Team MWP III - Discussion Thread

So I was going through the draft logs since I woke up in the latter half of the draft and discovered that my price had been artificially inflated by Zar:
[12:29] @ LuckyPiper: .nom catalystic

Let me fix this, Isza has been out of action for 'behavior issues' for a good half decade so his price approximations are a wee bit off.

best player in the draft probably, easily will get excellent value for a couple of weeks, after that who knows
Notes: Might want to be around friends? Not too sure if he builds anymore, but his playing is one of the best in the tournament pool for sure. Price Tag? 22k-30k (this one is okay if you get him for the whole tournament) I don't think he's quitting this time around though
This definitely aged well

Maskun grats on your first win on the sheet

Monotype Winter Premier III Power Rankings!
Written by Catalystic Chaitanya Floss Kev Maple Moosical Ridley and [me]
** Rankings were submitted by managers from each team and then averaged.

SS
(These rankings were done in pairs (1, 1, 2, 2, 3..., 8, 8) so they alter the overall rankings less drastically)

1st. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
Trichotomy (1), Eternal Spirit (3)

Tied for 1st along with the Incineroars in this category, the Centiskorchers pose a significant threat in SS to any team with Trichotomy and Eternal Spirit. Trichotomy is looking to build upon his strong showings in the last two MPLs that saw him net a combined record of 12-3 while playing most games in arguably the toughest slot of Bo3, picking up scalps against the likes of Feitan, Chaitanya and 1 True Lycan. While he did not gain significant experience in SS during the past MPL bar a couple of games, the metagame shift stemming from Crown Tundra should put him in good stead to outplay his opponents and pick up numerous wins in MWP as well. Meanwhile, Eternal Spirit continues his foray into Monotype tours after a superb campaign for the ring-winning Honchkrows in MPL 6 where he ended with one of the tour's best records at 6-3. ES was the Krows's most consistent player in SS, a key piece for a team that seemed to invest more resources in older generations. He will be looking to Trichotomy and It's Choco Bitch to provide him sufficient building support to replicate his showing from last MPL.

1st. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars:incineroar:
MetaRiolu7 (2), Conflux (2)

The Incineroars sport a formidable one-two punch in SS, consisting of newer Monotype players in MetaRiolu7 and Conflux. MR7 has been one of the most improved players who has burst onto the scene in the last couple of MPLs, making a name for himself as one of the most well-rounded players who can support their team in numerous tiers. While his team will be looking to him to make numerous contributions in the Mono OMs, he should be able to pick up a good record in his own slot as well after his 5-4 record in SS during MPL 6. The Incineroars also invested in Conflux, one of the best SS Monotype players, to assist MetaRiolu7 and zugubu royale with builds. However, Conflux did not perform as expected for the Miniors in the playing department and ended 3-5. This tour will be key for him to show that he can be relied on to provide wins and live up to the expectations of being the most expensive player on his team.

3rd. :miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
dahli (1), Vodoom (7)

With their draft, the Miltanks have sought to build around most of the core members of the vaunted Gengars team which made playoffs twice and won a ring in MPL. Key to picking wins up in SS will be one of the aforementioned core members in dahli. Dahli has been one of the best Monotype players in the last couple of years, backed by his excellent 9-1 record in MPL 5 as well as his 5-3 record in MPL 6. He also won a couple of games in SS during the last MPL, and the experience will serve him well in his efforts to put up another positive record this time around. Vodoom is one of the tour's wild-cards who has a high ceiling and low floor. While he finished with a 3-2 record in MPL 6 for the Bucks, there are multiple concerns surrounding him in regards to team chemistry after he was benched midseason. Vodoom can easily make a mockery of his low ranking if he gels well with the rest of the roster, made easier by the presence of friends like Chaitanya and Zap.

4th. :murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
Star (3), Maki (6)

The Murkrows will be counting on Star and Maki to hold down the SS slots in their quest to win MWP 3. Star is a tour player who has become a mainstay in Monotype tours with the Honchkrows. In terms of skill, he is undoubtedly one of the best players in this tour, and his skills have translated to Monotype well, putting up a strong showing in MPL 6 that is reflected in his 6-3 record. However, a significant amount of success came in ORAS, and the Krows will be hoping he can better his 2-3 showing in SS in MWP. Key to supporting him with builds will be Maki, a new player who went 3-0 for the Miniors in SS after being picked up midseason, a pivotal presence in their late playoff push. The Krows will be looking to him to build for Star while being able to maintain consistency and replicate the promising form he showed in MPL 6 to further establish himself as a solid Monotype player.

4th. :tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
Wanka (4), Bushtush (5)

The Tsareenas have built an interesting SS core featuring Wanka and Bushtush to spearhead their lineup. Wanka is one of the most notable Monotype players after his time as a Tier Leader along with captaining the Tapus and Treeckos to finals appearances in consecutive MPLs. On form, Wanka is a great watch as he can stack up wins in quick stretches to put the team on his back. He will be looking to iron out some of the inconsistency that led to him finishing 5-6 in MPL 6, which could determine success or failure for the Tsareenas. Bushtush is a player returning to tournaments after a Smogon ban, which may have resulted in his surprisingly low price. However, he has been historically successful in Monotype tours with an overall record of 20-12, and will be expected to do well for the Tsareenas. One sticking point for the Tsareenas will be adequately supporting the two, since their only competent SS builder seems to be Jolly Togekiss, bar Isza work-horsing for the SS slots.

6th. :pangoro: Po Town Pandas :pangoro:
Splash (4), EviGaro (6)

Splash being tied at 4th is very interesting after quite frankly, a shitty mpl debut, and basically nothing to speak of other than one solid ssnls run. However, if his building is half as good as he talks it up to be, the Pandas have already won this tour. If not, with Attribute also being unproven in the Bo3 slot, this could get very shaky for the Pandas. EviGaro is a very solid player, and she will put up a solid record as long as she is passed solid/viable teams and doesn’t excessively mald for no reason. In a new meta however, with a reluctance to test, she could find some difficulty early on figuring out the meta.

7th. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
kythr (5), gorex (8)

The Vivillons are relying on newer players in kythr and gorex to keep their SS slots afloat, which could be a daunting task given the strength of the pool. kythr put in a solid performance in his debut of MPL 6 for the Bucks, concluding the tour with a decent 4-3 record for a team that was anticipated to struggle in SS. Here, the Vivillons will be hoping that he can be the key to surpassing expectations again on the back of his MLT win. Meanwhile, gorex was a regular starter for the Milotics and finished with a record of 3-4, which was respectable relative to expectations. He will be seeking to do adequately again in order to assist the Vivillons in making playoffs. Key to the pair's potential success will be the support of Decem, arguably the most innovative builder in SS Monotype currently.

8th. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles :wartortle:
Dieu Amphibien (7), adjustments (8)

Like the Vivillons, the Wartortles will be counting on two players that debuted in MPL 6 for their SS slots, in the form of Dieu Amphibien and adjustments. Dieu Amphibien got a lot of playing time in MPL 6 due to the unforeseen cancering by Feitan, and he managed to surpass expectations with an even record of 3-3. Here in MWP 3, he will be seeking to do well again, this time as a starter from the beginning of the tour. adjustments was a substitute for the Treeckos who finished with a respectable record of 2-2, and will be looking to make a mark in MWP 3 as well. While he has improved in terms of building and being able to support himself, the Wartortles will be hoping he can be consistent and eliminate some of the errors that threaten to derail his games at times. It can be argued that the Wartortles should've invested more in SS given the competitiveness of this pool, but they will be hoping these two can get enough wins to keep them in playoff contention.

Bo3

1st.
:miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
Chaitanya (1)

The Miltanks have arguably the best Monotype player currently to hold down their Bo3 slot in Chaitanya, making it inevitable that they would rank first in this category. Apart from being a Tier Leader, Chaitanya is well-known for leading teams that are consistently successful in Monotype team tours, always making playoffs in the four tours he has managed and winning rings in Mono WCOP and MPL 5. In MPL 6, Chait finished with a 7-1 record in Bo3, looking nigh unbeatable at times. The Miltanks will be hoping he can continue in this rich vein of form to drive them to a playoffs appearance and potentially a ring.

2nd. :murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
Leru (2)

The Murkrows come in second with Leru, one of the best Monotype players around who has had managerial experience and will be looking to lead his team to success in MWP 3. Leru finished with a solid 5-3 record in the past MPL, showing great consistency that helped his team reach the brink of playoffs, only to fall short. A notable feature of Leru's play that is sure to induce heart-stopping moments is his approach to living on the edge with regards to the timer, which might be detrimental to his co-manager's health. If Leru has learned the mechanics of Gen 8 since his game against Feitan, he will be a formidable foe for any opponents.

3rd. :pangoro: Po Town Pandas:pangoro:
Attribute (3)

Ohhhh Attribute Attribute Attribute. He has finished rather highly in the PRs again after another below average performance in MPL 6. Thrown into Bo3 of a tier that he himself has admitted he is not the most comfortable with, it will be interesting to see how well he can do. It has been long enough for him where a true, huge breakout tour can no longer be fairly expected, and his teammates will be hoping for a solid performance. He has the faith of most of the community, looked up to by quite a few poor souls, and overall is not thought of as a bad player in the slightest. His team tour record has been poor and it's going to take multiple improved performances for him to be really seen as an above average player. For now he finds himself at 3 in a relatively unproven field and will be desperately hoping to shut people up for the time being.

4th. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars :incineroar:
zugubu royale (4)

The Incineroars are looking to a skilled maverick in zugubu royale to pick up wins in the Bo3 slot. Concluding MPL 6 with a respectable 4-3 record, zugubu royale showcases creativity in building, especially renowned for his usage of berries. Another characteristic is the aggressive plays he makes, sure to throw off any opponent and gain him an advantage in his games. The main concerns that the Incineroars will be hoping to assuage is his temperament as well as chemistry with his teammates, but his permalock may be a blessing in disguise with regards to the former. If torkool and Ridley can bring out the best of zugubu royale, he could easily be a catalyst to a strong campaign for the Incineroars.

5th. :tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
Isza (5)

The Tsareenas have sought to replicate the success of the Honchkrows from MPL 6 by snagging a couple of their core members, and the recently unbanned Isza will be a key component to their success. While Isza wasn't able to play in MPL, he was a significant factor in the Krows winning a ring with his building support, most notably helping Gondra to finish with a 7-1 record. While his range of building will be limited due to the lack of old gens in MWP, his big-game experience will serve him well in what is sure to be a competitive pool. Since this is his first experience with SS in a team tour, the Tsareenas will be hoping he can adapt well to the tier and shake off any lingering rust from his time away.

6th. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
Decem (6)

Reprising his role of Bo3 from MPL 6, Decem will be looking to be a pivotal figure in the Vivillons' attempts to exceed expectations and contend for playoffs. One of the Monotype Tier Leaders, Decem will need to do well for his team to succeed after there were some raised eyebrows at the price the Vivillons paid for him. It is important to note that he could easily come good on it with his work-horsing to sufficiently support his teammates with creative builds, albeit the managers would do well to restrain some of his more audacious sets. If Decem can refine his performances from MPL 6 that led to a 3-3 record, the combination of his building and playing would serve as valuable for the Vivillons to succeed in MWP 3.

7th. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles :wartortle:
LuckyPiper (7)

In the 7th rank, LuckyPiper will be hoping to lead by example and make another finals appearance in a Monotype team tour. Since LuckyPiper's debut in MPL 5, his standing in the community has grown, one factor being his success as manager of the Treeckos in MPL 6. The Wartortles will be relying on Piper to better his form from last MPL, where he struggled in the Bo3 slot and finished with a record of 4-6. However, Piper can beat anyone on his day, evidenced by his win against Chaitanya in the semi-finals tiebreak, and prospective opponents will need to be wary of the tech he can bring out regardless of the stakes, like Healing Wish Clefairy.

8th. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
Its Choco Bitch (8)

Lastly, the Centiskorchers are represented in the Bo3 slot by It's Choco Bitch. While this may have been a consequence of Trichotomy wanting to play Vodoom, Choco is no slouch at SS and will give a decent game to any opponent he faces. Some of his accomplishments in SS include needing only 2 tours to qualify for the circuit comfortably, as well as his impressive 4-2 record for the Bucks in MPL 6. However, the Bo3 pool is much tougher than what Choco had to contend with while playing SS in MPL, and it is a possibility that he might get outplayed by a better player similar to his game against Star. The Centiskorchers will be hoping he can pull off upsets against the odds in their ambitions to make playoffs.

Monothreat

1st.
:pangoro: Po Town Pandas :pangoro:
Kev (1)

Sporting the #1 seed in the Monothreat lineup is Kev, a Monothreat co-leader, with multiple Monothreat tours of experience and earned the most wins in the format in the most recent official team tour Monothreat was in, in Mono World Cup. His favorite archetype is set up oriented but he is not afraid to try out different strategies or abuse currently broken strategies. Kev understands the intricacies of building and the knowledge to adapt to various sets a Pokemon can use in battle. His main handicap this tour will be his lack of time to thoroughly build and test his teams before his games so we will see how it plays out for him.

2nd. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars :incineroar:
Bouff (2)

Bouff is a staple competitor making waves in the Monotype Circuit this year and finding themselves in playoffs for both Mono's circuit. While their battling resume is higher than most, their Monothreat experience falters in comparison leaving some to wonder how accurate their seeding is. Bouff likes to use bulky offensive strategies with tactful set up and Choiced-locked users to gain an edge in battle. With the help of a former Monothreat co-leader we will see how his placement holds in the upcoming weeks.

3rd. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
ToxaNex (3)

Coming in next is the only other Monothreat council member in attendance this year in ToxaNex. ToxaNex co-authored the Monothreat VR, participates in every Monothreat tour that's offered -- both official or unofficial tours, discusses new ideas, and is not afraid to create multiple variations of a team until he is satisfied. ToxaNex likes to use standard stuff but twist them into something unexpected to gain an upper hand in teambuilding.

4th. :murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
TonyFlygon (4)

The dark horse in the format this year is TonyFlygon who has only one recorded Monothreat match amongst all past tours. Tony is no stranger to the tournament scene as a former lead Tournament Director and winning SPL. Similar to Bouff, his battling resume is nothing to cough at so his main handicap is experience in the format. With Leru's willingness to help build and test, it is hard to see Tony flopping regardless of his limited history.

5th. :tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
K3ppr (5)

A newcomer to the Monotype tour scene is K3ppr who is constant Monothreat battler in nonofficial tours, room tours, and practicing with others such as ToxaNex. With their lack of official tour experience, one's to wonder if tour stress will get the best of him. K3ppr likes to build with gimmicks, such as Trick Room, to mess with and take advantage of their opponents and is a big advocate for using super effective moves whenever he can. It will be interesting to see how they perform among all the veterans in the format.

6th. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles:wartortle:
taide (6)

taide and D2TheW are both new to the Monothreat format, not really making a name for themselves in SM Monothreat, but did spectacularly in the Intro to Monotype OMs tour where they both went undefeated. There is not much intel on either player because of their limited history and reliance on one team archetype during the tour's pool phase. Both are capable of attaining great records but their lack of history and name recognition leaves them lower on the PR.

7th. :miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
D2TheW (7)

taide and D2TheW are both new to the Monothreat format, not really making a name for themselves in SM Monothreat, but did spectacularly in the Intro to Monotype OMs tour where they both went undefeated. There is not much intel on either player because of their limited history and reliance on one team archetype during the tour's pool phase. Both are capable of attaining great records but their lack of history and name recognition leaves them lower on the PR.

8th. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
basaninho (8)

Last but not least we have basaninho who I, Ticken, have never seen them battle any Monothreat matches nor have I heard of them before. They are starting on a clean slate so it will be hard to predict what they will bring to the table. That can do them favors because it will be difficult to prep against them but their lack of experience will also hinder them, theoretically speaking.

AAA

1st.
:tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
1 True Lycan (1)

The most successful Mono AAA player throughout the history of Monotype, boasting an incredible record of 21 - 4, The Baron is looking to dominate the pool yet again. Unless he gets extremely unlucky, a strong performance is expected for sure. His arch nemesis Ssalbap went undrafted, meaning he has an even easier path to an X-0 tour than before. He is easily the most dominant player in the Monotype tournament scene, and with friends around him and the support of JT and K3ppr, he should have more than enough to sweep through the field once again.

2nd. :miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
Zap (2)

The current Mono Tier Leader who went a respectable 4-0 in the OM tour, Zap was not particularly known for Mono OMs back in SM. However, this generation, Zap is on the Mono AAA council, and is shaping up for a successful tour. He usually has solid tour performances but his main weakness is that he tends to become predictable, but given his high skill he is definitely poised for a great performance.

3rd. :pangoro: Po Town Pandas :pangoro:
Catalystic (3)

A long time OM vet, Catalystic also has a lot of monotype experience, along with mono OM experience, explaining why a very average player (21-21) went for 18k. He is guaranteed to have the most lines in your team chat, although this might not be a particularly good thing. He has the potential to do well, although he has never realized it in the monotype scene. In a potentially very stacked tier, depending on how the newcomers go about it in the monotype scene, Cata could be hard pressed to finish even, but his experience puts him in the current 3 spot.

4th. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars :incineroar:
aesf (4)

A long time OM veteran, aesf has recently come out of retirement to play in MWP as well as OMWC. Prior to retiring, aesf won the OM Classic but went for a relatively underwhelming 3-5 in OMPL VIII, at least for his high standards. However, he has never touched monotype in his life, so he may get bedazzled when his opponents roll up with 6 birds. While OM players have had generally mixed results when trying Mono OMs, aesf definitely has the creativity and potential to pull it off.

5th. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles :wartortle:
Fylkir Pudin (5)

A new mono room auth who is known for playing SS, Fylkir Pudin won Mono Gens this year. Yet, he is not known for playing Mono OMs, AAA included, but he did play STABmons in the OM tour where he did not perform very well, likely because of a lack of motivation. A pretty laid back guy in general who opts to use creative ideas, he might bring some creative ideas to the table this tour.

6th. :murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
smub (6)

A long time mono room auth who has been playing on and off, smub is known for being someone who helps many people with their teams. He has played Mono AAA a fair bit, but he is still coming back into team tournaments. While he didn’t play AAA in the Mono OM tour, he has played the tier quite a lot in Gen 7. Perhaps smub can perform again in this iteration of MWP?

7th. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
The Number Man (7)

A rising star in OMs, TNM has recently been added to the AAA council, showing familiarity with the Crown Tundra meta. However, similar to aesf, TNM has likely had very little exposure to how Monotype works, and as such, he will also have to adapt.

8th. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
Fissure (8)

A long time OM Veteran, this will be the first time that Fissure has stepped foot in MWP. With his main meta being STAB and not AAA, as well as the fact that this is Monotype, it will likely Fissure quite a bit of time before he is familiar with the meta. In addition, he has just come out of retirement, which unfortunately stops him from being higher on the list.

STABmons

1st.
:pangoro: Po Town Pandas :pangoro:
Sae (1)

Coming in with the number 1 spot on the STABmons PR is Sae. As a long time Monotype player with a vast amount of experience in Monotype OMs, Sae is an obvious pick to be one of the better performing players in the STAB pool of MWP3. Although Sae does have a lot of experience in Monotype tours and Monotype OMs, his recent experience in Monotype STAB is was only slightly above average compared to some of the other players in the pool (7-5 in STAB in MWP1, MWP2, and Monotype WCoP), and he also did not perform to his usual standard with a 3-5 performance in the Monotype OM Cup tournament playing Monotype AAA. Aside from this, Sae has very solid support on his team with Catalystic and Attribute, and should be expected to perform solidly this tournament.

2nd. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
Quantum Tesseract (2)

Next at the number 2 spot we have Quantum Tesseract. QT is probably the most decorated player in the Monotype STAB pool of this tour, sporting an impressive 15-8 record in the STABmons tier throughout the tours of MWP1, MWP2, and Monotype WCoP. QT has certainly proved his skill playing and building Monotype STAB over the last few years, but some question whether or not he still processes these skills after taking a considerable hiatus from playing.

3rd. :murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
Betathunder (3)

The 3rd spot on our STABmons PR is none other than ex-STABmons TL, Betathunder. Betathunder is coming into this tour as one of the most experienced players in the STABmons tier with his experience as the ex-STABmons tier leader as well as participating in all of MWP1, MWP2, and Monotype WCoP. While having all of this experience though, Betathunder has not put up the best results, only posting a record of 7-9 across MWP1, MWP2, and Monotype WCoP. Will Betathunder use his past experience in the tier to turn his record around or continue with his subpar performances? Only time will tell...

4th. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars :incineroar:
Plas (4)

At the number 4 spot of the STABmons PR, we have Plas. While being new to Monotype, Plas enters the tour fresh off of a 5-0 performance playing STABmons in OMPL, showing that he is extremely capable playing in the STABmons meta. With team support from Monotype STABmons council member Ridley and Monotype OM tryhard derpeddeath Plas has a very high ceiling this tour, but his lack of experience in Monotype STAB leaves some questions to be answered about how well he will perform in the tour.

5th. :tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
power (5)

Coming in at the 5th place spot of the STABmons PR we have power, formerly known as sedertz or sed. power is coming into the tournament with a solid amount of experience, playing the Monotype STABmons tier in both MWP2 and Monotype WCoP, posting a 6-7 record. With building support from decently experienced K3ppr, power has a good shot of putting up a decent record.

6th. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles :wartortle:
vivalospride (6)

Also fairly new to Monotype, vivalospride enters the tour after participating in his first Monotype Premier League with the second placed Trick House Treeckos. His 0-0 record from that tour provides absolutely nothing in regard to how well he will perform in this tour, but his standing as a current STABmons council member implies that he knows at least something about the tier and should be able to translate that to Monotype STAB. With team support from Perish, vivalospride has potential to do well in the tour.

7th. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
trash (7)

At the 7th place spot on our STABmons PR, we have trash. While being 12th place on the esteemed Monotype Team Tours Sheet® with an extremely impressive all time record of 21-11 across Monotype team tours, I do not believe that trash has played a single game of Monotype STABmons in his existence on the site. The Viridian Vivillons are lacking a dedicated STABmons player and dedicated team support for the tier, and it appears trash will be going into the tier mostly blind. Will Mat and Bondie be able to scrape together some STABmons teams for trash or will he crash and burn this tour? Only time will tell...

8th. :miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
Hys (8)

Last on our STABmons PR, we have Hys. While not having participated in any major Monotype team tour until now, Hys is entering this tour sporting an impressive 5-0 record (with 2 activity wins) in the Monotype OM Cup. While obviously having some experience playing and I assume building the meta, it appears that Hys does not have much team support for Monotype STAB on the Miltanks, and will likely be on his own or outsourcing to players of other teams to assist him in preparing for this tier. The lack of "big game experience" and lack of team support leaves Hys at the bottom of this competitive pool, but this chip on his shoulder could motivate him and force us to rethink our opinions of him.

LC

1st.
:murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
Sabella (1)

Coming in first is the man himself, Sabella. A well-seasoned Monotype player, let alone his history in other tiers, and many rings within the monotype community itself. Come this tour, he's playing in the LC slot. Of the players in this pool, he is definitely the best player, and his superior playing ability will definitely come in handy. The main downside here would be how matchup-dependent monotype LC is, which player skill can only go so far to overcome. While certain tech sets can definitely help overcome (and even dominate) the otherwise unwinnable matchups, it is to be determined if Sabella will be able to utilize these sets given his lack of experience in this meta. Hopefully a teammate such as smub can support him in this department, so long as he's willing to take the advice.

2nd. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
Nailec (2)

Next is Nailec, probably the most balanced player in the Monotype LC lineup. With a healthy amount of experience in the tier, let alone leading Monotype LC in generation 8, he should do very well in this tournament. In contrast to Sabella, Nailec is aware of the tech sets used in monotype LC to overcome difficult matchups, which should help him immensely in winning many matchups, especially against less experienced players. From a perspective of overall playing ability, he does fare a little worse than Sabella, but it would not be surprising if Nailec ends up coming on top in this meta. Hopefully his large buy price of 24k will be justified in sealing the win each week for this tier.

3rd. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
Toadow (3)

Third in our rankings is Toadow, an experienced regular little cup player. Similar to Sabella, he should do very well playing-wise, though it is to be seen how much that will translate into the monotype LC meta. That being said, Toadow should have decent support in his team building for those who dabble in the tier for fun here and there, such as Decem, maroon, and Firnen. However, support will be spread very thin given the lineup the Vivillions are sporting this year. Toadow should generally do well in this tournament; though could equally do poorly given the metagame itself.

4th. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles :wartortle:
Crashy (4)

Fourth comes Crashy, who went for a very large asking price of 21k. Crashy is no stranger to monotype tournaments, though he always does about average in each tournament he plays and did well in his most recent tournament. That being said, he has a very good record in recent tournaments with Monotype LC (specifically those in the LC community). Given his recent experience and success in those other tournaments, he is expected to do very well here, explaining his high buying price. However, that is to be seen in an environment where more players (theoretically) understand the monotype version of this metagame better.

5th. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars :incineroar:
Confide (5)

Confide comes in fifth on our power rankings for monotype LC. Confide has much historical experience playing regular little cup, being the metagame that he came up on. While he does not have experience with monotype little cup himself, he has the support of torkool, who led monotype little cup in generation 7, as well as GotCookies, who is very experienced with playing monotype little cup this generation. He should also fare very well in this tournament given the support he has, but it is to be determined given his lack of experience with monotype little cup specifically.

6th. :tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
tko (6)

Sixth is tko, another player who knows their way around regular little cup. Although they have participated in several monotype tournaments, they have not played very many games between them, nor winning very many matches. That being said, perhaps this is their time to shine in our community and do well in the tournament. But like several other players on this list, the lack of monotype little cup experience specifically will be a big downside to how well they may do in this tour.

7th. :pangoro: Po Town Pandas :pangoro:
Sensei Axew (7)

Next up in Sensei Axew, a newcomer to the monotype smogon team tournament community, having not previously played in any tournament for this subforum. They did win the most recent monotype seasonals, so obviously not a big stranger to monotype itself. Their experience in regular little cup, let alone monotype little cup is a big question mark, so expectations are not very high for this player.

8th. :miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
Izaya (8)

Finally we have Izaya, with an esteemed nickname of Izay2-0. A player who has been around in the monotype community for a very long time, but never making too much of a name for himself. The question here would be how much effort he is willing to put in to learn the metagame and get some wins. That being said, he does have support from the captain, Seo, who does (theoretically) know the metagame itself. Whether or not he'll listen to him may be the determining factor if he does well in this tournament.

NatDex

1st. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles :wartortle:
Feitan the steam (1)

To no one’s surprise, the Wartortle’s star player Feitan leads the NatDex rankings. Despite his hiatus since mid-MPL VI, Feitan is expected to dominate the competition, following his strong performances going 6-3 in MPL V and a respectable 2-0 in MPL VI, prior to abandoning his team. However, his motivation to play for the Wartortles is a huge question mark after almost deserting the team within minutes after the draft. Nonetheless, provided MPL VI does not repeat itself, he is expected to put up a stellar record.

2nd. :pangoro: Po Town Pandas :pangoro:
Floss (2)

Floss is a relatively new player to the Monotype scene and has certainly garnered a reputation for himself. Recently, Floss has been added to the Monotype council and VR council and tied for the most amount of wins last MPL, with 7 among numerous others, and went undefeated, 5-0, in NatDex in what people regarded as the toughest pool of the tour. Not only that but he won an entire seasonal this year as well. While most of his accomplishments are SS based, those skills will surely translate to NatDex as well, evidenced by his OM tour record.

3rd. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
maroon (3)

Monotype NatDex Tier Leader and resident tryhard maroon finds himself ranked third, in hopes of dominating the competition. However, after a failed attempt at cancering out of the Vivillons soon after the draft, unlike Feitan, maroon will be motivated to prove a point after multiple average at best showings in team tournaments and as such, maroon is anticipated to have a respectable performance with the help of fellow Monotype NatDex TL Mat’s support.

4th. :murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
Gondra (4)

After an amazing Monotype team tour debut in MPL VI, going 7-1, Gondra will be looking to replicate this success yet again, in MWP III, but this time, without Isza’s support, for which most of Gondra’s success in MPL VI was attributed to. However, with one of the most historically successful managers and builders in Leru by his side, there is little doubt that Gondra’s support will be top notch yet again.

5th. :miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
Harpp (5)

At fifth we have fellow Miltank player, Harpp. Being one of the members in the NatDex Monotype council, regular Monotype council, and SM Monotype being the tier he plays most, he is expected to know the ins and outs of this format and aims to do well this tournament, especially now that he is no longer in the same team chat as maroon. With maroon no longer by his side, he is likely to perform well and perhaps say more than 200 lines in his team discord.

6th. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars :incineroar:
Jordy (6)

NatDex OU Tier Leader Jordy finds himself ranked 6th in his debut Monotype tour. While his National Dex experience is second to none, going 5-2 in the most recent National Dex Premier League, his experience in the Monotype tier itself is significantly lacking, resulting in his low rank. Nevertheless, with the right support from fellow teammates such as MetaRiolu7, Conflux and Ridley, he will look to exceed expectations set on him.

7th. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
Lilburr (7)

Next up on the rankings is UU prospect, Lilburr. Lilburr, rose to quick fame in UU within the last year, going 5-2 in the most recent UUPL, followed up with a respectable performance in SSD, giving more reason to believe she has the skill to excel in this tour. As a NatDex UU council member, Lilburr’s experience in NatDex is plentiful. However, much like Jordy, her non-existent Monotype experience drags her down, resulting in the lower rank. But with one of the best builders in Trichotomy as support, she can be expected to put up a decent showing.

8th. :tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
Maskun (8)

Coming back from the days when ORAS was the current gen, Maskun is making an appearance in his first official team tour! Maskun earned himself a respectable 4-1 NatDex record in the OM tour and already beat Gondra week 1 so there is little doubt he knows the tier well. His long, approximately 5-year, hiatus and low name recognition as a competitive battler to newer age competitors is likely why he coming in on the bottom of the ranking. If he can keep up his recent momentum, it would not be obscene if he places multiple ranks higher in the end.

:oricorio-pom-pom: Overall Rankings :oricorio-pom-pom:

1st. :pangoro: Po Town Pandas :pangoro:
SS (4, 6), Bo3 (3), Monothreat (1), AAA (3), STABmons (1), LC (7), NatDex (2)

Somehow, the team lead by first time managers Floss and DugZa are ranked first. Blasphemy. Anyway, it is done so I have no choice but to write about it. While they are an inexperienced manager group, they have a lot of experience on their team. Kev, Sae, Attribute have been around for years with varying degrees of success, and Catalystic and EviGaro are also extremely experienced in pokemon matters, while being reliable teammates and players. Their latter end of a short bench is a little suspect, as there is no experience there at all. Overall they are lead by one of the better SS players and builders in Floss who for some reason has decided to lose in Natdex. Overall a well rounded team which lacks true ‘star power,’ I personally do not believe their ranking, but they have the pieces to make it to the finals if the pieces click.

2nd. :incineroar: Inebriated Incineroars :incineroar:
SS (2, 2), Bo3 (4), Monothreat (2), AAA (4), STABmons (4), LC (5), NatDex (6)

Torkool and Ridley are by far the most successful managers in MWP history, managing the winners of MWP I and MWP II respectively. However their draft has serious questions, and I don’t understand this second place ranking. Apparently losing vs fire with water boosts your price for the next tour, I’m sure one of my teammates will try to emulate that at some point. Zugubu royale once asked to be benched after losing to Ronman 5 in a tour. I can’t be sure which of these is worse, asking to be benched or losing to Ronman. There is no real star player on this team as well. Zugu has had tremendous individual success so far this year in circuit, but has never been totally up to it for an entire tour. There is quite a bit of OM depth on this team however, and overall is filled with relatively solid players, even if not very experienced in the tier. A majority of the responsibility will fall on the managers and MetaRiolu to help the surrounding OM players. A lot of pieces, and a lot of question marks. Apparently there is already inner turmoil on that team which can only be expected with Zugu, and of course they need to be careful of their teams being leaked. I’ve heard their chat is quiet, and if it stays that way, I think this tour could be a disaster for them. Working together, they have the potential to make it far in the tour.

2nd. :murkrow: Mossdeep Murkrows :murkrow:
SS (3, 6), Bo3 (2), Monothreat (4), AAA (6), STABmons (3), LC (1), NatDex (4)

At second we have the Murkrows, led by Sabella and Leru. Leru ofc is someone who is a serial cheater. Coincidentally, the same duo teamed up in MPL III in which they are rumored to have cheated in, which Zarif will never shut up about. Next up, they drafted Starmaster, one of the best players in the tour, who also has been known for his cheating scandals in the past. Finally, to round out their cheating core, they picked up Gondra, manager of the cheatworms. If the Krows win this tour, you can figure out how that happened. While smub and Betathunder man the OM slots, there is little doubt that the former will disappear 2 weeks into the tour while the latter is more often drunk than not. Also, they drafted Maki to compliment Leru and complete the furry core, meaning Maki and Leru will be too busy discussing their furry fantasies to actually to be of any use on the team. While they do have the necessary tools to succeed and claim the championship, it also won't be too surprising to see half of the team tournament banned half way into the tour. Luckily Monotype doesn't cheat so we can expect a good tour from them :blobcouple:

4th. :centiskorch: Circhester Centiskorchers :centiskorch:
SS (1, 3), Bo3 (8), Monothreat (8), AAA (8), STABmons (2), LC (2), NatDex (7)

Shockingly, we have the Centiskorchers at fourth despite being ranked 8th in three categories and 7th in another. The team is led by Havens, and the OM version of himself which is not a compliment by any means. While they do compliment each other well as a monotype main and OM main pair, the motivation of their players is a huge question mark as most players hate the thought of playing for Havens & ITH. However, if they do manage to keep the players motivated they might just make playoffs but this rank isn’t a testament of how good they are, but more of how terrible the ones below are.

4th. :miltank: Milk Bagged Miltanks :miltank:
SS (1, 7), Bo3 (1), Monothreat (7), AAA (2), STABmons (8), LC (8), NatDex (5)

Another 4th place team, we have the MWP edition of the Gengars with a less intimidating lineup and lower collective IQ. The obvious stars of this lineup are the trio of Chaitanya, Zap and dahli which should most certainly do well in their slots. They also have Harpp, who was once one of the most hyped up players in Monotype, but now finds himself below his past co-manager maroon in National Dex. They also have Vodoom who is a risk in every sense of the word. Many will probably be surprised by this team being tied at 4th with these other 2 because of the clear star power, but the second half of the team falls short. The rest of this lineup is rounded up with players who are unproven in their slots and while their bench is large there isn't too many convincing rotations that can be made. With the guidance of an expert core of Chaitanya and Zap, this team can definitely patch up the holes in their lineup and have a strong season.

4th. :tsareena: Tsundere Tsareenas :tsareena:
SS (4, 5), Bo3 (5), Monothreat (5), AAA (1), STABmons (5), LC (6), NatDex (8)

The final team tied for the 4th slot is the Tsareenas where old, potentially washed players and new, probably bad players meet. This team was very liberal with spending their money at the start of the draft dropping big money on older players. While 1 True Lycan is undoubtedly the definition of consistency, he has not touched SS AAA and will most likely not help in other slots so his immense price tag might backfire. They also have two recently unbanned players in Isza and Bushtush who definitely were top players before, but its possible they do not adapt smoothly to SS Monotype. One could argue Isza remained active, but he lost like 50$ to a mediocre ladder hero in a money match. Their newer players like Jolly Togekiss, K3ppr and Maskun are all still unproven which could be a hit or a miss. They also lack building support in a lot of the metagames as neither of the managers are relevant players, and a lot of the players aren't builders for the tiers. This team definitely can do well, but they will need to grind on building and their old players will need to prove they are still at the level they formerly were.

7th. :vivillon: Viridian Vivillons :vivillon:
SS (5, 8), Bo3 (6), Monothreat (3), AAA (7), STABmons (7), LC (3), NatDex (3)

Next, we have the MWP equivalent of passing GO in Monopoly. The Vivillons' success relies heavily on Tier Leader Decem's support after paying a ridiculous 35k for him as he is the only higher end player they believed would give them a modicum of respect. However, he is playing in the very competitive Bo3. This team will be heavily dependent on them getting their money's worth on Decem in terms of prep. They will also need maroon to finally put his money where his mouth is as the Monotype National Dex Tier Leader, despite him actively trying to be traded on draft day. While this team seems to have neglected getting a very strong SS, they also managed to slack off in the OMs. Overall, the draft of this team seems rather bizarre as they lack star power across the board. The manager even benched himself week 1 as he benched someone redundant with his own tier. However, this team does have some players with a potential to pop off so they could be surprising.

8th. :wartortle: Weaboo Wartortles :wartortle:
SS (7, 8), Bo3 (7), Monothreat (6), AAA (5), STABmons (6), LC (4), NatDex (1)

At the bottom of the barrel, we have the Weaboo Wartortles with a roster that would be runner ups in BLT. This team lacks a realistic superstar bar Feitan the Steam who is a huge disappearance risk and has already expressed dislike for the team. Without him, this team looks even less convincing as he is their only slot ranked within the top 3 of a tier. Befitting the crash and burn that was this draft, the most convincing slot on this team is Crashy. While a solid Monotype LC player that is expected to do well, he went for a ridiculous price for the tier which might have contributed to the rest of the mess. Overall, this team is rounded out by players that either have little to no experience or history in the tiers they are in. The saving grace of this team is that of any of the ones in the tournament, they are definitely the ones that would be the most motivated by being at the bottom. They will have plenty of motivation to pull the zero to hero story like in their animes, but there isn't much the power of friendship can do for them here.

MWP PROFILE PICTURE TOP 10 AND BOTTOM 10 LIST

What's up losers I'm back again with another highly requested Profile Picture Power Ranking. I put it off for 2 weeks due to being busy and lazy but I decided now was the perfect time for me to write this, as always I'm gonna start with the bottom 10 and then do the top 10. Good luck to everyone and I hope everyone is happy with their placement :3
(I'm gonna refrain from posting avatars that were in the MPL one but haven't changed since then as it would be boring)

BOTTOM 10

#10
Mateeus

mat.jpg

This dude still has Staravia so he's still in the bottom 10 :/ I don't know if he'll ever change and I wasn't gonna put him since it's just another staravia pic but I thought that might give him a sense of security and make him think it's not dogshit, and ofc I can't be having that. LMFAO ugly ass mon ugly ass pic Idk what u want.

#9
power
Power.png

I'm sorry I've always thought that this picture is fucking dogass. I'm not sure what the appeal is because it's just a very standard picture of an Emoji. It's not bad enough to really be any Higher than this but god it is terrible and I really hope you change it soon...

#8
Riku Sakuraba
Riku.png

I don't know what to even say. Is he sick? It's just an overall ugly picture and I get that it's christmas but that santa hat does not fit him at ALL holy shit. I thought I would be able to get away with not putting any weebs in the bottom 10 but seems I was wrong. Sorry you're a nice guy and all but this is ugly.

#7
Maskun
Maskun.jpg

U can't tell me this isn't the team of kids who watched Kuroko No Basket and told their parents they want to play Basketball, if you told me this team won a single game I would be in shock. I don't know why Maskun is using it as his profile picture but I truly hope you were not a part of this team because LMFAO.

#6
Floss
FLoss.gif

Honestly my only real problem with this is how this goofy goober slides into the hug. He coulda ran/walked/skipped idc but that slide was unneeded and probably just got his knee a little extra dirty. It didn't look cool and I'm just not sure why he did it. I don't know why that makes me hate it so much but it does...

#5
aesf
AESF.png

This this looks like the logo for a gas station or like a car rental place. I'm sure you thought having your name as your profile picture would be cool, and it works for some users, but this shit's just ugly and I really don't know why you decided to go this route. I'm sorry I feel bad since you seem nice but god LMAO.

#4
Hys

hys.jpg

This isn't even TERRIBLE it's just ugly and I don't know why you'd use it. Like the 1 above is probably uglier but it's also his name, this has nothing to do with you it's just an ugly image overall so I don't get it. I really don't have much else to say it's just an ugly image with no justification for using it.. good luck in the rest of the tour tho

#3
Derpeddeath

Derp.jpg

It took me a long time to decide whether this was #2 or #3 but luckily for you #2 is pretty fucking ugly. I can kinda get using a bugcatcher profile pic if that's your boy but you might have found the ugliest 1 the internet could provide you with. This is another 1 of those "it looks like you took this picture with a walkie talkie" type images. I'm sorry.

#2
Fírnen
Firnen.gif

I don't know how you escaped judgement in MPL ngl. I might have just not noticed, or maybe the pictures were just that fucking bad in MPL. I will say the bottom 10 is nowhere near as ugly as it was in MPL so I'd like to think that Monotype glew up a bit. But it could just be the difference in users I really don't know. Anyways this shit sucks lmfao.

#1
The Number Man

The Number Man.jpg

Honestly I don't know that this is a justified #1 but god damn it's pretty bad. I think in MPL this would have been more like #8 but you got unlucky and for some reason everybodies profile pictures are like not the worst shit ever this tour. Some of the really bad ones are just repeats from last tour so maybe that's why. Anyways this shit is definitely disgusting and it's an ugly mon in general. Congrats on having the worst profile pic.

TOP 10

zugubu royale
Zugu.png

This guys pretty cute tho I don't know what the fuck he is. I don't have a ton to say because it's just some little mole guy but I think he is adorable for sure and probably deserving of the top 10. I feel like this guy is from OPM or something but I really just don't remember so it's w/e. Good Choice Zugu =D

#9
Dieu Amphibien
Dieu.gif

The only user to successfully move from the bottom 10 to the top 10 in the course of 1 tournament. I respect the grind and I like to think that my very good PR is the reason you decided to switch to this cute Wooper gif instead. Congrats and I hope more users follow in your footsteps.

#8
MetaRiolu7

Mr7.jpg

This one didn't end up making the cut in MPL, but the competition was a bit less strong here and some of the pics were ruled out by being used already. Shy Guy is SUPER fire and he's the best character from the Mario universe for sure. Something about those size 15 boats he's wearing throws me off but I fuck with the picture overall.

#7
Attribute

Attribute.jpg

AYYYYY lmfao the Hungry fucking Hippo coming in hot. This pics fire as fuck and the game was too. I await the day you follow through with the name change but since it looks like that won't be anytime soon I guess we'll just have to accept the profile picture for now =D

#6
martha

Martha.jpg

I actually didn't notice your pic when I originally made this but I noticed last second and I realized I couldn't leave it out so I had to cut out #10 and move 6-9 down a slot (Sorry maroon you were #10 lmfao). You had a really cute picture last MPL too so I shouldn't be shocked but the artwork you use for these is so cute =D grats.

#5
Azelea
Azelea.png

Normally you would never see yourself this high but luckily for you I blessed you with this amazing profile picture. Obviously I had to put this in the top 10 as it has two adorable anime girls showing off their phones in a cute and creative way lol! Congrats Azelea.

I hate that I have to put this Moron in here but this gif is really cute so I didn't want to leave it out. I somehow don't know who that character is but she kinda looks like an airheaded mom so that's obviously a + All things being said this is just really cute and while you usually have bad weeb takes at least your profile picture is good =D

Queen Ningguang omg.. She's a super baddie and this picture is really adorable too. I really like the color scheme of the image overall and I think it's SUPER well done. I knew since MPL you had pretty good taste in pictures but this ones super good too so congrats on #3 Perish :3

Honestly I'm still not sure if this shoulda been #1 #2 or #3 because the top 3 were all pretty good. I don't really LOVE any profile pictures this tour but there is some really fucking good ones. I really don't have a lot to say it's just another cute anime girl picture and I always like the pictures that are colorless but 1 specific thing is colored, I feel like they look cool.
Congrats on #2 Gondra and honestly like I said this coulda been 1 2 or 3 because I really don't know which is best.

Well we originally had you on our draft plan because Perish said you were cool and you had a really cute Amber profile picture so we knew u probably played Genshin then snake ass Havens stole you so... This Klee picture is super adorable and while Klee is obviously not a good Waifu she is a really good character and this picture is super cute and I like the explosion in the background ;w; anyways Congrats on winning the Profile Picture Power Rankings!
