Oinkologne

Type:
Normal

Base Stats (M): 110 HP / 100 Atk / 75 Def / 59 SpA / 80 SpD / 65 Spe
Base Stats (F): 115 HP / 90 Atk / 70 Def / 59 SpA / 90 SpD / 65 Spe

Abilities: Gluttony / Lingering Aroma (Male Form) / Aroma Veil (Female Form) / Thick Fat

New Abilities:

Lingering Aroma:
Any opponent that deals direct contact with this Pokemon will have their ability changed to Lingering Aroma.

Notable Moves:
- Double-Edge
- Body Slam
- Tera Blast
- Facade
- Stuff Cheeks
- Yawn
- Body Press
- Stomping Tantrum
- Zen Headbutt
- Rest
- Play Rough
- Seed Bomb

Pros:
- Surprisingly decent stats for an early route pure Normal type mon, with above-average bulk in both forms, with the Female one having better Special Defense, while the Male one has an usable Attack stat.
- Has some very unique and interesting abilities. Gluttony can be used on niche berry sets, Lingering Aroma can negate opponent's abilities, Aroma Veil blocks taunt, and Thick Fat gives it two extra resistances to the otherwise subpar Normal typing.
- Stuff Cheeks + Body Press can turn it into a defensive sweeper.
- While its movepool is otherwise lacking, it does have some alright coverage options such as Play Rough and Stomping Tantrum.
Cons:
- Very subpar movepool in general. While both forms have mostly defensively oriented stat spreads, it lacks any recovery, status, or support moves.
- Can do a lot of niche sets but doesn't perform any one particularly well.
- Pure Normal is a bad typing that gives it no resistances or immunities outside of Ghost, and gives it a poor STAB offensively.
- Quite slow at 65 Speed, making any offensive sets lacking as a revenge killer or sweeper.
- Outclassed by so many other Pokemon it can't really form any sort of role. Blissey and even Dundunsparce are superior defensive Normal types, Maushold is a better offensive and support Normal type, and as a defensive sweeper, Corviknight serves better using Iron Defense + Body Press.

Terastal Potential
- Tera Ground is the best option on offensive sets to give it a more powerful Ground type coverage move rather than rely on Stomping Tantrum, while also getting rid of its Fighting type weakness. Thick Fat also gets rid of Ground's weakness to Ice.
- Tera Ghost can also be used on Body Press defensive sets to prevent it from getting walled and providing near perfect coverage with Body Press.
- Finally, Tera Fairy can be used on pure defensive sets to turn its Fighting type weakness into a resistance and power up Play Rough.

Potential Sets

Choice Band

Oinkologne-M @ Choice Band
Ability: Lingering Aroma/Thick Fat
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 At / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Play Rough
- Tera Blast
- Seed Bomb/Facade

This set takes advantage of Oinkologne-M's better attack and decent coverage. Double-Edge is its hardest hitting move and does decent damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Play Rough counters any Fighting type users that try to take it out, such as Hawlucha, Annihilape, and Iron Hands. Tera Blast is used after Terastallizing, utilizing a strong STAB Ground type move that kills any bulky Rock or Steel types such as Iron Treads or Garganacal that switch in. Finally, Seed Bomb can counter any Water types that try to revenge kill it after Terastallizing, while also countering Rock types before even turning into a Tera Ground type. Alternatively, Facade can be used as a normally weaker, yet more reliable STAB move that doesn't cause recoil, and prevents Oinkologne from becoming a liability once its burned. Thick Fat or Lingering Aroma can be chosen as the ability. Neither provide much offensively utility but can punish any revenge killers by getting rid of its ability, or removing its amount of counters with extra resistances.

Defense Sweeper
Oinkologne-M or F @ Ganlon Berry
Ability: Thick Fat/Aroma Veil
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stuff Cheeks
- Body Press
- Tera Blast
- Body Slam/Rest

Either Oinkologne form can be used here. Oinkologne-M has slightly better natural Defense to boost the power of its Body Presses, and has better Attack for Body Slam and Tera Blast, but Oinkologne-F has better special bulk to make it less countered by special attackers. Stuff Cheeks should be used as quickly as possible so the opponent doesn't knock it down to 25% HP or below, thus pre-activating its berry. Ganlon Berry combined with Stuffed Cheeks gives it a +3 in Defense, making it a decently physically bulky Body Press user. Tera Blast is used after terastallizing to give it a Ghost type Tera Blast that would counter Pokemon such as Gholdengo, which would otherwise wall it. Body Slam can be used to give it a STAB Normal type move that also spreads paralysis, but doesn't prove any extra coverage so is not completely necessary. Rest can be used to give it a form of recovery, but it's incredibly unreliable due to forcing Oinkologne to waste turns sleeping. Thick Fat is used to give it extra resistances as Normal otherwise has none outside of an immunity to Fighting, and gets rid of one of its weaknesses once becoming a Tera Ground type. Alternatively, Aroma Veil can be used to prevent it from becoming Taunt bait. Max Speed EVs are given to try to make Oinkologne outspeed the opponent so it can use Stuffed Cheeks before it's brought down to low health, and serve as a better sweeper, while Defense EVs instead of HP are given to maximize the power of Body Press.

Specially Defensive
Oinkologne-F @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Fairy/Ground
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Body Slam
- Play Rough/Stomping Tantrum
- Yawn/Stomping Tantrum
- Protect

This is a set specifically ran for Oinkologne-F to take advantage of her better special bulk. Body Slam is used as the main STAB move that also has a decent chance of causing paralysis. Play Rough is used as coverage that also counters Fighting types that try to take it down. Stomping Tantrum is used as coverage against Rock and Steel types, as they would otherwise wall it. Particularly Steel types are also resisted by Play Rough, so Oinkologne is still walled if that move is ran, unlike Rock types. Yawn can be used to make Oinkologne less passive and force sweepers attempting to use it as set-up bait out. Finally, Protect is used to stall out turns, provide extra recovery with Leftovers, and scout for moves. Leftovers gives this Pokemon recovery it otherwise lacks. Thick Fat is preferred over Aroma Veil as it needs the extra resistances to have defensive utility before Terestalizing, as Normal is a subpar defensive typing. It also is less vulnerable to Taunt, as unlike the Body Press set, it doesn't entirely rely on a status move to succeed. Tera Fairy or Ground can be run depending on the coverage moves it has. If only Stomping Tantrum is run, it should become a Tera Ground type, and same with Play Rough and Tera Fairy. If both coverage moves are run, either type can be used depending on what you are trying to check. Fairy counters Fighting types that would normally take it out while Ground gives it an immunity to Electric, while also getting rid of one of its weaknesses in combination with Thick Fat.

Other Options:
- Gluttony may seem like an interesting ability, but any berry sets involving it are too niche to be considered worthwhile.

Overall Thoughts:
Oinkologne has a lot of interesting versatility and set variety, but it fails to succeed at anything. It's outclassed by a lot of other Pokemon and overall just isn't worth it. It's a shame to know that even the early route Normal type with the highest BST is still unviable. Whether it can have a niche in the inevitable bottom tier it ends up in, I cannot say. Either way, it was fun coming up with all of these sets, but they probably have no real viability compared to more specialized Pokemon with better suited movepools.

The only thing this pokemon is good for is BACON.

Straight up worst new fully evolved pokemon in generation 9. Outclassed by most other normal types. Cool abilities but that's about it
Nah spidops is worse. At least this one doesn’t have terrible stats.

Nah Spidops has Sticky Webs which carves out a niche for it and can distinguish itself from the other 2 users. Oinkologne is literally outclassed by Gredent, Dudunsparce, Ursaring, and a whole bunch of other normal types

I don't really get what makes Greedent better tbh. It's basically the same Pokemon except this one has better speed and the female form has better special bulk. I guess Greedent has better physical bulk?

Greedent has Belly Drum with two abilities that mitigate the HP cost. It's not an OU thing in the slightest, but it's something.

Greedent is way too slow to use Belly Drum. This one is quite a bit faster. And the female form has better special bulk to actually suit defensive sets.

Greedent is bulkier overall bulkier and has Super Fang, Counter, and Swords Dance. It's not OU material for the most part, but still considerably better than Oinkologne. No one should be using Oinkologne seriously because in almost all cases it is outclassed and especially so once HOME gets released

Fair point. It’s hard to say anything because literally no one talked about Greedent during the SS metagame. It was never ranked nor were any sets released on it.

Yeah that shows how irrelevant Oinkologne is. The only set that I have found for it that isnt completely obliterated by everything else is a Rest/Sleep Talk set with Lingering Aroma to nullify the opponents Abilities.
