Project National Dex UU Victim of the Week - Week 24: Scolipede

With a tie between Cobalion and Primarina, my vote will go to Cobalion, congrats to Kyanno for winning this week's round! Your submission will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly.

Apologies for the recent delay on this one, got hung up earlier this week and this just crossed my mind. Anyhow, this week's Victim will be none other than Mienshao!

Mienshao @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Poison Jab

With how much traction its offensive sets have been gaining recently, it would be trivial to underestimate how potent Mienshao is in the current metagame, packing a blistering Speed tier, amazing coverage moves, and one of the best abilities in Regenerator. How will you defeat out latest Victim?

Deadline for submissions will be on the 8th of June, Good luck.

Fat Fuck (Hippowdon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

252 Atk Life Orb Mienshao Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon: 160-188 (38 - 44.7%)
4 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. -1 0 HP / 0 Def Mienshao: 270-318 (99.6 - 117.3%)

Counter because it can switch in forever and slack off / KO with eq after CC defense drops.

Weezing-Galar @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Neutralizing Gas
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Bomb
- Will-O-Wisp / Flamethrower
- Pain Split
- Defog

LO Mienshao's biggest strength is its ability to outlast its checks, it is impossible to wear down and wins against everything long term with a combination of rocks and u-turn.

Everything except Weezing. Neutralizing Gas negates Regenerator, meaning that if Mienshao attempts to wear down Weezing with U-turn it takes a permanent 27% from LO + Helmet. The only way Mienshao can stay alive in this MU is by hard switching on the Weezing switch in, but this is easily abusable and still prevents Mienshao from making progress. Weezing-Galar is a counter.

Counter, takes 0 damage from any Mienshao move and KO back with Close Combat

32+ Atk Buzzwole Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mienshao: 292-345 (107.7 - 127.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:Skarmory:
Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet :Rocky Helmet:
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Roost

Skarmory is a check since it gets 2HKO'd by Close Combat but if brought in safely, it walls it with Iron Defense and can either use it to set Spikes freely or just faint it with Body Press.

:Mienshao: -> :Skarmory:
252 Atk Life Orb Mienshao Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 142-168 (42.5 - 50.2%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Mienshao Close Combat vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 71-86 (21.2 - 25.7%) -- 0.5% chance to 4HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Mienshao Close Combat vs. +4 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 48-58 (14.3 - 17.3%) -- possible 6HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Mienshao Close Combat vs. +6 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 36-44 (10.7 - 13.1%) -- possible 8HKO

:Skarmory: -> :Mienshao:
252+ Def Skarmory Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mienshao: 153-181 (56.4 - 66.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Def Skarmory Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mienshao: 306-360 (112.9 - 132.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

With a landslide vote on Weezing-Galar, congrats to 3MoreMinutes for winning this week's round! Your submission will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly.

Let's move onto the next one, this week's Victim will be none other than Arctozolt!

Arctozolt @ Leftovers
Ability: Slush Rush
EVs: 204 Atk / 76 SpA / 228 Spe
Naive Nature
- Bolt Beak
- Freeze-Dry
- Blizzard
- Substitute

Seems that not all was lost in the demise of the prehistoric age. Arctozolt returns from its icy shackles to pose as a fixture on the now very terrifying Hail playstyle, boasting immense power with its STAB Bolt Beak and near-perfect coverage to boot, how will you defeat our latest Victim?

Deadline for submissions will be on the 16th of June, Good luck.

:bw/Mamoswine:
Mamoswine @ Choice Band :Choice Band:
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off

Mamoswine is immune to Bolt Beak and thanks to Thick Fat, resists Freeze-Dry and Blizzard. This allows Mamoswine to easily switch into Arctozolt and OHKO it with Earthquake. Mamoswine is also immune to hail tick considering Arctozolt will be alongside hail most of the time. Mamoswine is a counter.

:Mamoswine: -> :Arctozolt:
252+ Atk Choice Band Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 588-692 (183.1 - 215.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Choice Band Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 536-632 (166.9 - 196.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:Arctozolt: -> :Mamoswine:
76 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thick Fat Mamoswine: 90-106 (24.9 - 29.3%) -- 100% chance to 4HKO

76 SpA Arctozolt Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thick Fat Mamoswine: 58-69 (16 - 19.1%) -- possible 6HKO

:SS/Rotom-Heat:
Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split
- Toxic

204 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Heat: 105-123 (34.6 - 40.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after hail damage
76 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Heat: 55-66 (18.1 - 21.7%) -- 97.3% chance to 4HKO after hail damage

Rotom-Heat is one of the few mons that resists Arctozolt's bolt beam coverage. Bolt Beak does a lot but you force it out and get to pain split on something. Additionally, most hail structures struggle to switch into Rotom-Heat. It forces out common choices like Volcanion, Scizor, Aegislash, Salamence (if not Draco), as well as the essential Ice types.

Reserving Mega aggron

Nvm bolt beak deals stupid amount of damage, especially when mega aggron can't hold leftovers, so here's the next closest thing: mega steelix

Counter: Mega Steelix :steelix-mega:

Steelix-Mega @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Atk / 132 SpD
Adamant / Brave Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam / Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
- Toxic / Curse

Mega Steelix's typing blesses it an immunity to electric while being neutral to ice, while koing arctozolt with a STAB Earthquake, making it the perfect counter. 4x stealth rock resistance + toxic immunity makes it very hard to wear down the former without spikes. Stealth rocks is able to wear down the latter's teammate alolan ninetails, limiting the amount of times arctrozolt is able to throw out blizzards. Try not to give it too many chances to switch in and you should be fine i guess.

76 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 252 HP / 132 SpD Steelix-Mega: 108-127 (30.5 - 35.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and hail damage

124+ Atk Steelix-Mega Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 348-410 (108.4 - 127.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Why is bolt beak and fishious rend a thing?

With a majority on Rotom-Heat for Counter, congrats to 3MoreMinutes for winning this week's round! Your Submission will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly!

Let's move on to the next one, since we've managed to keep this Project running for 20 rounds now, this week's Victim will be none other than Suicune!

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Rest

Yes, an unranked Pokemon! Don't let its current ranking fool you though, as Suicune's Pressure Stall antics are more than worth considering against the occasional bulkier team, go wild with potential Checks and Counters to figure out how to best deal with our latest Victim.

Deadline for submissions will be on the 23rd of June. Good luck.
