Project SS UU Lure That Threat! Week 25: Slowking (Submissions)

Voting is up! Congrats to HydreigonTheChild for winning the week with their submission, it will be added to the Hall of Fame. Now that drops have occurred, it’s time to start this project up again with a new threat!

Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic

This week we have Excadrill! The drill has ended its long time OU dominance and has already made waves here. It’s utility set is great at checking threats like aegislash, nihilego, and the rotoms. How will you lure this threat? Submissions are due October 9 at 11:59 PM PST

Foul Play Nihi Nihi Eggo
:ss/nihilego:
Nihilego @ Black Sludge
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Knock Off
- Foul Play
- Power Gem
- Sludge Wave

The driller feels very safe switching into our jellyfish friend, even into standard rocks as a Knock Off wont bother drill as much in shorter games and this can be solved with Wish support, but with Foul Play + Knock Off you can beat the mole in only 2 standoffs, Knock it the first time it comes in, switch to something safe and next time a double Foul Play will surely hurt. (also no rapid spin??? wtf monky)

CALCS
0- Atk Nihilego Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 57-68 (15.7 - 18.8%) -- possible 6HKO
4 Atk Nihilego Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 135-159 (37.3 - 44%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

15.7 + 37.3 + 37.3 = 90.3% (just a little chip or a good roll)

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Spikes
- Sleep Powder

Normally excadrill can switch into standard roserade and threaten it with iron head, rapid spinning away its hazards, and absorb its giga drains. WIth LO, max sp. attack, and leaf storm it can ohko after slight chip like a spike.

0 SpA Roserade Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Excadrill: 102-120 (28.2 - 33.2%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after 1 layer of Spikes and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Roserade Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Excadrill: 277-328 (76.7 - 90.8%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after 1 layer of Spikes

Wish Upon a Fiery Star
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Fire Punch
- Healing Wish

Excadrill has no problem switching in on Jirachi sets, as even uninvested variants can be 5HKO’ed by offensive Jirachi's Iron Head and remain unphased by any of its common moves, besides a surprise Fire Punch. Fire Punch is Jirachi’s rare option to 2HKO frail Steel-type Pokémon like Excadrill and potentially leave it with a crippling burn (20% chance). Fire Punch is an effective option for Defensive Jirachi as well, as it will always outspeed Excadrill with over 160 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature.

252 Atk Jirachi Fire Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 206-244 (57 - 67.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

:ss/Regieleki:
Regieleki @ Choice Band
Jolly Nature
Ability: Transistor
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Wild Charge
- Extreme Speed
- Explosion
- Assurance

Welp, I’ve accidentally left this project going on a lot longer than I thought without updating it. I promise to put voting up on the normal deadline this weekend and get the project back on track. Anyway, after some regieleki discussion in VR yesterday I learned that CB assurance can 2HKO excadrill, the omnipresent counter to more common sets. It takes about 70% switching in if rocks are up and dies the next turn.
252 Atk Choice Band Regieleki Assurance vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 124-146 (34.3 - 40.4%) -- 80.2% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
(takes about 70% doubled and then 34 to get the kill)

Registeel @ Leftovers
Calm Nature
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

You easily survive Excadrill’s moves after an Iron Defense and maul it back with Body Press. You could probably run more Defense EVs or a move over Sleep Talk if you want.

Electivire@Expert Belt
Ability: Motor Drive
252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
-Wild Charge
-Earthquake
-Fire Punch
-Ice Punch
Excadrill comes in on a predicted Wild Charge or Thunderbolt from the special set, and gets outsped and OHKO'd by Earthquake after. And even beyond luring Exca, it can serve as a potent late-game cleaner once a team is weakened thanks to hitting just about everything for super effective damage with one of its coverage moves, as well as serving as an electric immunity with Motor Drive.

Toxtricity by Songheartpuppy on deviantart
Toxtricity@Air Balloon
Ability: Punk Rock
92 Atk / 252 SpA / 164 Spe
Rash Nature
-Boomburst
-Sludge Bomb/Overdrive
-Shift Gear
-Drain Punch
Air Balloon Tox. Idea is pretty straightforward, lure in Exca because it hard counters the normal specs/scarf/throat spray set, pop a shift gear on the switch, and then 2HKO with Drain Punch. Drain Punch + Shift Gear also gives it the ability to beat its other hard counter, Chansey, by outhealing Seismic Toss and being immune to Toxic. Overdrive is generally the preferred choice for the STAB move, although Sludge Bomb can be used if your team needs a check to fairies(although both Azu and Prim are hit harder by Overdrive). Speed EV's are to outspeed Max Speed Jolly Exca at +1 so they can't pop your balloon with Rapid Spin and then kill with EQ. The rest is dumped into a full SpA investment to hit as hard as possible with Boomburst and what's left goes into Attack to deal maximum damage to Chansey and Exca, including giving it a 25% chance to OHKO after 2 layers of spikes and a boost, and an 81.3% chance after 3.

CALCS:
+1 92 Atk Toxtricity Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 264-312 (73.1 - 86.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 92 Atk Toxtricity Drain Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 232-274 (32.9 - 38.9%) -- 99.7% chance to 3HKO
(at +2 its roughly a 10% chance to 2HKO, at +3 its a guaranteed 2HKO)

Voting is over! Congrats to myself for winning the week lol, Excadrill was def a tougher mon to lure than I thought. This week's lure is down below.
:ss/Tapu Bulu:
Tapu Bulu @ Life Orb
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- Darkest Lariat

This week's threat is Tapu Bulu, a Pokemon that has seen a massive resurgence this tier shift. The grassy terrain support it provides is excellent, its SD 3 attacks set is very deadly to switch into, and its typing has good merits checking azumarill and thundurus-t. Removing it can definitely open up a teammate as well as hinder Pokemon that rely on it for support. How will you lure this threat? Submissions are due November 13 at 11:59 PM GMT-8

Krookodile @ Expert Belt

EVs: 252 Atk / 16 SpA / 240 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb
- Stealth Rock

Normally krook can’t really do much to bulu besides maybe toxic it but with this set knock into sludge bomb kills bulu after a bit of chip

252 Atk Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 120 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 66-78 (21.2 - 25%)
16 SpA Expert Belt Krookodile Sludge Bomb vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Bulu: 235-278 (75.5 - 89.3%)

Zygarde-10% @ Choice Band
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Extreme Speed
- Outrage
- Iron Tail

Normally bulu can take advantage of zygarde-10% having no good move to hit tapu bulu but iron tail wipes it as tapu bulu normally can get a free SD off as thousand arrows do 30% max and tapu bulu can use that for free turns.

252+ Atk Choice Band Zygarde-10% Iron Tail vs. 120 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 266-314 (85.5 - 100.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Swampert@Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
76 HP / 252 SpA / 180 Spe
Timid Nature
-Hydro Pump
-Earth Power
-Sludge Wave
-Flip Turn / Ice Beam

The speed EV's let it oustpeed fully invested neutral natured base 60s like Incineroar and Primarina, and outspeed Bulu by 1 point. The sp.attack investment plus the life orb lets it have a guranteed OHKO on Bulu with Sludge Wave. The fourth move is up to whether you want to smack dragon types(namely mence) or maintain momentum and fake being the physical attacker or pivot sets. Alternatively, you could run Toxic in the last slot to cripple switch-ins like Prim and Gastro, or Surf/Scald to have a more reliable STAB move, and in Scald's case to chance for burns on switch-ins. I personally recommend Flip Turn or Scald, but it really comes down to what the team needs. Torrent lets it do big damage with Hydro Pump when its on its last legs, or flippers I guess, and the special attacker angle lets it catch standard physical walls or other mons that might live its moves off guard, like intimidate Krook and Incin, but namely Pelipper, Weezing(both variants) and Tangrowth especially.

Calcs:
252 SpA Life Orb Swampert Sludge Wave vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Bulu: 421-499 (135.3 - 160.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Bulk Up + Acrobatics Zarude (Monke!)

Zarude
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Acrobatics
- Darkest Lariat
- Power Whip

With this set, Zarude can take advantage of Tapu Bulu and survive a Close Combat from full after one Bulk Up, and in return, +1 Acrobatics easily OHKOes back after the -1 Defense drop (But without the -1 Def drop from CC, +1 Acro still has a very high chance to OHKO Tapu Bulu if opponent decides to just click Swords Dance with Bulu instead of CC).

In other situations, Bulk Up + Acrobatics Zarude can also take on Conkeldurr as well as the majority of other common Grass types in the tier such as Tangrowth and Amoonguss by clicking Bulk Up on the switch and then easily 2HKOing them with Acrobatics (+1 Acro OHKOes Max SpDef Amoonguss from full), while taking a little over half from Sludge Bombs. Amoonguss does currently run Clear Smog more often for set-up mons, but PhysDef Amoonguss drops to +1 Acro into unboosted Acro after Clear Smog. As for Conkeldurr, +1 Acro OHKOes where Power Whip would not, while losing only half health from a Guts boosted Mach Punch.

252+ Atk Life Orb Tapu Bulu Close Combat vs. +1 4 HP / 0 Def Zarude: 239-283 (67.8 - 80.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Lycanroc-Dusk @ Life Orb
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Accelerock
- Iron Tail / Iron Head
- Psychic Fangs
- Close Combat

Bulu would normally be a pretty good Lycanroc check, but with Iron Tail you are able to lure Bulu and OHKO (most of the time). You could also opt for the weaker Iron Head, which does much less damage, but is more consistent and can still OHKO after Stealth Rock damage. In either case, having a Steel-type move is nice for threatening Hatterene, Diancie, and Sylveon as well.

252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Lycanroc-Dusk Iron Tail vs. 120 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 304-359 (97.7 - 115.4%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
