Cycle 35 - If I Didn't Have You

:ss/gastrodon:

Gastrodon AKA ROZ has slimed its way into the Neverused metagame! The first thing that comes to mind is what the heck is this going to run? A standard set in Earth Power / Scald / Toxic / Recover is pretty straightforward but in COMPARISON to the other defensive Water-types: Quagsire, Vaporeon, and Mantine, what makes Gastrodon stick out? Let's just say if you don't submit a set, ROZ will always be watching... Submissions for Gastrodon will end on July 16th, Have fun!
Scald + EP + Toxic + Recover (combination), can switch a move on this set

RestStockpile Gastrodon :ss/Gastrodon:

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 152 HP / 104 Def / 248 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Earth Power
- Rest
- Stockpile

Here we have a Gastron that uses Stockpile to gain some defensive presence + Rest to regain its entire hp while also getting rid of detrimental status moves. Stockpile is here in order to use Rest with more ease, proving Grass-types being already out of the picture.
If you play well (= you avoid switchin-in into Water-type moves), your opponent will be caught off guard for some turns.
(The EVs spread is highly customizable)
152 HP EVs are enough to reach 401 hp, enough to withstand 5 Seismic Toss (without taking into account Leftovers), while 4 Spe EVs are just a filler.

Demon Gastrodon

:ss/gastrodon-east:

Gastrodon @ Flame Orb / Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain / Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Curse
- Amnesia
- Facade
- Recover / Rest

Like shellos sweeper in LC but with Flame Orb to avoid toxic.Rest over Recover + lefto sticky hold combo can work ig.
Get ride of ghosts with Toxic(Spikes) support and enjoy.

Vaporeon Lure Gastrodon
:gastrodon:
Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Block
- Scald
- Toxic / Rest / Yawn
- Recover

Trap Vap/Mantine/etc that are getting greedy, then stall them to death. EVs live +2 Groundvally / 2 hits from Groundvally after rocks as well as avoiding a 2HKO by Ice Beam from +2 Stoise. Toxic vs Rest vs Epower is based a bit on the target; Rest stalls Mantine most effectively, Toxic is just generic goodness, but if you predict badly you'll be forced to just PP stall Vap, Yawn lets you cheese incredibly hard.

TONE

I don't have to take this. I'm going for a walk.

Gastrodon @ Life Orb
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
- Recover
- Earth Power
- Scald
- Ice Beam

Offensive tank Gastrodon isn't a bad set. With respectable Special Attack as well as a great typing along with reliable recovery can make it a potent nuisance. Speed is here for uninvested base 50s like Vileplume, but you can also be a speed demon and outspeed those Adamant Copperajahs that wanna Power Whip you too.
