Amazing logo by Bummer!

Hello again guys, here's another idea I came up with to try and increase activity here in RU.

How to participate:
  • The RU Mini-Tournaments are run just like an official Smogon tournament. The first thread/post posted is the sign-ups. During the sign-ups you post "in".
  • The Rounds will last exactly 3 days from the second the round is posted here in the RU sub-forum. At the end of the 3 days, I will call any unfinished matches and move to the next round, no exceptions.
  • All of the Rounds will take place in this thread, so keep your eyes peeled for when the round is over and the next round has started!
  • Each mini-tournament will consist of 16, 24, or 32 participants, no more than that or it stops being mini. First 16 are in for 16- and 24-man tourneys with the last 8 randomized for 24-man tourneys, and the first 20 are in with the last 12 being randomized for 32-man tourneys. Each sign-ups will try to achieve 32 participants, but if it isn't possible, then it will be a 16- or 24-man tourney with the first 16 that signed up in.

Identity

I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.

Scouting

Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any blatant scouting. There is a difference between "[user] is known for using stall" and "let me follow [user] around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter. With that said, I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching.

Timer Clause

As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.

Disconnections

Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

I know that was a lot to read, but it is all necessary for me to have posted here so everyone can see it in the case of a dispute. I don't want any confusion or any problems.

RU Mini-Tournaments Rules:
  • Battles will be played on Pokemon Showdown!.
  • Standard Gen V RU. Refer to this page for more information on usable Pokemon.
  • Any Pokémon that is not considered Uber, OU, BL, UU, or BL2 is allowed (refer to the banlist below)
  • If during the middle of a round, a Pokémon, ability combination, etc. moves into or out of RU, those changes will be effective starting in the next round.
  • This is a single elimination best of one tournament.
  • You may switch your team each round.

Clauses:
  • Sleep
  • Species
  • Wi-Fi Battle
Banlist

Moves:
All moves that increase Evasion only (Double Team, Minimize)
All instant OHKO moves (Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Sheer Cold)
Shell Smash + Baton Pass on a single Pokemon

Abilities:
Moody
Drizzle + Swift Swim on the same team
Drought
Sandstream
Snow Cloak
Sand Veil

Any Pokemon in the Uber, OU, BL, UU, or BL2 tiers are banned. Tiers can be viewed here.

Other things to note about RU Mini-Tournaments:
  • All Rounds and tournaments will take place in this thread, so keep your eyes peeled for the start of new rounds and sign-ups.
  • Each tournament can and probably will have a quirk dealing with the RU metagame. We'll start with a standard RU tourney. Following tourneys will have weird quirks like "you must have 3 Electric-types on your team" or "no top 10 Pokemon."
  • Because most of these tourneys will have weird quirks, please save your logs and be prepared to take a screenshot of the battle should you suspect your opponent of cheating. However, I do not want your logs and you don't have to submit your teams to me or whoever is running the mini-tourney.
  • Because all of the mini-tourneys will take place in this thread, there won't be more than one tourney running at a time.
  • Any of the above rules are subject to change depending on the tourney.

Possible Rewards for multiple winners:
  • Custom title under your forum name
  • HOPs (Half-ops status (%) in #rarelyused)

If you have any questions/concerns please don't be hesitate to post them below.

This is a Standard RU tournament where your teambuilding will become more and more limited as the tournament progresses. Each round, you will lock yourself into using a particular Pokemon on all of your teams for the rest of the tournament, while also adding that Pokemon to the pool of available Pokemon for other players to select from. As players are eliminated, any Pokemon that they had selected are permanently removed from play.

When you sign up, you MUST include a Pokemon species (that is allowed in RU) in your post. Your Pokemon must be unique; if someone else already posted your first choice, you have to pick something else. You must include this Pokemon on every team you use in this tournament, so make sure it's one you enjoy using! Note that you only have to lock yourself into a species of Pokemon, not a particular set. You are free to change sets between rounds, and you don't need to include the set you plan to use in your post.

In Round 1, your team will include the Pokemon you posted and 5 Pokemon that you can choose privately from the pool of Pokemon that were selected by other players.

After your Round 1 match, if you win, you must post another Pokemon that has not been selected by anyone else in this round or any previous round. This Pokemon will be added to the pool for Round 2, and you will be forced to use both this Pokemon and the one you selected in sign-ups for the rest of the tournament. If you lose, your selected Pokemon is out of the pool permanently. This pattern will continue for the rest of the tournament. Each round, the winners will lock themselves into another Pokemon for their teams while adding it to the pool, and the losers' Pokemon will be permanently removed from play.

Let's pretend we have an 8-man tournament. The following players sign up:

<complete_legitimacy> in. Sigilyph.
<Texas> in. Druddigon.
<SilentVerse> in. Butterfree.
<Molk> in. Scraggy.
<Oglemi> in. Gardevoir.
<Nails> in. Entei.
<MysteryUserX> this tournament is rigged in favor of the mods i wanted entei but nails stayed up in the middle of the night and stole it from me ok fine i'm in. Amoonguss.
<Honko> in. Pinsir.

In Round 1, everyone must use the Pokemon that they selected, and the rest of their team must be made up of Pokemon that other people selected. So taking poor, poor MysteryUserX as an example:

(Amoonguss / Entei / Gardevoir / Druddigon / Snover / Sigilyph) is a legal team. It contains his selected Pokemon, and the rest of the team is made up of Pokemon that others have selected.
(Amoonguss / Entei / Slowking / Tangrowth / Audino / Alomomola) is NOT a legal team. Slowking, Tangrowth, Audino, and Alomomola are all disallowed because nobody selected them.
(Pinsir / Entei / Gardevoir / Druddigon / Snover / Sigilyph) is NOT a legal team. Mystery User X MUST include his selected Pokemon Amoonguss on his team.

As they finish their Round 1 matches, the winners post their 2nd selections.

<SilentVerse> I beat Honko thanks to a ridiculous amount of hax as usual. Lilligant.
<complete_legitimacy> I beat Nails. Slowking.
<Molk> I beat Texas. Metang.
<Oglemi> I beat MysteryUserX because this tournament is rigged in favor of the mods. Simisear.

In Round 2, SilentVerse MUST use both Butterfree and Lilligant, and the rest of his team must be made up of Pokemon from the following pool: Sigilyph, Scraggy, Gardevoir, Slowking, Metang, Simisear. The Pokemon that the losers had selected (Druddigon, Entei, Amoonguss, Pinsir) are out of the pool permanently; nobody will be allowed to use them for the rest of the tournament.
