OU Teambuilding Competition V9 (that many?!)
So yeah. Not much else to say here besides that AM is on a hiatus and Ill be your official sponsor on this. Lets get down to business.

Rules:

1.
Entry submission: Post team in the thread itself with import and explanation in hide tags.
2. Disputes / Copying: Obviously, there is potential for disputes over copying or people making similar entries. In general, if your team entry has the same Pokémon and similar move sets to an earlier entry, it will be disqualified. If anyone tries to abuse this by reserving an early post in the thread for their entry, please bring it to my attention and they'll be disqualified. If you are caught doing this there is a high possibility you will not be allowed to post in the building stage for an indefinite amount of time.
3. Discussion and team changes: One part of the process is to have discussion about the teams and the core. While I'd like to keep this from being a speedy RMT thread, suggestions of improvements to entered teams are allowed. In the interests of fairness though, I'd ask that any suggestions don't involve anything more major than move set changes, and that if you've already submitted a team you won't change the Pokémon in it. Basically, just be sure that you're happy with the team before you send it in.
4. No bandwagonning: Please do a favor to me, and yourself, and dont post for whatever team where you recognize the name of the poster or if he has a shiny trophy or whatever. Vote for who you want to win, not who your friend wants you to vote for. I would appreciate it. Obviously it'll be hard to enforce this, but please use some common sense.
5. Make sure that the teams you post are for the core that I post. Isnt that hard to read.

Here is an example of the format you will be posting in this thread. Just for formality sake and because otherwise I may as well reject the team if it doesnt follow the format. Ok, here goes:

Credit to the team goes to Tokyo Tom

This is a team I made originally for the Mawilite Suspect Ladder, revolving around Mienshao to scout items and beat common leads at the time (such as SashMamo, Breloom, SashChomp, or SR setters like Landorus-T and Ferro etc.), and Charizard-X which is probably the most broken Mega left in XY OU. HP Ice Mienshao and EQ Latios pushed significant damage on DD Zard-X's premier counters, Landorus-T and Heatran, opening the way for Zard-X to potentially sweep lategame. Additionally, the core of Mienshao / SpexKou / ScarfLando-T offered a fast VoltTurn chain that could easily break down the opponents checks with very little prediction and Stealth Rock support from one of the sturdiest SR setters in the game, Ferrothorn. The concept began as a fun team but the team did see some success as Ben Gay used it to peak #1 on the Mawilite Suspect Ladder, and was one of the teams he used to peak #1 more recently on the actual OU ladder, during the first cycle of the Smogon Ladder Tournament. Overall, a neat little offensive team focused on luring threats and keeping momentum to wear down the opponent, opening them up for almost any of the Pokemon to clean up lategame.

Team 1

Nice bulky core here, gives quite a bit of problems for balance teams to handle. I started by adding Heatran to the core, which I knew would work well here. I went on to add Keldeo to help with things like Bisharp and Tyranitar, then added a Gengar to help with stall teams, and rounded off with Raikou for momentum and not lose automatically to Electrics, as Mega Latias alone could get worn down very very easily. I replaced Raikou with Rotom-W after some testing, as I thought that the team was way too weak to Sand teams. With Rotom-W, the build seemed to be tending towards a more balanced build. It was also very very weak to Mega Metagross. As such, I decided to replace Gengar with Gourgeist-XL, a very niche choice. With the addition of Gourgeist-XL, I decided to try replacing Keldeo with Tyranitar to break stall teams as well as Pursuit trap things like Hoopa-U which if given multiple switch ins would get a kill every time. At this point, I was mostly done with the build. However, the team was very weak to things like Bisharp and Charizard-X. A ground type was needed, but I liked that Rock typing, as Rotom-W alone gets worn down by Mega Pinsir, especially as I don't have recovery outside of Leftovers. I decided against Hippowdon, and went with Rhyperior because it looked better, and just stopped physical threats better.

Choice Scarf Heatran was chosen, as I needed some form of speed control on such a slow team. Rhyperior has Toxic for Azumarill, which is pretty dangerous, as Gourgeist-XL cannot outspeed unless I drop tons of bulk, and I only have Rotom-W, so I wanted to be able to lure it. The team basically aims to spread status and eventually set up with Mega Latias. I know that Gourgeist-XL without spikes is very weird - I heavily considered some other options, like Chesnaught (thanks SunnyORAS), Klefki, etc - but I didn't like it after testing it.

- Latias CM stored power is so cool and works really well with his bulk and cool speed. Tbolt for general coverage and megaGyara. Max def to be surprinsingly bulky+takes better pursuit.
- Togekiss NP to break stall.
- Ferrothorn to have a dragon/fairy/steel core because it sounds cool. Twave to support team (mainly togekiss air slashes) and cripple really annoying mons for the team like megaZam.
- Keldeo restalk to counter dark spam (mainly weavile and bisharp who run through the team without keldeo).
- Tyranitar scarf for some annoying birds mainly.
- Excadrill to have hazard control + better speed control + he's a cool mon with all those scars.

I thought with something like Mega Latias+Togekiss, the obvious way to go would be spike stacking balance.Hippowdon, and Ferrothorn get hazards on to the field, while Togekiss breaks stall with the NP/Air Slash/Bell set, while the Thunder Wave/Stun Spore spam from Rotom-W/MLatias/Ferrothorn cripple offensive teams, which allows Togekiss at some point to put in work even versus those squads. Keldeo, is just here so that I'd have something fast, that's able to exploit the hazards that have been laid on the field and the fact that it gives me an extra sharp check so that Hippowdon isn't overly pressured really helps. The team basically has ways to deal with most play styles, but does have trouble have trouble with some balance breakers like KyuB,MCross, and MMedi. The status spam also helps Keldeo just rip into teams, that have been chipped away at enough.

Team 4

So first off i have the core M-Latias + Togekiss then i wanted to cover its weaknesses by adding good teammates. First off was Keldeo because it can switch into Bisharp , Weavile and its stabs Steel , Ice , and Dark which gives this core trouble. Then Stuff like Talonflame, Clefable , Gardevior, M-Venusaur, etc Give this team trouble so i thought heatran would a perfect pokemon to help the team out resisting Fairy , Poison, Flying , Grass , Fire , Ice, etc. this also gives us our rocks. next was Gliscor because i needed something that can help vs stall and a bulky ground with recovery. Gliscor fits this perfectly. Next up is Ferrothorn. i wanted another water resist and spikes along with Utility. and another steel because those fairy and psychc types can get out of hand lol. next i will explain the sets

Mega-Latias has its CM Bolt-Beam set which has great coverage. Timid Nature . 248 HP ,68 Def , and 192 Speed to outspeed max speed garchomp.
Next is Togekiss. I chose to run a defog set because hazards on my side can be hurtful to my team and pressure me. I don't think a nasty plot set is needed because my SD Gliscor + Support + Hazards from my team members already can handle fat teams. Bold Nature. 248 HP, 240 Def, 20 speed to not get 2 hit ko'ed by latios's Psyshock even after rocks. 252 SpA Life Orb Latios Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 240+ Def Togekiss: 129-152 (34.5 - 40.7%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery. And 20 speed ev's to outspeed M-Venusaur if needed.
Next is Keldeo which is our Dark , Steel , Ice Resistance pokemon. and speed control pokemon being able to outspeed a lot of the meta with its scarf. I Choose the scarf set because this team lacked speed which was bad so i put a scarf on to outspeed pokemon that danger this team and could late game sweep.
Next up is Heatran. its SpD Set fits on this team being able to put on rocks, switch into Talonflame, Ferrothorn , Clefable , and M-Venusaur pretty safely while being able to toxic and taunt stuff and burn pokemon with lava plume. Next is Gliscor with EQ , Roost , SD , and Stone egde. This SD set can be very good vs certain balance and stall teams and being a status absorber. Stone edge can catch people off guard when they think their Talonflame, Togekiss etc are safe and you just surprise them with those flying stones. Last is Ferrothorn for the support. Leech seed for recovery , Spikes, Knock Off to take away a pokemon's Item, and Gyro Ball

This team has 3 win conditions. Set up hazards. Weaken the other teams pokemon then Late Game Sweep with CM M-Latias or Scarf keldeo or win with Gliscor.

Wanted to say that if celticpride unlocks the v8 thread for a little bit, you can try to "reply" to the OP or "hall of fame posts" and then copy everything that appears inbetween the quote thingie, it might be preferable to quickly transfer everything that way and mark it out as being part of the 8th edition of this since we're in the middle of a round? :D

I'm having a tough time deciding between teams 2 and 4. They both seem like the most solid ones of the 4 for this round. Team 4 seems like it has more outs to deal with major threats to its team, but it also has a few more situations (in comparison to team 2 or just any optimal team i guess) where you can handle things, but in an unsatisfactory manner (such as bisharp or weavile, which may necessitate keld losing its scarf, or tornadus-t, which may necessitate pivoting around it and trying to lure it with an edge from glisc or something). Team 2 seems week to opposing driller and some other stuff but the solid sand core + keld + ferro and then the defensive prowess of mlati and toge makes me feel like the perceived threats to the team are really not that bad as they seem on paper.

I'm gonna go with team 4 just because it still seems good while also being a bit more creative and having a few useful tricks and ways to win.

I'm quite disappointed at the utter lack of checks to Mega Metagross

I'll play around a bit later and see how the teams work, but I am not particularly impressed. Kyurem-B also looks problematic for every team but I guess that's to be expected from this core.

it doesn't take nearly as long as you think. in fact, here. i took the liberty of, like, half an hour to copy and brush up the Hall of Fame from the last thread. post it in bbcode editor, not rich text editor, by the way. http://pastebin.com/ZMNKzgFr

and for good measure, voting Team 4

Erm I'm not one to nitpick stuff usually but there are plenty of Mega Metagross checks here. There's a Gourgeist, 2 Chople + T-Wave Ferrothorns, a Hippowdon (beating non GK variants) and Rotom-W as well as Scarf Heatran which are certainly checks. Agreed about Kyu-B I guess, Ferro's one of the better checks to it, but yeah Clefable's not fitting onto any of these teams when Togekiss is in the core.

Gonna go with Team 4

This is my take on an MChomp+Hippo team. I have hazards outta the wazoo, and a Bisharp+Starmie to control the hazards game. Chople Ferro is a lure to check MVoir better and eliminate Keldeo which is a pain for Bisharp to deal with otherwise, while the Garchomp set is a neat bit of innovation that can bluff a Mix'd set and then go to town late game after its check have been weakened enough. Lum Berry on Bisharp is to help me setup/kill Mew if it is in on Sharp and decides to be cute and WoW me,the Talonflame here is a really solid glue, holding everything together, checking ZardY,Gengar,Lando-I and various other things that the rest of the team doesn't want to deal with,Chople Ferro also lets me stay in stuff like MVoir and other stuff that normally really threatens balance. Starmie is obviously here for Rapid Spin, but also serves a role on the team as my second Keldeo,I obviously need to have a secondary Keldeo check in case of facing Keldeo+Pursuit builds hence the Chople Ferrothorn. This team thrives on whittling down threats into range for SD Garchomp which is a terrific late game sweeper, especially with the help of hazards which this team adequately provides.

This team thrives on controlling hazards be it through Bisharp or via Rapid Spin with Starmie,so it becomes quickly apparent that MSableye can be a pain for this team and to a lesser extent MDiancie. MSableye is taken care of by Bulk Up Talonflame, while Mixed Defensive Hippowdon, and Ferrothorn check MDiancie reasonably well. Sand Force Mega Garchomp needs very little help to plough through opposing teams, especially after an SD,but there will be times when it is to your adavantage to remain to not Mega Evolve to take advantage of base form Garchomp's higher base speed,so be sure to keep that in mind. Remember Mega Garchomp in the back is your wincon versus bulkier teams,so be sure not to let it get too weakened early game, Smooth Rock Hippowdon is also an option to give Mega Garchomp more turns to mess with the opponents team, but seeing as how its supposed to sweep late game I felt that Leftovers' passive recovery would be of more use to this team.

Picked MegaScep (don't ask me why). MegaScep & Gyara are friends 4 life, since the first can easily dispatch those bulky waters, pesky electrics or physical walls who hinder a Gyara sweep, while the latter can sub vs special walls and just punch holes after a couple of DDs. Rocky Helmet Lando was added 'cause it forms a nice double Intimidate core with Gyara + all the good things the standard Rocks set does. AV Meta joined the party since Clef/Fairies in general are a big problem and I needed to at least check a portion of the specially offensive spectrum of the metagame. Hazards suck so I threw in Offensive Starmie who btw also lures Ferro and Scizor with HP Fire (they would otherwise be a pretty big pain in the ass). Talon rounds up everything and is another wincon, also forming a nice specially defensive core with Meta and providing the team with some always useful priority.

This is a team I made really quickly because a friend of me wanted to play with SubCM Chandelure and Mega Sceptile fit pretty well in the end. SubCM Chandelure + BD Azu was the core the team started with. Chandelure has a really easy time against bulky teams but against offensive teams it lacks the speed and common pokemon like Tyranitar can beat it pretty easily. BD Azumarill takes advantage of a choice locked Tyranitar, while also providing strong priority to help against threats such as Excadrill and Weavile. Jolly Knock Off Azu beats many common checks like Rotom-W and Amoonguss and the only pokemon that really take a hit is Mega Venusaur, which still takes 80% if offensive, and is setupfodder for Chandelure if defensive.
Tyranitar + Excadrill is a standard offensive core which provides hazard control and a way to beat threats such as Clefable, Latios and offensive electric types. Team was pretty Bisharp weak but I didn't see a really reliable way to deal with it that fit in the team at the moment so I went a bit more gimmicky and used Aura Sphere Togekiss in order to lure in Bisharp. It also does a lot do Excadrill, Heatran and Tyranitar. 200 HP is enough to survive a +2 Sucker Punch from Bisharp after you switched in with Stealth Rock up twice. Finally Sceptile was added to help break bulky water types and revengekill pokemon like Manaphy, Mega Medicham and Kyurem-B.
Team did pretty well when tested (9-0 on midladder and challenges). Threats are the same threats standard offense struggles with but I have ways to deal with all of the threats in some way:
- Excadrill. If Adamant, Excadrill outspeeds and OHKO's. Sceptile can take a hit against Balloon sets and Azu can revengekill with Aqua Jet (does around 70%)
- Bisharp. It only gets setup opportunities against Tyranitar and even after it has set up it has to deal with Togekiss. Chandelure and Sceptile (if sub) can play mindgames and Excadrill can take an unboosted Sucker Punch
- Water types. No real switchins to water types (surprise surprise @ offensive team) Rotom-W is annoying but is stopped after Mega Sceptile Mega Evo'd and can also be worn down by Togekiss and Chandelure and lured in by Jolly Azumarill. Ice Beam Manaphy is annoying but just play careful with Sceptile, Azumarill and Excadrill and you can deal with it. Same with Azumarill and Keldeo kinda.
- Mega Lopunny. Again no real switchins but Azumarill, Togekiss, Excadrill and MSceptile win 1v1.

While there are some big threats to the team, none of them will win by matchup. Hazards, sand damage, priority and high speed from Excadrill and Mega Sceptile help beat most offensive threats.

If you have any ways of improving this team without removing many things please let me know after this round ends.

someone already beat me to the megachomp team, but i'll post mine. not a lot to say about the build honestly, it's just really generic megachomp sand. anyway, i feel megachomper is incredibly underrated as a breaker, thing cuts through so many teams once sand is up and it's fairly bulky so its living a bunch of attacks that would kill regular chomp, especially after lo recoil and all that. so yeah, solid breaker, best to pair with ttar and exca which just lets you cover most playstyles with garchomp and exca overwhelming stuff like lando-t for exca to run wild and break offense while garchomp breaks balance and stall pretty well. amoonguss is an incredible mon on sand, checks a ton of threatening mons in rotom, keld, azu, loom. it's so good. latios helps with zard y and annoying things like venu and helps ease pressure off amoonguss when it comes to keldeo and stuff. scarf keldeo was a nice fit because it helps v darks and ive got pursuit support so yeah. i think this team is pretty solid, it's picked up a grand total of 2 wins so far in ost so its gotta be good.

You have 15 minutes from this post (as in do it fast)

And please, just be sure that you're happy with the team before you send it in. Im gonna be more lenient this first round but hope it doesnt become the standard behavior on future rounds.

This is a pretty solid hazard stacking build made around an interesting mon in mega fabio. Fabio is so nice since it can check so many threats to common stall builds like mpinsir, zardy, and LO tornt. It also is a pretty solid pivot with volt switch that can get in other mons. Skarm is my primary check to faries like garde, diancie, and clef while also providing a valuable mon to beat physical attackers like weavile and ttar, and it can shuffle around the opposing team to rack up damage as well as stack up spikes to make grounded mons get worn down quickly. Clef is a solid wincon that provides a secondary weavile check as well as a check to kyub and mhera among other threats to stall. Talonflame is a secondary check to fairies as well as stuff like msab and LO serp that threatened the team, and it provided a secondary wincon with bulk up. Tentacruel was the obligatory hazard removal on the talon build, and it was a nice manaphy check for the team. Mirror coat is a cool move to lure in manaphy and kill it. This set is EV'd to tank a +3 psychic 100% of the time and respond with mirror coat. Lastly, hippo is a nice check for elecs and talon among other mons that can trouble these kinds of builds, and it provides a secondary shuffler with whirlwind that can further wear down the opposing team.
