Project SM OU Lure That Threat v2 Round 45 - Heart Swap Magearna

Good

CM Stored Power Clefable - Haven't seen anyone use this in a while but it's fire.
DD Outrage Zard X - Built around this recently, it's the goat.

Decent

Metronome Zygarde - Sub would've pushed it into good, but this set can be Toxiced which sucks.

Bad

Grassium Z Serperior - Pyukumuku the Serperior switchin!
Taunt Mega Gyara - Pyukumuku isn't a switchin bc it's fucked by Sub and Taunt and Mold Breaker bypasses Unaware.
SubSwarm Volcarona - Bug Buzz into Z kills anyway, you can fish for drops, and there's always Chansey in the back.

Round 39: (Mega) Tyranitar Revisited
Deadline: 23rd October

/

Tyranitar @

Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Atk / 44 SpD / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Earthquake / Fire Punch

Tyranitar @

Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch / Earthquake

Martin had people lure this mon before, but the lure's used then are either viable sets now (Earthquake Mega Latios) or are very outdated, so I thought it'd be worth it to revisit it.

Heatran @ Steelium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock

Steelium Heatran can lure and OHKO Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar with Corkscrew Crash, altought for Mega Tyranitar you'll need some prior damage or Stealth Rock to beat it, it's also useful to lure some of Heatran's usual checks like Mega Latios, Gliscor and Mega Alakazam and make a good amount of damage to Zygarde.

252+ SpA Heatran Corkscrew Crash (160 BP) vs. 8 HP / 44 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 368-434 (107.2 - 126.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Heatran Corkscrew Crash (160 BP) vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 326-386 (85.1 - 100.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Heatran Corkscrew Crash (160 BP) vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 326-386 (85.1 - 100.7%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Reuniclus @ Leftovers / Grassy Seed / Electric Seed / Fightinium Z
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Recover

Normally Reuniclus' matchup versus Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Weavile and other powerful non-boosting Dark-types is that it's a bit reliant on PP stalling them with Acid Armour and CM while avoiding critical hits/flinches etc. due to its inability to damage them with its sole attacking move (assuming it can even take them on at all), and while this sometimes does work out and is basically a free win when it does, it's not what I'd call "consistent" by any stretch, especially considering that crits have a 1/24 chance of occurring, giving Reuniclus a 36.0% chance of winning out versus Tyranitar ((23/24)^24) and a 25.6% chance of winning out against Choice Band (i.e. non-Swords Dance) Weavile. Focus Blast remedies this by allowing Reuniclus to hit them extremely hard as they switch in, OHKOing Weavile and Bisharp, 2HKOing Hydreigon and chunking away the vast majority of Tyranitar/Mega Tyranitar's HP.

Given the lack of Acid Armour, it's definitely worth considering a number of alternative items in place of the typical Leftovers:
  • Grassy Seed and Electric Seed are cool options on this variant that help Reuniclus set up more easily against physical attackers while also serving to reduce Knock Off damage, allowing Reuniclus to take 1 hit from Weavile later on if it gets forced out after coming in on terrain+loses the boost for whatever reason
  • Fightinium Z allows Reuniclus to OHKO both TTars and Hydreigon, helps Reuniclus break through Mega Scizor without taking risks with U-turn, and just generally provides useful breaking power versus bulkier non-Psychic-type/Sableye-shaped Psyshock resists when you're not in a position to clean up.

Toxic Pressure Zapdos

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 240 Def / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Discharge
- Roost
- Heat Wave
- Toxic

Toxic catches both forms of Tyranitar on the switch-in which will wear them down throughout the course of the match.

Zapdos also has the ability to Pressure-stall Stone Edge with a combination of Roost, faster Speed, and great physical bulk. Tyranitar will have to watch for Earthquake use while Roosting, however.

Sub-Punch Charizard-Y

(Sorry, I'm on mobile and don't know how to put sprites)

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 192 Atk / 64 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Substitute
- Focus Punch

Some may question the choice, since focus blast would make more sense as it goes off his special attack, but this set allows charizard to not rely on luck and directly sub on the switch and punch directly for the OHKO normal tyranitar and almost mega tyranitar with the extra, that the attack EVs allow for the 2HKO on Chansey, with sub also avoiding annoying toxics. Wish or Healing Wish is preferred alongside this Charizard for healing,

Calcs (please teach how to do the blue pop-up):
192 Atk Charizard-Mega-Y Focus Punch vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 492-580 (136.2 - 160.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

192 Atk Charizard-Mega-Y Focus Punch vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 492-580 (136.2 - 160.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

192 Atk Charizard-Mega-Y Focus Punch vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 352-416 (50.1 - 59.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

192 Atk Charizard-Mega-Y Focus Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 254-300 (65.8 - 77.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (about the same damage as Focus Blast)

Yes, I know this is a horrible set. Just want to try something silly on my first time here

Celesteela @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Heavy Slam
- Autotomize
- Superpower

Tyrannitar and Mega Tyrannitar usually outspeed and beat this mon 1v1. Not anymore with this set. Without the Z crystal, Superpower OHKO's banded Tyranniar, and Z Superpower OHKO's bulky Mega Tyrannitar. Autotomize allows Celesteela to outspeed a +1 Mega Tyrannitar that would dance on the switch or if it attacks, Celesteela eats every hit, barring critical hits. This Celesteela can even sweep teams if given the right matchup.

Blacephalon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

NP Aura Sphere Mew

Mew @ Life Orb (or Fightinium Z)
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Ice Beam
- Aura Sphere
- Psychic

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Mew Aura Sphere vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 437-515 (114 - 134.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Although Mega Tyranitar hates to risk being burned, 85% accuracy is still a thing to consider and your opponent can have a cleric on his side to get rid of burn. Not only that, but Psychic can lure in many Pursuit trappers that are immune to it; now, you can afford to set up a fast Nasty Plot and then retaliate back.

Fightinium Z is a good option in order to increase the resilience of Mew towards Knock Off, but Life Orb is still a good item.
252 SpA Mew All-Out Pummeling (160 BP) vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 336-396 (87.7 - 103.3%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

Gengar @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Taunt

All-Out Pummelling gives Gengar a 100% accurate option to cleanly OHKO Tyranitar. The lure is extra effective as Mega Tyranitar lives a regular Focus Blast and will be actively looking to Pursuit trap Gengar. Fightium Z Gengar is useful to lure Pokemon like Heatran/Ferrothorn too and can be a terror with Taunt in some matchups.

Good

Fightinium Z Tornadus-T - This set's fantastic, not much more to say.
Steelium Z Heatran - The set's fairly common so you're gonna have to play intelligently in order to catch them with this, but it's a good lure nonetheless.
Fightinium Z Reuniclus - I still think 2 atks Reuniclus is a good set, but I think Focus Blast is one of the shittier moves to run on it (you're walled by Sableye and it doesn't OHKO Tyranitar), unless you're running Z. Weakening Knock's cool, and it ensures you actually OHKO both Tyranitar and Mega (it might be worth to run 8 SpAtk to guarantee the OHKO on Mega however).

Decent

Fightinium Z Gengar - Non Hex + Will-O-Wisp Gengar's a bit sucky imo since you're not abusing shit like Celesteela and Toxapex as well, but I wouldn't scout for this so it definitely lures.
Toxic Pressure Zapdos - Most teams would rather have HP Ice or Defog in the last slot, but in the unlikely event neither are needed, Toxic's a fine last slot, and it does annoy the two.

Bad

NP Mew - Don't run this set without Mewnium Z, and Fighting move on Nasty Plot is fairly common so it should be scouted for.
Focus Punch Zard Y - Don't run this lol.
Specs Blacephalon - As much as I love this set, you gotta have Rocks up / equivalent chip on regular to even have a chance to 2HKO with HP Grass, and it does dog shit to Mega (252 SpA Choice Specs Blacephalon Hidden Power Grass vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 126-150 (32.8 - 39.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock). They also, in dire situations, can just sack something to whatever and then guaranteed live +1 HP Grass to OHKO you with Pursuit.
Fightinium Z Celesteela - Offensive Celesteela doo doo.

Alright folks, sadly we're gonna have to put this on a hiatus. We've been scraping the bottom of the barrel for mons to lure for a while now and we've come to the agreement that barrel is just about empty. It's been great fun running it, but the thread is gonna have to go on a hiatus until further notice (until hopefully something comes up that Jordy and I agree is worth luring). I'd like to thank Jordy for helping me run this, I'd like to thank Martin for starting it, and I'd also like to thank everyone that participated - the thread wouldn't have run for a full year without you guys. Till next time.

Round 40: Kyurem
Deadline: 23rd of February

Kyurem @ Metronome / Icium Z
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 56 HP / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Roost

Kyurem has been seeing an uptick in usage within recent months to take advantage of Pokemon like Toxapex, Ferrothorn, and Tapu Bulu thanks to its unique combination of its typing, bulk, Pressure, and decent Speed tier. How would you lure this Pokemon?

Spread can be whatever; I have like a dozen different options, but I took this one from an older team. Either way, you nuke it with Z Superpower with this investment against 56 HP / 0 Def Kyurem. Bluff SDef with the damage it does and takes, but Z can be predictable perhaps due to lack of Leftovers. Either way, it’s a decent option that can do the trick.

Greninja @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Low Kick
- Gunk Shot
- Ice Beam
- Spikes

Kyurem can typically come in on Greninja expecting it to be Ash-Greninja, especially if the opponent predicts that it will go for Water Shuriken to revenge kill. Physical-based Protean Greninja can then lure it in and punish it with Low Kick. Its Z-Move and vanilla Low Kick after Stealth Rock damage will KO Kyurem easily, but vanilla Low Kick only has an extremely slim chance to KO at full. However, it's enough damage to stop it from using Substitute, so you gain all the momentum while Kyurem is in a very bad position,

Usually, Kyurem can adequately wall most Koko sets as they tend to run boltbeam at most for coverage. However, Specs Koko can afford fairy stab which can ruin a Kyurem trying to switch in.

EVs: 252 HP / 24 Def / 232 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Spikes / Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip / Knock Off / Protect
- Iron Head

This isn't getting as PP stalled as Gyro is. Kyurem usually doesn't care about switching into whip or knock, due to roost. Leech doesn't quite bother it either. Iron Head just plows through it, and cannot be PP stalled as fast as Gyro, which is why I chose it. I'll admit, its situational, so ya'll probably won't vote for it. It's still an option for slower fairies tho too.

if you're going this route imo you should run careful with 31 speed IVs so you can occasionally Iron Head stuff that's paralyzed and get the jump on them

Good

Fightinium Z Tapu Bulu - Kyurem can usually take Superpower from specially defensive Tapu Bulu quite well, so it'll often try to switch into Tapu Bulu, this is a nice set to get the job done alongside Choice Band. Not revealing Leftovers can be a bit of an issue however.

Decent

Fightinium Z Greninja - Although Kyurem usually won't want to switch into Ash-Greninja early-game, which is usually when you reveal your Greninja form, it can still work decently if they assume Greninja's set.
Choice Specs Tapu Koko - People are rapidly picking up on Choice Specs Tapu Koko again, leaving the surprise element behind, but many people are still assuming like Defog sets etc. so it works decently well.

Bad

Iron Head Ferrothorn - You still get stalled so there's really no reason to use it ever.

Thunder Wave + Confide Blob (Lure That Lure)

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave
- Confide

This is not a lure that invites the threat to switch in to get destroyed, but invites it to stay in, only to get crippled and forced out, and is mainly intended for stall teams. Chansey naturally switchs in on and walls most Magearna sets, so your opponent will think they are gonna surprise you with this set and drop an early gg against your filthy stall. You are basically luring a lure.

CM + PS Magearna will fearlessly set-up in front of Chansey, as the most common moves it runs are Toxic and rocks. But T-Wave will cripple it considerably, making it slower than most stall mons and therefore more manageable. Confide covers the scenario in wich Magearna keeps setting up. If Magearna doesn't run away, it either ends up PP stalled, or in range of Seismic Toss after some full paras.

Confide Chansey also PP stalls Sub-CM Blacephalon and stallbreaker Reuniclus, threats that can 6-0 unprepared stall teams, and doesn't lose much because Chansey fits in any conceivable stall build, so you can accompany it with as many Toxic and SR users as you wish.
