Tyranitar @ Life Orb
Adamant Nature
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
- Rock Slide
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Fire Punch

Tyranitar is a strong check to Blacephalon, as it is never OHKOed by any attack, while it can OHKO back with any of its STABs. Tyranitar still can't really switch in though, as Mind Blown is nearly always a 2HKO and if Blace subs on the switch it can 2HKO with Mind Blown.

252+ Atk Life Orb Tyranitar Pursuit (40 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Blacephalon: 354-421 (143.3 - 170.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Mind Blown vs. 88 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar: 178-211 (49 - 58.1%) -- 96.9% chance to 2HKO

Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
- Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor / Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
- Thunderbolt / Dragon Tail
- Dragon Tail / Fire Blast

Regen Goodra is a niche counter that is still capable of stopping Blacephalon despite hated to lose its Assault Vest, thanks to its huge special bulk and a Fire-resistance. Because of its already high Special Defense stat, Goodra can potentially allocate its EVs to its Special Attack stat to become a decent offensive tank.

252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Goodra: 133-157 (34.6 - 40.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

0 Atk Goodra Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Blacephalon: 268-316 (108.5 - 127.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

This is a bit of a weird one but it honestly can take on so many of the great special attackers in the meta and this mag is no exception. Probably one of the most comfortable switchins to any special move that isn't coming from xurkitree. Also works as a status and knock off absorber.

200 SpA Magearna Twinkle Tackle (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Milotic: 189-223 (47.9 - 56.5%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO after Poison Heal

Just can't switch into Knock Off before being poisoned, shouldn't be hard to find opportunities. It beats it every single time, even without Toxic Orb though you obviously don't want that. Also beats CM variants.

Nihilego @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Power Gem
- Clear Smog
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb

Regenvest Nihilego can tank anything Blacephalon throws at it besides Psyshock and avoid the 2hko (Psyshock OHKOs) while it still has its vest. Without its vest the set listed still can't 2hko it and dies in one hit back, although Hidden Power Ground becomes a 2hko.

0 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Blacephalon: 254-302 (102.8 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Mind Blown vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Nihilego: 70-83 (16.5 - 19.6%) -- possible 6HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Nihilego: 75-91 (17.7 - 21.5%) -- possible 5HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Nihilego: 113-134 (26.7 - 31.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Nihilego: 151-182 (35.7 - 43.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Nihilego: 229-270 (54.2 - 63.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Just a little warning, I'm not positive I got the set quite right, so feel free to correct me on what Regenerator Nihilego usually runs. Either way, it still counters this Blacephalon set.

T H I C C (Mandibuzz) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 SpD
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Knock Off
- Defog
- U-turn

Mandibuzz provides a useful mixed wall and utility mon, with the ability to remove items, defog and spread status (although no toxic here) as well as being a useful defensive pivot with U-turn and can potentially run Taunt to help wear down defensive pokemon by limiting recovery and stop more hazards/stat boosts etc. Outside of checking Blacephon, Mandibuzz can also check various threats such as Mamoswine and provides a useful Ground immunity. Unfortunately Mandibuzz can potentially be 2hkoed after stealth rock if Leftovers is removed or after other chip but a more SpDef heavy set could be run to avoid this at the expense of physical threats, however as such Mandibuzz is at best a solid check rather than hard counter.

252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Mind Blown vs. 248 HP / 176+ SpD Thick Fat Mandibuzz: 142-168 (33.5 - 39.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 176+ SpD Mandibuzz: 75-90 (17.7 - 21.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 32 Def / 228 SpD
Careful Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Stone Edge / Earthquake
- Leech Seed
- Protect

Celesteela is a very good mons that can be put in lots of BO or Balanced teams for its ability to check almost every fire types in the tier, including blacephalon:
252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 228+ SpD Celesteela: 140-165 (35.2 - 41.5%) -- 79.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers
4 Atk Life Orb Blacephalon Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 32 Def Celesteela: 105-125 (26.4 - 31.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Blacephalon: 120-142 (48.5 - 57.4%) -- 94.9% chance to 2HKO
0 Atk Celesteela Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Blacephalon: 270-318 (109.3 - 128.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Heavy slam is able to break a sub easily without risking to miss, and Stone Edge / Eq OHKO. Even if Stone Edge can miss, it's still very usefull for its ability to hard counter Magic Guard Volcarona. Protect is usefull, even without leftovers, because it can scout what the Blace wants to do, if the opponent predicts Stone Edge / Earthquake or not. Leech Seed can be used if you predicts a switch to recover a bit. However Shadow Ball still does lots of damage, so Celesteela isn't a hard counter to Blacephalon, but its versatility and its general bulk still makes it a very good choice in lots of teams.

PS: Don't hesitate to tell me if you see any mistakes.

Poison heal calm mind Fini, counters the shit out of Blacephalon and a whole bunch of other stuff. Fini can run a dozen sets and you can stick Defog or more coverage in the taunt/cm slots if you want. I prefer scald over moonblast for things like Magearna, Cele, steels in general and stuff like Mr Pennywise here. This set is my favorite of Fini's as it can not only be a wall/tank but also a stallbreaker. Taunt+CM breaks through most things not called Toxapex or Unaware Chansey. EVs are super customizable do with them as you wish.

Bunch of theses answers get heavily pressured by blace imo.
The calc against fini is missing life orb, Fini actually takes 44 min from shadow ball meaning it can get 2HKOd with rocks up, protect gives Blace a potential CM or Sub (it should be cm really imo) and really fini usually has enough to deal with that it can't stay at full just to take on Blace (and it kinda has to stay full to do so comfortably).
Regen Goodra is one of the mons that hates the most losing it's AV. And with the AV off it takes more damage than Regen heals from legit every move Blace can throw at it.
Celesteela is similarly a last resort check but you better have other offensive checks on the team. Cause losing lefties can mean no recovery at all in a lot of matchups, and then you can't really come in on Blace again.

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature

Prankster Zygarde-Complete is a counter to this Gengar set, and a reasonable switchin to Mega Gengar in general since very few sets will OHKO it and Zygarde can heal up or remove boosts before the next attack. With Entrainment Lightning Rod can be removed allowing Zyg to hit mgar with twaves, or at least force them out. Zygarde also provides a solid blanket check to most physical attackers and setup sweepers. Variations to this set include running Groundium Z if you don't already have a Z-move which let's you OHKO Mega Gengar and also no worry as much about Normalize sets, a +SpDef nature can also be used to better answer mgar but this makes Zygarde less effective at its other roles so imo isn't worth it. You can also run 252/31 speed and Impish idk which is better really just a choice between trapping stuff tina/yvel etc u-turn to and hitting certain steels before they can recover.

252 SpA Spooky Plate Gengar-Mega Judgment vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 196-232 (30.8 - 36.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Yveltal is one of the best general counters to Gengar and this offensive set counters the Lightning Rod variant well. Priority Oblivion Wing allows Yveltal to bypass Electrify, and it OHKOs Gengar at +3.

+3 252+ SpA Life Orb Yveltal Oblivion Wing vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Mega Gengar: 383-452 (118.2 - 139.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Gengar can hardly touch Yveltal, and any damage taken can be recovered with Oblivion Wing.
252 SpA Spooky Plate Mega Gengar Judgment vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Yveltal: 96-114 (21 - 25%) -- Miniscule chance to 4HKO

252 SpA Mega Gengar Secret Sword vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Yveltal: 93-110 (20.3 - 24.1%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Additionally, by using Revelation Dance as Dark stab, this set can serve as a general Gengar counter due to Revelation Dance beating Normalize and Dazzling variants 1v1.

Yveltal is a check to Gengar-Mega, due to it hitting Gengar super-effectively and bypassing Lightning Rod when hit by Electrify. It can even use Sucker Punch to outspeed a predicted attack and Pursuit to hit it if it switches out.

Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Substitute

Switch in on the Gengar as soon as it comes in,. If it goes for electrify or an attack, you can quiver dance once, and survive any move it tries next turn, and still be able to get your substitute up. Since you are boosted, you outspeed Electrify. You can safely Knock Off, dealing about half damage to it as it attacks (80% if it Shell Smashes) and getting rid of the Spooky Plate. Sub up again, and the next scald will probably kill.
If as you switch in, it goes for Shell Smash, you still survive any +2 hit (see calcs). This puts you into an advantageous 50 50 situation since it's obliged to Smash again, allowing you to get a substitute up freely or a Knock Off KO. Attacking risks simply taking huge damage to Knock Off or Scald (the worst you deal is 59% with Knock Off, and you also get rid of the Spooky Plate). Scald does about 90% at +1 or 70% at +0.
The set also has additional utility letting you get residual damage on bulky mons, softening them up for teammates, while still keeping sweep potential. Substitute also protects you from things like Topsy Turvy, Entrainment, Purify, and Knock Off, and gives you even better improofing since Imposter can literally do nothing to you and is just losing health.

You switch in and they think you will switch out as they are completely imposterproof and proceed to Smash and you OHKO them. You can even get free switches on Electrify which also boosts your own SpA. Earth Plate is possible but doesn't OHKO unboosted.

Zygarde-Complete @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Haze
- Entrainment
- Thousand Waves
- Shore Up

252 SpA Gengar-Mega Secret Sword vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Zygarde-Complete: 72-85 (11.3 - 13.3%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 Atk Zygarde-Complete Thousand Waves vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Gengar-Mega: 224-266 (69.1 - 82%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Shedinja @ Protective Pads

EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Extreme Speed
- Endeavor
- Spectral Thief
Sturdinja is a counter to this MGar set (and a lot of other sweeper MGar sets) as it simply can't be killed and Shadow Sneak hits before electrify can be used. Protective pads can be changed for lum if you're scared of status.

252+ Atk Shedinja Shadow Sneak vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Gengar-Mega: 102-122 (31.4 - 37.6%) -- 88.4% chance to 3HKO

Yveltal @ Life Orb
Ability: Triage
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Oblivion Wing
- Revelation Dance
- Giga Drain / Secret Sword / filler

Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock / Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Revelation Dance
- Strength Sap / Recover
Yveltal is a check to Gengar-Mega, due to it hitting Gengar super-effectively and bypassing Lightning Rod when hit by Electrify. It can even use Sucker Punch to outspeed a predicted attack and Pursuit to hit it if it switches out.

Kyogre-Primal @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
