Monotype Core Laddering Challenge Season 2 Cycle 4
2 Standard Cores, January 14 - January 28

Ground

Krookodile + Gastrodon
Tag: CCS2Gr4
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1600+
Gold: 1450+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1250+
Gastrodon is an essential Pokemon to have in Ground-Type teams, thanks to its access to Water Absorb, letting it act as a check to water type Pokemon. Its natural bulk paired up with Recover lets Gastrodon tank Special Hits without trouble. However, its part Water-Typing stacks its Grass-Type weakness, leaving its team exposed to Grass-Type attacks.
Krookodile has his niche as an anti-lead Pokemon with its access to Taunt and Stealth Rock, as well as trapping move Pursuit and can remove items with Knock Off. Its access to Intimidate lets it check a part of physical attackers. It has also has access to Moxie and has a decent speed to be used as a late game cleaner with a Choice Scarf set.

Bug

Vivillon + Scolipede
Tag: CCS2Bu4
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1550+
Gold: 1450+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1250+

Vivillon is a unique pokemon that has very little to offer on Bug-Type teams. Its access to Sleep Powder and Quiver Dance lets Vivillon to set up in front of many Pokemon that is slower than it, while its good ability Compound Eyes boosts its low accuracy moves Such as Hurricane and Sleep Powder. However, its part Flying-Typing stacks its Rock-Type weakness, making it weaker to common Stealth Rock. It also has limited coverage options that can be checked by Steel-Types easily.
Scolipede is another fearsome Pokemon that Bug-Type teams have access to. Its good stat boosting move Swords Dance paired up with Speed Boost along with Coverage options such as Aqua Tail and Earthquake makes it a very strong pokemon. However, this pokemon struggles from 4MSS, having forced to run Protect and Swords Dance together limits the amount of coverage this Pokemon can run, making it easy to keep under control.

To register to participate in a core challenge, you must reply to this forum with the proper information to be eligible! See the example post below for details. This also applies for submitting peaks (with that said please keep all of your information onto 1 post)! Otherwise, refer to the Index Thread for the official rules and info on this project. Please make sure to post replays of your Hall of Fame Rankings, failure to do so will result in your post being ignored.

In order to win this challenge, one player must obtain the highest ladder peak with the given core. In order to be eligible for winning the challenge you have to either post a replay of your peak (Highest elo reached) or take a screenshot of your accounts highest rank on ladder. The person with the highest rank at the end of the week is the winner of the challenge and will get posted in a new hall of fame in the Index thread along with the team they were using. If you win, please PM the team to Perishing Song or Namranan along with a brief description of the team and how you got the elo you got to. (Replays are much appreciated)

Remember to keep track of your Win/Loss ratio because the person with the best ratio out of 30 games can get a shoutout after the challenge has ended. To submit your Win/Loss ratio just take a screenshot of your record and post it in your registration. The team with the best record will be added to its own Hall of Fame. That being said, if you win the challenge you must PM Namranan or Perishing Song your team with a brief description of how it works. If you do this even without winning you will still have your team posted in an honorable mentions section. You get 1 extra point this cycle if you submit your team.

Have Fun!

:)))))))))))
Thank you for the most signups this project has had since I've taken over! That being said a lot of you seemingly have not finished or posted your ranks. So I will extend this for an additional week so that you guys can get those in before I end the core for real. This does not apply to the super core.

Normal

Heliolisk + Smeargle
Tag : CCS2No4
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1600+
Gold: 1450+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1250+
Heliolisk - Once a relatively common pokemon in ORAS, now nearly irrelevant in USUM, Heliolisk barely finds a niche in the modern normal metagame on HO teams. It is able to act as a fast pivot that can deal with water types and deal with the likes of many defensive Water-Type Pokemon like Mantine, Swampert, and Toxapex. Its ability in Dry Skin, also allows it to completely wall some of the aforementioned Pokemon, and also allows it to force out choice-locked pokemon like Choice Scarf Keldeo locked into Hydro Pump or Scald. While its niche is rather small, Heliolisk is still useful for dealing with troublesome types like Flying and Water for HO Normal teams that struggle to break their walls effectively.
Smeargle - The face of HO normal. Thanks to smeargle's infinite movepool, it is able to use Sticky Web and Stealth Rocks and be able to use moves like Nuzzle, Magic Coat, Spore, and Rapid spin to help keep these hazards up before it dies. While seemingly a linear role, once it gets these hazards down, many usually lesser used Pokemon on normal like Bewear and Meloetta are able to use these webs to outspeed most of their usual checks, and potentially sweep opposing teams with ease. Thanks to its ability to do this, Smeargle's niche is very helpful for normal teams that want to have a more offensive edge than its balance counterpart.

Electric

Thundurus-Therian + Zeraora
Tag: CCS2El4
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1600+
Gold: 1450+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1250+
Thundurus-Therian - A mon that is rarely ever seen on electric teams, but has a niche that allows it to work sometimes. Thundurus-T has some moves that Electric values quite a bit, such as Sludge Wave for Grass types like Breloom and Tapu Bulu, and Grass knot for Pokemon like Swampert. Not only is it have this useful movepool, but it also is another Ground immunity and can act as great speed control with a choice scarf, or as a niche double dance sweeper with a powerful Z-move. Even though these traits are nice, it can be hard to fit on a team due to how little flexbilility Electric has when it comes to teambuilding, which is why it is never used as much as other mons on the type. Despite this, Thundurus-Therian can still be a good addition to a team that can utilize its niche.
Zeraora - This is not Zeraora's first time in the Core Laddering Challenge Rodeo, but it should be stated once again just how great of a physical attacker it is for the type. With the ability to beat out opposing dark types with ease and also pressure an immense amount of the metagame with electric terrain up, it can be a really great Pokemon that can adapt to almost any team composition.
