RU National Dex RU

Heya ndru! Wanted to begin a little revive post with wishing a happy birthday to SSJRobbieRotten Dorron (I'm not late you're late) (thanks for doing everything youve been doing for the tier lately!) and Chemical_Jackfruit nice to see you coming back after rises and drops happened. Onto an actual post, with tier shifts happening and some notable rises / drops, I feel like showing some of the recent things I've been working on with hopefully more to come.

https://pokepast.es/19a387188463fb91 here to abuse:bisharp:until its ban. (holy shit dealing with this thing is annoying) Some somewhat standard bulky offense with a goofy twist of a Deoxys set, as what seems like a passable stealth rocker with emergency colbur focus blast for houndoom or the plague that bisharp has brought with it when it dropped.

https://pokepast.es/b36b96d33da73ef2 :bewear: :guzzlord: If I haven't said it enough already, attempts to deal with bisharp will be shaky and this is definitely a humorous example of this featuring some pokemon I can't say I've seen much of.

https://pokepast.es/7af6d905cb36cda9 :toxtricity: :noivern: oh god another core with a single purpose of trying to annoy bisharp

https://pokepast.es/24cc7d3fbeac0274 :Houndoom-Mega: :cobalion: :Rotom-Mow: do i need to say it again?

Tier shift joke aside, despite the tier losing some important figures, this place is in an interesting spot and I hope to see some activity around here to spice things up.

Hello people! Today I decided to write an essay on barbaracle to revive the thread. I hope you enjoy!
:ss/barbaracle:

Introduction
Barbaracle is an unconventional yet potent cleaner in the current metagame. It has plenty of opportunities to set up thanks to its decent bulk, and often it wins on the spot after one free turn to shell smash.

Set
Barbaracle @ Rockium Z
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 244 Atk / 8 Def / 16 SpD / 240 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Stone Edge
- Liquidation
- Aerial Ace
Aerial ace is the best option for the last slot imo because it can lure chesnaught. The other 2 appealing choices are low kick and grass knot, however grass knot doesn't even kill the main target (gastrodon) without life orb, so I wouldn't recommend it. Low kick is also interesting to beat empoleon, along with doing more damage to mega aggron and ohko cobalion, however coba and magg can be beaten with a little patience and chip anyways, so while these moves aren’t bad, the ability to eliminate chesnaught is much more useful. The defense evs live scarf flygon earthquake, while the spdef lives support sylveon’s hyper voice after rocks and a shell smash. Jolly nature is needed to outspeed scarf zarude.

Checks and Counters
The best counter to barbaracle is gastrodon, although it does need to be kept above 65 to make sure continental crush doesn’t have a chance to kill. Lots of rockers can be good checks to it, such as seismitoad, cobalion, mega aggron, empoleon, and registeel, but these also have to be kept in good condition to ensure things don’t get dicey. There aren’t many checks besides this, but good play can still beat barbaracle. Offensive pressure to ensure it never has the chance to set up is effective but must constantly be maintained. Luring the zmove, then sacrificing something and following up with a grass or water is also a good strategy but of course it’s better to not have to get into that risky situation in the first place.

Teammates
Teambuilding with barbaracle is an interesting prospect, because while it is effective lategame, it has to be kept healthy until the other team is worn down enough, so it must have really good support. My favorite barbaracle teammate is mega aggron, because not only can it wear down other steel types into barb kill range with body press, but it also it toxics seismitoad and gastrodon. Lures are also useful, hp grass volcanion can be very good at this. Defog support is very important, barb has way less opportunities to set up after rocks than at full. Grasses that can beat gastrodon such as roserade and zarude are useful.

Teams
FEED THE BEAST (pokepast.es) - I built this a few weeks ago because I hadn’t used barb in a while. There are a few interesting ideas on this team, such as no spikes roserade, so that hp fire can be run to weaken steels. This hasn’t been the worst set, but also its not quite as successful as I hoped it would be, so spikes may be better. I have no idea why the flygon is soft sand, derp suggested it (s/o to derp for helping me with both of these teams), so you would have to ask derp what it actually does. The deo-d mu is pretty bad here, the only real chances are toxicing it with raikou and tricking it with garde, unless barb has had a chance to set up, which I would find unlikely if there is an opposing deoxys. Hopefully it will be banned soon though.

THORN IN YOUR SIDE (pokepast.es) - I built this for a tour like 6 months ago, but it honestly probably still works fine. The crobat is 252 atk because the scarf rude mu is covered by mega aggron already, and if it’s possible to run 252 atk is a really fun set. Pretty conventional beyond that and the fact that the volcanion is running hp grass to lure gastrodon

Conclusion
Overall, barbaracle can be very scary to many team structures, but still has flaws such as prediction reliance. Even with these flaws I still think it is worthy of at least A- rank.

Oh no. Oh no no no no no.

I mean we still have Empoleon and Mega Aggron and stuff it shouldn't be that bad, right?
We'll see, but I highly doubt it can stay.

Even if it can't rip apart everything, there runs the risk that it it'll become too overcentralizing, especially since Z-Belly Drum looks terrifying.

Dislodging it look was harder here since we generally have a way lower power level than UU. However, there are some great mons that check it, such as Raikou or Roserade, so we'll see.

Kind of a random thing but while i was eating i thought to myself something, "Why is this X mon set worse in RU than in UU?", so i decided to compile this on a post for fun and also get some activity on the thread (Kaede is being the new R8 graveyard reminder).

:ss/zarude:
Zarude @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power Whip
- Darkest Lariat
- Jungle Healing
- Bulk Up
Bulk Up Zarude is known for being a great wallbreaker that even things like Skarm aren't hable to fend off thanks to its Speed, Bulk, Typing and having the most borked healing move in the game that's basically a free abuse button for Waters and many Aegislash variants in order to grab a boost and proceed to nearly everything that's slower, even with things such as Mega Altaria, Goltres, Buzzwole and faster mons such as Scarf Mienshao, Mega Manectric, Tornadus-Incarnate and others roaming around it remains as one of the best Zarude sets that could maybe even be considered better than the usual Pivot variant.

So with that in mind, Why Is It Bad Down Here? It's not that its bad but the methods of walling and outspeeding it are WAY more common than in UU. It's not missing out on spots to setup as waters are plenty in the metagame such as Gastrodon, Milotic or Alomomola as well as others such as Mega Steelix, Most Zygarde-10% variants, Registeel, Aura Sphere-less Raikou and even the mighty Deoxys-Defense and its demonic set but the massive influence of counters and checks makes it much more difficult to do anything beyond the setup. Pokemon like Cobalion, Togekiss, Chesnaught, Mega Aggron or Incineroar give it a massive tough time by themselves but alongside Cobalion you also have Mega Houndoom, Crobat, Scarf Flygon, Azelf, Noivern and many others being excellent at stopping it from going any further. It might not be completely garbage but its not that great either due to these factors compared to the tier above.

:ss/azelf:
Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Explosion
- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
A pretty self explanatory and classic set since ages, Azelf in general has been raising a lot when the meta started to have less and less Psychic type competition but this set was an exception because it was the unique thing that made it different and worthy of a slot on many Hyper Offense builds thanks to the speed tier outspeeding a lot of the tier in order to get up rocks and momentum with Explosion. Compared to other rockers like Krookodile or even Deoxys-Defense, the Speed alongside Taunt always gave it an advantage in the leading matchup vs other rockers as they simply were unable to properly start the game, it does suffer from non-rock lead matchups such as Regieleki, Grimmsnarl and even Ribombee which is something that the other 2 didn't had to deal with much but this was manageable with proper team support.

If Azelf is that good with these kind of matchups, Why Is It Bad Down Here? There's not Hatterene here which is a fairly bad matchup while also not having much competition for a lead and still being great vs regular builds. Well that's fairly simple to answer in that Hyper Offense was just A BIT too powerful for the tier due to Grimmsnarl being an absolute demon of a screens setter as well as other specific builds that enabled monsters such as Necrozma, Galarian Moltres, Metagross, Slurpuff and others that used Klefki. In general, Hyper Offense was seen as overpowered even when many of its abusers were banned since others like Cobalion or Mega Houndoom could take up their place and so it was taken action agaisn't Light Clay since Grimmsnarl wasn't the only culprit around anymore. Once Light Clay got banned, Hyper Offense died and so did Lead Azelf which is currently only seen on certain webs builds and webs aren't that great, as for Azelf itself it simply adapted and went to other builds with Boots Pivot or even Nasty Plot but the Lead set is gone for good by now.

:ss/togekiss:
Togekiss @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash
- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
- Dazzling Gleam
- Trick
i don't actually remember what the set ran but this was apparently the reason it was kept ranked for a while and im also using this as an excuse to add a 3rd choice before extras lol
So yeah the difference in viability from this mon in UU and RU is night and day but what's interesting is that UU kept it mostly because of Choice Scarf since it was a somewhat decent Speed Control and a Flinch Fisher with good natural bulk and a decent defensive typing for stuff like Buzzwole or Zarude.

Say it with me guys, Why Is It Bad Down Here? It's not really worth taking the thing that makes Togekiss so valuable in the tier which is the utility that it brings up in the table with standard defensive variants that are a check to pmuch everything. Defog, Heal Bell, Thunder Wave and more options made it extremely splashable and varied which makes it an excellent well-rounded pokemon in the tier that deals with so many threats such as Zarude, Crobat, Zygarde-10%, Flygon, Golisopod, Noivern and even huge wallbreakers like Golurk, as well as being good at keeping hazards off with great longevity agaisn't most Rockers such as Rhyperior, Mega Steelix and Mega Aggron or Cobalionand having from decent to great matchups with the Spikers from the tier such as Roserade, Chesnaught or Golisopod. Nasty Plot sets keep the amazing defensive utility and instead of supporting its team, it uses it to threaten teams on its own with great coverage options like Flamethrower or Aura Sphere that make usual switchins such as Electrics or Steels like Raikou or the mentioned Megas to think twice about abusing standard variants. Scarf is more or less unexplored since its hard to drop what makes Togekiss good but it might get some attention now who knows.

EXTRAS: :deoxys-defense: Spikes sets are absolutely amazing and if it wasn't for a certain demonic set i wouldn't make an extra about it and it wouldn't be SO MUCH more banworthy than what it already is

:rhyperior: Rocks Rhyperior is great but the presence of Waters and Grasses alongside not actually being an Electric check most of the time makes it kind of hard to use, but it rewards with the trades that Rhyperior has and its by no means a bad choice.

If you came all the way here or maybe you just skipped it, i wouldn't blame you honestly then thanks for reading this post and shoutouts to both the National Dex UU and National Dex RU community, yall are goated and lets see how the metas progress in this time to see how different mons can be if they're available in both tiers.

Deoxys-Defense has been banned from National Dex RU!
:sm/Deoxys-Defense:

Deoxys-Defense @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 24 SpD / 236 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Taunt
- Seismic Toss
- Spikes

Deoxys has established itself as the best spikes setter in the tier. It has good speed and access to taunt which means most defoggers cannot do anything to stop it from layering spikes. Some spinners (Dhelm and toxic Starmie) can beat it but they are not very common. In terms of common counterplay there isn’t much, mostly just Zarude, Mega Houndoom, and Golurk. Zarude is the only mon on this list with longevity but often it has to drop recovery and run scarf anyways, so Deo can pretty easily outlast its checks in the long run. In addition to this it is a great stallbreaker with taunt and seismic toss.

Deoxys-Defense @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Cosmic Power
- Taunt
- Recover
- Night Shade

As if spikes Deo wasn’t enough to contend with, someone had to come up with this set. Deo can utilize free turns from taunt to cosmic power and become even bulkier than it already is. This makes reliable counterplay even more difficult to find since teams must cover both sets.

For these reasons, Deoxys has been banned.

IMPORTANT
:ss/togekiss:
This is a post in order to inform the problems that this tier has currently gotten after seeing the updated builder, there has been a lot of controversy that im gonna get through in this post as much as i can so im soirry if im missing out on something, you can talk to me in Discord if you wanna know more about this.

1: Unfinished Bans

:ss/crawdaunt: :ss/buzzwole:

It has been found out that both Crawdaunt and Buzzwole Were Never Actually BANNED, Which effectively makes these legal at the moment of this post. This comes due to errors and forgotten things that could cause a lot of issues. Crawdaunt to begin with has been on council discussion and voted for a ban but after doing some of the research, no announcement or post has been found that proved its ban which means that its currently legal because we forgot to actually announce it (im including myself here since i was around that time). Buzzwole has been at the very beginning and it was probably planned but eventually raised to UU and much much later on it dropped without anyone noticing as it has been listed as RUBL anyway, just like Crawdaunt there wasn't anything that proved action agaisnt it and thus it became legal due to this. These two being in the tier can probably just cause even bigger problems than what we're dealing with already but it also shows how untreated things went.

2: Outdated Thread

:ss/unown-question::ss/unown-question:

Due to SSJ's constant work in university and more stuff in real life, the thread has been left unchecked for a WHILE, pretty much almost every resource is outdated and its on a need of a rework. The list for UU and RUBL mons is outdated, the scrapped samples (with illegal mons) are still there, and more stuff im not pointing out for now. This is a huge problem because this thread is mainly to introduce new people with the resources (that still need to be worked on more) but due to no one being able to edit them at the moment and SSJ not always being available, its better to look through the Discord Server which is not always ideal for some people.

3: Meta Inactivity

:ss/mimikyu-busted: :ss/yamask:

The biggest offender by far that has been traumatizing the tier since it has been born and now its taken more seriously here. The meta and council have never been the most active thing in the world but this also left with everything going more downhill than people already saw, matches always being with nearly the same people, the actually active members aren't even council for most of the time, council discussion (that i have to bring up despite leaving my position as TL and council) coming in just to say hi and leave, yep that's how much it really lasts since its a few talks between 2 or 3 people (out of 6 if i include myself onto this) and then it goes back to the graveyard to rest in peace. Another issue woud also be not taking advantage of events such as RU Snake or Triple Crown for meta development but the first one i can say that was my fault while also being around the time i left due to things being hard for me and lack of motivation for building.

4: My Thoughs

This is just a bad management (both from them and myself but i also deeply apologize for the others too) that cursed the tier, i did try to give some suggestions in how to make things less inactive but in the end its still the same and it really makes me sad as a former main of this tier with really nice people but the problems keep growing and growing with no one to even fix them. All of this needs to be checked on quickly if the tier wants to keep some of its reputation and be more careful with these mistakes, otherwise we're just getting National Dex Balanced Hackmons Part 2, i don't wanna be rude on this but things have really been out of hand lately and the current discussion on the main server has gotten me to talk about this once and for all.

National Dex RU
The tier that had all of the potential in the world, and by my opinion, it still does. There are many ways in solving the issues in which Mareanie had stated which I agree with to an extent, so instead of clowning it, lets get some things done as a community instead. Since we stagnated for a bit, I will start us off with some suggestions with a fairly large post to get everyone started.
Viability Rankings
I think that the way in which this is presented is fairly complex and unnecessary. A much better way to show this would be in the OP, where the banlist for all of the metas(?) are to show it to be more professional and simply easier to access. From this, they desperately need updating in which I will do my own personal one here: Green=Increased Red=Decreased

I'll run over the main shifts or the ones people may be confused with:
Increases
:Volcanion: -> S -> If you play this tier you know how versatile yet powerful this Pokemon is. It absolutely nails everything in A+/A and spreads Toxic to the bulky Water-types. Pair this with Wish support and its ridiculous to handle.
:aggron-mega: -> A+ ->Absolute brickwall, the Steel-type go-to if you are looking for a balanced core with a SRock setter that matches up well into every defogger/spinner bar Starmie. The bulk on this is illegal, especially when compared to most Pokemon hitting it super effectively on the physical side only.
:houndoom-mega: -> A+ -> Extremely potent wallbreaker that very few things can handle, fairly hard to revenge kill due to its great speed. Many builds run a core with Roserade and becomes nasty with Spikes pairing.
:diancie: -> A- -> Is able to deal with Houndoom-Mega to a great extent, provide Stealth Rock, and Cleric support and overall a solid glue Pokemon that can be paired with Aggron and Roserade
:Starmie: -> A -> Is the only Pokemon who can reliably take hazards off the field while in front of Volcanion. It also has great matchups into setters such as Roserade, Rhyperior, Steelix etc.

Decreases
:Togekiss: -> A+ -> I wouldn't say its topdog anymore, its niche is still great though Volcanion has far more prowess at the moment. I firmly believe for something to be worthy of S tier, it should only be itself there
+ :arctozolt: -> B+ -> Hail is not looking strong at the moment due to the defensive king Aggron being everywhere, whilst Scarf Zarude + Flygon exist to completely stop this.

I put the cut off at B Tier intentionally as most of the Pokemon below this were niche, outdated, or flat-out just bad. I think its more appropriate and easier to maintain that was rather than having to justify bad mons or UR some.

Wanted to build around BigGron. SRock + Mismagius is lethal when Nasty Plotted. Ghostium-Z can OHKO SpD Aggron, Tbolt for Haze Milotic, Gleam for Zarude. Great typing pairing between the two. Volcanion is extremely splashable right now, i used him as a deffoger as my team doesn't struggle with the setters at all. Aids breaking through Roserade cores for Mismagius. Team is looking fairly weak to Houndoom as of now so I use Diancie as my check, with Hazard + Cleric support too. Next i needed to ensure that Diancie stays healthy so Wish support Togekiss was needed. Finally, Zygarde-10% is a great wincon which i thought my team lacked. Skitter Smack ensure I don't fall to Choice Scarf Zarude.

As a community, we can update everything to make the tier its best, Goodnight!

Hey everyone, I've come to make an apology

For a while ND RU has been in a state of disarray, with it becoming more inactive and it's resources got more and more outdated. As TL, this is solely my fault, and I take full responsibility for it. The Council is not to blame, as they were trying to keep the Meta alive, and often did the work I should've done. In particular Lupla wasn't even Council during this, and he deserves no blame despite anything he says.

The source of my inactivity was University Applications and extremely personal stuff that I can't go into, with the result being that I was extremely busy and could not focus on developing the tier. However, this is not an excuse: if I had any sense I'd have had someone else take over when I was unable to. While the post made earlier might've been harsh, it was an important wake up call. I realize I have failed this tier and my fellow players, and the tier cannot to continue in this state. Fortunately, what's keeping me busy will effectively be over by the end of the week, and even then starting from today I will start working to fix the problems I created through my negligence.

Firstly, the Council has been restructured. It now consists of me, Furret4SSB, Dorron, Derpyboi, and Lupla. The four players chosen have consistently shown their care and interest in the tier, and very much deserve their role here.

In terms of fixing the tier, it was noted that due to my laziness, the Banned Pokemon List was outdated and riddled with errors. I have since fixed the BL list, and promise to continue to update it vigilantly for as long as I hold ownership of the OP from now on.

For the weird semi-banned status of Crawdaunt and Buzzwole, this can be attributed that to a mistake I made while creating the tiering history. Due to the tier originating in a Discord Server, I had to use the ban announcements in the announcements channel in order to piece together the tiering history when making the OP. However, either through a failure on my part to announce the bans, or their Ban Announcement posts somehow getting deleted before this thread was made, these Pokémon's announcements were missing despite them being added to BL and thus being treated as such for months. I genuinely don't know how it got this way, though hopefully the existence of this thread will negate that issue since we no longer have to rely on Discord Messages for that. Whether or not one considered them banned, either way consider Crawdaunt and Buzzwole formally Banned from Nat Dex RU!

:ss/crawdaunt: :ss/buzzwole:

While there may be further actions regarding them in the future, at the present moment there are far more pressing issues in the Meta.

Next, there concerns the outdated resources, notably the VR. These will take some time to update, though expect an update within a reasonable time.

Finally, while the tier might take a while to get running, expect to see more activity for the tier, whether it be from projects or necessary bans.

I do sincerely apologize for the state I left the tier in. While it may've not been my intention, it was purely through my lack of care that the tier got this way, with me failing to fulfill my roles as TL. What happened has sadly happened, however, the tier is far from unsalvageable, and I promise to be the Tier Leader needed to keep the tier going from now on. Sorry for the mess I've created, I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Haven't done a VR post in this thread at all i think so im gonna do it altho a bit iffy (and also just in case, avoiding double posting for SSJ).

:ss/magneton:UR to C/B-

While this is an electric type that tries to wallbreak it suffers from competition with Toxtricity which is usually easier to slap on teams, it has much more power and slightly more variety (tho not really relevant). Magneton makes its name thanks to its Steel typing granting it a lot of resistances and the same inmunnity to Toxic but the main reason comes in Magnet Pull, The popularity of M-Aggron is huge for it since it can trap it and either chip it hard or kill it without the wish passers being able to save it at all while also abusing the wish passers themselves, while Tri Attack doesn't have the same power as Boomburst, it does the job at handling resists such as Raikou, Toxtricity or Arctozolt. Flash Cannon is also a better tool for things such as Diancie, Flygon, Zygarde-10%, Golurk and more since some of them usually tried to switch around Toxtricity into resists or inmunnities but with Magneton it becomes a lot harder since it has 2 more moves in order to delete them.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldexuu-1559938577-ff5qr2j6i229bjf6bqxwu1186aotkpqpw Magneton traps the sleeping M-Aggron (altho it didn't matter much, it made the long run easier).

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldexuu-1559942564-ztwhcu3zsb7megxss2ovun6rltyvkgfpw while i did played horrible here and even my Magneton lacked Flash Cannon because of an error LOL, i was able to open holes with it and eventually i would have won in a pp war.

:ss/darmanitan: From B+ to A-

This is mostly supporting Reece's post because this is a really good cleaner in the late game while also being decent speed control, partners such as Zarude, Crobat or Noivern backing up nicely and forcing out from stuff like Non-Scarf Zarude, Cobalion, Azelf, Mega Houndoom, Raikou to walls such as Mega Aggron, Mega Steelix, Registeel, Sylveon, Starmie, Chesnaught but also neutral targets like Non-Scarf Flygon, Empoleon, Zygarde-10% aren't fond in taking Darm's U-Turn or Flare Blitz and take unnecesary chip damage (which also applies to the steel megas). It suffers from being too vulnerable to rocks, which means you have to play carefully unless you want your momentum to slowly go down (Boots is an option that trades speed for longevity although Scarf is usually better) but its a really good wallbreaker nonetheless.

:ss/grimmsnarl: :ss/linoone: :ss/slurpuff: :ss/froslass: From C+, B, B and C- to UR

Screens HO is dead, Light Clay is banned, Grimmsnarl is horribad now, Linoone and Slurpuff also suffer from this since they needed Screens to safely setup due to poor bulk (Puff has it better because you can SORT of use Webs but still), Froslass was here and i don't know why but its just bad because Boots are everywhere.

Stay safe everyone and also wait for the next real VR Update since a long time!.

Hey all, big announcement, Azumarill and Keldeo are Banned from Nat Dex RU!
Azumarill.jpg

:ss/Azumarill:

Right after Azumarill was deemed not broken enough for UU, Ladder decided to give us a little present. To put it simply, Azumarill is among the most ridiculous Pokémon ever to grace this tier.

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Steelix-Mega: 242-288 (68.3 - 81.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Liquidation vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Aggron-Mega: 121-144 (35.2 - 41.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 225-265 (57.2 - 67.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Togekiss: 199-235 (53.3 - 63%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 246-289 (57.7 - 67.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 76 Def Empoleon: 197-232 (52.9 - 62.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Roserade: 274-323 (84.5 - 99.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 165-195 (45.4 - 53.7%) -- 41% chance to 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Houndoom-Mega: 260-308 (89.3 - 105.8%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 144-171 (46.3 - 54.9%) -- 62.9% chance to 2HKO

While it can't OHKO everything, Azumarill is absurdly hard to switch into, and will pretty much cause a 50/50 whenever it's able to enter the field. In particular most offensive threats will either be OHKOed or put on their last legs. And Azumarill's exceptionally strong Aqua Jet is also a major threat, often 2HKOing many neutral targets.

With this in mind, while Azumarill is exceptionally scary, Choice Band can be seen as borderline since Azumarill is quite slow and isn't that bulky. It's powerful, but not really a contender for the literal worst thing to ever grace this tier. That honor, however, may very well go to Belly Drum.

Azumarill @ Normalium Z
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldexuu-1546868078-7xei5t93wr6dgezlggjspmdrmugh3d0pw - funny game

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Roserade: 225-266 (69.4 - 82%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 382-450 (102.1 - 120.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Steelix-Mega: 306-360 (86.4 - 101.6%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 191-225 (61.4 - 72.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 469-552 (110 - 129.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Aggron-Mega: 255-300 (74.3 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 597-703 (151.9 - 178.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

As shown here, Belly Drum is comically overpowered. Its Aqua Jet has the capability of OHKOing Water resists, along with most of the tier. Oftentimes extremely minimal chip is needed to pretty much insta-win the game. And unlike CB, where Walls could often try to stop it, here being a wall just means you probably can't KO Azumarill even if you outspeed, so you'll likely just be eviscerated in return. Azumarill is also not super frail, and that combined with Z-Belly Drum means that as long as you don't try setting up vs. something like Roserade, Belly Drum is effectively guaranteed to go off.

While there are some answers to Belly Drum, notably Mega Aggron, Azumarill is already very centralizing with its CB set, so allowing Belly Drum will pretty much flatline any diversity in the tier. For these reasons, Pikablu has been banned.

:ss/Keldeo:

Keldeo is an exceptionally dangerous threat that has sadly has shown to be too much for the tier. Similar to Azumarill, while it can be checked offensively, it completely shreds defense, and threatens offense even more due to its great base speed.

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Flip Turn / Scald / Surf

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Roserade: 147-174 (45.3 - 53.7%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Roserade: 172-204 (53 - 62.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Starmie: 153-180 (47.2 - 55.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sylveon: 160-190 (40.6 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Crobat: 321-378 (85.8 - 101%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Crobat: 214-254 (57.2 - 67.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 160-189 (51.4 - 60.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 428-508 (137.6 - 163.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 178-210 (49 - 57.8%) -- 95.7% chance to 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Togekiss: 175-207 (46.7 - 55.3%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Raikou: 267-315 (83.1 - 98.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

As shown here, Choice Specs Keldeo has a severe shortage in switch ins. Its sheer power makes it exceptionally difficult to come into, as most defensive staples of the tier get curb stomped by its powerful Hydro Pumps and Secret Swords. This is augmented by coverage in Icy Wind, preventing otherwise strong checks such as Noivern from coming in easily. Keldeo is somewhat prediction reliant, but the fact of the matter is that virtually every time Keldeo comes in usually 50/50 scenario shall be enacted.

Specs Keldeo also remains an exceptionally strong choice against offense. Most threats are either blown away or put on their absolute last legs. Keldeo’s Speed Tier might not reach the gold standard of 361 held by threats such as Azelf, but 346 still gets the jump on the majority of the tier, outspeeding staples such as Zarude to Roserade.

However, what puts Specs Keldeo over the edge is its sheer power. As shown in the calcs, Icy Wind isn’t even sometimes needed to score kills, as even resists such as Roserade and oftentimes 2HKOed by Keldeo’s STABs. This level of power gives Keldeo too much flexibility when it’s already so dangerous. And this isn’t even the only strong Keldeo set.

Keldeo @ Waterium Z / Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Substitute
Sub CM Keldeo exchanges immediate power to become an even scarier wincon. It now abuses most defensive threats even harder thanks to them often struggling to break through Keldeo’s Subs or threaten it substantially. In return, Keldeo can set up CM and become even harder to break. It might not be as threatening as Specs due to its lack of Icy Wind, but furthering Keldeo’s ability to punish defense with Substitute, while also combining the nuke potential of Z, further makes Keldeo too much for the tier.

Overall, these Water Types are banned due to their sheer power making them overly centralizing. With these titans gone, ND RU looks to be in a better place, and hopefully we could start unbanning Pokémon in the future.

And while we're here, everyone give a big applause and congratulations for the addition of scorbunnys onto our VR Team! A well-deserved addition.

With all that said, godspeed everyone.

Hello everyone! im happy to announce that a VR update is finally happening since...wait hold up lemme grab niadev's calendar *reads it* since...October 2021! And with this im also gonna announce two things, C+ and C- are being removed because its not really needed and it only tries to make bad mons look viable (It will be counted here for raises and drops but afterwards it dissapears), and Sample Submissions are open! for anyone who's interested in contributing for the tier you can submit samples on either the RU discussion channel on the main discord server or the ND RU server. The VR will be posted both in here and in the Google Docs as well, its probably gonna be a little bit wack for SS RU players but don't blame me i wasn't the only voter or smth kek.

I wish i had the time to do explanations since there's A LOT to cover in here but sadly i don't have the time and this took me hours which got me really tired but i can always answer anything on Discord as well as the other council members so i hope this was somewhat decent enough for everyone, if there's an error then please notify me so i can fix it and with that, enjoy!.

More of quick question here, but considering in "standard" Gen 8 metagames Sylveon is barely viable in RU but is quite viable here: why is that so? I forgot what exactly Dexit did to 'nerf' Sylveon so I'd like some clarification.
Thanks to dexit and other things like Z moves, certain megas, and cut moves, this meta is drastically different from SS RU, mostly for the better so sylveon has had a valuable role in natdex ru constantly since the tier started to exist.

Its not that there was a specific nerf, but rather in how the meta is being like at the moment, filled with many special attackers works in its favor such as Raikou, M-Houndoom, Volcanion, Noivern, Azelf, etc. Its not a hard counter but what ACTUALLY carries it is the support it brings to M-Aggron which is a menace that covers Sylveon's weaknesses while also having weaknesses covered as well, not only that but it also has both Wish and Heal Bell so it can both heal M-Aggron or wake it up from Rest. This may be an exaggeration but without M-Aggron backing it up, it would probably fall down 2 ranks since its use is mostly tied up to the best tank in the tier.

There are also pokemon that are better in this kind of enviroment too, like M-Ampharos coming back and still being an electric with an important defensive profile. Raikou has more instant pressure with Hidden Power being available and potentially CM Z variants also being an option. Comparing this to Florges, which can fit Synthesis and Wish while also having the same support and being able to afford on physical defense, Pixilate Hyper Voice is a really good move that allows you to counter or check threats more efficiently.

The meta is still being under exploration and maybe some sort of usage raise of physical attackers that are also being more looked on like Darmanitan as well as things such as Spikes Roserade or Crobat not being fun to deal with, but for now Sylveon remains as an excellent special wall that enables the 3rd (or 4th) best mon in the tier.

With permission from higher ups im gonna double post and say hi to everyone! Sorry for the inactivity in the thread recently but im happy to announce that Sample Teams were updated! Not only have that but im also announcing the Speed Tiers rework and Role Compendium update, both of them got their changes but it was never mentioned. I want to thank everyone that still gives at least some form of care to National Dex RU, we are both trying to do what we can with this small group and hoping this small project can have a better future!

Id like to give a honorable mention to this Mega Aggron Balance made by Reece which unfortunately didn't make it but it was the first submitted team for sample voting and also a really good one imo. And with that i close up this short update post (i don't have my glasses so my eyes are kinda in pain rn) tagging Gangsta Spongebob to update the thread with the new samples and i hope yall have a good day and see you soon!.

Is there a reason why Medicham is A- here when in last gen it wasn’t even viable in RU?
SM RU viability rankings show Medicham being at B-, which isn't the best spot, but at least had a small place in the meta.

SM RU was much more offensive oriented than ND RU, and Medicham is a Pokémon very hard to be checked deffensively, so it's harder for ND RU to check it. The common walls of the tier like Sylveon, Aggron, Chesnaught, Gligar, Milotic and Registeel, as well as many defensive/support slots including Water-types like Tentacruel, Lanturn, Seismitoad, Vaporeon and Gastrodon have a very bad time dealing with Medicham, as all them are 2HKOed or even OHKOed and do not outspeed it besides Tentacruel with Speed investment.

252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Sylveon: 324-382 (82.2 - 96.9%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Filter Aggron-Mega: 263-312 (76.4 - 90.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 283-338 (74.4 - 88.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 265-317 (79.3 - 94.9%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 517-611 (142 - 167.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO (be wary of protect)
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tentacruel: 429-507 (117.8 - 139.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Lanturn: 370-437 (81.4 - 96.2%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Seismitoad: 320-378 (77.2 - 91.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Vaporeon: 364-429 (78.4 - 92.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (protect)
252+ Atk Life Orb Pure Power Medicham High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 339-399 (79.5 - 93.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

all of these are 2HKOed from Zen Headbutt aswell after 1 Spike

It is aswell pretty easy to stick on many teams thanks to not usually stacking weaknesses with its teammates, Stealth Rock resist and Fighting-type not being a very common offensive type which has made the meta develop into a state in which not many deffensive staples resist Fighting-type (which is why Crabominable has a little niche aswell, both Ice- and Fighting-type).

And well there are many other reasons Medicham is great here, like meta development being sooooooooooooooooo slow so it's possible that Medicham isn't that good in October-November. Lupla disagrees on Medicham being A-, but I just tell him to l2p

I’m interested in ND RU, but I’d be more inclined to play the tier if there was an actual ladder for it, so I don’t actively have to search for someone to play with me and ultimately wait hours. :/
maybe it’s just me.
Edit: Is a there a discord or something that I don’t know about?
