusively is because of its competitors, but if its the only QD mon to be in NU that wouldn't be an issue. Masquerain is also notably stronger and has much better coverage than most Quiver Dance Pokemon. Oricorio may die to a Choice Scarf Mabosstiff IF they don't change their typing, but behind screens or against non-Scarf, they literally OHKO it with +1 Hurricane. Obviously I'm not saying these Pokemon are UNCHECKABLE but they're going to be huge strains on teambuilding because of Tera

I already mentioned Pokemon like Gabite getting Swords Dance, but quite a few Pokemon got Swords Dance this generation that could make great use of it.

:banette: Banette is a curiously strong Pokemon that always lacked a means to boost its attack and had a mostly utility-oriented movepool. Getting Swords Dance and a powerful STAB Shadow Sneak and access to Knock Off should make Banette quite a fearsome wallbreaker, although it did lose Poltergeist.
Banette @ Spell Tag
Ability: Insomnia
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Knock Off
- Shadow Claw
- Swords Dance

:dugtrio: Dugtrio's great speed and STAB Earthquake could also make it a great breaker or sweeper. It also has access to Sucker Punch and can even Terastalize to make it STAB.
Dugtrio @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Force
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Sucker Punch
- Rock Blast
- Swords Dance

:Seviper: Seviper has always had Swords Dance, but now with Trailblaze it can actually effectively sweep without relying on Sucker Punch, although it could Tera to make it STAB.
Seviper @ Black Sludge
Ability: Shed Skin
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance / Coil
- Trailblaze

:swalot: Swalot suffered a similar fate to Banette with a movepool that doesn't quite match what the rest of its qualities would be best suited for. It's deep movepool and its new access to Swords Dance can now make it a pretty solid bulky sweeper.
Swalot @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Poison Jab / Gunk Shot
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake / Seed Bomb
- Ice Punch / Fire Punch / Thunder Punch

:raboot: Although Libero was nerfed, Raboot can still become a Normal-type with Swords Dance and now spam STAB Double Edge, or just Tera to a different type. It could also just use Blaze if it wanted to keep its Fire STAB, but Raboot will probably rely on its coverage anyway.
Raboot @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Libero
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Flare Blitz
- High Jump Kick / Gunk Shot / Zen Headbutt
- Swords Dance

Already had SD or already talked about them but still worth mentioning.
:scyther: Scyther always has Swords Dance but it gained Close Combat, which will help it break through possible walls like Copperajah and Coalossal.
:tinkatuff: Great typing and Knock Off with Eviolite, could be good hard to say.
:gabite: Already talked about this but it will be a great offensive hazard setter.
:ursaring: Gets an Eviolite boost? Probably gonna be broken, especially Guts RestTalk sets
:Zangoose: Gonna be too strong especially with Tera.

I have a feeling manual sun is going to be amazing in NU, especially if we get Scovillain.

252 SpA Tera Fairy Scovillain Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Rotom-Mow in Sun: 366-432 (151.8 - 179.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Tera Fairy was for Haxorus, Im using this in RU)

252+ SpA Life Orb Tera Fire Scovillain Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ursaring in Sun: 471-554 (122.6 - 144.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Life Orb Tera Fighting Scovillain Tera Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 393-463 (55.8 - 65.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Not to mention, it perfectly can abuse Tera with its great stats. Wanna beat Chansey 1v1? Tera Fighting physical. Wanna outspeed a +2 Max Speed Cloyster? The world is your oyster, my friend. USE SCOVILLAIN>

Hello, NeverUsed community! We’ve had a lot of great posts this past week, and it’s awesome to see how invested and excited everyone is for a new generation of our beloved tier. I’m also just as excited as you all are, specially since we seem to be off to a great start activity wise! With that said, let’s move on to our main event: the SV NU Crystal Ball!

The way it works is really simple: based on the January usage stats, anyone who wishes to participate just needs to make a list of what Pokémon you believe will drop to NU on February 1st, and whoever scores the most points (with a point being awarded to each correct guess) will win a custom role on our official Discord server! Simple enough, isn’t it? To keep things easier and cleaner on this thread, we’re gonna have a couple rules set in place:
  • All Pokémon names must be written correctly (votes aren’t case sensitive, though). I suggest just copy-pasting the list available at the end of this post and removing the Pokémon you think won't drop;
  • You must use the Hide command and add your list there, i.e. [.hide]Your list[/hide] (without the initial . on the first one), to avoid polluting the thread since discussion will still be encouraged here;
  • For Pokémon with multiple forms with purely cosmetic changes, only add the base form (like Vivillon instead of Vivillon-Fancy for example, even if it’s Unreleased). However, in case of multiple forms that incur in gameplay changes, such as Oinkologne and Oinkologne-F, each form will count as a separate entry;
  • To prevent needing to add all the NFEs, of which many will drop without a shadow of doubt, the list will only include those that have at least a minimal shot at staying in RU (thanks Togkey). Anything outside the list will not count;
  • In case of a tie, the following totally non-arbitrary criteria will be used to determine the winner: Number of correct NFE guesses > Number of correct Oricorio forms guesses > Number of correct Rotom forms guesses > Number of correct Lycanroc forms guesses > A Bo5 Rock-Paper-Scissors on PS!;
  • You CAN edit your posts, as long as it's done before the deadline. Any list edited after that will be disqualified;
  • The deadline of this event will be on January 31st, 10pm GMT -5.
That’s all for now! However, don’t let this event discourage anyone from still posting their thoughts about SV NU alpha! You can go in details about your list, talk about your potentially controversial picks, or comment about another user’s list too! Let’s keep up the good work here, and good luck everyone!

Yes I excluded Pokemon like Zoroark and added Rotom-Heat, but my experiences on ladder show the former to be far more common than the latter.

Sandaconda @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Shed Skin
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe
Impish Nature
- Rest
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Glare

This set is absolutely evil.

Rest + Shed Skin is goog

Stealth Rock does Stealth Rock things, no explanation here.

Earthquake is cool, only attacking move it needs.

and GLARE. oh my god, glare. This thing is so good, paralysis spore. It can easily spread it throughout an entire team with its longetivity with Shed Skin Rest.

use sandaconda
