Raboot @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Sucker Punch
- U-turn
- Electro Ball / High Jump Kick

Check. Gears are doing an ok chunk to this rabbit assuming Gear Grind lands. It's not even a guaranteed 3HKO if it lands. But if Raboot is brought in safely before a Toxic or Shift Gear, Raboot easily can beat Klinklang with STAB Flare Blitz, even with ToxiTect:

0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Raboot: 82-96 (30.2 - 35.4%) -- approx. 23.7% chance to 3HKO

252 Atk Raboot Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Klinklang: 264-312 (81.4 - 96.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Holding on to Dubwool. Again

Dubwool @ Leftovers
Ability: Fluffy
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Def / 160 Spe
Impish Nature
- Cotton Guard
- Body Press
- Sleep Talk
- Rest
It's the same old song and dance from last time, but it turns out that he works here, too. Unlike last time, however, this ends up being a counter. Gear Grind does weak American damage, even after a +1 that's taken on the turn of switching in. He can sleep off the toxic affliction, and unlike the last set, has the chance to fight back with Sleep Talk. Then after a turn of Cotton Guard, he will hit back with real Soviet damage!

Worth mentioning that if you want to go after Klinklang with Dubwool, you're better off with Spikes, since it gives a better chance of a 2HKO than with Stealth Rock.

0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 96 HP / 252+ Def Fluffy Dubwool: 40-48 (12.9 - 15.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+1 0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 96 HP / 252+ Def Fluffy Dubwool: 58-70 (18.7 - 22.6%)
+2 0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 96 HP / 252+ Def Fluffy Dubwool: 78-92 (25.2 - 29.7%)
+3 0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 96 HP / 252+ Def Fluffy Dubwool: 96-114 (31 - 36.8%) -- approx. 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+3 0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. +3 96 HP / 252+ Def Fluffy Dubwool: 40-48 (12.9 - 15.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252+ Def Dubwool Body Press vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Klinklang: 142-168 (43.8 - 51.8%) -- 11.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery | 68.8% chance to 2HKO after 1 layer of Spikes and Leftovers recovery
+3 252+ Def Dubwool Body Press vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Klinklang: 354-418 (109.2 - 129%)

Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock

- Knock Off
- Toxic
sandslash is a defensive check in my opinion. at full hp, slash can handle even a boosted klinklang and dispose of the gears with earthquake, but doesnt appreciate getting hit with a toxic in the long-term, especially if it's needed to deal with other mons on the opponent's team.

0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 120+ Def Sandslash: 84-98 (23.7 - 27.6%) -- approx. possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 120+ Def Sandslash: 122-146 (34.4 - 41.2%) -- approx. 72.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 120+ Def Sandslash: 164-194 (46.3 - 54.8%) -- approx. 4.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+3 0 Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 120+ Def Sandslash: 204-240 (57.6 - 67.7%) -- approx. 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

This is how much +3 does to Poli

252+ SpA Choice Specs Politoed Surf vs. 252 HP / 160 SpD Klinklang: 181-214 (55.8 - 66%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

And Politoed at least 2HKOs as u can see. Its a downhill battle for our Carousel rip :/

hello this is back after 18 months instead of a week

:ss/centiskorch:
Centiskorch @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Fire Lash
- Leech Life
- Power Whip
- Knock Off

excellent coverage and a great attack stat make centiskorch a very challenging mon to take on, at least from a defensive perspective. however! it also does almost nothing defensively other than switch into ribombee like twice and is forced out by most of the tier. have fun x

hell yeah ! reserving regirock :quagchamppogsire:
:ss/regirock:
Regirock @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 96 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Blast
- Body Press
- Toxic / Thunder Wave / Iron Defense

this spread to counter skorch is just a slightly edited version of the standard regi set, but it can run its typical 252 hp/232 def/24 spdef if you want. (this spread in particular avoids the 2hko from bandggron's head smash (assuming both hit) without rocks and ohkos back with press.)

no matter which spread you go with, regi is never 2hkoed by power whip, which is skorch's strongest move vs you, even with rocks up. 2 hits from a rock blast has an alright chance to ohko, but 3 hits is guaranteed. last move just depends on team support really, but it doesnt matter for this matchup honestly

0 Atk Regirock Rock Blast (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Centiskorch: 312-368 (91.4 - 107.9%) -- approx. 37.5% chance to OHKO
0 Atk Regirock Rock Blast (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Centiskorch: 468-552 (137.2 - 161.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Centiskorch Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 152+ Def Regirock: 120-142 (32.9 - 39%) -- 9.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery; 99.8% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

so happy to see pu votw back after its hiatus!

I could chose one of the many rock-types that do well against the bug but i'll go with something a bit more uncommon.

:ss/qwilfish:

Qwilfish @ Black Sludge
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spikes
- Waterfall
- Pain Split
- Taunt / Thunder Wave / Poison Jab

Qwlifish is a counter to Centiskorch, it's water and poison typing let it resist both of it's stabs on top of being neutral to Power Whip and Knock Off. Its ability Intimidate let it weaken Centiskorch attacks even more and it can 2HKO back with Waterfall/Liquidation. Pain Split let it potentially recover some health if it's too low and the rest of the set is pretty customizable depending on what you want but it doesn't really matter in the 1v1 versus Centiskorch.

:qwilfish: 0 Atk Qwilfish Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Centiskorch: 236-278 (69.2 - 81.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

:centiskorch: -1 252+ Atk Centiskorch Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 40 Def Qwilfish: 96-114 (28.7 - 34.1%) -- 99.6% chance to 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery
-1 252+ Atk Centiskorch Power Whip vs. -1 252 HP / 40 Def Qwilfish: 144-170 (43.1 - 50.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
-1 252+ Atk Centiskorch Fire Lash vs. 252 HP / 40 Def Qwilfish: 48-57 (14.3 - 17%) -- possible 9HKO after Black Sludge recovery
-1 252+ Atk Centiskorch Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 40 Def Qwilfish: 78-92 (23.3 - 27.5%) -- 71.7% chance to 4HKO

Altaria @ Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Hurricane
- Toxic
A rather underrated defensive Pokemon in PU, Altaria stands out as a great defensive CHECK to Centiskorch. The EV spread enables it to outspeed Adamant variants while maintaining as much physical bulk as possible. Altaria doesn’t take much damage from its moves while it threatens it out heavily with Hurricane or Toxic in return, though it hates losing its item and missing with Hurricane. Dual Wingbeat with an Impish nature could be helpful for providing more consistency, though its physical power is still far from ideal and is walled more easily.
252+ Atk Centiskorch Fire Lash vs. 252 HP / 120+ Def Altaria: 57-68 (16.1 - 19.2%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ Atk Centiskorch Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 120+ Def Altaria: 93-110 (26.2 - 31%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Centiskorch Leech Life vs. 252 HP / 120+ Def Altaria: 57-68 (16.1 - 19.2%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ Atk Centiskorch Leech Life vs. -1 252 HP / 120+ Def Altaria: 86-102 (24.2 - 28.8%) -- 98.9% chance to 4HKO
252+ Atk Centiskorch Fire Lash vs. -1 252 HP / 120+ Def Altaria: 86-102 (24.2 - 28.8%) -- 98.9% chance to 4HKO
252+ Atk Centiskorch Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. -1 252 HP / 120+ Def Altaria: 140-165 (39.5 - 46.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Lycanroc @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Psychic Fangs
- Accelerock

Lycanroc is an effective offensive check to Centiskorch. Stone Edge alone is enough to force out / OHKO the bug, but with Accelerock, Lycanroc doesn't have to run the risk of missing and then getting (possibly) unalived by Power Whip. Lycanroc can also directly switch in against Centiskorch on a predicted Fire Lash thanks to its typing, though this is far from ideal, especially if it has already taken chip damage from Life Orb or entry hazards.

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Roost

While Arch doesn't seem as prevalent as in previous metas, it stays as a v solid pivot and reliable offensive check to Centi and a big portion of the meta. It can technically switch in on both of Centi's STAB moves without activating Defiant and lives even a Power Whip, though you rarely wanna risk that with Arch. Just land ur Stone Edges!!!!

:ss/Charizard:
Charizard @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Hurricane
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast

Submitting Charizard as a counter, since Zard's fire-flying typing resists all of Centiskorch's attacks except knock, and Zard outspeeds and OHKOs with Hurricane. In the event that Centiskorch switches out, Zard can roost off any damage it took or fire away a free attack. With boots and roost, it should be fairly easy to keep Zard healthy to counter Centiskorch through a match.

There are only two downsides to Zard as a check: Charizard hates losing its item to knock, and if you switch in on Fire Lash and miss hurricane, -1 Zard dies to Skorch's Knock. If you avoid these two scenarios, a healthy Zard will counter Skorch every time.

Anti-Skorch:
252 SpA Charizard Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Centiskorch: 344-408 (100.8 - 119.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Skorch's options on the switch:
252+ Atk Centiskorch Fire Lash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard: 81-96 (27.2 - 32.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Centiskorch Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard: 131-155 (44.1 - 52.1%) -- 16.4% chance to 2HKO
On the switch, Zard easily takes both of Fire Lash and Knock Off, although taking knock means Zard loses its boots.

In the event of a Hurricane miss, Knock>Lash or Knock>Knock never kill a healthy Charizard, but beware of this:
252+ Atk Centiskorch Fire Lash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard: 81-96 (27.2 - 32.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Centiskorch Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. -1 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard: 196-231 (65.9 - 77.7%) -- 50% chance to OHKO (at 72% hp)
Lash>Knock kills Zard, which is why we don't miss hurricane here.

:centiskorch:
Centiskorch @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Chesto Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Fire Lash
- Leech Life
- Coil
- Rest

Trust no one, even yourself. Coil Centi is a Counter to the provided set.

Coil Centi sets up in the wall breakers face. Knock Off can be a pain early on if you're running Boots, but between Rest and some clerical support it's not a big issue.

Can drop an attacking move for Sleep Talk if you like. Might be worth running some Speed.

Counter: :Altaria: (On the note of Altaria I've found it to be pretty decent in the recent metas. Very consistent mon that I've used to counter mons like centi and zard. great pick!!)

i dont disagree w any of this, but in a vacuum regi is technically a counter. voting for :lycanroc: :archeops: and :qwilfish: btw. funny that skorch has no good consistent answers in pu and has to resort to its old zu answers
