As our fighters square up onto the arena, the air is filled with a playful tension. I say this only because the two actual fighters, Garet and Uncapped, are carrying their respective Kakuna partners on their backs. Is this really a double battle? Oh well. I'm going to affectionately call it "Kakuna Babysitter" format.

Florina's team has the speed advantage, and good for them, as P2X7's orders would have demolished them otherwise with potential flinches. Uncapped throws Involvus like a throwing knife, allowing the little cocoon to use its Direct Poison Sting attack, which glances off Garet's armor. But, the venom in the sting must have seeped in, because Garet is looking much worse for wear, having contracted the poison! The Kakuna bounces rigidly off of the Flarelm, and Uncapped catches him like a boomerang before using a mystical Rain Dance to flood the arena with rain! Fire-type attacks aren't looking so hot, now, are they? Garet seemed to enjoy the idea of using his Kakuna as a weapon, too, so with another Direct Poison Sting primed, the Flarelm shoots d'Artagnan out of one of his cannons! The attack gives Uncapped a nasty prick, but nothing much else. After masterfully catching the Kakuna, Garet tears up the ground with a burst of energy and hurls the Rock Slide at his opponents for some decent spread damage.

Seeing as how Kakuna realistically only has one move (hint: it's Direct Poison Sting), that's what we'll be seeing for the majority of this battle, though I applaud the creativity of the older Pokemon throwing these Kakuna around like that. I sure hope it doesn't impact their development. Uncapped sends out some wacky pheromones in a cloud of Struggle Bug, dealing so-so damage to both of P2X7's Pokemon, but also lowering their Special Attack in the process. d'Artagnan's second Direct Poison Sting hits its mark, which unfortunately activates Uncapped's Poison Heal, making the snail even tougher than before. Another uneventful Rock Slide stacks more damage onto Florina's team, leaving everyone astonishingly even, save Involvus, who's been hit with a few too many rocks for his liking.

What could we possibly see next? More Direct Poison Stings? Probably! I hope they do some sword-fighting with the Kakuna next time, that'd be fun to watch.

Now that the battlers have been needlessly drenched by all of the rain, it's time for the real battle to begin. With Fire-type moves cut down to size, Florina's team doesn't really have to worry about Flarelm anymore. Will that be the case? Will these Special Attack drops actually matter? Looks like the orders are coming in now...

Well, I'll be, Kakuna does have more than one move! Still doesn't get around the fact that it can't move, but whatever. Uncapped tosses Involvus around again, this time head-first, so that he can--ow--smash into Garet's armor and chomp down with a Bug Bite...wait, Kakuna has a mouth? Have I been living a lie? Either way, there's no berries to eat, and it does the same amount of damage as Direct Poison Sting would have done, but...eh, what do I know. Uncapped quickly follows up, grabbing Involvus from his resting place in the mud before shooting a salty stream of Brine straight at Garet! With the rain boosting its power, we're finally getting somewhere. d'Artagnan decides to Bug Bite as well, to save energy, I suppose. At least we get to see more Kakunas being fired out of cannons. The attack is fairly pitiful against Coribalis' bulk though. While Uncapped is distracted shaking d'Artagnan off of him, Garet loads his cannons with Bullet Seed, getting three solid shots in.

Looks like the battlers took my advice from last round! Garet and Uncapped handle their Kakuna pals like swords and advance towards each other, the mud keeping their movements slow and calculated. Uncapped wields Involvus to strike with another Direct Poison Sting, doing just enough to send Garet down just below half HP. This, of course, means the follow-up Brine from Uncapped is supercharged, probably filled with all of the salt from every single missed crit so far due to Battle Armor. Regardless, this is the first attack to connect to do significant damage! Took you kids long enough! Garet, very much not pleased by this extra salty damage, stabs d'Artagnan into Uncapped, with a Direct Poison Sting that actually crits. The ground might be muddy, but that doesn't mean there aren't rocks to dig up! Garet shoots d'Artagnan straight up into the air, tears up the ground with Rock Slide, throws them into Florina's team, and catches the Kakuna in one fluid motion. Get these two into a Pokemon contest, guys!

As the curtain closes on this round, the differential is very obvious. Garet has taken a ton of damage, while Uncapped's Poison Heal has been keeping him relatively healthy. At least d'Artagnan is healthier than Involvus is!

The rain continues to fall...is what the cartridge would say! Frankly, I'm a little worried for the two Kakuna being thrown around in the rain like this. Aren't cocoons just shells with a bunch of genetic mush in them? Are they waterproof? Eugh, I don't want to think about this anymore...

Garet really isn't looking so hot. Not just because the rain is dousing Fire-type moves, but also due to the relentless attacks being thrown his way. It's understandable, then, that he would try to Protect himself against attacks, using Florina's subs against her to try and set up for a different play down the line. Involvus, getting ready for another nasty Bug Bite, switches targets, or, I should say Uncapped changes targets, since he's the one throwing Involvus around to attack with. The two Kakunas clang together, and d'Artagnan takes a bit of damage. Seemingly out of salt for now, Uncapped uses his great mental to throw d'Artagnan with Psychic force, dealing heavy damage. Garet rushes over to pick his Kakuna partner up, now that Florina's team has moved; d'Artagnan shoots a shocking Electroweb at his two opponents, doing pitiful damage, but lowering their Speed.

This is where P2X7's last-ditch strategy comes into play! Now that d'Artagnan and Garet are both faster, the initiative falls to them. d'Artagnan goes in for a Bug Bite after a handy toss from Garet, doing minimal damage. Garet cracks up the muddy ground in what could be his last Rock Slide before slamming the opposing team with boulders! Will Florina's team flinch? Can P2X7 turn this around with some last-minute hax?

...No. Neither of them flinch. Involvus gets in one last Direct Poison Sting, and Uncapped blasts Garet with some renewed salt in a nasty, powered-up Brine that seals his fate. The Flarelm collapses into the mud, KO'd. Both Kakunas look pretty beat up, but Uncapped is looking nearly the same as before this round started, thanks to Poison Heal. Now two against one, d'Artagnan has one hell of a hill to climb.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but d'Artagnan has no hope this round. Even with the speed advantage, Coribalis outclasses Kakuna in literally every way. All I'm hoping for is that Uncapped and Involvus are merciful.

Now that any and all danger to Uncapped has been removed, he's looking pretty complacent. He's so confident, in fact, that he kind of just...lobs Involvus into d'Artagnan, nonchalantly, and watches them fight for a while. d'Artagnan Bug Bites Involvus, and Involvus Bug Bites back, exchanging weak damage for weak damage. With the fun coming to an end, Uncapped resumes his role as a chaperone and smashes d'Artagnan around with Psychic energy, though he makes sure to levitate the red Kakuna back into melee range so that Involvus can keep biting.

After some more terrifyingly boring Bug Bite action from both Kakunas, Uncapped finishes the job with one last salty Brine, and d'Artagnan goes out the same way Garet did. With both Pokemon still standing, Florina Liastacia is the victor!
