PU Mareanie (GP 1/1)

[OVERVIEW]
Mareanie acts as a defensive pivot for balance teams. It can check special attacking threats such as Charizard, Ribombee, and Jellicent while providing team support by setting and absorbing Toxic Spikes. Mareanie's wide utility movepool can also make it annoying to switch into, though its general passivity makes it vulnerable to setup sweepers and strong attackers such as Scrafty and Sandslash. Mareanie also has to compete for a spot with Weezing, the premier Poison-type of the tier, which can make it difficult to justify its place on a team.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive Wall
move 1: Recover
move 2: Scald
move 3: Toxic Spikes
move 4: Knock Off / Poison Jab / Haze / Infestation
item: Eviolite
ability: Regenerator
nature: Calm / Sassy
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Knock Off is the preferred last move, as it makes Mareanie slightly less passive, but the other options allow for Mareanie to answer to specific threats. Poison Jab can be run to beat Quiver Dance Ribombee while also being able to fish for poison on Pokemon immune to Scald such as Jellicent. Haze allows Mareanie to beat Doublade one-on-one, provided there are no critical hits. Infestation can be used to trap and remove defensive Pokemon such as Weezing and Eldegoss, allowing teammates such as Swords Dance Sandslash to sweep easier. A Calm nature is usually preferred, as this preserves Mareanie's Speed tier, allowing it to outspeed Doublade. However, a Sassy nature is better when running Poison Jab, as this allows Mareanie to do over 50% damage to Ribombee, meaning it can't Quiver Dance on it. Mareanie pairs particularly well with Gigalith + Sandslash cores, as Mareanie can absorb Toxic Spikes for them while dealing with the tier's Water-types such as Jellicent and Wishiwashi. Mareanie's passivity means it can be a detriment into setup sweepers that immediately threaten it, such as Sandslash and Scrafty. Grass-types that can handle these such as Eldegoss and Tangela are good partners.

Knock Off is the preferred last move as it makes Mareanie slightly less passive I would write something here like "but the other options let mareanie do specific things depending on your team" I think knock is the overall best option unless you need something very specific out of mareanie, then you go to the others. Poison Jab can be run to beat Quiver Dance Ribombee, while also being able to fish for poisons not plural on Pokemon immune to scald capitalize, such as > like (also where it's used in the future) like Jellicent. Haze allows you to 1v1 Doublade beat Doublade one-on-one, provided you don't get crit there are no critical hits. Infestation can be used to trap and remove defensive pokemon like Weezing and Eldegoss, allowing teammates like Swords Dance Sandslash to sweep easier.
