Standard and common sets are generally effective. After all, that's why they're common and standard. But sometimes a less-common set can be effective. In fact, brand-new sets can be quite effective as well. This thread is for new and creative movesets that can be quite effective, as well as old movesets that have fallen out of favor but have become quite effective in the NU metagame.

What is a new and creative, good moveset?
  • It successfully pulls off a role, and is not strictly outclassed by others.
  • It takes advantage of metagame trends.
  • It has had some success. Post replays / logs to strengthen your case.
  • It is able to successfully and consistently lure intended threats.
What is an underrated, good moveset?
  • It is an existing set that for whatever reason isn't common.
  • Its use is meant to prey on specific facets of the metagame.
  • It might be able to surprise and demolish Pokemon that normally counter the usual sets, but does not become a gimmick in order to do so.
What are some things that constitute a shitty gimmick?
  • Using a Pokemon that has no business being used in NU, for the sake of using it in NU.
  • Movesets that are inferior and ineffective compared to existing movesets, or use an obscure move for the sake of hitting an even more obscure check or counter.
  • Movesets that are utterly impractical or are horribly outclassed by another Pokemon.
Some ground rules as well:
  • You must test your set before posting it here. Don't post something just because it "might" work, post it because it does. I'd recommend showing room tour replays or mid-to-high ladder replays over low ladder replays to prove your case.
  • Include a readable format and description for all sets, explain what it does and why it's worth running in the metagame.
  • Don't post joke or troll sets, this is for serious and competitive sets only (and I know what these sets are). Gimmick sets are A-OK if they are functional enough on a competitive team.

Ninjask @ Groundium Z
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leech Life
- Dig
- U-turn

I've been running this recently and think it has some potential. I saw some dude talking about how Ninjask got Leech Life and how Fightinium Z Final Gambit was a 180 BP fighting move in the NU room so I checked it out. Turned out Final Gambit is special, but nonetheless the mon turned out to be better than expected. The set itself is kind of easy to understand, but the most interesting move here is U-turn. It is not rocket science when you see a Ninjask boosting and you have a Steelix/Garb in the back that it's probably ZDig, so U-turn is generally risk free and punishes scouting for a Zmove fairly hard (as they switch out of the bug resist). Outside of that, it still functions as a super fast revenge killer that maintains momentum.

This is taken from my most recent post in the viability rankings thread, as either not enough people believe me or not enough people have actually tried it out (or got beaten by it):

Very underrated set that has me sitting comfortably on 1500+ on the ladder

Zangoose @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Toxic Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Facade
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Quick Attack

Zangoose: Unranked -> B+

This should be ranked; Zangoose is an amazing wallbreaker that can punch holes through many teams. It barely needs support to do its job, though some speed control will help. Toxic Boost boosted Facade further boosted by STAB coming off a respectable 115 base Attack makes it highly formidable; the STAB boost makes Facade hit 315 Base Power, which is WTF tier (stronger than any Z-move).

Toxic Boost Knock Off allows it to beat Cofagrigus, and Close Combat 2HKOes Steelix and Rhydon, making them unable to switch in safely.

Almost anything in the tier that does not resist Facade will be 2HKOed, if not OHKOed, giving Zangoose very few safe switch-ins.

Relevant calcs vs the strongest walls in the tier:
252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Steelix: 170-202 (48 - 57%) -- 36.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (note that most Steelix run SpDef)
252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Close Combat vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Steelix: 214-254 (60.7 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 226-266 (54.5 - 64.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Cofagrigus: 232-274 (72.7 - 85.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Comparing Zangoose's damage output to the most prominent NU Facade user Machamp:

252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Facade (140 BP) vs. 204 HP / 248+ Def Vaporeon: 340-402 (75.2 - 88.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 237-279 (60.1 - 70.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Guts Machamp Close Combat vs. 204 HP / 248+ Def Vaporeon: 319-376 (70.5 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Guts Machamp Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 172-203 (43.6 - 51.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Base 90 Speed is nice, putting it on the same Speed tier as Drapion and Meloetta. With Quick Attack, it can even clean off weakened and frail revenge killers.

Zangoose should get a rank, imo. At least one Pokemon on the opponent's team will die if it manages to get on the field safely.

Toxic Boost is only slightly worse than Guts in SM, because Burn got nerfed, but that's negligible.

(Got perms from Yogi to post this) Hello friends, let me post a cool set (Credits to Sharp Ladder UU for giving me this idea)

Drapion @ Black Sludge
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
- Acupressure
- Knock Off
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

So, you're probably thinking this is some dumb meme. Well let me explain. I basically ran this on an Aurora Veil and has had some amazing success. Drapion manages to set up on a good chunk of the Metagame, this includes Sceptile / Majority of Psychic Types / Whimsicott which are extremely common right now. Since majority of these Pokemon are Special Attackers, investing Drapion in full SpD / HP makes it easier for it to set up. Battle Armor protects Drapion from Crits and Rest Talk allows Drapion to clear status / increase its longitivtiy. Black Sludge gives Drapion some form of passive recovery and Knock Off is arguably one of the most spamnable moves in the game. This can't even be encored by the likes of Whimsi due to Dark Type (Though it can be encored by other stuff, but they're usually uncommon). Obviously, this isn't successful 100% of the time due it relying on luck occasionally, but a good chunk of the time, it does get its job done. Btw, if it gets evasion boost tell the opponent to press "X"

Slowking @ Psychium Z
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Psyshock
- Nasty Plot
- Trick Room
- Surf

Ever since Cofagrigus' ban, there has been a struggle to fill in the missing gap of an OTR mon, but Slowking fills in some of the missing void that it's coffin brethren has left behind. Boasting a higher special attack stat than Cofagrigus and amazing STAB coverage which is only resisted by itself, Slowbro (actually gets KO'd by +3 Shattered Scythe after rocks and can't do anything back), and Shiftry (which is frail as hell and frankly not too good right now). Another nice little bonus is that it can simply just set up Trick Room and heal off any damage it might've taken with Regenerator making it a very desirable setter. Near nothing walls this outside of resists as well due to Psyshock allowing it to hit hard on the physical side:

Example Calcs:
+2 252+ SpA Slowking Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 176 Def Cryogonal: 313-369 (86.2 - 101.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ SpA Slowking Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Mow: 226-267 (93.7 - 110.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ SpA Slowking Surf vs. 0 HP / 132 SpD Skuntank: 331-391 (95.3 - 112.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Slowking Shattered Psyche (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Scyther: 288-339 (102.4 - 120.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Replays:

Accelgor @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Final Gambit
- Bug Buzz
- Sludge Bomb
- Spikes

Accelgor is low-key good in this meta, outspeeding scarf based 80s and the likes of Sceptile and Sneasel. It's one of few spikers that scare out Xatu since Bug Buzz is a 2hko on Phys Def variants. Sludge Bomb does above 40% to Virizion, and can even become a 2hko with the poison chance. The main crux of this set is Z-Final Gambit, which is a 180 BP special Z-move. This allows it to nuke the Steelixes and Dons that think that Accelgor is locked into a move (haven't encountered a Rhydon yet, but it is a theoretical bop), sometimes preventing the opponent from ever getting rocks up on the field. Final Gambit can also proceed to block spins and defogs while doing decent damage, before you scare them out with another threat. Pretty cool mon overall and hopes it sees more light in this meta

vs Xatu:
252 SpA Accelgor Bug Buzz vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Xatu: 165-195 (49.4 - 58.3%) -- 66.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

vs Steelix:
252 SpA Accelgor Bug Buzz vs. 244 HP / 128 SpD Steelix: 73-87 (20.7 - 24.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Accelgor All-Out Pummeling (180 BP) vs. 244 HP / 128 SpD Steelix: 390-460 (110.7 - 130.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

vs Rhydon:
252 SpA Accelgor Bug Buzz vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Eviolite Rhydon: 105-124 (25.3 - 29.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Accelgor All-Out Pummeling (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Eviolite Rhydon: 278-328 (67.1 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

vs Slowbro:
252 SpA Accelgor Bug Buzz vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Slowbro: 294-348 (74.6 - 88.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Dodrio @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Early Bird
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Mirror Move
- Brave Bird
- Frustration / Quick Attack
- Jump Kick / Knock Off

Mirror Move is a super cool move that gives Dodrio +2 Attack (similar to Swords Dance), as well as uses the opponent's move against the opponent, but in Z-move form (e.g. Opponent's Close Combat -> All Out Pummeling). This is amazing, allowing Dodrio to set up a Swords Dance equivalent very safely; and allowing Dodrio to clean up opponents with its classic powerful coverage. Although Mirror Move fails if the opponent switches out, it doesn't matter that much because Dodrio will still be able to get its +2 boost safely. What's even more amazing is the fact that the Z-move that is used will also be boosted by the +2 Swords Dance boost from Mirror Move, allowing any physical attack to be extremely deadly if the opponent stays in.

However, Dodrio really needs support. It's 110 base Speed, as many have noted, is very good but not great, leaving it outsped by stuff like Sneasel, Cinccino, and Sceptile, and other Choice Scarf users. Therefore it can only clean up slower teams; revenge killers will give it major problems and it won't be able to set up early in the game. Also, Jump Kick is still slightly weak, and Dodrio fails to OHKO Steelix and Rhydon even after the boost.

Therefore, to maximize Dodrio's potential, perhaps speed control like Sticky Web, Thunder Waving faster opponents, or Tailwind could make for great support for this set. Or the player can use it the old-fashioned way and simply kill all faster opponents before attempting to sweep.

Replays:
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-607656016 Dodrio's Z-Mirror Move in action; had the potential to sweep the team if I had set up SR :x
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-607657805 Dodrio sweep in action; after eliminating all faster opponents (Choice Scarf Emboar) and some prior damage onto Steelix, it can easily clean up games.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-607657751 Dodrio can sweep the normal way without a boost as well, if it isn't needed; Flyinium Z can still give Dodrio a 1-shot Supersonic Skystrike.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-607660149 Z-Mirror Moved Bullet Punch -> Corkscrew Crash deals massive damage.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-607662127 Dodrio cleans up easily after all faster opponents are dead.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-607661786 However, the user should take careful note that a +2 Dodrio still is not powerful enough to OHKO everything; physically defensive threats may take a hit and hurt Dodrio because of its lack of bulk.

I can fly (Golurk) @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Polish
- Shadow Punch
- Fly

Sooo, dunno if I'm the only one but I always thought it was cool/funny af that Golurk is able to learn Fly and wanted to use it properly on a competitive team. The reason I decided to give this a shot was when I was looking for a mon that could act as a spinblocker on a hazard stack HO but Golurk ended up being much more than a spinblocker that beats Hitmontop and Hitmonlee (if you don't switch it in on a Knock Off).

There are plenty of threatening fighting types in NU right now and with this set Golurk can take advantage of that quite well. SuperSonic Skystrike one-shots all of them and thanks to the Z crystal weakening Knock Off, as well as Golurk's solid natural bulk, most of them have a hard time KO'ing it in return, even Guts Machamp has only 25% to OHKO from full, while Virizion's Leaf Blade has a 12,5% chance without a damage-boosting item.

If you look through the upper ranks of the viability ranking, you'll notice that Ground/Flying/Ghost coverage in general hits a lot of them really hard, which can allow Golurk to either weaken opposing teams early on (while ideally spinblocking as well) or even outright sweep late game by setting up a Rock Polish. These set up opportunities aren't that hard to find with Golurk's typing + bulk and because of the latter its not that easy to revenge kill either.

Here are 2 replays that showcase Golurk's potential as late-game sweeper pretty well:
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-613142456 --> Golurk literally 6-0'd
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nubeta-613113402

Regarding the spread, Jolly over Adamant might be worth considering to not speed-tie with Adamant Max Speed Machamp and get the jump on base 80 Scarfers after a Rock Polish if you don't mind the loss of power.

qsns first got this idea yesterday when we were building, and I thought it was a really cool set so I decided to build a team with it and use it more. I found it pretty useful and surprising, being able to lure opposing Seismitoad with Grass Knot, and Whimsicott / Rotom-Mow / Sceptile who would think they can safely switch into Seismi, but they just die to Sludge Wave. E-Belt helps you do decent damage against tons of stuff and can make your opponent think you're Specs, if you haven't revealed SR yet. I think this set -- and offensive Seismitoad in general -- can be really good in the current megatame.

So, this is theoretically the coverage that covers the largest percentage of the NU meta, using Dgleam to easily run through the rising Guzzlord, while keeping Grass Knot to bowl through Slowbrothers, Rhydon, and Seismitoad. Giving up Psychic stab hurts, yeah, but all it really hurts you vs is Golbat, which is why Firium-z is cool, although Colbur Berry has immense use vs pokemon such as Houndoom and Sneasel. Not much more to say, but Dgleam OHKOs standard Guzzlord after a CM, and you do standard Delphox stuff otherwise.

Scrafty. This pokemon is a monster. I remember using it since gen 5, but only now has scrafty potential been fully utilized. It's most dangerous set, by far, is the infamous Dragon Dance+Shed Skin. Kills all stall, bar quagsire, and can easily get to +2 (sweeping range) against the passive pokemon it lures in. It is perhaps the most underrated pokemon possible, and is easily deserving of at least A rank.

Luxray @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wild Charge
- Facade
- Superpower
- Crunch

I started using this mon for a bit of fun but then when I found it putting work in almost every game I... actually wasn't really that surprised. This mon totally shreds most balance squads; it has basically no switch-ins (Facade 2HKOs Slowbro for fuck sake; if it's neutral to that shit it's probably dropping) and it seriously pressures players who give it any room to breathe. Wild Charge nails shit that's weak to it; Facade is the strongest move vs. anything that's neutral to it+not weak to other moves (generally v. spammable); Superpower bops shit like Rhydon while also 2HKOing Steelix and also fucks Togedemaru up if anyone still uses that; Crunch hits Gourgeist and Rotom which resist all of Luxray's moves while providing recoil-free ways of punishing Ghosts and Slowbro which have been put into range. It takes advantage of stuff like Wild Charge-locked Emboar, fat Water-types, and anything slower which is OHKOed by Facade to pretty much force my opponent into a position where they are just kinda picking their sac. Don't take my word for it either: I've linked a few games below (some wins and some losses) which illustrate this, granted the replays are of varying quality.

Just to illustrate how devistating Facade is:
252+ Atk Guts Luxray Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 160-189 (40.6 - 47.9%) -- 63.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Edit: 'cuz Punch said to calc this:
252+ Atk Guts Luxray Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Seismitoad: 205-242 (49.5 - 58.4%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nu-650500015 - Opponent isn't very good, but it takes advantage of a switch it forces vs Scrafty to force the opponent into eventually saccing Vikavolt; later it forces my opponent to sac Jellicent as they don't have any way of really handling Luxray other than revenge killing it.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nu-650880543 - I lost this one because I sacced Luxray for no reason and concequently lost my only way of consistently pressuring Type: Null, but it takes advantage of a Wild Charge lock on Emboar to deal over 50% to Slowbro, remove Rhydon, and remove Sneasel.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nu-650883744 - Takes advantage of Lanturn's Volt Switch to activate Flame Orb, forces out a weakened Druddigon to punch holes in the opposing team.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nu-650895359 - Takes advantage of Wild Charge lock to force Steelix out for Probo to use and abuse; forces Slowbro out and leaves no real options open other than saccing Rotom-C to rocks, makes it safe to use Aerial Ace to revenge kill Dodrio without fearing the Slowbro due to the fact that it can take a hit and leaves no endgame options open to my opponent other than sacc the Slowbro and lose to Scarf Aerial Ace or sacc the Emboar and then lose to Bug Bite if Lux kills itself attacking Emboar (it probably wouldn't have KO'd itself, but hypothetically speaking).

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nu-650897742 - I play really poorly around this Whimsicott but come out on top anyway; Luxray turns Golbat into a liability while my opponent has no real way of dealing with it (although that Whimsi somehow lived a Facade, implying it was some dong like max HP or smth).

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7nu-650901484 - I lost this game due to me doing my thing of not making the safe plays when I need to make the safe plays, but Orphic sums it up pretty well in chat. I won't explain this one, just watch the game and pay attention to what me+Orphic say in chat at a few points throughout the game.

This underrated set is a little more customizable with an option to go full physical or full special even mixed with fire blast whether if your team can deal with Steelix or Slowking better. Z-Memento is basically healing wish except it doesn't heal status (might seem like a downside but better with Guts-esque mons) but also gives leeway for any set up sweepers. If you don't feel if you need to use Z-Memento in a given matchup, a Z-boosted Dark nuke is perfectly usable. Acid Spray + Dark Z does a shit ton as well.

Forgot to mention this in my last post, but I am also using this cool set in those replays:

Slowbro @ Eject Button
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
- Toxic / Calm Mind

Eject Button Slowbro is a great way of getting wallbreakers (such as Luxray in the replays in the quoted post) and soft checks to things onto the field to do their job safely, benefitting from Regenerator and Slowbro's totally absurd physical bulk to shut down U-turn attempts, certain type locks and whatever else in order to safely pivot into Pokemon that may not be able to switch in otherwise. Given that Slowbro will usually lose its item before things get the chance to use Knock Off, it serves a similar purpose to a psuedo-Colbur Berry in a lot of respects given that Slowbro doesn't really fear too much from Pursuit regardless anyway, and it's just a really cool option on bulky offensive teams imo.

Replays: look at the Luxray post I made the other day; some of them show the set off really nicely.

Mesprit @ Fairium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Grass Knot

I've been using this a bit as of late and I feel like it's a great metagame pick. It's probably pretty weird to see Mesprit without a Psychic move, but I think that the best way to use this guy is actually with other Psychic types, such as Delphox, and then make the most of the luring earlier on in games. Thunderbolt is pretty huge for Xatu while also hitting Slowbro, Grass Knot is really helpful for Seismitoad, Rhydon, and even doing a ton to Steelix, and Z-Dazzling Gleam is mainly for Dark types, but it also OHKOs any Druddigon early on, which can come into handy if you play the situation appropriately. I think I'll let the calcs below do most of the talking.

252+ SpA Mesprit Twinkle Tackle (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Druddigon: 358-422 (100 - 117.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Mesprit Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Steelix: 175-207 (49.5 - 58.6%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Mesprit Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 248 HP / 200 SpD Eviolite Rhydon: 368-436 (89.1 - 105.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Mesprit Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Seismitoad: 416-492 (100.7 - 119.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Mesprit Thunderbolt vs. 240 HP / 0 SpD Xatu: 248-294 (74.9 - 88.8%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Mesprit Twinkle Tackle (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasel: 418-492 (166.5 - 196%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Mesprit Twinkle Tackle (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Virizion: 264-312 (81.7 - 96.5%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Most of my recent NU playing has been private or for NU Seeded tournament, replays in my win posts, but I guess here is a replay of me using it in a random NU room tournament today. I do not think this is a great game because it had a bit too good of a match-up with my opponent, but I find how much work it did and the reaction to be pretty funny (no offense to my opp btw, he's a chill dude). Generally speaking, I think this set is a really underappreciated and not-thought-of lure in the tier that can see some usage, especially alongside other Psychic type special attackers.

Slowking @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Fire Blast
- Future Sight
- Zap Cannon

Mostly a meme I've been messing with but since Slowking has Assault Vest and Regen, it can afford to miss but this serves as a nice lure for other Slowbro, Slowking and basically half the tier and with a 100% chance to paralyze anything. Too good to pass and the additional coverage comes in handy.

btw considering how dead this thread is, I figure the replay rule is kind of stupid at this point. Feel free to post any sets at your leisure, but be aware they should still serve some kind of purpose and that your set might get deleted if I feel it's particularly ridiculous.

Yoshi

IT'S FINK DUMBASS
@ Grassium Z
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Work Up
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earthquake

I think as a whole Sceptile is a really underrated and underestimated Pokemon right now, and should be used a lot more in my opinion. However, in particular, people seem to overlook a seemingly niche option in Work Up Sceptile. What makes Work Up Sceptile is it 6-0s bulk. Realistically, nothing switches into a +1 Leaf Storm. The main problem with this set is that it can only run three attacks, when it really begs for four. Almost every time you click Leaf Storm, you'll have to switch. The main reason you run Hidden Power Ice is for Altaria, so if you feel comfortable with that you can certainly replace HP Ice with Giga Drain. Another issue is setting up before getting Toxicd, although that isn't nearly as large of an issue as the 4MSS.

@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Zing Zap
- U-turn
- Iron Head
- Nuzzle

This probably isn't as prominent as the above set, but I find this set really fun so I thought I'd post it. Togedemaru's attack is pretty underrated in my opinion, hitting 309 with Jolly iirc. Electric + Steel coverage is really annoying for most teams to deal with bar Steelix, which gets U-Turned out on. Having a fast paralysis is also pretty cool, being able to shut down Pokemon that annoy your team. Sneasel, Cryogonal, Sigilyph, and Whimsicott are all things threatened by this set. I'd like to elaborate more, but I'm out of time so, enjoy!

sd and av outclasses, but this set is hella fun. speed evs allow it to outspeed max speed neutral 50s while the rest of the evs are arranged randomly to look cool (it tanks 2 scalds from bro, so thats cool i guess). functions as a nice late game cleaner once all its checks are dead and colbur has been popped on bro. intimidate is nice too as it allows it to tank neutral physical hits and proceed to set up on the switch.

Poliwrath @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 SpD
Impish Nature
- Scald
- Circle Throw
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Not really something I invented but its really effective. Poliwrath is able to check and counter a big portion of the metagame while also not letting anything come in for free (since slowbro can get shuffled around and ghost types dont really like being burned). This mon really loves hazard support and is a great partner to most of the spikers in the tier. It has the ability to beat every rocker and can recover on a great portion of the metagame.

It walls sneasel, incineroar, houndoom, rhydon, steelix, garbodor, druddigon, kabutops, miltank, piloswine, type:null and sd samurott. And it can also check klinklang, scrafty, defensive cryogonal (tho this mon does a decent chunk to wrath), hariyama and passimian.

Belly Drum Sneasel. Wait, Sneasel doesn't have access to belly drum. But it can use it consistently if you design your team in such a way where the the move Assist always pulls it.

Sneasel @ King's Rock
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Assist
- Low Kick
- Beat Up
- Ice Shard

After a little testing this I feel is its best set so far as it has the chance of taking on anything in the tier. Beat up can hit up to 6 times and has 13.5 base attack for each hit. It goes through sturdy, after math, rocky helmet, iron barbs and with kings rock at 6 hits you have about a 45% chance to flinch. This works well against pokemon like Steelix and Mega Audino. I like Brick Break better than Icicle Crash for coverage against mons like Incineroar and also you dont have a chance to miss. Finally Ice shard for priority against scarfers and faster mons like Whimiscott, Heliolisk and Dodrio.

Unfortunately in order to pull Belly Drum from Assist consistently you need to desgin your team in a specific way. In all the sets shown below the only move assist can call is belly drum so you have a bit of freedom in the sets you use. Albeit not much. These are some sets that work that you can use.

First you need your Belly Drum mon. I chose Poliwrath cause it has accesses to focus punch and circle throw. not much but at least its something. Edit but at +6 I found Dive and Dig are better to have.
Poliwrath @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Circle Throw
- Dive
- Dig

Next you just fill your team the best you can with sets with moves that wont be pulled from assist. Some set are:

Ditto an obvious choice

Rotom-Frost @ Icium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 216 HP / 160 Def / 132 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Volt Switch
- Blizzard
- Pain Split

Cool defogger doing a good job vs rockers. Z-Blizzard is a good nuke, Pain Split lets you 1v1 Piloswine and Sneasel (Knock does 35ish) and gives you some kind of recovery. Enough speed for Incineroar gives you that free Volt damage and the remaining EVs are invested in physdef. Being a Defogger that doesn't get blasted by Sneasel while also having ok offensive presence is a great thing to have. Steelvally does more or less the same but Rotom-Frost actually threatens things and has Pain Split to annoy your opponent. Anyway try it out!

nice to see this thread getting activity again :)

Guzzlord @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Knock Off
- Dragon Tail

Dark/Dragon is decent defensive typing, walling the likes of Slowbro, non-Dazzling Gleam Delphox, Houndoom and Incineroar without Fighting or Bug coverage (though EQ still exists too). You don't really need to invest in HP since Guzzlord is thicc af anyway. Impish max def lets it take like 44% from Toxicroak's Drain Punch and also wall the likes of Z-Celebrate Venusaur and non-Focus Blast Heliolisk. Knock Off, coming off base 103 Atk, still hits offensive mons hard, while Dragon Tail gives it a 33% chance to not be set up fodder while it sleeps.

Toxicroak @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Low Kick
- Gunk Shot
- Sucker Punch / Bullet Punch

Not very creative, rather just an alternative set to standard SD Croak. While Drain Punch is more consistent and provides a means of recovery as well, it just doesn't hit as hard (well it does like 40-50 to Lix so :/). Low Kick on the other hand:

vs Steelix: 252 Atk Life Orb Toxicroak Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Steelix: 242-283 (68.7 - 80.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
vs Hariyama (not sure why): 252 Atk Life Orb Toxicroak Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Hariyama: 331-391 (77.1 - 91.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
vs Cryogonal (why the heck not): 252 Atk Life Orb Toxicroak Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cryogonal: 640-756 (212.6 - 251.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
vs Guzzlord (drain punch doesn't OHKO): 252 Atk Life Orb Toxicroak Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Guzzlord: 733-866 (124.8 - 147.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
vs Rhydon: 252 Atk Life Orb Toxicroak Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 213-252 (51.4 - 60.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Low Kick hits like 80BP on the majority of the metagame. Not really the best option, but a nice alternative to have.

Incineroar @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 248 SpD / 8 Spe
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Power Trip

Cool set which absolutly obliterates stall. Also its good against most balance teams (which is the most prevelent) playstyle rn and can get out of hand really fast. Some calcs:

+6 0 Atk Incineroar Power Trip (260 BP) vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Unaware Pyukumuku: 193-228 (61.4 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+6 0 Atk Incineroar Power Trip (260 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Audino-Mega: 514-606 (125.3 - 147.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Incineroar: 96-114 (24.3 - 28.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Choice Specs Whimsicott Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Incineroar: 127-151 (32.2 - 38.3%) -- 1.5% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Vanilluxe Blizzard vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Incineroar: 102-120 (25.8 - 30.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after hail damage and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Incineroar: 134-158 (34 - 40.1%) -- 33.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

The only real checks to it are fighting types and kind of bro (but bro needs good rolls) so i would pair it with some mons which chip down fightings f.e. helmet drudd
