Re-Evolution
reevo banner.png

We all know about Evolution, the Pokémon experiences a change that follows no rules. It may become faster or slower, better or worse at taking hits, become much stronger or stay almost the same, but what would happen if a Pokémon experienced this change but with twice the power?
The main rule:
  • Pokémon gain base stats equal to the difference with their previous stage.
Mechanics Interactions:
  • Only the previous stage is used to calculate the stats gained, Ex: Ludicolo gain 140 BST upon evolving from Lombre, it doesn't gain the difference it has with Lotad.
    re ludicolo.png
  • :Melmetal: For a Pokémon to count as the evolution of another it has to be able to evolve into it in the main line games, Melmetal can't evolve from Meltan and isn't coded as it's evolution in Sword & Shield, meanwhile Alolan-Marowak, despite being unable to evolve from Cubone in Sword & Shield, was able to do so in a previous generation and is therefore boosted.
  • :Accelgor: Base stats cap at 1 and 255.
  • :Avalugg: Because that the Overflow Stat Mod was implemented, any Pokémon's actual stats cap at 654, so be careful to not waste EVs trying to get higher than that.
  • :Aegislash-Blade: Battle only forms take the new stats from the base form and then recieve their regular stats changes, Ex: For Aegislash-Sword, do the math for Shield (61/1/130/55/231/85) then add 90 Atk/Sp.Atk and remove 90 Def/Sp.Def (61/91/40/145/141/85).
Strategy:
This metagame gives major boosts to most Pokémon that are part of an evolution line, introducing all kinds of behemoths with power comparable to and often surpassing the cover legendaries. They should be able to balance each other out enough for different kinds of play styles to exist, from full stall to hyper offense.

Increased Viability:
:noivern::Golisopod: :tsareena: :Gallade: Pokémon with really weak pre-evolutions get massive boosts, many like Tsareena and Gallade get around 200 points, this leave them at around 700 BST, and very few like Golisopod and Noivern can get over 800 BST.

:dragonite: :tyranitar: :garchomp: :metagross: Some already strong Pokémon don't need huge boosts to keep up with the crazy powercreep of this tier, thanks to already high stats all the pseudo-legendaries are now stronger than cover legendaries!

:doublade: :dottler: :Piloswine::magneton: Some middle stage Pokémon receive a bigger bonus than their evolutions, and thanks to Eviolite their defensive power becomes absurd, so keep in mind those who gain huge amounts of defense upon evolving like Doublade and Dottler and those who used to be fully evolved like Piloswine and Magneton.

Decreased Viability:
:Heatran: :Landorus-Therian: :palkia: :zamazenta-crowned: If you aren't a member of an evolution line, then there is nothing I can do for you, most Pokémon without a pre-evolution will have problems trying to keep up with the EXTREME powercreep.

:alakazam: :gengar: :weavile: :scizor: Some Pokémon don't change much upon evolving, some like Alakazam and Gengar have really strong pre-evolutions so the boost they receive isn't that big, this also happens a lot with cross-gen evolutions, for example Weavile only gets a minor boost upon evolving and Scizor stay with the same BST it has in standard play as it gains as much as it loses.

this is a surprising threat tbh. i dont see it being too prevalent due to the lacking spa stat compared to everything else past maybe super fang but it still has a niche thanks to its good bulk paired with its high speed and decent special attack.
also specs boom

:ss/urshifu::ss/urshifu-rapid-strike:
140 HP / 170 Atk / 140 Def / 73 SpA / 70 SpD / 122 Spe

These two are terrifying. at first it may not seem like much, but the power of banded wicked blow / surging strikes + close combat is enough to make them both threats (and ursh-ss in ubers already before the stat buffs as its b tier rn). i expect ursh-ss to do better (ofc) but ursh-rs is still a notable threat imo

:ss/jellicent:
145 HP / 80 Atk / 90 Def / 105 SpA / 125 SpD / 80 Spe

nice typing that pairs greatly with its high hp and spd. it unfortunately lacks solid utility past will-o/scald but nonetheless provides a valuable niche for balance and bulkier teams

Some stuff that might be good

:dragapult::jolteon:The fast bois that don’t have the bulk of Deoxys-A, Jolteon has better Speed and SpAtk, while Dragapult has a bit better bulk and more spammable STAB and can go mixed
:copperajah:Great bulk, 180 Attack+Sheer Force hurts
:darmanitan-galar:Edit 2:Also banned
:gallade:Excellent special bulk with 215 Attack
:zacian:Being let into the meta tentatively, you know what this thing does although it’s 138 speed isn’t that great anymore
:hitmonlee:So imagine if Hawlucha lost the Flying type but got 205 Attack and 139 Speed before Unburden in return. And 65/71/185 bulk

I have been working on this spreadsheet with updated stats for all fully evolved mons and some middle stages, may need to double check some!
Gen 8 Re-Evolution stats

EDIT: Also, after initial responses we decided to quickban some of the mons already on our watchlist, Milotic and Toxapex. Milotic has insane amounts of bulk on top of base 190 special attack, it should be obvious how hard it would be to handle. Meanwhile Toxapex with 50/242/232 bulk would be almost impossible to beat or at least make progress against it.
Updated the watchlist with some more mons too, but until we get the chance to playtest and actually see the powerlevel in action we wont be touching more mons.

115/35/75/220/155/140

Volcarona's already-huge BST boost from Larvesta is actually effectively larger than it seems, because it loses some points in Attack that it wasn't using anyway.

:ss/amoonguss:
159/115/95/115/105/45

With Toxapex banned, there's more competition for the role of a Regenerating Water, Fighting, and Fairy resist that's immune to Toxic, and Amoonguss fills that role quite well.

Battle only forms take the new stats from the base form and then recieve their regular stats changes, Ex: For Aegislash-Sword, do the math for Shield (61/1/130/55/231/85) then add 90 Atk/Sp.Atk and remove 90 Def/Sp.Def (61/91/40/145/141/85).
OM's obsession with turning form changes into numerical stat changes and not the distinct Pokemon they internally are continues.

This looks very cool! My first thought was my fave Milotic, but of course it makes sense to quickban considering it’s new stats are like Primal Kyogre but also a slow pivot and with reliable recovery and better physical bulk. Luckily for me, some of my other faves get big boosts as well.

14A73E82-6F52-4F0E-9D5E-FE59860D7680.png

Stats: 98 / 95 / 95 / 185 / 175 / 110
Rafiel (Gardevoir) (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Mystical Fire / Focus Blast
- Knock-Off / Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave / Healing Wish

Kirlia being ridiculously weak means Gardevoir actually gets workable 98/95 physical bulk and excellent 98/175 special bulk. It also has +55 base special attack and +15 base speed as compared to Tapu Lele. Psychic Terrain means their Psychic moves hit about equally as hard, but Gardevoir’s Moonblasts and coverage moves are significantly stronger. You also get additional utility moves like Healing Wish, Destiny Bond, Knock Off, Thunder Wave, Will-O-Wisp, and Teleport as compared to Tapu Lele. The lack of Psychic Terrain does mean that you’re still more vulnerable to priority moves than Tapu Lele, but, on the plus side, you don’t create any awkward nonbos with priority attackers of your own and the increased physical bulk means you can probably tank a hit anyway. Here are some sets I brainstormed.

1655835853020.png

Stats: 108 / 102 / 110 / 112 / 135 / 134
Ninetales @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Scorching Sands
- Solar Beam

Also, both Ninetales forms now have much more workable 108/110/135 bulk and very decent 112 Special Attack as well as a good amount of extra speed. Notably, Alolatales outpaces Zacian at base 143 speed. I imagine they’ll do the same thing they always do—being Weather setters—but just a bit better.

I have to correct my last post and say we all agreed on banning Darmanitan-galar because they didnt want to let me have fun with it first
There isnt much to explain with this one, it is faster than most of the meta and hits hard enough to 2hko everything that isnt a bulky water without a weakness to one of its coverage moves, and even then stuff like Jellicent may die to a random rock slide flinch or some previous cheap damage.

NGL, initial banlist is a bit harsh; there's no test server up as far as I can see, and being a stat behemoth doesn't fix all of a mon's problems. Frosmoth still is going to look at pokemon like Escav/Ho-oh/to an extent Necro-DM and be unable to reliably bypass them, while still having no recovery. Toxapex has between 45 and 60% more bulk (depending on comparing uninvested and invested stats), but relying on a 62 SpA is gonna be hard, and a lot of mons do legit hit between 45% and 60% harder. Ig my argument here is that beyond Lunala/Solg and maybe Gyara/Volc it may be best to sit and wait with bans.

A new meta, that I can learn from the start rather than meme in the low ladder only because the meta is already solved?
WOAH.
<a href="https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/dragonite">Dragonite

121/184/125/130/130/90

Let's start with my favourite mon.
That speed means that DD is not a set anymore. Luckly I only use Band.

Dragonite @ Choice Band
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Dual Wingbeat
- Earthquake/Thunder Punch/Fire Punch
- Thunder Punch/Earthquake/Fire Punch

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Dual Wingbeat
- Earthquake/Fire Punch/Thunder Punch
- Agility

The first set is a classic band. Usually you come in on something weakened, click Espeed, watch things fall.
The second set is a meme in normal OU i think, but with better defenses this might be less of a meme! Agility means that it can now rival other mons speed. Which is useful. Sadly it's a one time only set, but at the same time 184 Atk means that there is no need to be at +2.
Maybe another set could be scarf, lmao.
EDIT: DD might be viable in Web teams!

Gengar and Weavile are not that much better, if you want to try them they gain like 20/40 points in speed and their respective attacking stats and that's it. Still frail AF. I'll try them nonetheless, especially Gengar, one of my beloved.

<a href="https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/gallade">Gallade

98/215/95/65/175/110

The speed is meh in this new meta. Dies to a lot of physical attacks. Special attacks however are a diffent story and with that attack stat it's going to be COOL.

Gallade (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Zen Headbutt/Fire Punch/Ice Punch/Knock Off/Poison Jab/Stone Edge
- Close Combat

Other options are substitute, Toxic, Taunt, Will-O-Wisp, Triple Axel... I didn't realize it had such a vast movepool! It's worth exploring, albeit it has the same problem as Dragonite, its low speed. That can't even make up for without a scarf.

<a href="https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/zoroark">Zoroark

80/145/80/140/80/145

Frail as heck, but its attacking stats and speed are really good. Illusion is always good too. It has Sword Dance, Toxic, Taunt, Trick, Sucker Punch, Knock Off, Dark Pulse, Sludge Bomb, Nasty Plot, Grass Knot, Focus Blast, Flame Thrower.
A nice mon, choose your coverage depending on what threatens other mons in your team and go ham.

<a href="https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/darmanitan">Darmanitan

140/190/65/45/65/140

This thing is stupidly fast and has a stupidly high attack. Now scarf is not the only option for it to actually hit something first.

Darmanitan @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide/Zen Headbutt/Iron Head
- U-turn

But scarf is still a great choice. This mon is stupid and I'm so going to try it.
It also has a B-Drum set with Berry Juice that can wreak havoc with its newfound speed.
Oh dear.

EDIT: Removed Gyarados because I can't read, but luckly C.A.T. taught me how to. I appreciate.

These are the ones that I searched for yesterday that did stand out.

Last fun fact: when I calculated Milotic's stats I cackled maniacally for a couple minutes. Keep that thing banned or so help me.
175/107/138/190/200/82. LMFAO.

Uh, what's this?

Gyarados @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall

- Crunch

The mon that is going to kill you, this is what this is.
DD is not worth it, like Dragonite. But HECK. This hits HARD. Maybe Band is also viable. In a Z world it learns celebrate.

Great ideas, but Gyarados is currently banned. May try to build with band Dragonite, though!

:ss/volcarona::ss/frosmoth::ss/milotic::ss/toxapex:
This sunday the council will be voting on Volcarona, Frosmoth, Milotic and Toxapex as the format has been playable for a few days now and is now possible to test the format with and without them, we would also like to know what people outside of the council think about these 4 Pokémon so feel free to discuss them here or in the discord. You can also give reasons to free some of the other banned Pokémon so we can have another council vote or suspect test them. As for new bans, they wont happen until some point after we get a ladder, to make sure we understand the tier first and to let more people take part on the decision.

Ferrothorn has always been a beast, but it's actually kind of insane in crossevo. Let's look at it's original stats compared to the new ones.

74/94/131/54/116/20 (base)
104/138/171/84/146/30 (re-evo)

The HP rises up a solid 30 points from an underwhelming 74 to a quite solid 104, which complements the sharply boosted defenses perfectly. 138 attack is far from the strongest thing here, but a Power Whip off of this is certainly not gonna be a weak hit. The only real loss is a very slight decrease in Gyro Ball power, but it's (mostly) negligible. Even in comparison to the insanely boosted stats of the rest of the metagame, it's still able to take insane hits.

(Assume all calculations are done with re-evo stats; Gallade is using it's 215 base attack, etc.)

252 Atk Gallade Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 282-332 (68.4 - 80.5%)

252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 272-322 (66 - 78.1%)

252 SpA Choice Specs Gardevoir Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 84 SpD Ferrothorn: 348-410 (84.4 - 99.5%)

It's not TANKING these hits by any means, but keeping in mind these are some of the most powerful fighting attacks I could think of it's nothing to scoff at. This thing is going to eat neutral hits and weaker coverage for all 3 meals and come back for more. Definitely will have a place on balance, hazards hyperoffense, rain offense, etc.

Still hates fire attacks even in rain though kekw

Another Pokemon that catches my eye, this time on the offensive end, is Azumarill. Azumarill has always been a formidable Pokemon, with its base 50 attack functionally equal to base 150 when maxed out thanks to Huge Power. Its major downside has always been rather average bulk and middling to low speed, and to an extent it’s the same here.

What’s different here, though, is the massive increase in power and above average bulk. So let’s take a look at Azu’s original stats and how they compare to the new stats.

100/50/80/60/80/50 (base)
130/80/110/100/110/60 (re-evo)

This looks relatively fine on paper. 100/80/80 bulk is nothing compared to 130/110/110, but it’s not the bulkiest water around by any means. What really changes the game is Huge Power. Azumarill hits 284 with full investment and an Adamant nature- which is doubled to 568 thanks to its ability. In other words, Azumarill has functionally around 210 base attack, which can be increased via rain, a choice band, or (terrifyingly) access to Belly Drum.

A maxed out Azumarill with full attack investment and a Belly Drum hits 1704 attack. This is, putting it lightly, absolutely goddamn insane. As a bonus, while Azu’s bulk is still average at best, it’s just enough to let it sponge a few neutral hits after a Belly Drum.

It’s truest weakness is, as always, its low speed. This can be remedied via Aqua Jet, Trick Room, Sticky Web, etc. but is still a notable drawback. Another drawback I’ve noticed is that it has pretty strong 4mss; on just the Belly Drum set, it wants Superpower for steels, Play Rough for STAB, Knock Off for Eviolite users and Ghosts, Liquidation for Rain Stab, and Aqua Jet for faster offensive Pokemon. Not enough to ruin it, but a struggle in the teambuilder

All calculations are done with ReEvolution stats– Pelliper has 80/170 physical bulk, Ferrothorn has 104/171, etc.

BDrum Azumarill Calcs:

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper: 456-537 (125.6 - 147.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 804-948 (195.1 - 230%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Doublade: 384-454 (110.9 - 131.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 543-639 (114.5 - 134.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Superpower vs. 252 HP / 168+ Def Corviknight: 458-539 (99.5 - 117.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Ultimately, Azu seems like the perfect thing to slap onto a Rain or Webs team and wreak havoc with. It’s not perfect and has notable drawbacks, but damn if it isn’t absurdly strong.

i looove generation five. thanks to dex trimming i have less guys to go through which means this post is not 100 km long

only going to talk about either #fun gimmick mons or stat walls. hope everyone understands

:bw/musharna:
156 / 85 / 125 / 147 / 135 / 34 / 682
while psychic is certainly Not Great as a defensive typing, musharna has access to cosmic power, stored power, heal bell and moonlight... so...
it also has no really good abilities, with your best option being synchronize to absorb status. it could be worse.

...is this a gimmick???????????????

:bw/excadrill:this is not a gimmick
160 / 185 / 80 / 70 / 85 / 108 / 688
put this in the middle of a sandstorm and tear everything to shreds. ttar and hippowdon are two behemoths so you have no excuse for not doing it!!

:bw/conkeldurr:
125 / 175 / 105 / 70 / 80 / 50 / 605
i put conkeldurr here to direct you towards gallade. use gallade ---> :gallade: its got 215 atk 175 spdef and 115 spe

:bw/seismitoad:
135 / 125 / 95 / 105 / 95 / 79 / 634
if water-types ever become a problem.... go frog!!! jellicent might be better than it, but electric is pretty common in ubers.

:bw/krookodile:
130 / 152 / 115 / 85 / 95 / 110 / 687
you already know: scarf moxie krookodile, snowball, win.

:bw/darmanitan:
140 / 190 / 65 / 45 / 65 / 140 / 645
users above have already talked about darmanitan; 190 atk, you people.

:bw/cofagrigus:
78 / 70 / 205 / 135 / 145 / 30 / 663
205 def.... my god!
this thing is fat. like. really fat. the HP could be better, but pure ghost is quite good and you get rid of abilities with mummy.

:bw/amoonguss:
159 / 115 / 95 / 115 / 105 / 45 / 634
it's... amoonguss. spore, regenerator, yeah. slowbro/slowking/(-galar) are tankier than it in pretty much every occasion, and they all have futureport. so............... umm.......... reevo uu???? omm sweep????

:bw/jellicent: idk how to put girl jellicent here (#girlloss)
145 / 80 / 90 / 105 / 125 / 80 / 625
jellicent is seismitoad for people whose clefable is quagsire.
golisopod has a hard time breaking through this, and it's also got very reliable recovery in strength sap, with 80% of mons having noticeably higher atk.

:bw/ferrothorn:
104 / 138 / 171 / 84 / 146 / 30 / 673
one day i'll pull choice band ferrothorn out of nowhere and some of you are gonna start crying

:bw/chandelure:
60 / 70 / 120 / 195 / 120 / 105 / 670
you better not hit this thing with a fire move because if your resist isn't healthy. then sorry lol
252 SpA Life Orb Flash Fire Chandelure Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 230-270 (32.2 - 37.8%) <--- this is an egg with 255/145 special bulk with +1 spdef..

:bw/mandibuzz:
150 / 75 / 135 / 65 / 125 / 100 / 650
it's ok you people wicked blow does nothing here

:bw/hydreigon:
112 / 125 / 110 / 185 / 110 / 138 / 780
yes this does nothing to a lot of things but its hydreigon ok =]

:bw/swoobat:
69 / 69 / 67 / 99 / 67 / 156 / 527
it's swoobat you people.... there is nothing more to it. i dont think this is particularly good since everyone has 700 bst and this doesnt even break 550 but oh well thats just life isn't it!!

:bw/whimsicott:
80 / 107 / 110 / 117 / 100 / 166 / 680
we all know how annoying whimscott can be in doubles, but it has potential in singles with those fat stats: memento, leech seed, stun spore, sleep powder, encore, taunt, defog, you don't even need to invest that much in spe to do anything.

:bw/lilligant:
95 / 85 / 100 / 150 / 100 / 150 / 680
you know all those BW guides that tell you how to solo the game with an own tempo lilligant thanks to the very balanced quiver dance? yeah. yeah this is me recreating that. qd / giga drain or energy ball / sleep powder / pollenpuff. who needs hidden power lol??????

:bw/zoroark:
80 / 145 / 80 / 160 / 80 / 145 / 690
it's zoroark. never forget how gimmicks move the world around. remember when pokemon didn't have team preview???

:bw/vanilluxe:
91 / 125 / 105 / 140 / 115 / 99 / 675
vanilluxe is here because hail, in general, is a gimmick. it's bad. it's... brutal out here!!

:bw/escavalier:
90 / 195 / 165 / 80 / 165 / 1 / 696
1 speed....... brazil, i'm devastated
trick room IS a gimmick no matter what the media tells you. so it goes here. as it deserves.

:bw/accelgor:
110 / 100 / 1 / 160 / 55 / 255 / 681
1 def................. no words.
final gambit, anyone?????

i would use 1 maybe 2 pokemon tops out of all the besties i've listed. however, i finished writing this at 3 am so !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
