M&M Mix and Mega Resources

View attachment 318581UR to B+: potentially an insane offensive threat, solg is its only real defensive counter and offensive trick room can let it tear apart offensive teams. great at staving off dnites/zyg and as one allows it to create lose lose situations where neither a sac or a switchin will accomplish anything. this mons main issues are burns and solg which are admittedly pretty glaring but this mons positives easily put this on par with at least the mons currently in b+.

Really well played game! The question I have here is that I don't really see Calyrex really doing a lot of work here. It ate 2 slowbro Scalds that will potentially burn it which doesn't seem too promising to its breaking powers. Maybe substitute would be an option? I like the idea but I hope to see some replays where it sweeps / breaks cleanly

Mix and Mega Viability Rankings Update: 01/06/2021

rises
:regieleki: A -> A+

Regieleki has continued to see success at the hands of many players and solidifies itself as one of the scariest Pokemon in the format, practically warping what is considered to be the definition of a Ground-type. Its ability to be useful at any stage of the game with either Rapid Spin support, the ability to revenge kill a significant portion of the metagame or simply just nuke targets with Explosion makes it an extremely valuable offensive Pokemon capable of controlling the pace of Mix and Mega.

:solgaleo: A -> A+

Solgaleo's excellence as a role compressing tank and as a wallbreaker have been furthered in recent developments. Players have started branching out towards different sets, such as Manectite and Aerodactylite. Manectite has shown itself to be one of the better pivots in the format, capable of checking the various -ate users in the metagame whilst also being able to utilize Future Sight + Teleport, a tactic that hasn't really been too viable in recent MnM history due to the lack of viable setters. Aerodactylite + 4 Attacks sets have also shown success on hyper offense builds as a more destructive version of the Metagrossite set that has very few good answers, as otherwise solid answers like Slowbro and Corviknight are unable to absorb hits that the extra power from Aerodactylite provides.

:rhyperior: A- -> A

Given the recent increase in usage of Electric-types and pivots such as Regieleki and Zeraora, it's imperative to have a good Ground-type that can stop these Pokemon from pivoting around teams. Rhyperior does an excellent job in staving off both of these threats as well as being an excellent tank to other rising stars like Lunala; thus this warranted a small rise.

:slowking-galar: B -> A- (+ Aggronite)

With the recent influx of new balance builds in the metagame, Slowking-Galar has started to take shape as one of the metagame's best defensive setup users, being capable of checking Eternatus as well as a plethora of Altarianite users and providing a considerably frustrating experience in attempting to check it with its 30% status moves in Sludge Bomb and Scald. The council felt particularly strongly about this Pokemon, so this rose 2 subranks.

:kartana: B -> A-

Whilst there was some debate during the earlier months of DLC 2, Kartana has cleared out a strong role in the current metagame as an excellent wallbreaker that is capable of abusing the many different Fairy & Ground types in Mix and Mega at the moment. Solid answers to Kartana aren't easily found, with its solid coverage and ability to utilize Knock Off in order to cripple the Ubers that check it. The lack of strong answers prompted a 2 subrank rise within the council's discussion.

:tyranitar: B- -> B (+ Heracronite)

Tyranitar has been underestimated on the viability rankings due to a general lack of builds that use it well as glue, but with the discovery of Heracronite Tyranitar, Tyranitar's ability to set Stealth Rock is something very few setters can hope to rival, as it is capable of breaking past practically every currently used Magic Bounce user. It also acts as a solid Lunala counter, only really being bothered by rare Focus Blast variants. Pinsirite has also started seeing occasional usage as an offensive Lunala, Eternatus and Entei check wihlst being a solid wincon, being able to abuse the metagame's inability to hit it hard with common defensive pivots.

:weavile: UR -> B

A rise this drastic might raise some alarms, but the evidence is more alarming than that. Weavile's capability to punish builds lacking certain resists and ability to force out Ghosts & Psychics in most situations make it an excellent wallbreaker when properly supported. When paired with Beat Up, Weavile ends up gaining a monstrously powerful STAB move with certain teamcomps that often tends to allow Weavile to go straight past otherwise solid Ice resists like Venusaurite Corviknight. The overall threat level of Weavile as well as the lack of usage of its good answers, such as Magearna and Entei, allow Weavile to carve a role for itself as a terrifyingly powerful Dark-type wallbreaker.

:zygarde-complete: UR -> C

It took a while for a niche to be discovered for Zygarde-Complete, however, in a metagame filled with strong physical attackers, only one Pokemon can really check them all reliably. Enter Zygarde-Complete - a Pokemon capable of handing Zeraora, Pinsirite Entei, Solgaleo and Rhyperior all in one slot. Zygarde's ability to utilize Coil & phaze out otherwise solid counters also makes it difficult to approach. This has solidified Zygarde-Complete as a niche, but effective setup user that is capable of checking a wide range of physical threats, especially with Heal Bell support.

drops

:eternatus: A+ -> A

Defensive Eternatus has been struggling for a while - checks have only started getting more common as Rhyperior, Slowking-Galar and Tyranitar start to become more and more relevant. Defensive Eternatus also tends to be a pretty poor check to Altarianite users - it struggles to find much of a safe entry point at the moment.

:entei: A+ -> A

Likewise with Entei, the likes of Rhyperior, Slowbro and Tyranitar continuing to uphold their viability give its Pinsirite sets a lot of trouble as a wallbreaker. Its Altarianite set also struggles with Slowking-Galar's rise and the competition it has with Regieleki.

:toxapex: A -> A-

Toxapex has been suffering from competition with Slowking-Galar as well as Slowbro, and its viability as a Toxic Spikes setter has been made considerably harder with the new Poison-types in Galar. The rise of a few Dark types has also challenged Gyaradosite Toxapex's viability as a catch-all Lunala counter, making it rather difficult to justify on non-balance builds.

:zapdos: A- -> B+

Zapdos' inability to Defog effectively as well as its terrible matchup against the two best Stealth Rock users in the metagame, Rhyperior & Ampharosite Blissey make it difficult to justify as a pivot. Its poor matchup against Altarianite users also hampers it as a physical wall, and when combined with its weakness to common Stealth Rock setters, it makes it tough to justify as a teamslot.

:excadrill: B+ -> B

:hippowdon: B+ -> B

:mew: B+ -> B

:terrakion: B+ -> B

These four pretty much haven't gotten any usage recently. Excadrill is a pretty mediocre ground-type, only being able to fringe beat Regieleki and struggling with Corviknight and Slowbro, Hippowdon's passivity issues and lack of reliability as an answer to various new Pokemon in the metagame have Mew has issues trying to compete with Slowbro and Lunala defensively, and Terrakion is just a rather suboptimal breaker that takes way more effort to succeed with than any other breaker on this viability ranking.

:arcanine: B -> B-
Arcanine's niche hasn't really been wanted by players - its dwindling effectiveness compared to its brother, Entei, warranted a small drop.

:noivern: B -> UR
Noivern does not have a competitive niche that was worth ranking. Consider looking at a better Flying-type pivot that can actually keep rocks off the field and check something like Corviknight.

low tier cleanout:

:genesect: / :kyurem: / :mewtwo: / :lucario: / :urshifu-rapid-strike:
B- -> C - None of these have seen any real usage thus far, but have decent matchups against some builds, which is enough to keep them on the VR for now

:buzzwole: / :clefable: / :golisopod: / :necrozma-dusk-mane: / :scizor:
C -> UR - all of these mons have a niche that is either entirely eclipsed by another mon or have no niche at all

a catch-up via viability
as the metagame thread has not had much in the way of updates since the OMPL metagame passed, I figured it would be nice to give the community a viability ranking to showcase how the metagame has changed over the past few months. thank you to those who have been testing with me the past few weeks, it made figuring out some of these newer picks easier!

S Rank

:Regieleki:Regieleki [Altarianite, Glalitite, Light Clay]
pretty much unanimously best mon, insane momentum pick for almost every build. altarianite regieleki practically defines which ground types are good and which ground types are not by simply existing, as being a ground type that can't handle eleki makes you excessively prone to being shuffled by the various potent voltturn cores that eleki can create. moreover, eleki is the absolute best tool against offense that you could wish for, practically beating out every lead, being able to revenge kill a large portion of the metagame and being able to trade with a large portion of the metagame. it's pretty much everything you'd want in an offensive mon atm.

A Rank

A+

:Ho-Oh:Ho-Oh [Heavy-Duty Boots, Choice Band]
ho-oh's a top tier glue for practically any non offense build atm. being able to beat mosa, lunala without power herb and pivot into various things it really shouldn't seem like it has the power to like regieleki and genesect makes it the prime pick for a mixed wall atm.

:Rhyperior:Rhyperior [Tyranitarite]
the best tank in the metagame, very consistent stealth rock setter, beats lun / etern / fires. rhyp really holds its own regarding just role compression in general, and has some very strong offenses for a mon that's so bulky on both sides. sd rest sets are absolutely amazing for balance not only for their ability to set sandstorm, which can chip away at key targets, but for their ability to demolish certain teamcomps without really trying on fat. probably the best wincon there, too.

:Slowbro:Slowbro [Sablenite, Manectite, Cameruptite]
bro has started to fall off since urshifu-r and groudon started becoming more common imo, as it is not a great check to either. low speed and difficulty in setting up fs / lack of util also significantly impairs it compared to mew. however, the mon still holds its A+ viability due to it still being a decent check to urshifu-r (albeit somewhat situational) and being one of the few magic bouncers that actually performs its role properly.

A

:Blissey:Blissey [Ampharosite, Sablenite]
defensive glue + guaranteed rocks. blissey's role hasn't really changed, but the metagame around it has - but for better or worse, I cannot really say for sure. the physical side of the spectrum has blissey get more noticed teammates like buzzwole and mew to pair with it, whereas the special side of the spectrum sees mons like spectrier leaving the fray and heatran and genesect entering instead. blissey has, of course, already adapted to this by running flamethrower instead of shadow ball. so it really hasn't changed a whole lot tbh.

:Corviknight:Corviknight [Venusaurite, Sablenite, Salamencite]
venusaurite corviknight has been seeing some pretty strong usage recently as pivots to groudon & eternatus, and as an acceptable defogger vs the current metagame compared to the amount of matchups sab can pull. bulk up sets are still decemt but honestly not all that worth it atm.

:Eternatus:Eternatus [Life Orb, Black Sludge, Power Herb, Metronome]
yet again downtrending entering into ompl, but started seeing a lot more usage nearing the end of ompl and afterward. etern really does a good job at pressuring the best picks in the metagame and beating some of the new picks like urshifu-r. it has also been benefitting from the drops in viability of mons like solgaleo, which would otherwise be solid offensive checks to it. very solid wallbreaker & balance glue

:groudon:Groudon [Leftovers, Life Orb]
groudon counters are very difficult to fit on current teams. 3a groudon is almost guaranteed to take a mon by virtue of it just outliving any good hit that a mon can throw at it, and use its insane 2hko potential to just muscle through the mons that are supposed to stand in its way. additionally, lefties make it a very durable regieleki answer, and one of the best ways to exploit teams that overly abuse eleki as a source of momentum.

:Magearna:Magearna [Manectite, Sablenite, Pinsirite, Venusaurite, Latiasite]
magearna might be the only good cleric in the metagame - that's pretty much its main niche. magearna still does a really good job at handling some of the less used wallbreakers, but coming out of ompl I think it's found a really hard time trying to define itself on bulky offense due to what's trending, and especially the ominous presence of kyurem and magnezone. calm mind sets might be used to get around magearna's passivity issues but more often than not actually make them even more noticable. still pretty good in general as a pick, and third option coverage options like grass knot are still relatively underused.

:Mew:Mew [Manectite, Sablenite, Ampharosite]
defensive glue that sets up fs, actually beats groudon unlike slowbro, but exchanges this for a poorer rhyperior and urshifu-r matchup unless mew carries wisp. sab sets are very dangerous to deal with without mold breaker, and mew also beats down blissey pretty easily with body press - it does require some support against setup though to avoid getting crit through

:Lunala:Lunala [Leftovers, Power Herb, Heavy-Duty Boots]
fallen off a little due to increase in usage in darks, and competition with mew / slowbro. still pretty devastating with herb but bulky cm sets are honestly pretty bad atm. they don't really win games at all in current meta and suffer from rhyperior / blissey being so common.

:urshifu:Urshifu-Rapid-Strike [Metagrossite, Aerodactylite]
rising star wallbreaker that abuses common usage of manec pivots & ho-oh / rhyperior cores by using an uncommon attacking type, which is really helped by the common usage of regieleki. urshifu-r also tends to breed future sight cores that yet again further offensive presence, and its ability to check various ground types like rhyperior in a pinch is super useful. whilst etern and alt zyg are rising in usage a little post-ompl, they also aren't 100% safe either due to access to ice punch.

:Zygarde:Zygarde [Lucarionite, Altarianite, Heracronite]
zygarde was doing bad in ompl - however, I do believe this to be the issue of zygarde sets being poorly optimized for a balance meta. lucarionite dragon tail sets still are probably top 5 biggest threats to balance, and the recent resurgence in usage of altarianite has also made teams think twice about what they need to beat this mon. steels won't really do it for -ates anymore thanks to eleki & this guy.

A-

:Genesect:Genesect [Cameruptite, Altarianite, Glalitite]
very solid lategame sweeper, currently messes with cores heavily and doesn't have easily splashable answers (i.e spdef ho-oh, flamethrower blissey, flare blitz solgaleo, heatran)

:Heatran:Heatran [Ampharosite, Charizardite Y]
loves the new meta, very good rocks setter + poisons loads of the meta + entei / etern counter. only issue is that rhyperior / tyranitar builds really don't treat it well, and it gets owned by faster builds using things like urshifu-r. could rise higher in the future but not really many builds proving its viability atm

:pheromosa:Pheromosa [Aerodactylite, Lopunnite]
stickbug variant of urshifu-r, doesn't beat ho-oh and is considerably frailer but actually does a fairly reliable job at rapid spinning and forces a lot of damage with u-turn. mosa is a bit easier to punish however. recently seen more usage post ompl as future sight cores start developing

:Solgaleo:Solgaleo [Metagrossite, Aerodactylite, Manectite]
was a significant threat until people started using balance with actual physical tanks and then this thing fell off hard. still pretty useful for its defensive utility in combination with how threatening it can be offensively, but it often fails to make a dent because of a lack of boosting

B Rank

B+

:buzzwole:Buzzwole [Venusaurite, Metagrossite]
big ground resist. beats mosa to a pulp, groudon can't really do much vs it either. metagrossite sets unproven and are worse vs mosa but have some pretty solid offensive presence and patch up buzzwole's more notable issues in active response to things.

:Entei:Entei [Altarianite, Pinsirite]
read: solgaleo but this mon doesn't really have the same defensive utility, and is often outclassed by regieleki in terms of speed control. it still sees usage on HO occasionally and still has its niches for bulky offense but entei is no longer as viable as it was made out to be

:Hippowdon:Hippowdon [Sablenite]
hippo's decent ig but currently suffers a lot from competition from rhyp and zyg-c in a metagame where urshifu-r actually exists. it still has a solid niche by being the only true eleki answer with recovery, however outside of this I feel like I'd rather just use helm zyg atm as hippo doesn't beat much as a bouncer right now either.

:Landorus-Therian:Landorus-Therian [Salamencite]
sucks compared to its sm counterpart. corv usage really hampers this mon and it continues to dislike slowbro and mew being common. still a pretty solid fit for bulky offense but even then bulky offense is not always in the best place. good wallbreaker otherwise

:Magnezone:Magnezone [Lucarionite, Diancite]
zone is actually surprisingly strong as a wallbreaker. not only does it trap magearna & corviknight, practically preventing them from doing any of the pivoting business, and also manages to trap genesect, it also has very few ground types that can handle adaptability flash cannon. combined with the presence of steel beam making it even harder to resist getting 2HKOd by zone and you have a wallbreaker that can very quickly force things into volt switch wars.

:Slowking-Galar:Slowking-Galar [Aggronite, Cameruptite]
ol' reliable (genuinely not sure what to say about this mon other than it has done what it usually does)

:Tyranitar:Tyranitar [Heracronite, Pinsirite]
big ttar, ghost resist alternative to rhyperior. less longevity but more initial power

:zygarde-complete: Zygarde-Complete [Leftovers, Rocky Helmet]
big zyg saw some pretty solid usage during ompl as a balance pick that can phaze out various setup threats. easily beats slowking-g / sab mew builds. whilst I do think it has faded a little using leftovers, I have found a better niche for it with helmet sets that are actually pretty solid in the metagame for staving off mosa / urshifu-r from just u-turning on everything. it also helps punish eleki from just clicking -ate moves all the time so there's another reason to use big zyg.

B

:Hydreigon:Hydreigon [Blastoisinite, Altarianite]
broken breaker on paper (as well as being a pretty solid ho-oh / lun resist!) but struggles to break common cores in reality due to pivoting. was seen quite a bit by me in ompl.

:Kartana:Kartana [Metagrossite]
kartana had a good run going into ompl as a breaker, but more recently it has been falling upon hard times as mons like magearna, mew, ho-oh and eternatus continue to have more and more usage. as well as this, it suffers from competition from other ground resistant wallbreakers like urshifu-r which do not have as hard of a time making progress.

:kyurem:Kyurem [Heracronite]
turns out having ice as your only stab isn't a bad thing when you're as powerful as kyurem. most steels in the metagame either cannot break kyurem or fold to boosted icicle spears, sans solgaleo and some other venusaurite mons. additionally, kyurem is one of the best partners for magnezone, which can get rid of these frustrating threats, which in combination makes for a pretty secure sweeper. outside of this it is pretty hard to support however, and it can fold pretty quickly to offensive pressure.

:skarmory:Skarmory [Gyaradosite, Ampharosite]
spikes are good! skarm's niche is very team dependent, but it happens to be an excellent wall to the likes of solgaleo and kartana, and is a great response to rhyperior & tyranitar if left in its base forme.

:spectrier:Spectrier [Lucarionite, Manectite]
I wish spectrier was better at breaking, but likewise with a lot of theoretically good breakers in the metagame, spectrier has been adapted to in ways that would seem insufficient, but are just enough to limit spectrier to 1 KO at best. really wishes it could use its solid speed but its coverage just stomps it on the way - would be nice to have fighting coverage to stomp blissey and rhyperior.

:Swampert:Swampert [Sablenite]
saw some usage in ompl originally on bulky offense, then once people realized those comps were bad swampert dropped off the face of the earth. swampert has seen some resurgences in some offense structures however, as swampert has possibly one of the best matchups for a magic bouncer in the metagame - most stealth rock users cannot set them without either being punished by rocks theirselves or being unable to set them entirely.

:Weavile:Weavile [Scizorite]
saw some usage in ompl then died off once people started using more magearna. has continued to be rather mediocre as urshifu-r and venu corv usage pick up. [tentative ranking - beat up has been nerfed as it only takes into account the attack stats of the base formes of mons]

:Xerneas:Xerneas [Power Herb]
turns out this mon is actually a pretty good sweeper. whilst it may have some key weaknesses such as -atespeed being able to revenge kill it at a high percent and some steel types like solgaleo outright stopping xern from making much in the way of progress, it still likes the current meta as it takes advantage of the current structures of teamcomps and unlikeliness of teams to have a steel that will properly beat xern.

B-

:Arcanine:Arcanine [Altarianite]
legacy pick for ompl. was cool when weavile was common, but now only really features on some groudon builds as a btec entei with recovery. still a decent niche all things considered though, and will pretty quickly smack builds without a ho-oh.

:dialga:Dialga [Choice Specs]
fun breaker, will just smack things around with draco. needs toxic to make good progress though, as it does tend to suffer at the likes of ho-oh and is relatively prediction reliant.

:Dragonite:Dragonite [Altarianite, Salamencite]
can't actually think of a good reason to run this atm outside of mencite on some HOs. dnite is poor speed control if you try to make it defensive too as fairy resists are absolutely everywhere

:Excadrill:Excadrill [Glalitite, Latiosite]
drill still has a minor niche as a wallbreaker that can also reliably spin, but tends to suffer a lot as a ground due to lack of recovery and poor bulk with glalitite. latiosite sets are better at beating eleki but tend to be worse vs everything else.

:Milotic:Milotic [Sablenite, Slowbronite]
I honestly don't like this mon tbh, but I can at least see why people run it as a means of beating some of the better hazard setters atm / compressing a check to fat cm lun as well. fun mon, but not my favourite, still better than the C ranks though

:Shuckle:Shuckle [Gyaradosite, Ampharosite]
if eleki was banned this mon would be B+ without a doubt. however, it does exist, therefore shuckle (and webs teams as a whole) are relatively inconsistent at this current point in time. not brilliant vs fat either I find unlike last gen.

:Toxapex:Toxapex [Banettite, Gyaradosite]
I genuinely don't think I've had a reason to use this once in 2021, but this mon is making people run tpunch on urshifu-r so it's gotta be somewhat worth it right?

:urshifu:Urshifu [Choice Band]
urshifu's a niche breaker that counterteams stuff like demon mew. good with future sight support, although it does suffer with speed issues.

:yveltal:Yveltal [Choice Specs]
not garbage bin lun check, but instead it's blast hydrei (mode 2). like dialga, fun breaker but requires some momentum to get it going.

C rank

C+

:Tapu Lele:Tapu Lele [Diancite]
once corv dies this will become at least decent I swear

:Terrakion:Terrakion [Lopunnite, Lucarionite, Tyranitarite]
once terrak gets a switchin it will become at least decent I swear

:Zeraora:Zeraora [Pinsirite]
once balance no longer becomes good it will become at least decent I swear

C

:Mandibuzz:Mandibuzz [Sablenite]
garbage bin lun check. not that useful rn I will be honest

:Victini:Victini [Banettite, Lucarionite, Charizardite Y]
this mon requires 7 moveslots to be viable beyond counterteaming certain builds. just use heatran if you want a groudon partner.

:Zapdos:Zapdos [Sablenite, Manectite]
garbage bin kartana check. wait, kartana is also not that great...

C-

:Calyrex-Ice:Calyrex-Ice [Choice Band, Heavy-Duty Boots]
:kyurem-white: Kyurem-White [Life Orb, Choice Specs]
:Mewtwo:Mewtwo [Life Orb]
:Tapu Koko:Tapu Koko [Lucarionite, Gardevoirite]
:zarude:Zarude [Metagrossite, Altarianite]

all of these mons are part of the garbage bin and have some undefined niche that has yet to be fulfilled properly. in theory these mons are ok but I have yet to believe that they could actually put in work over a more viable pick, sans m2

READER'S BONUS:

here are some teams that I've been working on to showcase some of these mons:

:kyurem: :mew: :ho-oh: :rhyperior: :zygarde: :magnezone:
kyuzone
kyurem + magnezone is a really solid core! both of them are pretty solid wallbreakers that let in mons that tend to be benefitted by the other. magnezone also traps steel types which can otherwise give kyurem annoyance. mew helps further this by giving future sight, something that is capable of deterring urshifu-r and buzzwole from switching into kyurem. it is also capable of answering -atespeed, another thing that both kyurem and magnezone tend to dislike. ho-oh is mostly here as a pivot into lunala, altarianite zygarde and pheromosa - it can also answer a few other threats in a pinch + is a decent defogger. rhyp supports these two members by being a decent deterrent for power herb lunala, and countering eternatus and heatran, two mons that would otherwise decimate this team. zygarde is here as speed control and as a solid partner to magnezone, which can take corviknight and magearna out of the game, and severely threaten slowbro, mew and ho-oh.

:buzzwole: :hydreigon: :groudon: :slowbro: :heatran: :regieleki:
offbuzz
offensive buzz was mostly born out of my desire to have a functional groudon / rhyperior check that isn't passive af or is weak to a current metagame adaptation. whilst it isn't the best in terms of wallbreaking, it does do the tank job better than some other mons (solgaleo!) can claim to do. pretty much the entire team is designed to support it with another threat it struggles with (i.e hydreigon for lunala / beats psychics). this build also ended up being a groudon build as I felt having a ground that can both take pressure off of buzzwole vs eleki and dish out significant pressure onto every single one of buzzwole's answers was worthwhile.

:regieleki: :urshifu: :magearna: :mew: :rhyperior: :eternatus:
urshifu
urshifu isn't really that menacing now that it's mega stone got taken away from it, but it does have a niche in being a strong breaker that can patch up weaknesses to "demon" boosters (i.e mew, slowbro, magearna). as usual, with rhyp being the all utility mons it is, it was an easy fit here. eternatus is a solid wallbreaker that checks -atespeed in a pinch, and has very solid longevity vs bulkier teams. particularly, it's a good way of forcing out pivots like mew / slowbro when urshifu can't really do the same thing, and is a good way of switching into ho-oh when rhyperior is too busy checking eleki. magearna also features on this build as a general purpose pivot that can beat down various dark types & keep pressure off of eleki / mew when needed. the mew here is demon mew - you might be wondering why I skipped out on tspikes, and it's because I noticed that a lot of teams simply don't have counterplay to it regardless of if tspikes are there or not. it's also one of the best magic bouncers in the metagame as it can keep rocks from going up against nearly the entire metagame and forces moldy setters to mega suboptimally.

Heya; the Mix and Mega Viability Rankings finally got an official update: we decided since there was a huge amount of changes since the last one, we're not making a changelist as there are just far too many changes to note. Reasoning will come later; but getting this out now was a priority due to how outdated the old VR was.

After the recent Urshifu-R and Pheromosa restrictions, the Mix and Mega council has felt the need to add a small update to the VR to highlight up and coming Pokemon in OM Grand Slam. Keep an eye out for the set compendium using these sets soon!

Hello everyone!

We, the council, have been working on a set compendium for the current metagame (as of the most recent update in this thread) for the past couple weeks, and we have finally completed it for everyone's use!

https://pokepast.es/8b31b0cd93c989a4

Feel free to post any critiques, questions or suggestions on this thread or on Discord.

Now, while having a setpedia is really cool, this is also my 100th post (finally), so I'm here to give some shoutouts to some of the amazing people I've met over my year plus of being on Smogon and PS.

First and foremost, it has been an amazing experience to become a part of such a great online community, in boths OMs and Smogon as a whole. Onto the individual shoutouts!

UT- you were my first and best friend on smogon and PS and you are a genuinely amazing person that I am so glad I have been able to interact with. From all our test games to you being the first react on a lot of my posts to the dog pics being sent, its been amazing to get to know you. You've helped me improve at AAA and been very patient with my constant questions, and eventually got me into writing analyses which just led to more questions. I look forward to the times I see your icon have a 1 next to it on discord, whether its about mons or otherwise. And last but most certainly not least, congrats and good luck with Fletchling! <3

beauts- you are an awesome, very encouraging person who would probably tell me I could win no matter the meta and no matter the opponent. Since OMSL, its been a pleasure to get to know you and to talk about mnm among other things. Its been a great experience on mnm council so far and you are no small part of it. One of these days I'll actually start beating you in tests ;)

Chazm- we haven't really known each other for too too long, but you are an amazing person and I'm very glad I have gotten to know you better and had the opportunity to talk with you about mnm and you asking me to be on council was one of the best moments I've had on smogon so far. You are an amazing player and I'm glad you decided not to quit oms for the time being, would've been a rough couple weeks without u lol
Also lydia is a very nice name :)

Dr. PhD BJ- you are a very cool guy and since you like the Bruins, I can't not like you. I still appreciate that you tried to get me onto the Northeast roster for WC and even tho it didn't quite work out for me or for the team, you were a great presence, not to mention a goated stab player. Hopefully Northeast can do better next year, and the Bruins win it all this year. Also, grats on the ladybug :)

in the hills- you are a really cool person, a great artist and also a great room owner. I probably don't even know the half of what you do and have done and its still impressive especially while still being so nice. You also have really funny stab sets, including golurk that somehow also works. Also, this screenshot is funny

Quantum Tesseract- you are a cool guy who is really good at mons and I'm glad I'm able to be on council at the same time as you. back when i started playing oms on ladder every time I matched into you, I was determined to win. that only ever happened once, but I cant deny that that helped me to get where i am today in mons. Also, we're glad to have you back!

All of OM staff- if I haven't said your name here yet, its not because i hate you dw. there are probably too many of you to write out in a post like this, but you are all amazing people who have done and are doing an excellent job with the room and the forums and I'm happy to count myself among you.

Lobby staff- this isn't OM related at all and i know that most of y'all will not read this, but you guys are a great group of people that I'm glad I can call myself a part of.

Thats all i can think of for the moment, if you weren't on the list I probably forgot but you are still very much appreciated <3
Now, if you didn't scroll through and read all that why not??? I hope you can get some good use of the setpedia and that you have a good day :)

Hello, I've come to write another update for the MnM VR. Throughout OMPL, we've seen a large influx of new techs, and thus the reasoning for these rises & drops will likely take a few days to write. As for now, I have the new VR ready.

VR is a bit old so I'll give my personal VR here with some noms:
S

:blissey:Blissey [Ampharosite, Sablenite, Slowbronite]

:solgaleo:Solgaleo [Metagrossite, Venusaurite, Manectite, Aerodactylite, Cameruptite] A+ -> S
Solgaleo has proven its strengths, especially as new sets emerged. It can be fitted on basically all team styles while having the ability to choose checks and being flexible overall. Definitely a top meta threat deserving of S.

A+

:entei:Entei [Altarianite, Pinsirite]
:ho-oh:Ho-Oh [Heavy-Duty Boots, Life Orb, Choice Band]
Life Orb has proven to be a viable item for Ho-Oh for defensive teams that can keep Rock out.
:regieleki:Regieleki [Altarianite, Glalitite, Light Clay]
:slowbro:Slowbro [Sablenite, Manectite, Cameruptite]

A

:landorus-therian:Landorus-Therian [Salamencite, Slowbronite]
:magearna:Magearna [Manectite, Pinsirite]
:mew:Mew [Manectite, Sablenite, Ampharosite, Blastoisinite]
:zapdos-galar:Zapdos-Galar [Metagrossite, Aerodactylite]

A-

:dragapult:Dragapult [Lucarionite]
:groudon:Groudon [Leftovers, Life Orb, Lum Berry]
:heatran:Heatran [Ampharosite, Charizardite Y] B+ -> A-
Heatran is probably the best Rocker for more offense oriented teams besides Landorus-T, but unlike Landorus-T, it doesn't need to explode to get the job done against Magic Bounce (mostly against those with pivots). It does struggle to get Rock against Ho-Oh, however you can tech Ancient Power if it's really necessary. Heatran also acts like Entei check pre Mega and is fairly bulky as well.
:hippowdon:Hippowdon [Pinsirite, Sablenite]
:kartana:Kartana [Metagrossite]
:lunala:Lunala [Power Herb, Heavy-Duty Boots]
:milotic:Milotic [Sablenite]
:zapdos:Zapdos [Lucarionite, Cameruptite]
:zygarde:Zygarde [Lucarionite, Altarianite, Heracronite]
Zygarde is still a dangerous wincon with Thousand Arrows and other tools, especially with the new SubSplit set to stall walls out of PP.

B+

:barraskewda:Barraskewda [Lopunnite]
:excadrill:Excadrill [Latiosite, Glalitite, Pinsirite, Metagrossite, Latiasite, Latiosite]
Nobody uses Metagrossite Excadrill. Latiosite is fringe viable. I have found Pinsirite very great to use, especially to flip the matchup against Ground and Fighting moves.
:genesect:Genesect [Cameruptite, Altarianite]
:hydreigon:Hydreigon [Blastoisinite, Absolite]
:rhyperior:Rhyperior [Tyranitarite]
:skarmory:Skarmory [Ampharosite, Gyaradosite]
:tapu koko:Tapu Koko [Manectite, Lucarionite]
Lucarionite Koko while still lacks damage, is usable in pivot spam team to punish defense cores.
:xerneas:Xerneas [Power Herb, Choice Scarf, Choice Specs]
:zeraora:Zeraora [Lopunnite, Pinsirite]

B

:buzzwole:Buzzwole [Aerodactylite, Metagrossite]
:corviknight:Corviknight [Sablenite, Venusaurite, Salamencite]
Nobody uses this
:dragonite:Dragonite [Salamencite, Altarianite, Pinsirite]
:keldeo:Keldeo [Lucarionite]
:kyurem:Kyurem [Heracronite]
:magnezone:Magnezone [Diancite, Lucarionite] B+ -> B
Even as a Magnezone (and trapping in general) enjoyer, it's just so inconsistent at what it's supposed to do, unless you run a very specific set for something. Can't trap Amphy Skarm, Magearna can tank hits and even run EV spread to outspeed it. Physical Solgaleo and Kartana can nuke it, +6 Body Press doesn't even 2HKO Venu/Latiasite Solgaleo and lose 1v1. And the fact that you run Lucarionite on this means the mon this is supposed to enable can't run a very good stone, so I can see this drop even more.
:mandibuzz:Mandibuzz [Sablenite, Metagrossite, Gyaradosite]
:swampert:Swampert [Sablenite]
:toxapex:Toxapex [Gyaradosite, Banettite, Rocky Helmet]
:victini:Victini [Metagrossite, Aerodactylite, Charizardite Y]
:zygarde-complete:Zygarde-C [Leftovers, Rocky Helmet]

B-

:golisopod:Golisopod [Aerodactylite, Lucarionite]
:marshadow:Marshadow [Choice Band] B-
Marshadow is a terrifying wallbreaker with unresisted STABs, and Poltergeist in general is very spammable. It also has a pretty usable Speed stat as well. However, running Jolly does mean it misses out on some 2HKOs like Milotic.
:melmetal: Melmetal [Choice Band] B-
Switching in against this is no easy task. Pivots like Milotic and Slowbro risk switching in to pivot even against Double Iron Bash due to its insane flinch chance. Melmetal itself is pretty fat, being able to check non Focus Blast Xern and Regieleki short term, among others.

:slowking-galar:Slowking-Galar [Aggronite, Cameruptite]
:zekrom:Zekrom [Life Orb]
:rayquaza:Rayquaza [Choice Band, Life Orb] C -> B-
Having used Rayquaza and also seen QT use it, I can attest that it's very frightening, being able to 2HKO walls like Blissey, Slowbro and Milotic with Adamant while still having Extreme Speed to revenge kill.
:urshifu: Urshifu [Choice Band] B-
Just another generic wallbreaker tbh.

:toxtricity: Toxtricity [Glalitite] B-
This is a very dangerous cleaner that doesn't need much chip damage to do its job. It is, however, vulnerable to chip damage itself. Drain Punch mixed invalidates Blissey as an answer, while its typing resists both Flying and Fairy, meaning it does mitigate said chip. Still, most likely taking a hit to up and still poor bulk can stop it from really shine.

:zarude:Zarude [Metagrossite, Lopunnite] C -> B- Zarude had some problems with Etern, but now it can more freely run moves without 4mss. Being able to scare Water-types with Power Whip and Ho-Oh with Rock Slide coupled with decent bulk and Ground resistance makes it an ok mon, better than C rank at least.

C

:arctozolt:Arctozolt [Lucarionite] C
If this chooses the correct move you can't switch in against it at all, but nearly 0 defensive value and somewhat reliant on prediction holds it back.

:blaziken:Blaziken [Pinsirite] C
When I tried messing around with Last Resort, I found that Blaziken is also beaming with potential, thanks to Speed Boost pre-Mega.

:arcanine:Arcanine [Altarianite] B- -> C
Morning Sun is nice and all, but I can't see why you don't run Entei most of the time.
:Dugtrio: Dugtrio [Lucarionite] C
It's like Magnezone, also inconsistent and relies on Screech to eliminate what it should (and hopefully live their attack).

:shuckle:Shuckle [Ampharosite, Gyaradosite]
:spectrier:Spectrier [Lucarionite]
:terrakion:Terrakion [Lucarionite, Lopunnite]
:tyranitar:Tyranitar [Pinsirite, Heracronite]
UR Tyranitar is really not usable.
:weavile: Weavile [Scizorite] C
It can do serious damage without Magearna, but if there is, well... better run Magnezone

:yveltal:Yveltal [Heavy-Duty Boots, Choice Specs] B- -> C Boots compete with Ho-Oh, Specs competes with Rayquaza as a Flying Wallbreaker, and it's worse than both.
:zamazenta:Zamazenta [Aerodactylite]

Maybe?: I think these should be ranked somewhere, but really not sure about them
:Dialga: Dialga [Leftovers]
Ok, so the set I truly believe Dialga should use is:
:ss/Dialga:
Dialga @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Substitute
- Dragon Tail
- Iron Head
This looks like a complete meme, but when I look at teams, this really feels like it can just 6-0 a large numbers of team.
:tapu bulu: Tapu Bulu
It's like Zarude but with a better starting ability. That said, its Speed can be a let down so I'm not certain where this should be.
:nidoking: Nidoking [Gyaradosite]
Deals with Regieleki and Xerneas pre-Mega. Good enough offensive stats to annoy Defoggers and Spinners and set Rock.
:polteageist: Polteageist [Slowbronite]
With Slowbronite, it can afford to EV funny stuff to live hits and Strength Sap things like Entei.
:Tsareena: Tsareena [Altarianite]
A spinner that differentiates itself from Eleki with resistance to Ground and may also find use for Queenly Majesty pre-Mega.
