Approved by drampa's grandpa The Immortal Ransei

Welcome to OM's iteration of Victim of the Week. Hopefully this will help to gather information and spread knowledge of checks and counters to popular Pokemon throughout multiple Metagames

How it works
The OM version of this project will work differently to other iterations of this project. There will be a 3 week cycle between AAA, BH, and MnM with each of them getting their own week dedicated to them. The cycle may expand after a while if another metagame was to be added.

Each week I will nominate a Pokemon as VotW. You guys will need to nominate a Pokemon to either check or counter the VotW (make sure to state which in post).
The submission phase will last 5 days and the voting phase will last 2 days each cycle.
The "Hall of Fame" will be a ladder system with the winner getting 3 points each week, 2nd place getting 2, and 3rd place getting 1. Plus your sets will be archived.

Rules
1. Follow the definitions for checks and counters in The Smog issue #32.
2. Please make sure to explain the set. Doesn't need to be long just make sure people know why its a check / counter. Preferably with calcs
3. Reservations only last 12 hours, don't john.
4. Different sets of the same Pokemon can be nominated.
5. Don't be toxic, if someone posts a 'bad' set help them out instead of flaming.
6. Make sure Pokemon is on the VR

Reserving Prankster Toxapex
I'm gonna try participating even though i don't play AAA much. This looks fun

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Haze
- Recover
- Toxic / Toxic Spikes

Prankster Toxapex is a counter to this particular Magearna set thanks to its priority Haze removing any stat boost. Despite Tinted Lens, Toxapex has high natural bulk to avoid getting OHKOed even by unboosted Twinkle Tackle and a priority Recover to stall out Fleur Cannon's 8 PP. Its low HP was somehow slightly helpful against Pain Split set. It is a check otherwise if its other sets or packing super-effective coverage and Physically Defensive variants takes too much damage from Twinkle Tackle.

Calcs:
200 SpA Tinted Lens Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex: 114-136 (37.5 - 44.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

200 SpA Tinted Lens Magearna Twinkle Tackle (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex: 172-204 (56.5 - 67.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

200 SpA Tinted Lens Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 252 HP / 12 SpD Toxapex: 150-178 (49.3 - 58.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

200 SpA Tinted Lens Magearna Twinkle Tackle (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 12 SpD Toxapex: 226-266 (74.3 - 87.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 200 Atk / 64 SpD / 244 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn / Superpower
- Knock Off / Superpower
- Smack Down

This is a pretty jank set, but it is capable of switching into Magearna and winning every time versus this set (clearly Shift Gear + Ice Beam wins, or just Ice Beam on the switch-in). Having Magnet Pull makes it very reliable once you get it in, as you only really need to get it in once. It outspeeds Magearna without Shift Gear and lives one hit from Magearna without Calm Mind, so providing you don't allow it to get both you should be good.

The EVs specifically outspeed 252+ Heatran, live Twinkle Tackle after rocks, and pump Attack up as much as possible.

200+ Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 56 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 336-396 (106.6 - 125.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Magearna Twinkle Tackle (195 BP) vs. 0 HP / 64 SpD Assault Vest Landorus-Therian: 237-279 (74.2 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

200+ Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 336-396 (92.3 - 108.7%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
200+ Atk Landorus-Therian Smack Down vs. 248 HP / 28 Def Celesteela: 60-71 (15.1 - 17.8%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
200+ Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 28 Def Celesteela: 356-422 (89.6 - 106.2%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
200+ Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 4 Def Heatran: 712-844 (184.9 - 219.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Heatran Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 64 SpD Assault Vest Landorus-Therian: 147-174 (46 - 54.5%) -- 55.5% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Heatran Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 64 SpD Assault Vest Landorus-Therian: 220-259 (68.9 - 81.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Heatran Inferno Overdrive (185 BP) vs. 0 HP / 64 SpD Assault Vest Landorus-Therian: 246-291 (77.1 - 91.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (don't try to tank Z or Specs Desoland tho)
200+ Atk Landorus-Therian Superpower over 2 turns vs. 252 HP / 24 Def Ferrothorn: 392-462 (111.3 - 131.2%) -- guaranteed KO in 2 turns after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

I just took OU spreads from the calc for these but they should give you the idea

So yeh. This is a COUNTER although a bit of a shaky one.

This is a fun project I hope it goes well and people better than me post sets

EDIT: Oh yeh and the other moves are honestly filler. Superpower for Levitate Steels and Ferro might be worth considering.
EDIT2: Added Smack Down > Stone Edge as it allows you to hit Skarmory and Celesteela and slashed in Superpower. The set now looks more like something I'd actually run rather than just a terrible and somewhat unreliable Magearna counter.

Can always switch-in even after Rocks and threaten an OHKO. Regen helps keep it healthy as well to comfortably live boosted Z-move.

Kinda wanted to ad to that because regen Victini is cool and all, but I've always found that overall, regen scarf Victini was infinitely better in almost every matchup. It doesn't beat this specific magearna set as comfortably but it still does beat it.
The problem with scarf more than anything tho is V-create pp, if you're forced to v-create any time.

That's the set Sylveon runs in his sample;

Victini @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 116 SpD / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- U-turn
- Final Gambit
- Will-O-Wisp

Again, not as good in this mu but better overall imo.

jsyk with this project you can post multiple sets of the same Pokemon, so even though AV Victini is submitted Choice Scarf can also be submitted. This isn't just a reply to motherlove but a statement to everyone that hasn't read the rules and haven't stole this set to submit yet

Came up with this idea for a check in OM chat:

Snorlax @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 152 HP / 104 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Rock Slide / Ice Punch
- Body Slam / Superpower / Gunk Shot

The worst case scenario is that you come in on magearna at +1 with rocks up.

+1 200 SpA Magearna Twinkle Tackle (195 BP) vs. 152 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Snorlax: 207-244 (41.4 - 48.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+1 200 SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 152 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Snorlax: 138-163 (27.6 - 32.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

48.8 + 32.6 = 81.4% max. Meanwhile,

104 Atk Snorlax Earthquake vs. 56 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 154-182 (48.8 - 57.7%) -- 95.3% chance to 2HKO
Running any more attack isn't advisable, and this spread also secures the 2HKO on 0 HP Mage if that means anything. The 104 EVs secure a 2HKO on noivern with rock slide

This honestly isn't a bad set; it functions similarly to alolan-muk with a little more bulk and the ability to beat all magearnas, trading off knock off (fighting weakness isnt too big of a deal). Of course PH is better overall, but it has its uses if you need a special wall that doesn't get pursuited by AV ttar/scarf krook or magnet pulled, and you can bet one of those is showing up with tinted lens magearna.

This is a bit of a weird one but it honestly can take on so many of the great special attackers in the meta and this mag is no exception. Probably one of the most comfortable switchins to any special move that isn't coming from xurkitree. Also works as a status and knock off absorber.

200 SpA Magearna Twinkle Tackle (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Milotic: 189-223 (47.9 - 56.5%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO after Poison Heal
200 SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Milotic: 127-150 (32.2 - 38%) -- 82.7% chance to 4HKO after Poison Heal

+3 252 SpA Manaphy Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Milotic: 252-298 (63.9 - 75.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Poison Heal (if you're switching into this you'll need to get the 50/50 between Haze/Mirror Coat)
252 SpA Gengar Zap Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Milotic: 162-192 (41.1 - 48.7%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO after Poison Heal

knock off remove toxic orb then purify it loses its healing magic bounce so you can't get slepted and just keep spamming knock off till it dies or switches

Dialga @ Steelium Z
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Doom Desire
- Core Enforcer
- Tail Glow
- Shore Up

This set can easily switch into the Regigigas set (it needs at least a +2 boost to do appreciable damage), cannot lose item due to knock off, and threatens the KO with Core Enforcer. It can even Doom Desire first, then Core enforcer and hit whatever switches in with heavy damage via Tail Glow. You can improof with Sturdy Shedinja, a Substitute Fairy-type, or Regenvest Registeel/Dialga. You also get a lot of utility such as blocking hazards and checking normalize gengar.

252+ Atk Regigigas Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Dialga: 102-120 (25.2 - 29.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
