Welcome to the SS UU Sets Viability Rankings. In this thread, the goal is to rank every Pokemon's sets into whichever tier of the viability ranking they individually fall under. You're encouraged to post your thoughts and opinions on the various set rankings for each Pokemon. Posts in this thread will be taken into account when deciding rank changes. Please do note that no set can be ranked any higher than the Pokemon's current position on the Viability Rankings.

This will also be used to help update our actual Viability Rankings - it can often be difficult for us to gauge a Pokemon such as Keldeo's viability when there is a large discrepancy between its sets and how they function / how viable they are, so this resource is ideally going to help significantly with that.

Choice scarf -> B / B-


Choice scarf nihilego is a nice late game cleaner that can come in and sweep through offensive teams and even +1 pokemon like dragon dance salamence, gyarados, and even scarf diggersby, krookodile, and buzzwole. It has a big suprise factor since its main 2 sets meteor beam and utility are more viable and can catch the opponent off guard on a pokemon like lycanroc-d, thundurus, and mienshao. It does have oppurtunity cost of forgoing passive recovery with black sludge or the ability to switch up moves with the meteor beam set which leave it to be prediction reliant a lot of the time against bulky teams.

Defensive Stealth rocks -> B-

Defensive stealth rocks can provide a great pivot to pokemon such as lycanroc-d lacking psychic fangs, nihilego, rotom-heat, slowbro-g. Having recovery helps it to pressure stealth rockers and being able to use its defenses to pressure the opponent. Also has a better matchup vs bulky teams where it can get chipped by weak moves such as u-turn, stealth rocks, and weak resist moves such as power gem from nihilego allows it to keep up pressure more often in a game.

Defensive w/ Syntheses -> B+

This is seen a lot on bulky teams and stall to allow to keep up pressure more often which allows it to not have to pivot out against pokemon like zarude, krookodile, mienshao, and more. The opportunity cost without foul play is that it cannot check pokemon like SD scizor, aegislash, and jirachi while also deterring physical attackers from setting up in its face while being its best way to pressure steels.

Swift Swim Stealth Rocks -> C+

It has a niche on rain as a stealth rocker and helps absorb volt switches from rotom-wash and hits it very hard with hydro pump or sludge wave. I think C+ is appropriate to be on par with politoad

I'll take the infraction, just gotta say this is a ridiculously useful thread, I wish we had one earlier.

EDIT: Quick question, Mew is still S tier, even if you take the Cosmic set, but that set is the most situational and team dependant of them all? Or is that set ranked lower than say, Aeigislash Automotize?

No infraction, thank you for enjoying it!!

Basically how the lower ranked sets work is: if that was the -only- viable set Mew was capable of running, Mew would be a C+ Pokemon on the full Viability Rankings. It's in S because of its Spikes set, but Cosmic Power is still viable - it's just worse, and this ranking reflects that. So in a vacuum, Cosmic Power Mew is a worse set than Autotomize Aegislash because it performs on average like a C+ Pokemon, while Autotomize Aegislash performs like a B+ Pokemon. Hope that helps out and feel free to lmk if it's not clear enough!

Calm Mind -> C+/C
This set looks actually p heat given that Sylveon can afford SubCM + Fire-Fairy coverage on one unlike Prim, which is good because then you can beat stuff such as Tangrowth and Amoonguss more reliably, which can be pretty nice, given that Pixilate Hyper Voice can also bypass subs which is a thing and some stuff such as Heal Bell CM or Wish CM can come out as well, CM Sylv doesn't look that bad and it could be considered imo tbf it shouldn't have dropped to C+ bc this set is kinda dope but that's another history kek.

Roost + Three Attacks -> B+

DwB / Knock Off + U-Turn + Bullet Punch is hella amazing given that most of it's checks can be beaten with this set, U-Turn + Knock Off + Bullet Punch is a really nasty combo and if you want, you can drop out Knock Off for DwB for beat Buzzwole, tho you miss SD so only nominating it to B+.

I also agree with the Hydreigon's noms.

av reun: b -> b+/a- maybe?
cm reun b -> c+

av reun has emerged as a super relevant special wall that avoids being too passive, checking a very large portion of the tier while being able to cripple switch-ins like scizor with knock off & setting up future sight to enable teammates that check scizor to turn the tables on it. it's a very relevant and good mon!

cm reun however is super bad!! -- totally shut down by top3 mon scizor, the rapidly rising zarude, and most steel/dark types in the tier while doing basically nothing until late game. even teams without a dark or with a steel that it beats (one one i can think of is cobalion) can offensively pressure it very hard. it's outclassed as a wincon by CM Gbro and Primarina, mons which have a harder to wall dual STAB combo (+ crucial Flamethrower coverage, in Gbro's case) and provide defensive utility to teams on a way more consistent basis

Switcheroo Guts -> C+

While this set sacrifices longitivity for more breaking power and the ability to cripple pokemon like aegislash, cobalion, buzzwole, and more. Without rest talk its stall matchup is worse. This set makes punishing it with pokemon harder but easier to wear down since your buzzwole could receive a flame orb and be severally crippled for the rest of the game. Switcheroo is sometimes inconsistent as it can take a black sludge or something like choice specs away which it would not want.
