OM Analyses Reservation Thread

Welcome, everyone, to Gen 8 OM analyses. In here, you will be able to write about your favorite Pokemon that you've come to know and love in the biggest Other Metagames Smogon and PS! have to offer. The OMs we are offering will be 2v2, AAA, Anything Goes, Balanced Hackmons, Godly Gift, Mix and Mega, NFE, STABmons, and ZU! Due to the release of DLC, only metagames who have updated the analyses for post-DLC-II are available and these are the following:

Godly Gift
NFE
ZU

Guidelines for Reserving an Analysis:
  • Anyone can reserve two Pokemon at a time, in total from any metagame. If you are currently a badgeholder or a member of a QC team, you are able to reserve four analyses (only four in the metagame you QC, if you are a QC member). Analyses currently in GP do not count for the limit total.
  • Do not reserve the Pokemon without extensive metagame knowledge, knowledge of how the Pokemon works, and a lot of experience with the Pokemon. If it is clear you do not know what you are writing about, then your analysis will be reassigned.
  • If you wish to reserve an "unconventional Pokemon," you can certainly attempt to do so. However, you must provide reasonable evidence, a set, and at least some substance to your post.
  • If you do not follow through on your reservation within 48 hours, the Pokemon you have reserved can be reserved by someone else. However, if no one has done so after the 48 hours, you can still post the WIP. Do NOT reserve Pokemon if you don't have the time to finish the analysis!
  • Any Pokemon approved by a QC member of the metagame you wish to analyze will be fine. Generally, reserve Pokemon that have a placement in the respective metagame's VR, and don't waste a QC members time with unviable Pokemon.

Analysis Thread Tags:
  • [WIP] --- The Work-in-Progress tag indicates that you are still completing your Pokemon's skeleton. This tag indicates that you are not ready for QC checks, and are still working. Do not be lazy in this stage, if you do not get it to the QC stage within 72 hours of having this tag, then your analysis will be archived and reassigned. This can fluctuate if unpredictable circumstances prevent you from being able to write (i.e. accidents or getting sick, not school or work) -- if that happens, contact a QC member to let them know as soon as possible.
  • [QC] --- This is the most important stage of the analysis. Please put the tag [QC: 0/2] in your thread title. When a QC check is implemented, change your title to [QC 1/2]. Your analysis will also be taken over by volunteers if a QC check fail to be implemented within a week. Additionally, if your analysis is inherently flawed, a member of QC may "QC Reject" your analysis, sending it back into the WIP phases for improvement. If you are QC rejected three times, or if the QC team thinks your analysis is unsalvageable, your analysis will be archived/reassigned.
  • [GP] --- This stage is where Grammar Prose will come and make sure that your analysis is of written quality. They will correct grammatical errors. Like GP, you must put [GP: 0/1] in your thread title. You must also reply to your thread with the comment "GP Team" to get your analysis added to the queue. Your analysis will also be taken over by volunteers if a GP check fail to be implemented within a week.
  • [Done] --- This tag indicates that your analysis is done, and it is ready to be uploaded by site. This will be handled by our OM C&C Moderators, so feel free to tag us once your thread hits this stage

To reserve an analysis, please post in this thread with the name of the Pokemon you are reserving, the metagame for which you are reserving it, and the set or sets you wish to analyze. A QC member of the respective metagame you are writing for must approve the analysis by liking the post before you can post a thread in this forum containing your work-in-progress (WIP) analysis. All analyses are expected to follow the Spelling and Grammar Standards.

Important Announcement!
Each QC team can decide the format for their meta's analyses. Currently, NFE and STABmons have elected to use Preview analyses, while the remaining OMs are continuing to use full length analyses. These formats both requires 2 QC checks and 1 GP Checks, though the first GP checker can stamp 1/2 if they believe the analysis requires an additional GP check. Additionally, you only need to reserve one set of a Pokemon, if you want, not every single viable set. The format for these analyses can be found right here:

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: U-turn / Substitute
move 3: Grassy Glide
move 4: Drain Punch / Knock Off
item: Eviolite
ability: Grassy Surge
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Access to priority in Grassy Glide and a great ability in Grassy Surge allows Thwackey to perform as both a Swords Dance wallbreaker and priority sweeper. Grassy Glide lets Thwackey threaten faster threats like Kadabra and Galarian Mr. Mime, and it can also find opportunities to use Swords Dance on passive Pokemon like Clefairy, Mareanie, and Ferroseed. If not U-turn for pivoting purposes, then Substitute is used viably on passive Pokemon if they lack strong coverage against Thwackey, and it is also worthwhile for blocking status attempts from walls like Galarian Corsola and Charjabug. Drain Punch provides further recovery while also targeting Steel-type Pokemon like Ferroseed and Klang as well as Vullaby. Knock Off instead offers coverage for Lampent and an option to debilitate Thwackey's checks like Tangela and Koffing.

The effects of Grassy Surge linger even after Thwackey has left the field, so plan teammates accordingly to benefit from its effects. Stealth Rock users like Clefairy and Piloswine help wear down Grass-resistant targets like Golbat, Charjabug, and Magmar; with Piloswine, make sure to opt for High Horsepower instead of Earthquake due to Grassy Terrain. Grass- and Poison-types like Tanglea, Ivysaur, and Koffing stand in Thwackey's way and need to be eliminated for it to have a chance of cleaning. Try pairing Thwackey with special wallbreakers like Kadabra and Galarian Mr. Mime to help target these walls, and in return, Thwackey punishes special walls like Ferroseed and Klang. Status conditions plague Thwackey, and while Substitute helps in some cases, having a defense against Toxic Spikes like Mareanie, Koffing, and Hattrem solidifies its health; Hattrem's Healing Wish is also notable for combating status conditions and HP lost when Thwackey sets up. Special sweepers in Wartortle and Clefairy set up on on physical walls like Galarian Corsola and Vullaby, which applies immense pressure on Thwackey's checks when played offensively.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A set utilizing Grassy Seed and Acrobatics provides strong coverage against checks like Golbat and Roselia, but is less consistent for setting up due to the lack of an Eviolite. Taunt instead of Swords Dance could be considered to prevent walls from recovering, although the lack of boosting can be underwelming.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: Golbat, Koffing, and Ivysaur easily switch into Thwackey, and can still function as checks despite potentially taking a Knock Off from it.

**Fire-types**: Faster Fire-types like Magmar, Raboot, Combusken, and Choice Scarf Lampent resist Grassy Glide and easily revenge kill Thwackey. However, they struggle switching in, and can be jeopardized by chip damage like entry hazards.

**Physcial Walls**: Walls that resist Grass like Tangela, Charjabug, and Togetic do well to deter Thwackey's sweeping attempts. Vullaby and Galarian Corsola also work, but have to watch out for Drain Punch and Substitute sets, respectively.

[SET COMMENTS]
In this section, make sure to include:
- the role that the Pokémon plays;
- coverage moves that affect its role; in this case, Earthquake allowing Abomasnow to defeat would-be Steel-type switch-ins, furthering its ability as a wallbreaker;
- a description of the EV spread in one sentence or less; don't focus on "default" things like maximum Attack investment, do give reasoning behind the benchmarks chosen;
- a brief example of teammates that benefit from the analysed Pokemon's presence;
- a brief example of foes that the analyses Pokemon is vulnerable to + teammates to help cover them.
- This section shouldn't be more than five or six sentences long.
