SS CAP is coming to an end, and there is no better way to celebrate the community that got me on Smogon in the first place than a massive, crazy money tournament! CAP was what first drew me to participate on Smogon, and while I am now active across the site, CAP will always hold a special place for me as the catalyst for my introduction to the community. The prize structure will be as follows:
1st Place: 40% ($400)
2nd Place: 20% ($200)
3rd-4th Place: 10% each ($100)
5th-8th Place: 5% each ($50)

The following rules apply:
Rules:
  • This is a standard [Gen 8] CAP tournament.
  • The format is best of three, single elimination. Quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will be best of five, single elimination.
  • Changing teams in between matches is allowed.
  • It is required that you post your replays to avoid disputes.
  • All Smogon tournament rules apply.
  • Any change in tiering will not take effect until the following round. This includes the potential buffs/nerfs to Saharaja, Miasmaw, and Chromera. Should a buff/nerf go live in the middle of a week, that CAP will be banned for the duration of that week and any extensions for that week.
  • Matches must be played on Pokemon Showdown or Smogtours.
  • Please use this guide when scheduling with your opponent.

Highlight matchups for round 2!

xavgb vs. Chaitanya: stresh, who has to be the early favorite to win this tour, hits his first challenge in Chaitanya, an excellent player in their own right. I have no doubt this will be a banger.

jonfilch vs. Star: like the first matchup I mentioned above, both are great players, but jon is familiar with CAP while Star is a newcomer to the tier. Should be awesome.

SHSP vs. QWILY: QWILY is fairly good at the video game. SHSP knows CAP like the backs of his very hairy hands. If QWILY wins, it shows that tour experience might trump CAP experience in this tour; and vice-versa. Excited to see the result!

Revenge Killer vs. Wulfanator: The team kill is real.

Brambane vs. Voltage: Absolutely hilarious matchup. There will be insane hax everywhere, unviable sets and mons out the ass, and both players will say "dang" in chat at least twice.

SoulWind vs. Gray: One of the goats vs. one of the other goats. Looks like something you would see in OST, so the fact that it is happening in CAP is both stupid and awesome.

RaiZen1704 vs. Atha: Raizen is one of the fastest-rising players on the site. Atha has been playing CAP for years. Hopefully, Raizen pulls through, as there is wholly too much "french scheduling" going on in this tour already.

For those who don't keep up closely with CAP, there were a few mons buffed/nerfed this week. Here are the full changes:

Miasmaw:
+ U-turn
+ Wild Charge
+ Gunk Shot
+ 7 Spe (92 -> 99)
+ 20 SpD (85 -> 105)
- 27 SpA (115 -> 88)

Saharaja:
-8 Atk (120 -> 112)
-7 SpD (130 -> 123)
-12 Speed (90 -> 78)
-Power Whip, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Leech Seed, Sucker Punch, Thunder Wave

Venomicon:
-Earth Power, Mystical Fire

Venomicon-E:
-19 Speed

As of making this post the calc is not updated yet so remember to manually change any altered stats until it is. Also, in case you missed it:

The teambuilder on smogtours reflects these changes, but they still might not be present in actual games until later this week or next. A few sample teams that were affected by these changes have also had movesets/EV spreads updated, so if you want to load one of those samples for this round, I'd recommend getting the latest versions.

Chromera will receive a buff in a couple weeks, but aside from that, there aren't currently any other planned changes for the rest of the tour. That's about all, have a good week!

this is a really disappointing post. i was expecting more of tour host dex to know the matches he's in charge of but i guess not everyone is as good as i am so i'll have to amend his mistakes


AtraX Madara vs quziel: as the chromera buff approaches i can imagine quziel has only grown stronger, either way these are both good players so the game quality should be high

Geysers vs freezai: out of all youtubers freezai is the only one to have advanced to round 2 not off an act call (though we still need to wait for some), and hopefully the higher mons experience among these two players will result in some cool games and commentary later on

poopidoopii vs ApacheRomero: poopi is playing that's a guaranteed fun match

Togkey vs JayHeaven: i do like what togkey ran r1 off of that cappl pipeline and it's great to see such potential matched up with jay again

Rhik vs omicorio: if omi doesn't win i'm gonna be so pissed and that'll be entertaining for everyone else so it gets included

zioziotrip vs Orig Stall Guy: another rajas player vs THE original stall guy (that's right the inventor of stall...)

CallMeDrippyT vs Kaede: this MU goes hard, the only reason I can think that dex didn't include it was because BinPin vs Kaede was top-tier and it's always gonna be downhill when you've peaked

I'm not a big boy like Freezai but I am a Youtuber and made it to R2 without act pogchamp
