Hello all, this thread marks the beginning of a new means of communication between the 1v1 metagame council and the greater community: Public Tiering Surveys! Tiering surveys, inspired by OU's initial implementation of the idea, consist of multiple questions that allow us to gauge how the playerbase feels about the metagame and prominent aspects that dominate it at any given point in time.

Bear in mind, of course, that the results of these surveys won't necessarily dictate whether or not suspects happen, but instead help to get a frame of reference for understanding where people are coming from, as well as potentially getting discussion started on prominent aspects that may not have been considered prior.

With all that said, here's 1v1's first Tiering Survey! If you have any questions regarding how to fill it out or any other difficulties, feel free to message any member of the 1v1 council for clarification, including myself, Alakazam, Waylaid, Here Comes Team Charm!, crucify, and smely socks, as well as Boat, who also helped in putting this survey together!

We've reached the deadline for submissions, so the poll is now closed, and it's time for results! We got almost 100 submissions with this poll! Big thanks to everyone who took the time to provide this feedback so we can help keep 1v1 moving forward! If you'd like to discuss what you submitted or anything else, you can feel free to post in the Metagame Discussion thread or 1v1 Discord.

The results for each question will be shown in three different manners, being a graph for a visual representation of everyone's answers, an average value of everyone's answers, and an average value of the 47 responses from people who met the tour/ladder criteria to be counted as a qualified response.

1. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you enjoy the current metagame? See: do you enjoy playing it? 1 being unenjoyable, 10 being extremely enjoyable.

(Don't ask why it's not order because I honestly have no clue myself)
1617428243488.png

With 93 responses, this puts the average response at 7.172, meaning that most people are enjoying the metagame.

Of the 47 qualified responses, the average response was 6.809, meaning that most experienced players are enjoying the metagame, albeit a bit less than the average person.

2. On a scale of 1-10, how competitive do you find the current metagame? See: does the better player win more often than not? 1 being uncompetitive, 10 being extremely competitive.

(This one too)
1617428291619.png

With 92 responses, this puts the average response at 6.978, meaning that most people find the metagame at least relatively competitive.

Of the 47 qualified responses, the average response was 7.109, meaning that most experienced players find the metagame at least relatively competitive, slightly even moreso than the average player.

3. On a scale of 1-5, how positive of an impact do you feel Urshifu Single-Strike has on the metagame? 1 being a very negative impact, 5 being a very positive impact.

1617428322075.png

With 92 responses, this puts the average response at 3.054, showing that the general community is split almost evenly down the middle when it comes to whether or not Urshifu Single-Strike has a negative impact on the metagame.

Of the 47 qualified responses, the average response was 3.277, showing that experienced players are split almost evenly down the middle when it comes to whether or not Urshifu Single-Strike has a negative impact on the metagame, though notably slightly more positive than the average player.

4. On a scale of 1-5, how positive of an impact do you feel Genesect has on the metagame? 1 being a very negative impact, 5 being a very positive impact.

1617428363335.png

With 92 responses, this puts the average response at 3.315, showing that the general community is split almost evenly down the middle when it comes to whether or not Genesect has a negative impact on the metagame, though notably slightly more positive than they feel for Urshifu.

Of the 47 qualified responses, the average response was 3.340, showing that the experienced players are split almost evenly down the middle when it comes to whether or not Genesect has a negative impact on the metagame, almost to the exact same degree as the average player.

5. On a scale of 1-5, how positive of an impact do you feel Spectrier has on the metagame? 1 being a very negative impact, 5 being a very positive impact.

1617428384224.png

With 92 responses, this puts the average response at 2.815, showing that the general community is split almost evenly down the middle when it comes to whether or not Spectrier has a negative impact on the metagame, though notably slightly less positive than they feel for Urshifu.

Of the 47 qualified responses, the average response was 2.787, showing that the experienced players are split almost evenly down the middle when it comes to whether or not Spectrier has a negative impact on the metagame, almost to the exact same degree as the average player.

With these results in mind, Spectrier is looking to be the main point of discussion for a potential suspect in the near future. By no means will Urshifu and Genesect be ignored, rather that Spectrier seems to be the most prominent issue in most people's perspectives. As the metagame continues to evolve, there will be more surveys in the future, and we will continue to keep an eye on how the metagame develops. If you have any questions on the results or anything, feel free to message me or any other council member any time. In addition, we got lots of input from the written answer final question which we'll be looking over and taking into consideration!

Thanks again to everyone who made a submission to the survey! The council will be taking these responses into consideration as we plan out what's coming up next for SS 1v1! Be sure to stay tuned until then!

With the conclusion of 1v1 World Cup V, we now have 1v1's second Tiering Survey! It's been a decent while since the conclusion of the last suspect, and the prep-heavy environment of another major team tour has helped us come to get a feel for what the metagame's coming to settle upon. If you have any questions regarding how to fill it out or any other difficulties, feel free to message any member of the 1v1 council for clarification, including myself, Nalei, Waylaid, Here Comes Team Charm!, crucify, smely socks, and Potatochan!

Also, to avoid any confusion, while this survey does require you to sign in with a Google account prior to being able to fill anything out, we are not seeing anyone's email addresses. The only data we see on our end will be the answers you submit on the actual survey.

1630097281503.png

With 58 responses, this puts the average response at 2.966, showing that the general community feels pretty indifferently towards Zygarde's impact upon the metagame. Though notably there are more votes on the negative side (1/2) than there are on the positive (3/4).

Of the 37 qualified responses, the average response was 3.027, showing that experienced players feel pretty indifferently towards Zygarde's impact upon the metagame, about as much as the average player.

5. On a scale of 1-5, how positive of an impact do you feel Regidrago has on the metagame? 1 being a very negative impact, 5 being a very positive impact.

Of the 37 qualified responses, the average response was 3.73, showing that experienced players feel Urshifu-Single-Strike has a generally positive impact upon the metagame. This is a notable increase from the prior survey where the results were leaning more in the middle.

With these results in mind, Regidrago and Zygarde are looking to be the main points of discussion for potential suspects in the near future. By no means will the other Pokemon be ignored if arguments for them are brought forth, though for the time being it's clear to see where the collective community is most concerned.

Wsg 1v1, with the conclusion of the 2021 circuit we will now be holding our third 1v1 Tiering Survey! It has been a while since the last suspect or survey and much has changed so we thought it would be a good idea to find out the community's thoughts on some hot topics before the next 1v1 Premier League. If you have any questions regarding how to fill it out or any other difficulties, feel free to message any member of the 1v1 council for clarification, including myself, Rosa Nalei, Waylaid, Here Comes Team Charm!, crucify, and Potatochan!

Also, to avoid any confusion, while this survey does require you to sign in with a Google account prior to being able to fill anything out, we are not seeing anyone's email addresses. The only data we see on our end will be the answers you submit on the actual survey.

We've reached the deadline for submissions, so the poll is now closed, and it's time for results! We got about 50 submissions with this poll! Big thanks to everyone who took the time to provide this feedback so we can help keep 1v1 moving forward! If you'd like to discuss what you submitted or anything else, you can feel free to post in the Metagame Discussion thread or 1v1 Discord.

The results for each question will be shown in three different manners, being a graph for a visual representation of everyone's answers, an average value of everyone's answers, and an average value of the 35 responses from people who met the tour/ladder criteria to be counted as a qualified response.

1. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you enjoy the current metagame? See: do you enjoy playing it? 1 being unenjoyable, 10 being extremely enjoyable.
1640233911267.png

With 49 responses, this puts the average response at 6.592, meaning that most people are enjoying the metagame. Though slightly less than they were from the previous survey.

Of the 35 qualified responses, the average response was 6.8, meaning that most experienced players are enjoying the metagame, slightly more than the average person. This number stayed about the same from the prior survey.

2. On a scale of 1-10, how competitive do you find the current metagame? See: does the better player win more often than not? 1 being uncompetitive, 10 being extremely competitive.
1640234777451.png

With 49 responses, this puts the average response at 6.98, meaning that most people find the metagame at least relatively competitive. This number stayed about the same from the prior survey.

Of the 35 qualified responses, the average response was 7.229, meaning that most experienced players find the metagame at least relatively competitive, about as much as the average player. This number increased slightly from the prior survey.

3. On a scale of 1-5, how problematic do you feel Power Construct (Zygarde-Complete) is towards the metagame? See: would you ban it? 1 being unproblematic (you would not ban it), 5 being very problematic (you would ban it).
1640235057833.png

With 49 responses, this puts the average response at 3.469, showing that the general community feels Power Construct is slightly more banworthy than not.

Of the 35 qualified responses, the average response was 3.571, showing that experienced players feel Power Construct is slightly more banworthy than not, even moreso than the average player.

4. On a scale of 1-5, how problematic do you feel Regidrago is towards the metagame? See: would you ban it? 1 being unproblematic (you would not ban it), 5 being very problematic (you would ban it).
1640236363479.png

With 49 responses, this puts the average response at 2.551, showing that the general community feels Regidrago isn't overly banworthy.

Of the 35 qualified responses, the average response was 2.6, showing that experienced players feel Regidrago isn't overly banworthy.

With these results in mind, Power Construct is looking like the prime target for a potential suspect, while the concern over Regidrago has fallen off quite a bit since the prior survey. As the metagame continues to evolve, there will be more surveys in the future, and we will continue to keep an eye on how the metagame develops. If you have any questions on the results or anything, feel free to message me or any other council member any time. Gm 1v1, it's been a while but with the conclusion of 1v1 WC VI we will now be holding our fourth 1v1 Tiering Survey! It has been a little bit since the last suspect or survey and with the gen 9 on the horizon we thought it would be a good idea to do one last survey to see how the community feels about the meta. If you have any questions regarding how to fill it out or any other difficulties, feel free to message any member of the 1v1 council for clarification, including myself, Rosa, Nalei, Waylaid, Here Comes Team Charm!, and DEG!

Also, to avoid any confusion, while this survey does require you to sign in with a Google account prior to being able to fill anything out, we are not seeing anyone's email addresses. The only data we see on our end will be the answers you submit on the actual survey.

Gm, I am here to bring you all the recent tiering survey results! This time around we had 68 responses which is a pretty big jump from last time so thank you to those of you who took the time to fill it out! As always if you would like to discuss anything about the survey whether it be what you submitted or the results feel free to post in the Metagame Discussion thread of in the 1v1 Discord.

The results for each question will be shown in three different manners, being a graph for a visual representation of everyone's answers, an average value of everyone's answers, and an average value of the 52 responses from people who met the tour/ladder criteria to be counted as a qualified response.

1. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you enjoy the current metagame? See: do you enjoy playing it? 1 being unenjoyable, 10 being extremely enjoyable.

1659941470700.png

From the total 68 responses the average response was 6.55. This means that for the most part people are enjoying the metagame. This was just slightly lower than the previous survey

Of the 52 qualified responses the average response was 6.69. This means that more experienced players find the metagame a little more enjoyable than the average person, and slightly less than the previous survey

2. On a scale of 1-10, how competitive do you find the current metagame? See: does the better player win more often than not? 1 being uncompetitive, 10 being extremely competitive.

1659941485895.png

From the total 68 responses the average response was 7.04. This means that for the most part people find the metagame competitive. This was just slightly higher than the previous survey

Of the 52 qualified responses the average response was 6.69. This means that more experienced players find the metagame a little less competitive than the average person, and also quite a bit less than the previous survey.

3. Which statement most accurately describes how you feel about Togekiss in SS 1v1?

1659941507058.png

Of the 68 responses 64.7% does NOT believe that action should be taken place on Togekiss. Of the 68 responses only 24 supported tiering action. While this is a considerable amount, it isn't anywhere close to a majority.

From the 52 qualified responses, 71.1% do NOT believe that action should be taken against Togekiss. This is a considerable amount higher than the general public. For a more specific breakdown of the votes 6 qualified voters said Togekiss is entirely balanced, 31 said it's generally balanced, 14 said it is generally unbalanced, and only 1 supported direct tiering action.

While there's a significant number of people who support action against Togekiss, it is still a far cry from a majority. If you wish to give your opinions on the subject, I once again encourage you to start discussion in the Metagame Discussion thread of the 1v1 discord.

4. If you could retest any currently banned Pokemon right now, would you?

1659941541476.png

This question produced somewhat messy results, but hey that's why we're trying new stuff to see where we can improve. From the general results it appears that none of the offered options for a retest have very much support, with the highest being Necrozma at only 25%. I'd also like to mention that there was 1 vote for Marshadow, 1 vote for Palkia, 3 for Zekrom, 3 for Sableye, 1 for Kyurem-Black, a few people asking for complex bans like Victini without V-create, and 1 for dmax which surprisingly wasn't me and I 100% can get behind (free it cowards).

The results of the qualified responses were roughly the same. Of the responses 16 did not support any retesting (30.7%), 14 supported retesting Necrozma (26.9%), 13 supported retesting Genesect (25%), 11 supporting restesting Victini (21.1%), 10 supported retesting Power Construct (19.2%), and 9 supported retesting Snorlax (17.3%). Similar to the general responses none of these have anywhere near a majority support and as such you shouldn't expect any suspects on previously banned mons anytime soon.

5. Would you support tiering action on any of these lesser used uncompetitive aspects of 1v1?

1659941560422.png

This question was incredibly contested, with multiple answers coming close to a majority, but none quite receiving one from the general public although Attract seems to be a perfectly even split.

The qualified results have similar responses with 21 responses did not support tiering action on any of the options (40.3%), 21 responses supporting tiering action on King's Rock and Razor Fang (40.3%), 22 responses supporting tiering action on Sand Veil and Snow Cloak (43.3%), and 27 responses supporting tiering action on Attract (51.9%). Something significant from this is that of the qualified responses, a majority support tiering action on Attract.

This was to be expected as lesser used uncompetitive aspects are a constant debate so if you have opinions on the subject please start discussions in the Metagame Discussion thread of the 1v1 discord. I hate to repeat myself so many times, but it's really the best way to have your voice be heard and attempt to make a difference. I wouldn't expect anything in the immediate future, but these will all be up for discussion for the time being. Additionally, I understand that there were some options such as Quick Draw that people might have preferred to be on the survey. This does not mean that they are not up for discussion and if the community wants the council to look at other aspects the council will.

Open response question notes (yes the council reads these)
  • Shoutouts to the 1 person who pointed out the typo! Glad at least someone read the questions
  • To those of you who support retesting a mon you weren't around for, trust me there's a very good reason it's banned
  • While they seemed somewhat arbitrary, we had the questions about unbans and uncompetitive stuff just to gauge community support. The council likes the current meta, but if they community significantly disagreed we would like to know.
  • Someone mentioned fixing how we do samples and made some very good arguments on why! As such we'll be taking a look at how we do them in the future to ensure a more fair process
  • hiii Vrji rumia

With these results in mind it looks like various uncompetitive aspects will remain a hot topic for the remainder of the generation. One could argue that this being the main focus is a good thing because it means there aren't any overbearing mons to focus on instead, and any discussion on the topic will be closely followed by the council as they continue to discuss it as well. The council will also be keeping an eye on Togekiss, but seeing the results of the survey it is unlikely that anything will become of it. If you have any questions, recommendations, or spot any errors feel free to reach out to anyone on the council as well.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the survey. It's really important to me that we stay in touch with you all so those of you who took this seriously are greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to the new generation and what it will bring, but for now we have to make sure we leave SS in as good of a spot as possible and these help make that possible. GN
