Doesn't matter there, he started the thread.

Older metalcore (like Converge) counts. Mainstream bullshit and melodic metalcore (such as ABR) don't.

I've been hugely into death metal recently... must've discovered 70-80 albums in the last few weeks. Think it's time to shift focus. What are the preferred thrash albums of you guys? Deathened thrash is good too, doesn't have to be pure or old or modern or w/e. (Don't include the obvious stuff: big 4, Coroner, Exodus, Creator, Sodom, Sadus, Sepultura)

btw anyone who wants advice on death/thrash should PM me because I'm already very knowledgeable on the former and will be knowledgeable on the latter within a few days :)

My top ten thrash metal albums

01. Megadeth - Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!
02. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
03. Coroner - Punishment for Decadence
04. Metal Church - Metal Church
05. Overkill - Feel the Fire
06. Merciless - The Awakening (Death/Thrash)
07. Massacra - Enjoy the Violence (Death/Thrash)
08. Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
09. Ripping Corpse - Dreaming with the Dead (Death/Thrash)
10. Infernäl Mäjesty - None Shall Defy

i hate almost everything thrash i've heard.

but apparently Mekong Delta is considered thrash and their new album is pretty damn great.

A pretty good thrashy death album I just listened to was From Beyond by Massacre. It was pretty obvious that there's a lot of Slayer influence, and the solos make Kerry King look like a virtuoso, but the riffs were solid. Good album imo

Megadeth is really out of place and I see no Death Angel, but otherwise this is a good list.

If Megadeth should be on the list, KimB should be replaces with Rust in Peace.

I just think there are way more thrash bands that own Megadeth. Slayer's overrated too, but I'd put them there if not Death Angel.

Dark Angel destroys Megadeth anyway.

Dark Angel were very good, however Time Does Not Heal was horrible. 246 riffs do not amount to much if they are uninteresting. I find Slayer overrated too, their only albums I really love are Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits. I love Rust in Peace, however I love Killing Is My Business. . . and Business Is Good! more.

Killing Is My Business. . . and Business Is Good! > Peace Sells. . . But Who's Buying > Rust in Peace > So Far, So Good. . . So What!

(1985) Killing Is My Business. . . and Business Is Good! 5/5
(1986) Peace Sells. . . But Who's Buying? 5/5
(1988) So Far, So Good. . . So What! 5/5
(1990) Rust in Peace 5/5
(1992) Countdown to Extinction 4/5
(1994) Youthanasia 3.5/5
(1997) Cryptic Writings 3.5/5
(1999) Risk 2/5
(2001) The World Needs a Hero 1/5
(2004) The System Has Failed 3/5
(2007) United Abominations 2/5
(2009) Endgame 3.5/5

^Remove the names and you get a summary of the entire Big 4. Except Metallica.

And one bad album > 3+ bad albums.

I don't like all the big four all that much, save Megadeth being that they are my favorite thrash metal band. Dark Angel is actually my second favorite thrash band, if not Overkill or Metal Church.

Well to start a new topic, my death metal list.

01. Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
02. Sinister - Cross the Styx
03. Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream
04. Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
05. Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence
06. Unanimated - Ancient God of Evil
07. Carnage - Dark Recollections
08. Immolation - Dawn of Possession
09. Autopsy - Severed Survival
10. Malevolent Creation - Retribution

Have you heard Blood Red Throne? They're my favorite death metal band right now followed by Skinless.
I've heard of Skinless and I'll be sure to look into Blood Red Throne later. My favorite death metal album from this century at the moment is The Horror by Tribulation. Seriously, the riffs are godly. I hope to see more from Tribulation as well as another magnificent traditional heavy metal band Adam Zaars is in called Enforcer.

Top 10 death metal albums you say?

Cynic - Focus
Immolation - Close to a World Below
Cryptopsy - Blasphemy Made Flesh
Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Death - Scream Bloody Gore
At the Gates - The Red In The Sky Is Ours
Terrorizer - World Downfall (if grind counts)
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Vader - Black to the Blind

Order is arbitrary, for the most part.

TOP TEN, no order

Immolation - Close to a World Below
Immolation - Dawn of Possession
Demilich - Nespithe
Gorguts - Obscura
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos
Drawn and Quartered - Hail Infernal Darkness
Necrophagist - Onset of Putrefaction (for laffos)
Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
Pestilence - Consvming Impvlse

pretty much standard all around

Also I've heard a lot of great things about The Horror, and I've been meaning to check it out for a while. Probably will pick it up soon.

Actually, thinking about it, !T.O.O.H.! - Rad A Trest might replace Vader on my list. Though I haven't really listened to it enough to say for sure, it's definitely a fucking good album. Anyone who likes tech death should check them out, they're a Czech band that also fuses in some grind and Czech folk elements into their brand of tech death and their vocalist is awesomely weird.
