Without further ado, this week's subject is...

Mesprit! Mesprit's movepool, typing, stats, and ability make it an extremely versatile and unpredictable threat extremely easy to slap onto most teams! Its defensive set make for a formidable check to threats like Gurdurr and Stealth Rock user while its Calm Mind set has seen extremely good results in PUPL. Albeit not seen as often, its offensive Stealth Rocks set, SubCM set, Choice Scarf set, and its Choice Specs set are all extremely good ones, and on teams based on weather, it works as a good Stealth Rock and weather setter. It isn't hard to see why Mesprit is considered the best Pokémon in PU! However, it still has some hidden potential and sets, with an example of this being Calm Mind Mesprit now using Dazzling Gleam and Hidden Power Fighting as coverage options, or even Z-Ice Beam. Have fun and good luck!!

IVs: 0 Atk

pretty standard set but running Signal Beam over Dazzling Gleam punishes opposing mespirts/psychics while still hitting darks hard like Guzzlord.

Hey everyone, this is my first actual post with substance on the forums, I hope to continue discussing the meta and enjoying the game with everyone :)

Mesprit @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Imprison
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Psychic

In a meta where Mesprit is the most common pokemon in the tier, it is always good to have good counterplay to it. In fact, Mesprit was used on 67% of teams weeks 1 and 2, and on 77% of teams for week 3 of PUPL. Two other prominent stealth rockers in the tier, Mudsdale and Regirock also have had high usage in PUPL so far, and have high usage on the ladder as well. Because of this, Imprison could be a very strong choice to use instead of healing wish on defensive mesprit sets. Imprison prevents the opponent from using moves that also belong to the user, so against other mesprit they will not be able to set stealth rock or u-turn out. the 20 ev's in speed are there to speed creep on the standard 16 speed mesprits running around, however if you want more confidence in outspeeding bulky mesprits you can creep a little more. Mesprit can stay in against most mudsdale and regirock relatively safely, allowing it to block rocks from them as well.

It should be noted that offensive mesprit will outspeed and set up rocks before you can use imprison, so it is important to look at team preview and make a judgement call on whether you think it is speedy or bulky mesprit. Either way it isn't detrimental to use imprison on a speedy mesprit at the least you block their u-turn and know they will probably switch out the next turn. This Mesprit would be best used on teams that rely heavily on having rocks off the field, being a secondary deterrent of them for your team, as well as being a solid counter to your opponent's bulky mesprit throughout the match. In teams where the supplemental force against stealth rocks is not necessary, I would stick with the standard set which uses 16 speed evs and healing wish.

Overall, this is a solid option if you are using mesprit and want extra deterrents to stealth rock for teammates like dodrio, scyther, froslass, etc., and will be relevant in many matches considering the high usage of these stealth rock users.

Mesprit @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Hidden Power [Ground] / Hidden Power [Fighting]
- U-turn

This set forgoes the usual support that Mesprit provides in Stealth Rock and Healing Wish and instead goes for an all-out offensive set, maximizing its coverage for the PU tier. This set is vey similar to a classic Calm Mind set as well, but instead offers the momentum of U-turn rather than setting up. The item could be changed to Z crystal or even Life Orb, though this set allows you to run another Z move user while having some more power but not taking away from Mesprit's decent natural bulk by wearing it down with Life Orb chip. The moves allow it to utilize its Psychic type STAB, while hitting Dark and Steel types with its other coverage. HP Ground hits Skuntank harder and 2HKOs offensive Alolan Sandslash but HP Fighting can be used to give Mes a good chance of OHKOing even SpDef variants after rocks.

Sub-Charge Beam
Mesprit @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Charge Beam
- Calm Mind
- Dazzling Gleam/Psychic

This set allows Mesprit to slowly boost up and take control of the battlefield, allowing it to slowly but surely become a threatening force, especially against more defensive Pokemon. Substitute allows Mesprit to slowly gather boosts against many of the tiers stall teams, while Charge Beam and Calm Mind allow for maximum bulk shenanigans. Aguav Berry allows Mesprit to heal once, which prevents it from easily being worn down. The last slot is a bit up for debate; Psychic is obviously STAB, but the coverage provided by Charge Beam and Psychic is pretty balky, so Dazzling Gleam is another option that actually allows this Mesprit to threaten Guzzlord in particular. Definitely a tough set to use, but slowly building up to a monster is quite fun.

Mesprit @ Normalium Z
Ability: Levitate
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swagger
- Psych Up
- Zen Headbutt
- Frustration / Facade

Mesprit is good lure for spdef walls and gives opportunity often to click "safe" swagger and boost your opponent and on very next turn allowing you to copy this yummy boost. Z-Normalium is there to either way restore your health back to full with psych-up or to nuke stuff with +2 frustration/facade.

Mesprit @ Choice Band
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Zen Headbutt
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Healing Wish

I really like physical Mesprit, you don't often see a Pokémon who can use both u-turn and knock off while having a good 105 base attack, decent speed and great bulk. It's true, those aren't stabs, but you don't share the big weaknesses of those typings either, notably to SR for bugs(even x4 sometimes) and to fighting for dark types.
Back to the set, Zen Headbutt is your main stab for good dmg and then you have the fourth slot, you can stuff many different things there: elemental punches if you want more coverage, trick to lock someone with your band (but i don't really like it with Knock Off), even magic coat and toxic can be useful, but imho Healing Wish is the best choice, expecially if you don't have a wisher in your team.

Double Screens Mesprit

Mesprit @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Future Sight
- U-turn
- Reflect
- Light Screen

General idea

When you have such a deep movepool, you can choose whatever role you want.
I think that both Screens are perfect for this bulky monster, especially alongside U-turn (to keep momentum) and Light Clay to support your teammates.
284 Spe points are enough to have a fast U-turn towards bulky teams whereas you should be able to tank a hit and have a slow U-turn.
Future Sight is the hidden gem of this set: you can use this move even on a predicted Dark-type pokemon switch-in and you are able to switch-out in order to scare the opponent immune to Future Sight with a Fightning/Bug-type pokemon.

EVs (spread) and item
248 HP EVs allows Mesprit to reach odd HP in order to switch in&out from Stealth Rocks one more time and now Mesprit has even more bulk at its disposal.
252+ Spe EVs are here in order to use reliably fast screens.
Light Clay is picked over Leftovers because it has much more utility with both Screens in this moveset and can save more HP than Lefties if we are able to be covered under the right Screen.

Teammates support
This Mesprit is not meant to sweep teams alone, but it is excellent as support for other teammates and you still need something to threaten Dark types with Pursuit.

INSANE CARZY GUY

Banned deucer.
Yo if You wanna get extra nasty and anti lead every threat not 80+ (cough cough scarf Toucannon cough have another answer for qwilfish) oh girl do I have a set for You

Mesprit Rocky helmet/Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Imprison
- U-turn
- stealth rock
-Thunder wave/knock off/ filler

Imprison prevents whatever You like in this fat movepool "IF" You're willing to give up psychic coverage and run max speed which is definitely a commitment. However being able to remove Your weaknesses and be able to confirm Your switch in can be hit or crippled by _______ is stupidity handy. Man it'd be a shame to u-turn into my banded syther and not have to worry about u-turn, rocks and one other move? Yeah sign me up!

Now this does not prevent Z-moves and can risk speed ties(think about building around that information) and losing to scarf rockers but generally speaking that's really, really, rare in my own experience and is my favorite set after scarf(sry specs)

It's a great way to blow up low ladder players trying to run trash like shuckle and chip out lead ape, get rocks and end volt turn cores turn 2

:EDIT for mods
Ahhh, didn't preview the other mesprite sets cause I've been using this one, idk it's fair to have mime plus literally the first mes set seeing how I said the fundamental point of this set was giving up psychic coverage and being max speed and offered different options and etc. But either way i've been playing this set forever swearing by it and swagger facade will get my vote

Mesprit @ Metronome
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

So my idea with that set is to break Stall without a Z-Move as good as possible. You break through Audino and Quagsire just by spamming Psychic at +1. After Rocks you can even kill Skuntank with two Dazzling Gleams. If you want to nuke the likes of Eel, Articuno or Audino better you can run Psyshock as well!
The rest is pretty standard but thanks to Metronome it's fun to use at the same time!
