[OVERVIEW]

Mega Altaria's fantastic typing, high all-around base stats, and deep movepool filled with useful offensive, defensive, and supportive options combine to make it one of the best Pokemon in the tier. Its powerful Pixilate-boosted Return makes it one of the tier's most dangerous sweepers with Dragon Dance, and its Dragon / Fairy typing allows it to act as a solid check to Pokemon like Latias, Hydreigon, and Crawdaunt. Access to other options like Fire Blast can make it easy for Mega Altaria to lure and weaken or KO Pokemon like Scizor and Mega Aggron, while Earthquake can break through Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Tentacruel, allowing Mega Altaria to choose its counters and making it harder to switch into. In addition, options like Facade and Refresh let it act as one of the best stallbreakers in the tier. It can also take advantage of its great bulk and access to Roost to act as one of the most sturdy defensive Pokemon in the tier, capable of taking hits from Pokemon like Krookodile and Infernape while KOing them in return thanks to its natural power. It can also run a defensive Dragon Dance set on stall teams, acting as a potent late-game sweeper while still retaining good utility through Heal Bell and its great bulk and typing. Mega Altaria is, however, held back by its low Speed, which makes it slower than Pokemon like Nidoking, Gengar, and Lucario before a boost, and particularly fast Pokemon like Mega Manectric and Mega Aerodactyl can still outspeed a +1 Mega Altaria. It also can't fit all the moves it wants onto one set, making it a little more scary on paper than it is in practice. It's often forced to Mega Evolve early in order to check Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon, which can be difficult to do and also forces it to give up Natural Cure and its Ground immunity. Finally, the prevalence of Pokemon like Amoonguss and Quagsire can make it difficult for Mega Altaria to sweep, and even if it breaks past its defensive answers, it's easily revenge killed by priority users like Mimikyu, Mamoswine, and Scizor.

Moves
========

Return and Earthquake combine to create a solid offensive combination that's nearly unresisted in UU, with only Crobat, Bronzong, Talonflame, Rotom-H and Moltres being able to handle both, giving Mega Altaria a lot of immediate power and allowing it to sweep through balanced and offensive teams alike. Facade can be used over Return, allowing Mega Altaria to take advantage of the status ailments it usually ends up falling victim to, most notably Scald burns from bulky Water-types like Slowbro and Empoleon. Fire Blast complements Facade by frying Steel-types like Scizor, and it doesn't get weakened if Mega Altaria is burned, unlike Earthquake. Facade and Fire Blast notably give Mega Altaria a phenomenal matchup against stall teams if it's afflicted with status. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy over the course of a game so that it can continuously check Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed investment with an Adamant nature makes Mega Altaria as fast and strong as possible, outspeeding threats like Starmie after a boost. An alternative EV spread of 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 Spe can be used; the added bulk makes it easier for Mega Altaria to pivot into Pokemon like Crawdaunt, and it can still outspeed Timid Primarina before a boost in addition to outspeeding Starmie after one. Natural Cure is chosen as Mega Altaria's ability to prevent it from being crippled by status moves like Toxic, which is especially useful if it's not running Facade. It also allows it to act as a status sponge before Mega Evolving.

Usage Tips
========

While Mega Altaria's typing and bulk make it pretty resilient, it shouldn't always be sent directly into foes like Hydreigon and Infernape, as they can hit it hard with coverage moves like Flash Cannon and Gunk Shot that can cripple it heavily. Mega Evolving as soon as possible is recommended unless Altaria needs to maintain Natural Cure, as it removes Altaria's Stealth Rock weakness and gives it the typing change necessary to pivot into foes like Zeraora. However, if a foe has a Pokemon like Choice Scarf Krookodile, it can be beneficial to wait to Mega Evolve, as Altaria can set up freely on a Choice-locked Earthquake. Altaria is also better at pivoting into Volcanion before Mega Evolving. It's best not to set up with Dragon Dance immediately, since most teams will carry checks to Mega Altaria like Scizor, Mega Aggron, and Doublade. Instead, attacking early-game can weaken these Pokemon to let Mega Altaria sweep late-game or open holes for its teammates. Setting up on foes that can't hurt Mega Altaria significantly is recommended, as it doesn't usually want to waste turns using Roost. Pokemon like Rotom-H, Hydreigon, and Latias are good examples, though Mega Altaria must be wary of Flash Cannon from Hydreigon. Keep Mega Altaria as healthy as possible with Roost, as residual damage from entry hazards can lead to Mega Altaria being worn down very quickly. In stall matchups, try to switch Altaria into Scald from Pokemon like Alomomola and Quagsire to power up its Facade and make it far more powerful. Natural Cure allows Mega Altaria to be played liberally, as it can absorb Toxic from them if required and continuously pivot until it is ideally inflicted with a burn. If they're not carrying Scald, it can often be worthwhile to allow Mega Altaria to be afflicted with poison so that it can break down their defensive cores with Facade, though it'll be worn down quicker itself.

Team Options
========

This set fits best on balance and offensive teams that appreciate Mega Altaria's sweeping potential and ability to contribute to the team's defensive backbone. Partners that can break through Pokemon that Mega Altaria struggles with like Amoonguss, Nidoqueen, and Mega Aggron are helpful, so Mega Altaria pairs well with Pokemon like Rotom-H and Infernape. Rotom-H can also bring Mega Altaria in on Pokemon like Latias and Hydreigon with Volt Switch. Scizor is also an excellent partner, weakening these shared checks and being able to check Pokemon that can revenge kill a boosted Mega Altaria like Mega Aerodactyl and Mamoswine, while Mega Altaria can handle Rotom-H for Scizor. Entry hazard support from Pokemon like Rhyperior and Krookodile is helpful too, putting Pokemon like Amoonguss in range of two Fire Blasts. Rhyperior can also check Moltres and Toxic Rotom-H for Mega Altaria. Empoleon also makes for a good teammate, being able to set Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria and also checking nuisances like Tentacruel, Sylveon, Latias, and Klefki. Nidoqueen is a notable partner that can set Stealth Rock, weaken Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Mega Steelix, and absorb Toxic Spikes for Mega Altaria. It also appreciates Mega Altaria's ability to check Pokemon like Krookodile and Latias in return. Doublade and Amoonguss make for good partners that can check Scizor for Mega Altaria. They also appreciate Mega Altaria's ability to check Hydreigon, Latias, and Rotom-H.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Return is Mega Altaria's most consistent STAB move. Refresh and Roost keep Mega Altaria healthy and allow it to set up multiple boosts on Pokemon that rely on status to threaten it like Empoleon, Alomomola, and Gligar. Refresh also allows it to act as a reliable status absorber even after Mega Evolving.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack and Speed investment with an Adamant nature is chosen to hit as hard and as fast as possible, but some Speed can be dropped. Using 192 Speed EVs allows Mega Altaria to outspeed Starmie after a boost while still outspeeding Primarina without one. Alternatively, 204 Speed EVs can be used with a Jolly nature in order to outspeed Mega Manectric after a boost. Finally, maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature can be used in order to guarantee a Speed tie at worst against opposing Altaria and to outspeed foes like Zeraora after a boost, but these spreads are not recommended, as Mega Manectric and Zeraora struggle to harm Mega Altaria significantly regardless.

Usage Tips
========

This set can be played more liberally against bulky teams, being able to freely set up in front of foes like Gligar and Blissey without fear and being able to pivot into Pokemon like Hydreigon and Rotom-H. It's still not recommended to bring Mega Altaria in on strong attacks, though, because it's quite easy to wear down in combination with Stealth Rock. Try to set up on Pokemon that can't threaten Mega Altaria significantly like Rotom-H, Choice Scarf Hydreigon, and Crawdaunt. Avoid setting up when Steel-types like Mega Steelix and Doublade are still active, as well as Poison-types like Amoonguss and healthy Nidoqueen, as this set has no way of removing them. Be sure to keep Mega Altaria healthy with Roost and Refresh as much as possible, as this set can often set up multiple times throughout a game. Mega Evolving as soon as possible is recommended so that Mega Altaria can check Pokemon like Hydreigon with ease.

Team Options
========

Removing Steel-types is of utmost importance when using this set, as it cannot threaten them without accruing a lot of boosts, so teammates like Krookodile and Moltres are recommended. Krookodile can also Pursuit trap certain targets like Doublade and Gengar, while Moltres can remove Pokemon like Amoonguss and Hippowdon and also checks Scizor. Reliable Scizor checks are incredibly important with this set; Rotom-H, Volcanion, Amoonguss, and Cobalion are solid options for this role. Scizor also makes for a good partner that can also lure in and weaken Pokemon like Mega Aggron and Mega Steelix with Superpower and Pursuit trap Pokemon like Doublade. Nidoqueen can perform a similar role of weakening Steel-types while setting Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria, which helps with weakening Pokemon like Moltres that Mega Altaria can struggle to break through quickly. Against stall teams, this set can find it easy to sweep if Pokemon like Quagsire and Scizor are removed. As a result, lures to Quagsire like Calm Mind Cobalion and Grass Knot Infernape make for good partners. These Pokemon can also crush Steel-types for Mega Altaria, and Infernape can fry Amoonguss.

Moves
========

Return is Altaria's most reliable STAB move and is chosen over other options like Body Slam to ensure that the paralysis caused doesn't interfere with other status conditions inflicted by Mega Altaria's teammates. Body Slam can be used on less stall-oriented teams, though, where the paralysis chance can be helpful. Flamethrower does good damage to Steel-types like Scizor and Doublade that would otherwise come in on this set for free, but Dragon Dance can be used instead on stall or semistall teams, allowing Mega Altaria to act as a strong and bulky wincon. Defog is another option that can be used if required, as Mega Altaria has a solid matchup against certain hazard setters like Chesnaught and Krookodile. Defog can also be used over Heal Bell on more offensive teams, but on stall teams it's not recommended because cleric support can otherwise be hard to fit without Articuno. Defog should also never be used with Dragon Dance. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy throughout a game and allows it to continuously check foes like Crawdaunt and Infernape.

Set Details
========

56 Speed EVs are used so that Mega Altaria can outspeed Crawdaunt, making it easier to avoid a 2HKO and ensuring Crawdaunt can't beat Mega Altaria with a boosted Hydro Vortex. The rest of the EVs are placed into HP and Defense to better check foes like Swords Dance Infernape, Crawdaunt, and Haxorus. The Speed EVs can be dropped on Dragon Dance variants, though. Natural Cure is chosen as the ability pre-Mega Evolution so that Mega Altaria doesn't have to use Heal Bell as often.

Usage Tips
========

Defensive Mega Altaria should be used liberally to check Pokemon that can't hurt it significantly like Crawdaunt, Krookodile, and Hydreigon. Be sure to keep it healthy with Roost, since it's vulnerable to all forms of chip damage and doesn't have any form of passive recovery to offset it. If running Defog, switch Mega Altaria into entry hazard setters that it has a good matchup against like Chesnaught and Krookodile so that it can remove their hazards. Dragon Dance variants are potent late-game wincons and shouldn't set up early-game. Conserve Mega Altaria's HP and set it up safely when the foe's Steel- and Poison-types have been removed. Be conscious of Heal Bell's low PP, as using it too often can lead to Mega Altaria and its teammates being permanently debilitated by status conditions. Altaria should generally Mega Evolve as early as possible in order to gain the typing it needs to check foes like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon, but sometimes it's better not to if the foe has a Pokemon like Groundium Z Krookodile that can attempt to cripple or muscle through Mega Altaria.

Team Options
========

Defensive variants of Mega Altaria are most at home on balance and stall teams, where its ability to handle Pokemon like Taunt Hydreigon, Crawdaunt, and Infernape that would otherwise shred bulky teams is very appreciated. Blissey is a very notable teammate, handling powerful special attackers that Mega Altaria can't deal with like Nihilego, Nidoqueen, and Primarina, and Mega Altaria can handle physical attackers like Infernape and Zeraora in return. Gligar can provide Defog support and can check certain Pokemon that Mega Altaria struggles with like Terrakion, Cobalion, and Mimikyu. Alomomola can also blanket check these physical attackers and provide Wish support, appreciating Mega Altaria's Heal Bell support in return. Nihilego can provide Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes support and can also check Togekiss, while Mega Altaria checks Ground-types like Hippowdon and Krookodile in return. Quagsire acts as a solid answer to setup sweepers that Mega Altaria can't check on its own, like Doublade, Scizor, and opposing Mega Altaria, and it appreciates Mega Altaria's Heal Bell support a lot. Doublade can check Terrakion and resists or is immune to the Steel- and Poison-type attacks that Mega Altaria attracts from the likes of Cobalion and Nihilego, making it an effective partner. Pyukumuku is also a helpful partner for its ability to more reliably handle Pokemon like Substitute Chandelure and Nasty Plot Infernape.

Moves
========

Hyper Voice and Fire Blast create a potent attacking combination that can lay the hurt on typical Mega Altaria answers like Amoonguss, Mega Steelix and Doublade. Toxic is used to cripple Pokemon that resist Mega Altaria's attacking combination, most notably Rotom-H, Moltres, and Volcanion. It's also helpful for crippling other soft checks like Hippowdon. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy throughout the course of a game.

Set Details
========

The given HP and Defense EVs ensure that Mega Altaria can survive a Bullet Punch from Choice Band Scizor and melt it with Fire Blast if required. 96 Speed EVs are used to get the jump on Pokemon like Modest Primarina and Adamant Bewear, and the rest of the EVs maximize Mega Altaria's overall power. Natural Cure is chosen as the ability pre-Mega Evolution to help Mega Altaria shrug off status conditions from Pokemon it switches into like Quagsire and Rotom-H.

Usage Tips
========

This set is a good lure to common Pokemon like Amoonguss and Doublade, so try to catch them on the switch with Fire Blast. This set is still very bulky, so don't be afraid to use it to check Pokemon like Hydreigon and Crawdaunt if needs be; be sure to keep it healthy with Roost, though. It's often not a bad idea to tank a Bullet Punch from Choice Band Scizor and hit it with a Fire Blast in return to free up teammates such as Terrakion. Bring Mega Altaria in on Pokemon that can't really hurt it like Chesnaught and Zeraora so that it can fire off strong attacks. Mega Evolving as early as possible is recommended in order to better check foes like Hydreigon and Crawdaunt.

Team Options
========

This set has no way of hurting Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Tentacruel, and Nihilego, so strong Ground-types like Krookodile and Mamoswine are helpful for their ability to threaten them. Stealth Rock support is recommended to weaken the Fire-types that wall this set, since Mega Altaria's best way to threaten them is Toxic. Reliable setters include Rhyperior, Cobalion, and the aforementioned Krookodile. Other Steel-types like Doublade and Scizor make for excellent partners that can check Pokemon like Nihilego, Cobalion, and Togekiss. Scizor can also bring Mega Altaria in safely on Pokemon like Amoonguss with U-turn and it can Pursuit trap Nihilego too. Other wallbreakers like Nidoking, Infernape, and Terrakion pair well with Mega Altaria, being able to blow up Pokemon it struggles with like Tentacruel, Nihilego, and Toxic Rotom-H. Pokemon that can take advantage of Mega Altaria's ability to lure in and remove Steel-types, such as Mimikyu, Terrakion, and Haxorus, also make for good partners. Gligar is a notably great partner that can check Pokemon like Hippowdon and Rotom-H with much more ease if Mega Altaria lands a Toxic on them, making it a much more reliable Defogger and wall.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A mixed attacking set with Return or Body Slam, Earthquake, Fire Blast, and Roost is useable, but it struggles a lot with Pokemon like Rotom-H and Moltres, and it can't break through Pokemon like Amoonguss without a lot of Special Attack investment. A specially defensive set can be considered for its ability to better handle Pokemon like Hydreigon and Nasty Plot Infernape, but it's generally outclassed by the physically defensive set which can check these Pokemon anyway, and it still struggles to deal with Latias. Mega Altaria's EV spreads are fairly customizable, especially on the Refresh set. For example, 84 Defense EVs can be used to ensure that Mega Altaria survives two Earthquakes from Choice Scarf Krookodile.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Scizor can threaten Mega Altaria with a powerful Bullet Punch, bringing its sweep to an end. Other Steel-types like Doublade, Mega Aggron, and Mega Steelix can take hits from Mega Altaria and retaliate with their STAB moves, even after a boost, though they do fear Fire Blast. Bronzong is a great counter to Mega Altaria, shrugging off most attacks, though it struggles to take repeated Fire Blasts from the special set.

**Poison-types**: Pokemon like defensive Nidoqueen and Amoonguss have the bulk necessary to tank a boosted Earthquake and retaliate with their STAB moves. While less reliable overall, Tentacruel and Nihilego can check certain Mega Altaria sets and KO it in return. Crobat can also take on Dragon Dance Altaria with ease.

**Faster Pokemon**: Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Beedrill are capable of outspeeding a boosted Mega Altaria. Mega Aerodactyl can remove it with Ice Fang after some chip damage, while Mega Beedrill can OHKO it with Poison Jab. Certain Choice Scarf users, such as Infernape and Nihilego, can also threaten a boosted Mega Altaria.

**Unaware Users**: Quagsire and Pyukumuku both wall Dragon Dance Altaria endlessly. Curse Quagsire can also use it as setup fodder, while both Quagsire and Pyukumuku can knock Mega Altaria out with Counter.

Access to other options like Fire Blast can make it easy for Mega Altaria to lure and weaken or KO Pokemon like Scizor and Mega Aggron, aggron takes comparatively similar amounts from EQ and Fire Blast, its Doublade and MLix that take way more from Fire Blast. This is a fair point w.r.t maggron if we're talking Special Malt sets, but the comparison to EQ straight after obviously makes it read like you are talking about the DD sets. while Earthquake can break through Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Empoleon, thing is all 3 offensive Dragon Dance sets beat Empoleon anyway unless it has Roar, you could either clarify Roar sets or maybe consider Tentacruel instead? allowing Mega Altaria to choose its counters and act as one of the best stallbreakers in the tier. Only Facade sets really stallbreak that effectively, return eq just doesn't, while refresh sets don't deal with counter/curse quag well without heavy support, as well as other techs commonly deployed on stall like defog scizor, mega aggron, or curse gligar. It can also take advantage of its great bulk and access to Roost to act as one of the most sturdy defensive Pokemon in the tier, capable of taking hits from Pokemon like Krookodile, Infernape, and Terrakion while KOing them in return thanks to its natural power. It can also run a defensive Dragon Dance set on stall teams, acting as a potent win condition while still retaining good utility through Heal Bell and its great bulk and typing. obviously while this is the most common set on stall teams and sees usage on semi stall teams too, its not the only set you'll se on stall, as sometimes people opt for defog too (as you note by slashing it on the defensive set). I'd try and fit a mention of this in too. Finally, the prevalence of Pokemon like Amoonguss and Quagsire can make it difficult for Mega Altaria to sweep, and even if it breaks past its defensive answers, it's easily revenge killed by Pokemon like Mimikyu, Mamoswine, and Scizor.

This looks good, absolute pain to write but i'd include something about how its often pressured to mega evolve quickly to deal with Hydreigon (and latias) unless its not ur only hydrei switch in and to stop taking rocks dmg, but comment on how this can be a bit awkward at times because fire blast or non heal bell/refresh sets want to keep themselves unmega'd often for a bit at same time to absorb status and to stop scizor being able to force themselves out (as well as deal with some stuff like Krook / Volc better)

Return and Earthquake combine to create a solid offensive combination that's only resisted by Crobat, Moltres, and Rotom-H in UU, just call it nearly unresisted and mention these as examples, because obviously Bronzong / Talonflame also resist it, and Bronzong is still reasonably relevant and a pretty great answr to most DD malt sets giving Mega Altaria a lot of immediate power and allowing it to sweep through balanced and offensive teams alike after a boost. Facade can be used over Return, allowing Mega Altaria to take advantage of the status moves it usually ends up falling victim to, most notably Scald burns from bulky Water-types like Slowbro and Empoleon. Fire Blast complements Facade by frying Steel-types like Scizor and it doesn't get weakened if Mega Altaria is burned, unlike Earthquake. Facade and Fire Blast notably give Mega Altaria a phenomenal matchup against stall teams if it's burned. its true it has a fabulous matchup versus stall if it gets burned; the thing is a lot of stall teams end up just completely removing Scald off their mons like Alomomola and Quagsire because Facade Malt is just so ridiculous to face, as well as the fact that a CM recover Latias catching a scald becomes 100x harder to deal with. While being toxic'd puts malt on a nasty timer that always limits how long its out for, its usually able to dismantle a stall team over the course of a longer match like this, as its facades are still completely deadly, its just a bit more vulnerable to rocky helmet alo and can't stay in very long at a time. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy over the course of a game so that it can continuously check Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed investment with an Adamant nature makes Mega Altaria as fast and strong as possible. An alternative EV spread of 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 Spe can be used; the added bulk makes it easier for Mega Altaria to pivot into Pokemon like Crawdaunt, and it can still outspeed Timid Primarina before a boost in addition to outspeeding Starmie after one scarf drei after two too if you want to mention this. Natural Cure is chosen as Mega Altaria's ability to prevent it from being crippled by status moves like Toxic, which is especially useful if it's not running Facade. you could realistically say that it allows it to serve as a status sponge while its non mega'd, switchhing into things like Spore and Toxic.

Usage Tips
========

While Mega Altaria's typing and bulk makes it pretty resilient, it shouldn't always be sent directly into foes like Hydreigon and Infernape, as they can hit it hard with coverage moves that can cripple it heavily. This is probably a bit untrue w.r.t Hydreigon, its often going to be your best pivot into it on a bunch of teams, i'd just give specific warning to like Flash Cannon from LO/Specs and I guess warn about Gunk Shot and +2 Z-Focus Blast from Nape? Mega Evolving as soon as possible is recommended unless Altaria needs to maintain Natural Cure, as it removes Altaria's Stealth Rock weakness and gives it the typing change necessary to pivot into foes like Zeraora. However, if a foe has a Pokemon like Choice Scarf Krookodile, it can be beneficial to wait to Mega Evolve as Altaria can set up freely on a Choice-locked Earthquake. You could also mention Volcanion here, unless there's a pressing need due to Rocks, you'd rather stay unmega'd so you can fish around and cure off Steam Eruption burns (or fish for them if you are facade) while avoiding being hit supereffectively by Sludge Bomb, and similarly clearing off poisons from that. It's best not to set up with Dragon Dance immediately, since most teams will carry checks to Mega Altaria like Scizor, Mega Aggron, and Doublade. Instead, attacking early-game can weaken these Pokemon so that Mega Altaria can sweep late-game or to open holes for its teammates. Setting up on foes that can't hurt Mega Altaria significantly is recommended, as it doesn't usually want to waste turns using Roost. Pokemon like Rotom-H, Hydreigon, and Chesnaught this is barely a thing anymore honestly. are good examples, though Mega Altaria must be wary of Flash Cannon from Hydreigon. oh you mentioned it down here Keep Mega Altaria as healthy as possible with Roost, as residual damage from entry hazards can lead to Mega Altaria being worn down very quickly.

Something i'd like to see is a brief comment about how to use Facadeblast in a stall/fat balance matchup. This is fairly obvious to a degree, but you can talk about how you should be sending it into stuff like Scald Alo/Quag to try and get burns, and make a comment about what you should do in matchups against no Scald teams that i mentioned previously. Doesn't need to be long but its worth mentioning imo.

Team Options
========

This set fits best on offensive teams yea FacadeBlast honestly fits pretty well on balance teams too, status sponge + stallbreaker + hydrei check and its typing etc all in one slot is fairly valuable, ur more likely to run refresh sets on an offensive team than facadeblast a lot of the time because you need a set that can quickly mega without being massively punished for it. that appreciate Mega Altaria's sweeping potential and ability to contribute to the team's defensive backbone. Partners that can break through Pokemon that Mega Altaria struggles with like Amoonguss, Nidoqueen, and Mega Aggron are helpful, so Mega Altaria pairs well with Pokemon like Rotom-H and Infernape. there's some nice two way synergy with heattom, with it bringing you in on stuff like drei / lati, obviously big lati check too. Scizor is also an excellent partner, weakening these shared checks and being able to check Pokemon that can revenge kill a boosted Mega Altaria like Mega Aerodactyl and Mamoswine, while Mega Altaria can handle Rotom-H for Scizor. you could go into a little more detail with sets here if you wanted, SD LO Bug Bite does a great job of providing the defensive utility and removing Amoonguss, but CB is definitely a nice shout too to severely weaken stuff like Mega Aggron, and can help to pressure and trap Latias so that your malt isn't really being relied on. Entry hazard support from Pokemon like Klefki, Rhyperior, and Krookodile is helpful too, putting Pokemon like Empoleon in range of a boosted Earthquake. Definitely mention how Rhyperior can check Moltres and Rotom-Heat. I don't think i've ever once seem someone actually run Klefki + Mega Altaria, most likely mega you'll see on Klefki teams is Sharpedo usually. Empo isn't really the most relevant example as far as rocks go, its still not in guaranteed range and its really not hard to chip an empo down anyway. somethnig like how it can help more easily put amoonguss into 2hko range from fire blast would be more appropriate, Empoleon also makes for a good teammate, being able to set up Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria and also checking nuisances like Tentacruel, Sylveon, and Klefki. You could mention how it can also help to check Latias too, you don't really want to rely on just malt for this. Nidoqueen is a notable partner that can set up Stealth Rock, weaken Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Mega Steelix, and absorb Toxic Spikes for Mega Altaria. It also appreciates Mega Altaria's ability to check Pokemon like Krookodile and Latias in return.

Looks good, i'd consider mentioning some other Scizor checks that pair nicely with Malt like Doublade or Amoonguss somewhere, since Heattom is the only one you've really mentioned.

Return is Mega Altaria's most consistent STAB move. Refresh and Roost keep Mega Altaria healthy and allow it to set up multiple boosts on Pokemon that rely on status to threaten it like Empoleon, Alomomola, and Gligar. I'd say something about Refresh allowing Mega Altaria to act as a status absorber even after Mega Evolving or something to try and pad that point out a little more.

Maximum Attack and Speed investment with an Adamant nature is chosen to hit as hard and as fast as possible, but some Speed can be dropped. Using 192 Spe EVs allows Mega Altaria to outspeed Starmie after a boost while still outspeeding Primarina without one. Alternatively, 204 Spe EVs can be used with a Jolly nature in order to outspeed Mega Manectric after a boost. Finally, maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature can be used in order to guarantee a Speed tie at worst against opposing Altaria and to outspeed foes like Zeraora after a boost, but these spreads are not recommended as Mega Manectric and Zeraora struggle to harm Mega Altaria significantly regardless. Other QC might disagree possibly but i don't think you should ever go Jolly on this, the power drop just doens't feel worth it when you are really reliant on frustration / return as it is.

Usage Tips
========

This set can be played more liberally against bulky teams, being able to freely set up in front of foes like Gligar and Blissey without fear. Given most bulky teams will have like multiple checks to it that can be kept alive for quite a while, playing liberally with it might involve more just using its typing to check the stuff like their Hydreis and Rotoms though for the early-to-mid game really. It's still not recommended to bring Mega Altaria in on strong attacks, though, because it's quite easy to wear down in combination with Stealth Rock. Maybe a clarifier or example to what sort of strong attacks you are referring to here? Try to set up on Pokemon that can't threaten Mega Altaria significantly like Rotom-H, Choice Scarf Hydreigon, and Crawdaunt. Avoid setting up when Steel-types like Mega Steelix and Doublade are alive, as well as Poison-types like Amoonguss and Nidoqueen, as this set has no way of threatening them. Be sure to keep Mega Altaria healthy with Roost and Refresh as much as possible, as this set can often set up multiple times throughout a game.

You can definitely make a point about trying to mega evolve this set as soon as possible in matchups versus say a Hydreigon, its often relied upon as the only Hydreigon switch in and with Refresh you are less punished for losing Natural Cure.

Team Options
========

Removing Steel-types is of utmost importance when using this set as it cannot threaten them without accruing a lot of boosts, so teammates like Krookodile and Moltres are recommended. Krookodile can also Pursuit trap certain targets like Doublade, while Moltres can remove Pokemon like Amoonguss and Nidoqueen and check Scizor. Reliable Scizor checks are incredibly important with this set; Rotom-H, Volcanion, and Cobalion are solid options for this role. Amoonguss is probably the most common one along with rotom-heat for this set if you choose to mention it. Scizor also makes for a good partner that can also lure in and weaken Pokemon like Mega Aggron and Mega Steelix with Superpower and Pursuit trap Pokemon like Doublade. Nidoqueen can perform a similar role of weakening Steel-types while setting up Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria, which helps with weakening Pokemon like Moltres that Mega Altaria can struggle to break through quickly. To lean into your next point i'd also talk about Tspikes Nidoqueen, if you can get Quagsire poisoned it'll go a long way in making its matchup a bit less safe versus you. Against stall teams, this set can find it easy to sweep if Quagsire is removed, sort of true but unfortunately there's still going to be hurdles for you in a decenat amount of stall matchups even with this gone, like Counter Pyukumuku, Curse Gligar, Bulky Scizor, etc. I would rather just say this set benefits massively from its removal / weakening than suggesting that Malt can just win straight after when teams often apply these other techs too. so lures to Quagsire like Hidden Power Grass Cobalion and Grass Knot Infernape make for good partners. Not really a fan of going specifically to a HP Grass mention on CM Coba. Volt Switch is also good and probably a lot more common, hp ice also sees some usage too. Just focusing on CM Coba in general since Z-Focus Blast still wrecks quag and commenting on how it can also remove help wear down stuff like Doublade too seems good, and mention HP grass as an option for the lure. Grass Knot Infernape is a bit of an awkward one in that its probably only going to work against an Alo-less stall, since otherwise Alo will be ur primary answer to a mixed alt, but you can definitely catch a Quagsire thinking you have Slack Off once they see Gunk Shot. These Alo-less stalls do exist though, but this pair seems a bit reliant on it. These Pokemon can also crush Steel-types for Mega Altaria, and Infernape can fry Amoonguss.

Moves

Return is Altaria's most reliable STAB move and is chosen over other options like Body Slam to ensure that the paralysis caused doesn't interfere with other status conditions inflicted by Mega Altaria's teammates. Imo you can definitely give body slam a mention, one of the bigger issues for me is often the weaker damage on stuff like infernape, but body slam is fine if you are using this on a non stall team where the paralysis interference isn't so bad and the paralysis is actually helpful. Flamethrower does good damage to Steel-types like Scizor and Doublade that would otherwise come in on this set for free, but Dragon Dance can be used instead, allowing Mega Altaria to act as a strong and bulky wincon. i'd mention you only really run this on (semi) stall where the fat win con is appreciated. Can also mention that it lets it serve as a Suicune check on like semi stall too. Defog is another option that can be used if required, as Mega Altaria has a solid matchup against certain hazard setters like Chesnaught and Krookodile. Defog can also be used over Heal Bell on more offensive teams, but on stall teams it's not recommended. If you can explain why that'd be good, but its essentially a case of you really don't want to run Heal Bell on Blissey, so unless you have Articuno then this is the only place you are actually fitting cleric support for your Alo/Quag etc. Defog should also never be used with Dragon Dance. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy throughout a came and allows it to continuously check foes like Crawdaunt and Infernape.

Set Details
========

56 Speed EVs are used so that Mega Altaria can outspeed Crawdaunt, making it easier to avoid a 2HKO and ensuring Crawdaunt can't beat Mega Altaria with a boosted Hydro Vortex. The rest of the EVs are placed into HP and Defense to better check foes like Swords Dance Infernape. This is genuinely just not a thing really, max def lets you take gunks better from mixed tho. Max def is more just to better take on daunt/hax as u can while your still dealing with hydrei and stuff well. The Speed EVs can be dropped on Dragon Dance variants, though. Natural Cure is chosen as the ability pre-Mega Evolution so that Mega Altaria doesn't have to use Heal Bell as often.

Usage Tips
========

Not necessarily here cause it doesn't make a *huge* amount of sense to put it here, but I would mention how you shouldn't be using this as your only Defogger on a stall team, this is more supplementary to pair with Gligar usually.Dragon Dance variants are potent late-game wincons and shouldn't set up early game. Conserve Mega Altaria's HP and set it up safely when the foe's Steel- and Poison-types have been removed. something about how you should be cautious to keep its HP high to deal with stuff like Daunt / Hydreigon / CM or specs Latias / Haxorus reliably would be worth. Its very bulky but its vulnerable to having z-moves thrown at it among other things and just being worn down over time into range by hazards and stuff. You could also mention about being cautious of certain coverage from CM Latias like Ice Beam or Z-Psyshock if you wanted, the latter in particular just removes you entirely at +1. Be conscious of Heal Bell's low PP, as using it too often can lead to Mega Altaria and its teammates being permanently debilitated by status conditions. Altaria should generally Mega Evolve as early as possible in order to gain the typing it needs to check foes like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon, but sometimes it's better not to if the foe has a Pokemon like Swampert or Groundium Z Krookodile that can attempt to cripple or muscle through Mega Altaria. Thing is you aren't much better off with pert if you are unmega'd, just gonna get yourself KO'd by a LO/CB Ice Punch anyway.

Team Options
========

Defensive variants of Mega Altaria are most at home on balance and stall teams, where its ability to handle Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Infernape that would otherwise shred bulky teams is very appreciated. its also your best answer to taunt hydreigon on stall, and its ability to help with Latias is really appreciated especially with Trick Specs ones. I'd try and throw a mention of this somewhere into this section, not necessarily the team options though if you think it'll fit better somewhere else. Blissey is a very notable teammate, handling powerful special attackers that Mega Altaria can't deal with like Nihilego, Nidoqueen, and Primarina, and Mega Altaria can handle physical attackers like Infernape if you think Infernape is mixed you are probably better off using your Malt to scout what sort of set its running first, even better if u aren't actually mega'd yet, and if it turns out to be mixed using your Alo instead unless you don't have it. Overheat into Gunk Shot basically kills Malt on switch in if its mega'd and either rocks up / taken some slight chip. This is somewhere where you could bring up the Taunt Hydreigon stuff i mentioned perhaps? and Zeraora in return. Gligar can provide Defog support and can check certain Pokemon that Mega Altaria struggles with, like Terrakion, Cobalion, and Mimikyu. Alomomola can also blanket check these physical attackers and provide Wish support, appreciating Mega Altaria's Heal Bell support in return. Nihilego can provide Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes support and can also check Primarina and Togekiss, you aren't going to bother with Passho Nihilego here, i'd probably just drop the Prim mention while Mega Altaria checks Ground-types like Hippowdon and Krookodile in return. Quagsire acts as a solid answer to set up sweepers that Mega Altaria can't check on its own, like Doublade, Scizor, and opposing Mega Altaria, and it appreciates Mega Altaria's Heal Bell support a lot. Doublade can check Terrakion and resists or is immune to the Steel- and Poison-type attacks that Mega Altaria attracts from the likes of Cobalion and Nihilego, making it an effective partner.

Mention Pyukumuku too, gives you a much more reliable answer to NP Infernape, which can easily blow through malt with +2 z-move if malt gets chipped a bit, also very helpful for stuff like Sub CM Chandelure which you've made tougher for yourself by running Malt not Maero, and stuff like CM reuni too, frees up yourmoveslots on Blissey so you don't have to actually run confide.

Don't know how much extra stuff you want to add, so feel free to leave this one out, but you could also bring up Scizor, which is handy for checking Haxorus, and providing offensive check to togekiss. you can mention how on semi stall you would probably prefer to run a CB set to pursuit trap things like Latias and offer a strong revenge killer, while a stall team would prefer a defensive defog set.

Hyper Voice and Fire Blast create a potent attacking combination that can lay the hurt on typical Mega Altaria answers like Mega Steelix and Doublade. mention Amoonguss too Toxic is used to cripple Pokemon that resist Mega Altaria's attacking combination, most notably Rotom-H, Moltres, and Volcanion. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy throughout the course of a game. I would mention how you can use it to cripple things like Hippowdon too, that tend to think they are safe to just like set rocks heal and maybe phase in some order if they expect you to be a normal Dragon Dance set.

I'd either put it here or mention it in OOs, but Draco Meteor is a really neat option on these special sets to just immediately nuke Nidoqueen / Rotom-Heat etc.

Set Details
========

The given HP and Defense EVs ensure that Mega Altaria can survive a Bullet Punch from Choice Band Scizor and melt it with Fire Blast if required. 96 Speed EVs are used to get the jump on Pokemon like Modest Primarina and Adamant Bewear, and the rest of the EVs maximise Mega Altaria's overall power. Natural Cure is chosen as the ability pre-Mega Evolution to help Mega Altaria shrug off status conditions from Pokemon it switches into like Quagsire and Rotom-H.

Usage Tips
========

This set is a good lure to common Pokemon like Amoonguss and Doublade, so try to catch them on the switch with Fire Blast. This set is still very bulky, so don't be afraid to use it to check Pokemon like Hydreigon and Latias if needs be; be sure to keep it healthy with Roost, though.

========

This set has no way of hurting Pokemon like Alolan Muk, probably make this a Nidoqueen mention? it's generally a much more relevant mon overall. Tentacruel and Nihilego, so strong Ground-types like Krookodile and Mamoswine are helpful for their ability to threaten them. Stealth Rock support is recommended to weaken the Fire-types that wall this set, since Mega Altaria's best way to threaten them is Toxic. Reliable setters include Rhyperior, Cobalion, and the aforementioned Krookodile. Other Steel-types like Doublade and Scizor make for excellent partners that can check Pokemon like Nihilego, Cobalion, and Togekiss. bring up how Scizor can also pursuit trap Nihilego for you, and how it can easily wear down shared checks like Tenta/Empo. Scizor can also bring Mega Altaria in safely on Pokemon like Amoonguss with U-turn. Might be worth commenting on scizor/krook trapping Latias too, you can struggle to check CM sets quite a lot with this set unless they are sufficiently chipped already, but you can easily trade malt to guarantee a trap after etc. Other wallbreakers like Nidoking, Infernape, and Crawdaunt pair well with Mega Altaria, idk that I particularly like the crawdaunt mention, i'd consider mentioning something like a Terrakion here instead, especially because of the useful synergy of Malt being able to weaken Doub and cripple Slowbro/Hippo. being able to blow up Pokemon it struggles with like Tentacruel, Nihilego, and Toxic Rotom-H. Pokemon that can take advantage of Mega Altaria's ability to lure in and remove Steel-types, such as Mimikyu, Terrakion, and Haxorus, also make for good partners.

I'd bring up Gligar in this section, this Malt set tends to have the ability to easily land a Toxic on things like Hippowdon and Rotom-Heat, which really benefits Gligar's MUs vs them to stop it just endlessly sitting on it and for instance getting its Fogs out PPd by Hippowdon, letting Gligar basically deny rocks from mons like Rhyp/Hippo that you land a Toxic on and completely cut off their momentum with things like Rotom-Heat. (Pak's post explains well why this is such a good partner for this set).

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A specially defensive set can be considered for its ability to better handle Pokemon like Hydreigon and Nasty Plot Infernape, but it's generally outclassed by the physically defensive set which can check these Pokemon anyway. You can mention how it makes dealing with stuff like Specs / CM Psyshock Latias harder too. I would also make this the last mention personally. A mixed attacking set with Return, or Body Slam Earthquake, Fire Blast, and Roost is useable, but it struggles a lot with Pokemon like Rotom-H and Moltres, and it can't break through Pokemon like Amoonguss without a lot of Special Attack investment. A Dragon Dance set with the three aforementioned attacks can be used to lure in and remove Steel-types like Scizor and Doublade that can take an Earthquake as well as pressuring Amoonguss, opening a door to sweep late-game. Giving up Roost is very difficult, though, and it removes a large part of Mega Altaria's niche as a bulky setup sweeper. :pikuh:

I'd mention something along the lines of Mega Altaria's EV spreads being fairly customisable on its Refresh set, and say that you can optionally add some extra bulk if necessary, eg. 84 Defence to live 2 Scarf EQs from Krook guaranteed.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Choice Band Scizor can threaten Mega Altaria with a powerful Bullet Punch, bringing its sweep to an end. Wouldn't limt this to just CB scizor, other sets threaten you too, yyou can just mention that CB is the most threatening, ofc SD sets can use some sets like Refresh as set up opportunitis which can be worse though. Other Steel-types like Doublade, Mega Aggron, and Mega Steelix can take hits from Mega Altaria and retaliate with their STAB moves, even after a boost. Metion how DOub/Lix fear Fire Blast, also bring up Bronzong in this section somewhere.

**Poison-types**: Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Amoonguss have the bulk necessary to tank a boosted Earthquake and retaliate with their STAB moves. While less reliable overall, Tentacruel and Nihilego can check certain Mega Altaria sets and KO it in return. Mention bat too, as something that resists your fairy/ground combo, and can threaten you with like Taunt+Toxic, Z-Hurricane, and stuff.

Maybe put a section on Moltres and Rotom-Heat here? Dno how you'd really clarify this, if you went for Pokemon that resist the Fairy + Fire/Ground combo or something mayb?

**Faster Pokemon**: Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Beedrill are capable of outspeeding a boosted Mega Altaria. Mega Aerodactyl can remove it with Ice Fang after some chip damage, while Mega Beedrill can OHKO it with Poison Jab. Certain Choice Scarf, users such as Infernape, Nihilego, can probably mention Togekiss too ig? can also threaten a boosted Mega Altaria.

**Unaware Pokemon**: Bring up Quagsire and Pyukumuku as problems for DD sets, talk about like Counter/Curse Quag and Counter Pyuku and stuf.

Access to other options like Fire Blast can make it easy for Mega Altaria to lure and weaken or KO Pokemon like Scizor and Mega Aggron, while Earthquake can break through Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Tentacruel, allowing Mega Altaria to choose its counters and act as one of the best stallbreakers in the tier. While yes it is a good stallbreaker, it is mainly options like Facade and Refresh that help it do so. Finally, the prevalence of Pokemon like Amoonguss and Quagsire can make it difficult for Mega Altaria to sweep, and even if it breaks past its defensive answers, it's easily revenge killed by Pokemon like Mimikyu, Mamoswine, and Scizor. Might want to add a line on its reliance on Mega Evolving to check a majority of the threats it wants to and thus can't switch into many of them safely without having done so.

Moves
========

Return and Earthquake combine to create a solid offensive combination that's nearly unresisted in UU, with only Pokemon like Rotom-H and Moltres being able to handle both, giving Mega Altaria a lot of immediate power and allowing it to sweep through balanced and offensive teams alike after a boost. Facade and Fire Blast notably give Mega Altaria a phenomenal matchup against stall teams if it's afflicted with status. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy over the course of a game so that it can continuously check Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed investment with an Adamant nature makes Mega Altaria as fast and strong as possible.

Usage Tips
========

While Mega Altaria's typing and bulk makes it pretty resilient, it shouldn't always be sent directly into foes like Hydreigon and Infernape, as they can hit it hard with coverage moves like Flash Cannon and Gunk Shot that can cripple it heavily. Altaria is also better at pivoting into Volcanion before Mega Evolution. You could give a mention to how Natural Cure can be taken advantage of to get inflicted with the ideal status. If they're not carrying Scald, it can often be worthwhile to allow Mega Altaria to be afflicted with poison so that it can break down their defensive cores with Facade, though it'll be worn down quicker itself.

Team Options
========

Empoleon also makes for a good teammate, being able to set up Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria and also checking nuisances like Tentacruel, Sylveon, Latias, and Klefki. Doublade and Amoonguss make for good partners that can check Scizor for Mega Altaria. They also appreciate Mega Altaria's ability to check Hydreigon, Latias, and Rotom-H.

Return is Mega Altaria's most consistent STAB move. Refresh and Roost keep Mega Altaria healthy and allow it to set up multiple boosts on Pokemon that rely on status to threaten it like Empoleon, Alomomola, and Gligar. Refesh also allows it to act as a reliable status absorber even after Mega Evolution.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Avoid setting up when Steel-types like Mega Steelix and Doublade are alive, as well as Poison-types like Amoonguss and Nidoqueen, as this set has no way of threatening them. You can actually 2HKO offensive Nidoqueen, so you only need it to be weakened slightly. Be sure to keep Mega Altaria healthy with Roost and Refresh as much as possible, as this set can often set up multiple times throughout a game. Mega Evolving as soon as possible is recommended so that Mega Altaria can check Pokemon like Hydreigon with ease.

Team Options

Removing Steel-types is of utmost importance when using this set as it cannot threaten them without accruing a lot of boosts, so teammates like Krookodile and Moltres are recommended. Krookodile can also Pursuit trap certain targets like Doublade and Gengar, while Moltres can remove Pokemon like Amoonguss and Nidoqueen Change this to something else and check Scizor. Nidoqueen can perform a similar role of weakening Steel-types while setting up Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria, which helps with weakening Pokemon like Moltres that Mega Altaria can struggle to break through quickly. Against stall teams, this set can find it easy to sweep if Pokemon like Quagsire and Scizor are removed. As such, lures to Quagsire like Calm Mind Cobalion and Grass Knot Infernape make for good partners. These Pokemon can also crush Steel-types for Mega Altaria, and Infernape can fry Amoonguss.

Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy throughout a came and allows it to continuously check foes like Crawdaunt and Infernape.

Nihilego can provide Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes support and can also check Togekiss, while Mega Altaria checks Ground-types like Hippowdon and Krookodile in return. Pyukumuku is also a helpful partner for its ability to more reliably handle Pokemon like Substitute Chandelure and Nasty Plot Infernape.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

This set is a good lure to common Pokemon like Amoonguss and Doublade, so try to catch them on the switch with Fire Blast. This set is still very bulky, so don't be afraid to use it to check Pokemon like Hydreigon and Latias I'd replace the Latias example with something else. While it is a check you still take a lot from Psychic especially if it's a Specs or LO set. if needs be; be sure to keep it healthy with Roost, though.

========

This set has no way of hurting Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Tentacruel and Nihilego, so strong Ground-types like Krookodile and Mamoswine are helpful for their ability to threaten them.

=============

Mega Altaria's EV spreads are fairly customisable, especially on the Refresh set. For example, 84 Defense EVs can be used to ensure that Mega Altaria survives 2 Earthquakes from Choice Scarf Krookodile.

Checks and Counters
===================

Certain Choice Scarf, users such as Infernape and Nihilego, can also threaten a boosted Mega Altaria.

**Unaware Users**: Quagsire and Pyukumuku both wall Dragon Dance Altaria endlessly. Curse Quagsire can also use it as setup fodder, while both Quagsire and Pyukumuku can knock Mega Altaria out with Counter.

Access to other options like Fire Blast can make it easy for Mega Altaria to lure and weaken or KO Pokemon like Scizor and Mega Aggron, while Earthquake can break through Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Tentacruel, allowing Mega Altaria to choose its counters. (also makes it harder to switch into) In addition, options like Facade and Refresh let it act as one of the best stallbreakers in the tier. It can also take advantage of its great bulk and access to Roost to act as one of the most sturdy defensive Pokemon in the tier, capable of taking hits from Pokemon like Krookodile, Infernape, and Terrakion (not rly the best terrak check) while KOing them in return thanks to its natural power. It can also run a defensive Dragon Dance set on stall teams, acting as a potent win condition while still retaining good utility through Heal Bell and its great bulk and typing. It's often forced to Mega Evolve early in order to check Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon, which can be difficult to do and also forces it to give up Natural Cure (and ground immunity). Finally, the prevalence of Pokemon like Amoonguss and Quagsire can make it difficult for Mega Altaria to sweep, and even if it breaks past its defensive answers, it's easily revenge killed by Pokemon (priority users) like Mimikyu, Mamoswine, and Scizor.

Moves

Return and Earthquake combine to create a solid offensive combination that's nearly unresisted in UU, with only Pokemon like Rotom-H and Moltres (it's just those i'm pretty sure) being able to handle both, giving Mega Altaria a lot of immediate power and allowing it to sweep through balanced and offensive teams alike after a boost. Facade and Fire Blast notably give Mega Altaria a phenomenal matchup against stall teams if it's afflicted with status. Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy over the course of a game so that it can continuously check Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed investment with an Adamant nature makes Mega Altaria as fast and strong as possible. (say what it can outspeed) An alternative EV spread of 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 Spe can be used; the added bulk makes it easier for Mega Altaria to pivot into Pokemon like Crawdaunt, and it can still outspeed Timid Primarina before a boost in addition to outspeeding Starmie after one. Natural Cure is chosen as Mega Altaria's ability to prevent it from being crippled by status moves like Toxic, which is especially useful if it's not running Facade. It also allows it to act as a status sponge before Mega Evolving.

Usage Tips
========

While Mega Altaria's typing and bulk makes it pretty resilient, it shouldn't always be sent directly into foes like Hydreigon and Infernape, as they can hit it hard with coverage moves like Flash Cannon and Gunk Shot that can cripple it heavily. Altaria is also better at pivoting into Volcanion before Mega Evolution. Natural Cure allows Mega Altaria to be played liberally, as it can absorb Toxic if required and continuously pivot until it is ideally inflicted with a burn. If they're not carrying Scald, it can often be worthwhile to allow Mega Altaria to be afflicted with poison so that it can break down their defensive cores with Facade, though it'll be worn down quicker itself.

Team Options
========

Empoleon also makes for a good teammate, being able to set up Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria and also checking nuisances like Tentacruel, Sylveon, Latias, and Klefki. Doublade and Amoonguss make for good partners that can check Scizor for Mega Altaria. They also appreciate Mega Altaria's ability to check Hydreigon, Latias, and Rotom-H.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

(say what adamant 252 does bc you said what all the others do)

Usage Tips
========

Avoid setting up when Steel-types like Mega Steelix and Doublade are alive, as well as Poison-types like Amoonguss and healthy Nidoqueen, as this set has no way of removing them. Be sure to keep Mega Altaria healthy with Roost and Refresh as much as possible, as this set can often set up multiple times throughout a game. Mega Evolving as soon as possible is recommended so that Mega Altaria can check Pokemon like Hydreigon with ease.

Team Options
========

Removing Steel-types is of utmost importance when using this set as it cannot threaten them without accruing a lot of boosts, so teammates like Krookodile and Moltres are recommended.

Moves
========

Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy throughout a came and allows it to continuously check foes like Crawdaunt and Infernape.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Dragon Dance variants are potent late-game wincons and shouldn't set up early game. Conserve Mega Altaria's HP and set it up safely when the foe's Steel- and Poison-types have been removed. Be conscious of Heal Bell's low PP, as using it too often can lead to Mega Altaria and its teammates being permanently debilitated by status conditions. Altaria should generally Mega Evolve as early as possible in order to gain the typing it needs to check foes like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon, but sometimes it's better not to if the foe has a Pokemon liked defensive Swampert or Groundium Z Krookodile that can attempt to cripple or muscle through Mega Altaria. (defensive pert isn't really beating alt ever even without the immunity)

However, if a foe has a Pokemon like Choice Scarf Krookodile, it can be beneficial to wait to Mega Evolve, (AC) as Altaria can set up freely on a Choice-locked Earthquake. Altaria is also better at pivoting into Volcanion before Mega Evolution. It's best not to set up with Dragon Dance immediately, since most teams will carry checks to Mega Altaria like Scizor, Mega Aggron, and Doublade. Instead, attacking early-game can weaken these Pokemon so that to let Mega Altaria can sweep late-game or to open holes for its teammates. Natural Cure allows Mega Altaria to be played liberally, as it can absorb Toxic from them (continuity) if required and continuously pivot until it is ideally inflicted with a burn. If they're (vague but prob okay with prior change) not carrying Scald, it can often be worthwhile to allow Mega Altaria to be afflicted with poison so that it can break down their defensive cores with Facade, though it'll be worn down quicker itself.

Team Options
========

Empoleon also makes for a good teammate, being able to set up Stealth Rock for Mega Altaria and also checking nuisances like Tentacruel, Sylveon, Latias, and Klefki.

Refesh Refresh also allows it to act as a reliable status absorber even after Mega Evolution.

Set Details
========

Finally, maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature can be used in order to guarantee a Speed tie at worst against opposing Altaria and to outspeed foes like Zeraora after a boost, but these spreads are not recommended, (AC) as Mega Manectric and Zeraora struggle to harm Mega Altaria significantly regardless.

Usage Tips
========

========

Removing Steel-types is of utmost importance when using this set, (AC) as it cannot threaten them without accruing a lot of boosts, so teammates like Krookodile and Moltres are recommended. As such a result, lures to Quagsire like Calm Mind Cobalion and Grass Knot Infernape make for good partners.

Roost keeps Mega Altaria healthy throughout a came and allows it to continuously check foes like Crawdaunt and Infernape.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

(AH) Conserve Mega Altaria's HP and set it up safely when the foe's Steel- and Poison-types have been removed.

========

Nihilego can provide Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes support and can also check Togekiss, while Mega Altaria checks Ground-types like Hippowdon and Krookodile in return. Quagsire acts as a solid answer to set up setup sweepers that Mega Altaria can't check on its own, like Doublade, Scizor, and opposing Mega Altaria, and it appreciates Mega Altaria's Heal Bell support a lot.

Set Details
========

The given HP and Defense EVs ensure that Mega Altaria can survive a Bullet Punch from Choice Band Scizor and melt it with Fire Blast if required. 96 Speed EVs are used to get the jump on Pokemon like Modest Primarina and Adamant Bewear, and the rest of the EVs maximise maximize Mega Altaria's overall power. Natural Cure is chosen as the ability pre-Mega Evolution to help Mega Altaria shrug off status conditions from Pokemon it switches into like Quagsire and Rotom-H.

Usage Tips
========

========

This set has no way of hurting Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Tentacruel and Nihilego, so strong Ground-types like Krookodile and Mamoswine are helpful for their ability to threaten them.

=============

A mixed attacking set with Return or Body Slam, Earthquake, Fire Blast, and Roost is useable, but it struggles a lot with Pokemon like Rotom-H and Moltres, and it can't break through Pokemon like Amoonguss without a lot of Special Attack investment. A specially defensive set can be considered for its ability to better handle Pokemon like Hydreigon and Nasty Plot Infernape, but it's generally outclassed by the physically defensive set, (AC) which can check these Pokemon anyway, and it still struggles to deal with Latias. Mega Altaria's EV spreads are fairly customisable customizable, especially on the Refresh set. For example, 84 Defense EVs can be used to ensure that Mega Altaria survives two Earthquakes from Choice Scarf Krookodile.

Checks and Counters
===================

Certain Choice Scarf users, (move comma) such as Infernape and Nihilego, can also threaten a boosted Mega Altaria.

**Unaware Users**: Quagsire and Pyukumuku both wall Dragon Dance Altaria endlessly. Curse Quagsire can also use it as setup fodder, while both Quagsire and Pyukumuku can knock Mega Altaria out with Counter.

It's often forced to Mega Evolve early in order to check Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Hydreigon, which can be difficult to do and also forces it to give up Natural Cure and its Ground immuntiy immunity. Finally, the prevalence of Pokemon like Amoonguss and Quagsire can make it difficult for Mega Altaria to sweep, and even if it breaks past its defensive answers, it's easily revenge killed by priority users like Mimikyu, Mamoswine, and Scizor.

Return and Earthquake combine to create a solid offensive combination that's nearly unresisted in UU, with only Crobat, Bronzong, Talonflame, Rotom-H, (AC) and Moltres being able to handle both, giving Mega Altaria a lot of immediate power and allowing it to sweep through balanced and offensive teams alike.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

This set has no way of hurting Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Tentacruel, (AC) and Nihilego, so strong Ground-types like Krookodile and Mamoswine are helpful for their ability to threaten them.

Other Options
=============

===================

Certain Choice Scarf, (RC) users, (AC) such as Infernape and Nihilego, can also threaten a boosted Mega Altaria.

**Unaware Users**: Quagsire and Pyukumuku both wall Dragon Dance Altaria endlessly. Curse Quagsire can also use it as setup fodder, while both Quagsire and Pyukumuku can knock Mega Altaria out with Counter.
