Project SS AG Victim of the Week - Week 8: Zekrom

Eternatus @ Black Sludge / Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 224 SpD / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Recover
- Toxic
- Dragon Tail
- Mystical Fire

Since Block Kyogre has no room to run Ice Beam it loses its chance to freeze and break bulky Eternatus. Eternatus has access to Dragon Tail allowing it to not be get trapped by Kyogre or Gothitelle lacking sub aka 99% of Goths. With Toxic Etern can force Kyogre to Rest while having the option to keep its SpA low by using Mystical Fire so it can force it out with DTail reliably while mainting high HP. All this allows Eternatus to reliably check Block Kyogre.

Toxapex @ Shed Shell
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Haze
- Knock Off
- Scald
- Recover

Defensive Toxapex is a counter to Kyogre, especially with Shed Shell. Haze can stall many more turns than CM can boost, and scald does less than lefties heals so barring a burn it can even use attack pp without giving Kyogre a chance to Rest and stal turns. Shed Shell is there naturally for Gothitelle, so even in a pinch it can escape the block from Kyogre while it's resting and bring in a breaker.
0 SpA Toxapex Scald vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre: 20-24 (4.9 - 5.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+1 4 SpA Kyogre Scald vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Toxapex in Rain: 102-121 (33.5 - 39.8%) -- 26.2% chance to 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
The highest it will ever get to boost if hazed immediately is +1 in rain and Toxapex easily lives those hits, making it easily beat out Kyogre.
Block Spite Haze Recover pex also hard wins

Hewo :3. Congrats to GRNBLN for winning this week with your submission of Eternatus! Although MagikRoom appeared to tie, one of the votes did not follow the proper format, but you earn a well deserved second. HoF will be updated whenever Icemaster stops saying Dex-National Anything Goes. Onto this week's behemoth:

:ss/marshadow:

Marshadow @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Poltergeist
- Shadow Sneak
- Ice Punch

Marshadow is a truly terrifying Dynamax sweeper, boasting unresisted stabs who compliment each other ridiculously well when they are Max moves, along with powerful priority, Marshadow is a fearsome late game sweeper. What pokemon can hope to challenge it? Let's see!

Submission deadline is March 10th at 10pm gmt-5

:ss/zacian-crowned:
Zacian-Crowned @ Rusted Sword
Ability: Intrepid Sword
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Behemoth Blade
- Wild Charge
- Close Combat
- Assurance

Zacian-C is an amazing offensive check to Marshadow, capable of outspeeding it due to its naturally high Speed tier and threatening to KO it with a powerful Behemoth Blade. Zacian-C's decent bulk is also enough to live a Shadow Sneak from unboosted Marshadow, which makes it revenge kill Marshadow easily most of the time. Behemoth Blade is also notable for its ability to bypass Dynamax, which negates Marshadow's ability to double its HP and live the attack. In a worst case scenario, Marshadow will be able to live a Behemoth Blade from Zacian-C at full health after a Bulk Up boost, threatening it with either of its STAB moves. However, Marshadow's Life Orb recoil and vulnerability to entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes heavily limits its wallbreaking capabilities. A bulky spread of 184 HP / 252 Atk / 72 Spe could be used in order to check Xerneas better if your team needs it, while still outspeeding Adamant Marshadow.

+1 252+ Atk Zacian-Crowned Behemoth Blade vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Marshadow: 396-466 (123.3 - 145.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Zacian-Crowned Behemoth Blade vs. +1 0 HP / 0 Def Marshadow: 264-312 (82.2 - 97.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Marshadow Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zacian-Crowned: 121-144 (37.2 - 44.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Life Orb Eternatus is a very threatening sweeper, having great coverage for Yveltal and Steel-types, while also being able to hit Pokemon neutrally for nice damage. Unfortunately, as Eternatus has trouble switching into Life Orb Marshadow (virtually everything does), team support, including pivoting such as U-Turn Yveltal, is essential. As Eternatus is faster than Marshadow, it attacks first, being able to LO after Marshadow is slightly chipped:

252 SpA Life Orb Eternatus Dynamax Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Marshadow: 253-298 (78.8 - 92.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Reserving yveltal
:ss/yveltal:

Yveltal @ Life Orb
Ability: Dark Aura
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Oblivion Wing
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch
- Heat Wave

Life orb yveltal is a strong and dangerous sweeper, whether it is dyna or not in Dyna, yveltal orb can still do lots of damage, especially to marshadow. While marsh orb does do a lot of damage to yveltal, it can not kill it. Even if it does do lots of damage that can easily be recovered by Oblivion wing. Yveltal is also capable of Dynamax and getting a nice speed boost while beating the marshadow. Since marshadow is faster, it will Oblivion attack first but that also allows you to drain back that health using Oblivion wing. Marshadow is never capable of killing yveltal unless it is in Dyna and yveltal isn't which would be a foolish approach on beating a marshadow. Marshadow would usually not dyna against a yveltal since it would be a waste but if it did then yveltal would 2ohko it using max airstream so the yveltal would only be damaged one time since the next turn it would be faster due to the max airstream speed boost.

:marshadow: 252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Yveltal: 317-374 (80.6 - 95.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
:marshadow: 252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Max Hailstorm vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Dynamax Yveltal: 458-541 (58.2 - 68.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
:marshadow: 252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Max Hailstorm vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Yveltal: 458-541 (116.5 - 137.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
:yveltal: 252 SpA Life Orb Yveltal Max Airstream vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Dynamax Marshadow: 603-712 (93.9 - 110.9%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
:yveltal: 252 SpA Life Orb Yveltal Oblivion Wing vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Marshadow: 374-439 (116.5 - 136.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO (61.3 - 61.3% recovered)
:yveltal: 252 SpA Life Orb Yveltal Max Airstream vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Marshadow: 603-712 (187.8 - 221.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So the only way that yveltal could die against marsh would be by not dynamaxing and the marshadow dynamaxing which would be a bad idea.

Xerneas @ Leftovers
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Rest
- Aromatherapy
- Sleep Talk

This Xerneas set works effectively as a very solid check/borderline counter to Marshadow. It can live any hit from it and force life orb chip while resting up and always threatening it out with Moonblast. The issues come when it's sleeping and doesn't Aromatherapy to wake up and gets forced to take multiple hits, leading it to not be a hard counter but an incredibly reliable check. Sleep Talk chosen over the other support options listed on the dex for reliability in waking up as well as having actual pressure to exert while sleeping, making it even better at checking this.
Non Dynamaxed:
252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Xerneas: 187-220 (41 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Max Phantasm vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Xerneas: 238-281 (52.1 - 61.6%) -- 96.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Toxapex @ Eject Button
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 SpD
Bold Nature
- Knock Off/Scald
- Recover
- Haze
- Baneful Bunker

Eject. Button. Toxapex.

The whole point of this item choice is to abuse the Poltergeist move mechanics. Once Toxapex gets hit, the eject button will be used up, Toxapex's Regenerator will activate, and Marshadow will not be able to use Poltergeist anymore. That means all Toxapex has to do is stall out three Dynamax turns, which is very easy with Haze removing defense drops, Baneful Bunker to reduce damange and recover for, well recovery. Marsahdow cannot beat this set and it is a great pivot.

252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 208+ Def Toxapex: 138-164 (45.3 - 53.9%) -- 39.8% chance to 2HKO
(first hit. cannot happen again after this)
252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Max Phantasm vs. 252 HP / 208+ Def protected Toxapex: 44-52 (14.4 - 17.1%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ Atk Technician Marshadow Shadow Sneak vs. 252 HP / 208+ Def Toxapex: 58-69 (19 - 22.6%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ Atk Marshadow Max Phantasm vs. 252 HP / 208+ Def Toxapex: 135-159 (44.4 - 52.3%) -- 14.8% chance to 2HKO (After Life Orb Knock Off)

Buzzwole @ Leftovers / Shed Shell
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Toxic
- Ice Punch
- Lunge

This underrated Ultra Beast that by the way is also a great Zygarde check is able to check Marshadow even if it Dynamaxes. Roost for recovery and Toxic for Toxic stalling + Lunge that gives the target -1 attack 100% of the time which helps regulating damage as Max Phantasm drops your defense. Buzzwoles Bug-Typing resists CC / Max Knuckle so Marsh has to rely on Polt to do damage (Ice Punch or Rock Tomb dont really hurt it).
As you can see from the calcs below even in a worst case scenario Marsh vs -1 Buzzwole the dmg can be managable as Buzz will act after Marsh being able to Roost / Lunge.

252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Max Phantasm vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Buzzwole: 181-214 (43.3 - 51.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Buzzwole: 142-169 (33.9 - 40.4%) -- 42.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. -1 252 HP / 252+ Def Buzzwole: 142-169 (33.9 - 40.4%) -- 42.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Worst Case Calc:
252+ Atk Life Orb Marshadow Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. -1 252 HP / 252+ Def Buzzwole: 214-253 (51.1 - 60.5%) -- 91% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

S/o to Zayele who helped me come up with the idea! :)
