Welcome to the SS OU Set Compendium! The purpose of this thread is to list many (but not all) of the common sets. It will also allow players to find out what is more or less viable in the current metagame, and build a reliable team around. The order of the Pokemon is based on the actual Viability Ranking (please do not post changes about the VR, it's not the right thread to do it). Proposals or suggestions are also sought in order to expand the list of sets.

Posting guidelines:
  • Do not post sets you haven't tested.
  • Please explain the EVs spread.
  • Do a short description of the set; two or three lines are enough.
Note; the moves are slashed in order of viability.

Heatran can hit a lot more speed tiers if it wants mainly some of them in the lower 200s for example outspeeding 0 Spe Buzzwole, Heatran can also run Heavy Slam to deal with Galarian Slowking and CM Clefable easier, or Body Press to deal with Tyranitar and Blissey easier. It can also run a Substitute set with Lava Plume or Will-O-Wisp to spread burns and annoy its checks.

A set with Nature Power can also be used with teammates like Rillaboom, Tapu Koko, and Tapu Bulu which lets it bait some of its checks like Slowking and Hippowdon, although this is inferior to its Specially defensive set as it removes Heatrans very useful defensive utility.

Jolly Nature
- Taunt
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- U-turn / Volt Switch

Tapu Koko is probably the most used screen setter in the tier currently. Its high speed lets it set up screens before taking damage most of the time as well as taunting opposing pokemons that could try to take advantage of this koko's passiveness by trying to set hazards, defogging or setting up. Electric terrain also enables strategies like Lucha's Electric Seed set. While screens HO are not in the best place right now because of the prevalence of Dragapult, it's still a somewhat viable archetype and I think this should be reflected with this set being included in the compendium (for info, in last month's usage stats, screens garnered 24% of koko's usages).

:ss/victini:

Victini @ Choice Scarf
Level: 100
Jolly Nature
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Atk / 196 Spe OR 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe OR 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- V-create
- U-turn
- Bolt Strike/Trick
- Final Gambit

I think this victini set has a great place as a lead on a variety of HO teams that want specific pokemon on the opposing team taken out. Its great speed tier with scarf lets it U-turn for tempo, and final gambit is almost guaranteed to take out something on the opposing team, which other members can exploit. V-create is the standard STAB option for victini and does decent damage even uninvested, while the last spot can be used either for bolt strike for coverage or trick to cripple an opposing wall(this is great for blissey as you can't final gambit it).
252 HP EVs is to make almost 100% sure that final gambit will take almost anything down while 196 speed outspeeds max speed scarf lando and zolt in sand, while full speed investment allows it to tie with volcarona after a quiver dance. 252 attack EVs instead of health is also good if you are running bolt strike instead of final gambit.
Scarfed victini indeed had the highest usage on ladder overall this month too, so I feel it deserves to be placed here even though it isn't the most used in higher ladder.

I also think choice band deserves a spot in here, as it has the highest usage on high ladder, but I don't have the experience to write about it,as I mostly used scarf myself.

:dp/weavile:

flight attendant (Weavile) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Swords Dance

ive been using this as a second option from triple axel; with cb being dropped more often in wcop and on the ladder, sd weavile sticks out fantastically as it remains a viable option. having two dangerous offensive typings makes it a great late-game cleaner with proper offensive support and distributed chip damage. triple axel v icicle crash is a purely subjective choice as they both deviate from each other heavily as an option; a 30% chance to flinch with the same miss % chance versus triple axel, which offers more power per hit being able to get favored rolls (1 hits end up giving a very inconsistent outcome, but are rarely dished out). the choice is yours!

:dp/skarmory:

private jet (Skarmory) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Def / 176 Spe or 192 HP / 252 Def / 64 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Roost
- Iron Defense
- Body Press

stall teams have an annoying matchup with rillazone as both corvi and skarm can both get trapped and be more difficult to play around defensively. skarm is a bit less favored as an iron defence + body press user or defogger (which isn't completely outclassed by corviknight but faces stiff competition on a certain slot), as it is an option that has the ability to check offensive grasses and annoy physical attackers. even with that permanent competition throughout the entire gen it is still rising in viability defensively. in this set a slight difference is the added 176 speed to outspeed max spe modest magnezone. with bp + iron defense zone becoming more common its possible to run 64 speed, being able to fit in more HP for consistent mileage.

Bulk Up Urshifu-R

:ss/Urshifu-Rapid Strike:

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Protective Pads
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- Thunder Punch / Ice Punch / Aqua Jet
- Bulk Up

Using Bulk Up, Urshifu-R can act as deadly breaker that can pressure most of its usual defensive switch ins like Skarmory, Toxapex, Tapu Fini etc.. It can also outlast and beat Dragonite lacking Dual Wingbeat (Ice Punch and EQ are being preferred nowadays), which is one of the best counters to the Band Set.

Set description

Standard EVs. Pads help it avoid contact effects vs Static, Rocky Helmet etc.. which is useful vs Zapdos and TankChomp in particular. Thunder Punch helps it lure in and pressure checks like Toxapex, Tapu Fini, Slowbro etc.. while Ice Punch lets it hit grasses like Tapu Bulu and Amoongus, while being the better option vs Dragapult and Dragonite. Alternatively, Aqua Jet helps it pressure faster mons like Offensive Volcarona, Zeraora etc..

This set works very well on Offensive teams, especially with Tapu Koko's Electric Terrain support if running Thunder Punch. Screen setters like Tapu Koko, A-Ninetales etc.. are appreciated to obtain better setup opportunities. Pokemon like Weavile, Hawlucha, Dragapult appreciate the pressure Urshifu-R puts on Toxapex and Tapu Fini; Garchomp and Kartana appreciate the pressure on Steel Birds; Tapu Koko and Zeraora like the same against Amoongus and Tapu Bulu.

Calcs :

+1 252 Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 144 Def Toxapex: 156-184 (51.3 - 60.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+1 252 Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 116+ Def Tapu Fini: 180-212 (52.3 - 61.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+1 252 Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 218-258 (77.5 - 91.8%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Isn't it better to run some other items on ho? like lum berry, life orb or stuff like that? if there were gems i'd use electric gem to bop pex / fini etc lol. This is life orb damage for example: +1 252 Atk Life Orb Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Toxapex in Electric Terrain: 221-263 (72.6 - 86.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO.
i can see the uses of pads but on ho i feel like you need some immediate power from your item since bulk up is a meh boosting move for an ho playstyle. what do you think?

Yeah you can run other items too, I ran Pads coz Shifu is exposed to too much contact. It was good on my team (in replay) coz I had Dual Screens Koko to give it lot of opportunities to BU
