BDSP Mamoswine

[OVERVIEW]

Mamoswine is a great wallbreaker in BDSP OU due to its excellent STAB combination and an insane Attack stat that makes it nearly unwallable. It makes great use of Life Orb, as its huge Attack stat and unique Ice-type priority move in Ice Shard allow it to finish off Dragon-types and can also be useful for chipping down neutral targets into KO range for other attacks. It can also make use of Substitute to ease prediction, with the drawback of less damage output. Unfortunately, while Mamoswine's typing is advantageous offensively, it's lacking defensively with no defensive utility outside of Thick Fat and an Electric immunity. Mamoswine is unable to capitalize off of this, as it can't consistently come in on Volt Switch from common Electric-types such as Rotom-W, while fellow Ground-type wallbreaker Garchomp can. Mamoswine's STAB moves, while good, can easily be played around. Combined with a mediocre Speed stat, this makes Mamoswine very prediction-reliant without Substitute compared to other, more reliable wallbreakers such as Crawdaunt, Azumarill, Infernape, Garchomp, and Breloom. Mamoswine's weaknesses also leave it vulnerable to common priority such as Aqua Jet, Mach Punch, and Bullet Punch from Crawdaunt, Azumarill, Infernape, and Scizor. Mamoswine also has great competition in the form of Garchomp, as the latter is often used over Mamoswine because of its higher consistency and better defenses. However, although Mamoswine possesses a great deal of weaknesses, its strength more than makes up for the effort needed, as Mamoswine's STAB combination makes switching into it effectively very tough, as most switch-ins get 2HKOed.

[SET COMMENTS]

Earthquake and Icicle Crash are very strong STAB moves that can take care of many slower Pokemon such as Togekiss, Heatran, and Magnezone. Ice Shard is useful for revenge killing Dragon-type threats such as Latias, Garchomp, and Dragonite while also being useful to revenge kill other Ice-weak targets such as Breloom, Gliscor, and Shaymin. Freeze-Dry is useful to deal major damage to Rotom-W on the switch in, usually making it unable to check Mamoswine again alongside Stealth Rock chip, and it is also useful for dealing with Quagsire. Stealth Rock provides good role compression, as Mamoswine can beat common Defoggers such as Gliscor and Latias. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it boosts Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential by a decent amount, although it has the drawback of recoil. Never-Melt Ice is a strong alternative, as it retains the power boost for Ice-type moves but doesn't have the drawback of recoil. Jolly is the preferred nature, as it outspeeds Jolly Feraligatr and Breloom, but an Adamant nature can be used, as Mamoswine still outspeeds threats such as Modest Heatran and bulky Gliscor while boosting priority damage. A Naive nature can be used to strengthen Freeze-Dry without much compromise.

Mamoswine fits best on offensive teams, as it is able to guarantee damage on Scizor and Clefable, which can be capitalized on by Pokemon such as Feraligatr, Breloom, and Latias. Mamoswine appreciates pivots that help it get onto the battlefield such as Scizor and Rotom-W. Mamoswine capitalizes on entry hazards; as such, Stealth Rock from Garchomp or Heatran and Spikes from Roserade or Skarmory help it break more easily. Mamoswine appreciates Latias healing it back to full health with Healing Wish, as Life Orb recoil is a big weakness that Mamoswine has to deal with. Grass-types such as Rotom-C and Shaymin can cover for Mamoswine's Water weakness relatively well. Sweepers such as Feraligatr, Azumarill, Lucario, and offensive Scizor also appreciate Freeze-Dry Mamoswine, as it is able to lure in and KO Rotom-W and Slowbro, which are often their greatest counters. Rapid Spin support from Starmie can also help reduce the amount of residual damage Mamoswine takes, and in return, Starmie can force out Skarmory while removing the Spikes it sets up.

move 4: Substitute
item: Leftovers / Never-Melt-Ice
ability: Thick Fat
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Mamoswine being extremely prediction-reliant is ultimately one of its biggest downfalls; however, Mamoswine can circumvent this issue by using Substitute to provide a layer of defense to fall back on, as well as an immunity to status conditions. Ice Shard is useful if a foe survives a hit, as this set lacks power. Icicle Crash and Earthquake are a beautiful offensive pairing, as the majority of the metagame will be 2HKOed. Leftovers is usually the item of choice, as it will help Mamoswine heal off Substitute's recoil, but Never-Melt Ice is also useful if it needs the extra firepower. Adamant is Mamoswine's preferred nature, as it allows it to gain a bit power back from not having Life Orb. However, a Jolly nature is also an option to outspeed Jolly Feraligatr and Breloom.

Substitute Mamoswine is best paired with Pokemon that can eliminate its most common counter, Rotom-W. Pokemon such as Breloom, Latias, Tangrowth, and Shaymin can do the job. Additionally, Pokemon that can get rid of entry hazards such as Latias, Gliscor, Scizor, and Starmie make Mamoswine's job a lot easier. Late-game cleaners such as Life Orb Scizor, Choice Band Dragonite, Swords Dance Lucario, and Feraligatr also benefit immensely from Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential. Mamoswine also appreciates Latias healing it back to full HP with Healing Wish.

Mamoswine is capable of becoming a Stealth Rock lead that can counter some of the lead metagame with Focus Sash and Oblivious; however, it's usually better to run the wallbreaker set, as it offers more power and can still be used as a Stealth Rock setter. Mamoswine can use Choice Band, as it's very powerful. However, it's often dismissed in favour of Life Orb, as they have similar damage output. Mamoswine can also use Choice Scarf to get rid of its speed issue; however, not getting to switch up Mamoswine's moves isn't ideal, and not getting a big damage boost makes it inferior to Choice Band, which is already unviable. Mamoswine can switch Freeze-Dry for Icicle Spear to OHKO Dragonite, even with Multiscale intact, as well as SubPunch Breloom; however, its inconsistency makes it less useful than Icicle Crash.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rotom-W**: Rotom-W is one of the only counters to Mamoswine. It doesn't get affected by Earthquake and Icicle Crash bounces right off it, while it can OHKO Mamoswine back with Hydro Pump and even burn Mamoswine with Will-O-Wisp if it needs to. However, Rotom-W must be wary of switching in on Freeze-Dry, as with Stealth Rock chip, it can 2HKO Rotom-W, making it unable to switch in again.

**Skarmory**: Skarmory is one of the only walls to Mamoswine, as it doesn't take too much damage from Icicle Crash while having reliable recovery in Roost. However, although Icicle Crash doesn't do enough damage to 2HKO Skarmory outright, a deadly flinch chance means that Mamoswine might be able to break through with enough flinches and luck.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Gastrodon, and Milotic all tank non-Choice Band Mamoswine's hits and can either possibly OHKO or burn Mamoswine. Gastrodon needs to be wary of Freeze-Dry, as it's a 4x super effective move. Slowbro and Milotic can both shrug off Freeze-Dry, however.

**Faster Pokemon and Priority**: While faster Pokemon like Starmie, Lucario, Alakazam, and Infernape can't switch into Mamoswine's attacks, all of them outspeed Mamoswine and are able to OHKO it. Priority users such as Crawdaunt and Scizor can also 2HKO Mamoswine, with the former being able to OHKO it after Stealth Rock chip.

**Residual Damage**: As Mamoswine usually runs Life Orb, it will get worn down with entry hazards damage, as Mamoswine will typically switch out a lot of times. Substitute Mamoswine doesn't have this issue, however, as it has Leftovers to heal itself back up.

[OVERVIEW]
Mamoswine is one of the best wallbreakers in the tier due to its excellent STAB combination and an insane attack stat that makes Mamoswine nearly unwallable. Its Ice-type priority in Ice Shard comes in handy allows it to finish off chipped Dragon-types and can also be useful for chipping down Dragon-types to range. Unfortunately, while Mamoswine's typing is advantageous offensively, its a curse defensively with no relevant resistances and weaknesses to types that have strong presence in the meta, the only defensive utility it has is its Electric-type immunity which isnt even that useful as every electric type has a way to kill Mamoswine on the spot
lacks defensive utility outside of Thick Fat and an Electric-immunity, and even then it is unable to consistently come in on Electric-types like Rotom-W.
Mamoswine's lackluster defenses and weaknesses makes it almost helpless against some of the priority that's so common in this meta, such as Aqua Jet and Bullet Punch leaves it vulnerable to priority like Aqua Jet and Bullet Punch from Crawdaunt, Azumarill, and Scizor respectively. Furthermore, Mamoswine's mediocre speed stat is limiting as faster Pokemon such as Infernape, Rotom-W, Starmie, and Alakazam can all outspeed and OHKO Mamoswine.

[SET COMMENTS]

Earthquake and Icicle Crash are Mamoswine's best attacking moves and Mamoswine's most reliable moves. Ice Shard is useful for chipping Dragon-type threats like Latios, and Latias and can OHKO 4x quadruple weak targets such as Garchomp, and Salamence. Freeze-Dry is useful to do a bunch of deal major damage against to Rotom-W on the switch-in, usually making Rotom-W unable to check it again with Stealth Rock chip. Stealth Rock is good role compression if you need a Stealth Rocker and you have Pokemon that take care of Rotom-W. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it boosts Mamoswine's wallbreaking powers potential to a new level, although with the drawbacks of recoil. Never-Melt-Ice is a strong candidate as it retains the power boost for Ice-type moves, but doesn't have the drawbacks of recoil.

Mamoswine fits best on offensive teams that provide Mamoswine with pivots that help Mamoswine come to the field. Mamoswine appreciates Pokemon that can counter its biggest nemeses most common checks, Rotom-W, Skarmory, and Bulky Waters. Pokemon such as Rotom-W, Rotom-M, and Shaymin can fullfil those roles effectively. Late-game sweepers such as Choice Band Dragonite, Feraligatr, and Life Orb Scizor all appreciate Mamoswine's wallbreaking.

this could probably do with some expanding. probs mention speed control options and hazard removal.

move 3: Ice Shard
move 4: Stone Edge
item: Choice Band

[SET COMMENTS]

Mamoswine's power with Choice Band is almost unmatched, with a powerful STAB priority in Ice Shard, Mamoswine becomes a Dragon-type Assassin. Ice Shard is a powerful priority that can cleave through Dragon-types,. With Stealth Rock Mamoswine can OHKO Latios, Dragonite, Garchomp, and Salamence with relative ease. Earthquake and Icicle Crash are good options to wallbreak the slower half of the metagame, usually leading to a 2HKO. Stone Edge is useful to 2HKO Rotom-W, although prediction reliant.

Mamoswine is best paired with pivots that help it get to the battle such as Gliscor, Scizor, and Rotom-W. While Mamoswine is itself a wallbreaker, it is easily thwarted by prediction, thus getting the help of another wallbreaker such as Azumarill, Breloom, and Infernape is appreciated. Some cleaners such as Crawdaunt, and Choice Scarf Rotom-W appreciate Mamoswine's specialty as a Dragon-type assassin.

you definitely need to add hazard removal here

[SET COMMENTS]

Substitute eases prediction by having an extra defensive layer to fall back on and providing protection against status. Adamant is usually the preferred nature as it allows Mamoswine to gain back not having Life Orb, but Jolly is useful for outspeeding Jolly Feraligatr and Breloom. Leftovers is preferred as it allows Mamoswine to gain back the health lost from Substitute but, Never-Melt-Ice is a good alternative if you need that extra firepower.

Substitute Mamoswine is best paired with Pokemon that can eliminate or chip its old nemesis, Rotom-W, such as Breloom, Infernape, and Shaymin. Late game cleaners also benefit immensely from Mamoswine's wallbreaking such as Life Orb Scizor, Choice Band Dragonite, and Feraligatr

Mamoswine can switch Freeze-Dry for Icicle Spear to OHKO Dragonite even with Multiscale and SubPunch Breloom, however its too niche to be consistent inconsistency makes it generally less useful than other Ice-type STAB options. Although it can be used with Choice Scarf.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rotom-W**: Rotom-W is one of the only counters to Mamoswine. Rotom-W doesn't get affected by Earthquake and Icicle Crash bounces right off it, even if Mamoswine has Freeze-Dry, it and can still OHKO it back with Hydro Pump. mention how rotom-w can burn it, and then go on about how freeze dry variants give it somewhat more trouble.

**Skarmory**: Skarmory is a great Mamoswine wall check, as Icicle Crash only does 25 deals little damage, and it has recovery in Roost. However, Skarmory must be careful of Icicle Crash flinches as 3 flinches in a row will ruin its day consecutive flinches can often spell doom for Skarmory.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Slowbro and Milotic all tank non-Banded hits and possibly OHKO or burn Mamoswine. However they all both need to be wary of Freeze-Dry

**Faster Pokemon and Priority**: While faster Pokemon like Starmie, Lucario, Alakazam, and Infernape can't switch in, all of them outspeed and OHKO Mamoswine. Priority users such as Crawdaunt and Scizor can 2HKO with Stealth Rock chip and Scizor can 2HKO, with the former having a chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock.

**Residual Damage**: Mamoswine tends to switch out alot a lot, this is especially true for the Choice Band set which needs to switch out after almost every move unless its cleaning,. This means that Mamoswine will gain alot a lot of chip damage from either Stealth Rock, Life Orb, or Substitute without Leftovers.

Overview

Unfortunately, while Mamoswine's typing is advantageous offensively, its lacking defensively with no defensive utility outside of Thick Fat and an Electric-Immunity, which its unable to capitalize from as it cant consistently come in on Electric-types such as Rotom-W.
I'd add some emphasis to the Rotom-W point. Rotom-W is up and away the most common Electric-type in the tier, so its inability to Volt block leaves it in a tough spot as a Ground-type compared to Garchomp and Gastrodon.

Although Mamoswine possesses a great deal of weaknesses, its strength more than makes up for the effort needed as Mamoswine can demolish a ton of walls in this tier without a second thought.
By "strength", I want you to expand on this saying that it is very difficult for teams to effectively switch into Mamoswine due to its STAB combination and ability to 2HKO Clefable.

Life Orb

Make Stealth Rock slashed before Freeze-Dry, oftentimes offensive teams without skarm struggle to fit it. I'd nix the mention of Adamant, it is not worth getting outsped by Gliscor. Also change the name to "Life Orb Attacker".

Mamoswine fits best on offensive teams that gives it many chances to wallbreak throughout a game with the use of Hazard Removal such as Latias, Starmie, and Gliscor, and pivots such as Rotom-W, Gliscor, and Scizor. Mamoswine appreciates Pokemon that can counter Rotom-W, bulky Water-types and Skarmory, Pokemon such as Rotom-W, Rotom-C and Shaymin can fullfil those roles effectively. Late-game sweepers such as Choice Band Dragonite, Feraligatr, and Life Orb Scizor all appreciate Mamoswine's wallbreaking. Mamoswine also appreciates Latias healing it back to full as Life Orb recoil is a big weakness that Mamoswine has to deal with.
This is sort of a mess of a paragraph. I'd first mention that it fits on offensive teams because of its ability to guarantee damage on Scizor and Clefable. After that, I would mention some Pokemon that appreciate this; Breloom and Feraligatr are good mentions here. Then move into talking about pivots; Scizor and Rotom-W pair particularly well with it. Mamoswine capitalizes a ton on entry hazards, so making mention of Spikes Roserade and Stealth Rock from Mew or Garchomp is good. Rockers also free Mamoswine to run Freeze-Dry. I like the mention of Latias for Hwish, it deserves its own sentence. I'd then move into mentioning Shaymin and Rotom-C that can cover for its Water-weakness. Starmie for spin support is also a valid mention

Choice Band

Mamoswine's power with Choice Band is almost unmatched, with a powerful STAB priority in Ice Shard, Mamoswine becomes capable of revenge killing most Ice weak targets as Adamant Ice Shard, with Stealth Rock chip, can OHKO Latios, Dragonite, Garchomp, Breloom, Nidoking, and Salamence with relative ease.
Yo this sentence is way too long. Split it into two sentences: one about it being super powerful due to its STAB combination and Attack, the next about Ice Shard.

Choice Band Mamoswine is best paired with more wallbreakers to aid it such as Azumarill, Crawdaunt, Breloom, and Infernape as Mamoswine is easily thwarted by prediction. Mamoswine needs Stealth Rock to cleanly OHKO the Pokemon its tasked to revenge kill, Stealth Rockers such as Skarmory, Garchomp, and Gliscor are all reliable Stealth Rockers. Rapid Spin support from Starmie also helps Mamoswine gain less chip damage, although not quite as important as the Life Orb set. Some cleaners such as Crawdaunt, Belly Drum Azumarill, Infernape appreciate Mamoswine's abillity to revenge kill Dragon-types easily.
You gotta mention Choice Scarf Rotom-W here, it does a ton for it with pivot support, getting it in on Tangrowth, Blissey, and Latias, which it importantly chips with Volt Switch. I would not mention that Spinning is less important for band mamo; it is less important for the mon individually, but the teamstyle this set is on needs Starmie spin, especially since you cannot run Donphan with Mamoswine. I would mention Feraligatr over BD Azu in the last sentence since you already mention azu in the first sentence.

Substitute

Substitute Mamoswine is best paired with Pokemon that can eliminate its most common counter, Rotom-W. Pokemon such as Breloom, Latias, Rotom-W, and Shaymin can do the job. Mamoswine appreciates Latias healing it back to full with Healing Wish as getting a predict to set up Substitute wrong will deal heavy damage.
I would not mention Rotom-W as a Rotom-W check. Replace it with Tangrowth. When you talk about entry hazard removers, you have to mention Scizor. Scizor also deals with Latias, which this set struggles initially due to its lack of a boosting item.

before it gets 2/2 from someone else, I noticed a few more things I'd like you to change

Life Orb

Earthquake and Icicle Crash are very strong STAB moves that can take care of many slower Pokemon such as Togekiss, Heatran, Magnezone, and Tangrowth
I would remove Tangrowth from this list. It actually lives Icicle Crash comfortably and can safely Giga Drain.

252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 244-291 (60.3 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Freeze-Dry is useful to deal major damage against Rotom-W on the switch-in, usually making Rotom-W unable to check it again with Stealth Rock chip.
It's also helpful for dealing with Quagsire, an important note on offense teams that run into a wall against stall.

Stealth Rock is good role compression if you need a Stealth Rocker as Mamoswine can beat common Defoggers such as Gliscor, and Latias. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it boosts Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential by a decent amount, although with the drawbacks of recoil.
Remove the mention of "Stealth Rocker" since that's not a term. Just say it provides good role compression.

Jolly is the preffered nature as it outspeeds Jolly Feraligatr, and Breloom, but Naive could be used to strengthen Freeze-Dry.
Instead of saying Naive "can" be used, say it "should" be used with Freeze-Dry.

Mamoswine capitalizes on entry hazards, as such, Stealth Rocks from Garchomp and Spikes from Roserade or Skarmory help it break easier.
It is Stealth Rock not Stealth Rocks and add Heatran to the list of rockers it pairs well with.

Rapid Spin support from Starmie can also help reduce the amount of residual damage Mamoswine takes.
I think the big thing to note here is that Mamoswine is super weak to Spikes, which Skarmory can fairly free set on it. Starmie is important for forcing Skarm out and removing those Spikes.

Choice Band

Mamoswine's power with Choice Band is almost unmatched, with a powerful STAB combination and an attack stat worthy of a mammoth, Mamoswine can 2HKO almost every wall in existance.
This is an analysis, not a spotlight, so take out the mammoth part. Unfortunately, analyses nowadays have to be fairly serious.

Unfortunately, this set is highly prediction reliant as Choice Band not allowing it to switch moves makes it easier for opponents to play around Mamoswine.
This is just par for the course for any choice attacker. Delete this sentence.

Substitute

Mamoswine appreciates Latias healing it back to full with Healing Wish as getting a predict to set up Substitute wrong will deal heavy damage.
This doesn't make sense. I wouldn't characterize Sub recoil as "heavy damage". Just get rid of that part.

Really like your analysis for Mamoswine. Few things we could include and this is def ready to go!

Overview >

When u are talkin about the negatives of Mamoswine i would like alittle bit more the comparison to Garchomp, how and why it usually gets its spot as a ground type for a team robbed by Chomp but what the advantages in the form of priority Ice Shard which is key vs the previously mentioned SD Chomp, Latias and many more things is super useful and the even better offensive typing with strong, flinching and reliable stabs this poke has.

I would like Choice Band to not be mentioned, It is not v viable in high elos and tournament scene as its really outclassed by Life Orb and Nevermeltice. Its similar to it with more power but at the big cost of switchin your moves and using that Key priority when needed giving setup opportunities that u normally wouldnt aswell as making the predicting factor too big to be reliable. Plus as u mentioned its typing and everything doesnt allow it to be used v much defensively so losing some HP for reliable hits is definitely worth it with this mon.

Set 1 >

Include Adamant nature, its still a v viable one outspeedin modest heatran, defensive rotoms, standard gliscors and boosts your priority dmg vs queen latias.

Mention how Freeze Dry Mamoswine Plus a Water type setup pokemon is usually how you run this set. Its purpose is to lure and weaken / get rid of Rotom-W for a partner that can get the sweep done if Rotom takes such big hit. Same thing for Slowbro that would otherwise would be wallin this then u get things like Feraligatr, Adamant Lucario, 3 atks SD SCizor to do alot more work.

Set 2 > Remove it for the reasons above, although its cool how strong it is u get similar and better results with LO. Its not used and it makes sense why.

Other Options > In other options when u talk about Focus Sash lead mention that Oblivious is also a v good option for it so u can prevent taunt users and leads from annoying you. Things like Azelf and Infernape.

Overall great analysis friend, im giving you the second QC already but please include the things above. Thank you!

Mamoswine is a great wallbreaker in BDSP OU this tier due to its excellent STAB combination and an insane Attack stat that makes Mamoswine nearly unwallable. It makes great use of a Choice Band, (AC; also, CB is never mentioned outside of OO - was this supposed to be Life Orb?) as its huge attack Attack stat and unque unique Ice-type priority move in Ice Shard allows allow it to finish off Dragon-types and can also be useful for chipping down neutral targets to into KO range for other attacks. It can also make use of Substitute to ease prediction, (AC) with the drawback of less damage output. Unfortunately, while Mamoswine's typing is advantageous offensively, its it's lacking defensively with no defensive utility outside of Thick Fat and an Electric immunity-Immunity, which it is unable to capitalize off of, its unable to capitalize from as it cant can't consistently come in on Volt Switches Volt Switch from common Electric-types such as Rotom-W, while fellow Ground-type wallbreaker Garchomp, (RC) can. Mamoswine's STAB moves, while good, can easily be played around. Combined with a mediocre speed Speed stat, this makes Mamoswine a very prediction-reliant (AH) wallbreaker without Substitute compared to other, more reliable wallbreakers such as Crawdaunt, Azumarill, Infernape, Garchomp, and Breloom. Mamoswine's weaknesses also leaves leave it vulnerable to common priority such as Aqua Jet, Mach Punch, (AC) and Bullet Punch from Crawdaunt, Azumarill, Infernape, and Scizor respectively. Mamoswine also has great competition with in the form of Garchomp, (AC) as the latter is often used over Mamoswine because of its higher more consistency, (RC) and better defenses. However, although Although Mamoswine possesses a great deal of weaknesses, its strength more than makes up for the effort needed, (AC) as Mamoswine's STAB combination makes effectively switching into Mamoswine it effectively very tough, due to the fact that as (breaking up some monotony with "as" here.) most switch-ins get 2HKOed 2HKO'd. Earthquake and Icicle Crash are very strong STAB moves that can take care of many slower Pokemon such as Togekiss, Heatran, and Magnezone. Ice Shard is useful for revenge killing Dragon-type threats such as Latias, Garchomp, and Dragonite while also being useful to revenge kill other Ice-weak (AH) targets such as Breloom, Gliscor, and Shaymin. Freeze-Dry is useful to deal major damage against to Rotom-W on the switch in switch-in, usually making it Rotom-W unable to check it Mamoswine again with alongside Stealth Rock chip, (RC) and is also useful for dealing with Quagsire. Stealth Rock provides good role compression, (AC) as Mamoswine can beat common Defoggers such as Gliscor, (RC) and Latias. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it boosts Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential by a decent amount, although with the drawbacks of recoil. Never-Melt-Ice (RH) is a strong candidate, (AC) as it retains the power boost for Ice-type moves, (RC) but doesn't have the drawbacks of recoil. Jolly is the preffered preferred nature, (AC) as it outspeeds Jolly (they're the same nature, so "Jolly" isn't needed) Feraligatr, (RC) and Breloom, but an Adamant nature can could be used as it Mamoswine still outspeeds threats such as Modest Heatran, (RC) and Bulky bulky Gliscor, while boosting priority damage. , (RC, AP) and A Naive nature can should be used to strengthen Freeze-Dry without much compromise.

Mamoswine fits best on offensive teams, (RC) as its it is able to guarantee damage on Scizor and Clefable, which can be capitalized on by Pokemon such as Feraligatr, Breloom, and Latias. Mamoswine appreciates pivots that help it get into onto the battlefield such as Scizor, (RC) and Rotom-W. Mamoswine capitalizes on entry hazards; , (RC, AS) as such, Stealth Rock from Garchomp or Heatran, (RC) and Spikes from Roserade or Skarmory help it break through threats easier. Mamoswine appreciates Latias healing it back to full health with Healing Wish, as Life Orb recoil is a big weakness that Mamoswine has to deal with. Grass-types such as Rotom-C and Shaymin can cover for Mamoswine's Water weakness relatively well.
Sweepers such as Feraligatr, Azumarill, Lucario, and Offensive offensive Scizor also appreciates Freeze-Dry Mamoswine, (AC) as its it is able to lure in and kill KO Rotom-W, (RC) and Slowbro, which are often their greatest counters. Rapid Spin support from Starmie Starmie's Rapid Spin support can also help reduce the amount of residual (defining residual damage as hazard damage wouldn't hurt) damage Mamoswine takes, and while Starmie can additionally force out Skarmory while removing the Spikes spikes it sets up, as Mamoswine is very weak to spikes.

Mamoswine being extremely prediction-reliant (AH) is ultimately one of its biggest downfalls; , (RC, AS) however, Mamoswine can circumvent this issue by using Substitute to provide a layer of defense to fall back on, as well as an immunity to status conditions. Ice Shard is useful if a foe survives an opponent survived a hit, (AC) as this set lacks power. Icicle Crash and Earthquake are, (AC) once again, a beautiful offensive pairing, (AC) as the majority of the metagame will be 2HKOed, even without Life Orb. Leftovers is usually the item of choice, (AC) as it will help heal off Substitute's recoil the recoil of using Substitute, but Never-Melt-Ice (RH) is also useful if you need the extra firepower. Adamant is Mamoswine's preferred nature, the prefered nature for Mamoswine as it allows it to gain a bit (of what?) back from not having Life Orb while not losing much (much what?) due to Substitute. , (RC, AP) however However, a Jolly nature is also an option to outspeed Jolly Feraligatr and Breloom without a outside of Substitute up.

Substitute Mamoswine is best paired with Pokemon that can eliminate its most common counter, Rotom-W. Pokemon such as Breloom, Latias, Tangrowth, and Shaymin can do the job. Additionally, Pokemon that can get rid of hazards such as Latias, Gliscor, Scizor, and Starmie make Mamoswine's job a lot easier. Late game cleaners such as Life Orb Scizor, Choice Band Dragonite, Swords Dance Lucario, and Feraligatr also benefit immensely from Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential such as Life Orb Scizor, Choice Band Dragonite, Swords Dance Lucario and Feraligatr. Mamoswine also appreciates Latias healing it back to full HP with Healing Wish.

Mamoswine is capable of becoming a lead Stealth Rocker Stealth Rock lead that can counter some of the lead metagame with Focus Sash and Oblivious; , (RC, AS) however, (AC) it's usually better to run the Wallbreaker wallbreaker set as it offers more power and can still be used as a Stealth Rocker Stealth Rock setter. Mamoswine can use Choice Band, (AC) as it's very powerful. (AP) however However, it's often dismissed in favour of Life Orb as they have similar damage outputs. Mamoswine can also use Choice Scarf to get rid of its speed issue; , (AS, RC) however, (AC) not getting to switch up Mamoswine's moves isnt isn't ideal and not getting a big damage boost makes it inferior to Choice Band, which is already unviable. Mamoswine can switch Freeze-Dry for Icicle Spear to OHKO Dragonite, (AC) even with Multiscale intact, as well as and SubPunch Breloom; , (AS, RC) however, (AC) its inconsistency makes it less useful than Icicle Crash.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rotom-W**: Rotom-W is one of the only counters to Mamoswine. Rotom-W It doesn't get affected by Earthquake (perhaps adding "thanks to Levitate" would be good) and Icicle Crash bounces right off it, while it can OHKO it Mamoswine back with Hydro Pump, (RC) and it can even burn Mamoswine with Will-O-Wisp if it needs to. However, (AC) Rotom-W must be wary of switching in on Freeze-Dry, (AC) as with Stealth Rock chip it can 2HKO Rotom-W, making it unable to switch in again basically neutering it as Rotom-W cannot switch in again.

**Skarmory**: Skarmory is one of the only walls to Mamoswine, (AC) as it doesnt get too damaged doesn't take too much damage from Icicle Crash, (RC) while having a reliable recovery in Roost. Although However, although Icicle Crash doesnt doesn't do enough damage to 2HKO Skarmory outright, a deadly flinch chance means that Mamoswine might be able to break through with enough flinches and luck.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Gastrodon, and Milotic all tank non-banded non-Choice Band Mamoswine's hits and can either possibly OHKO or burn Mamoswine. However Gastrodon needs to be wary of Freeze-Dry, as it's a quadruple 4x super-effective move. , (RC, AP) the rest Slowbro and Milotic can both shrug off Freeze-Dry, however.

**Faster Pokemon and Priority**: While faster Pokemon like Starmie, Lucario, Alakazam, and Infernape can't switch into Mamoswine's attacks, all of them outspeed Mamoswine and are able to OHKO it Mamoswine. Priority users such as Crawdaunt and Scizor can also 2HKO Mamoswine, with the former being able to OHKO it after Stealth Rock chip.

**Residual Damage**: As Mamoswine ususally usually runs Life Orb, it will typically get worn down out with Stealth Rock and Spikes (perhaps make this entry hazards) damage, as Mamoswine will typically switch out a lot of times. Substitute Mamoswine doesnt doesn't have this issue, (AC) however, as it has Leftovers to heal itself back up.

[OVERVIEW]

Mamoswine is a great wallbreaker in BDSP OU this tier due to its excellent STAB combination and an insane Attack stat that makes Mamoswine it nearly unwallable. Unfortunately, while Mamoswine's typing is advantageous offensively, its it's lacking defensively with no defensive utility outside of Thick Fat and an Electric immunity. (period)-Immunity, which Mamoswine is unable to capitalize off of this, its unable to capitalize from as it cant can't consistently come in on Volt Switches Volt Switch from common Electric-types such as Rotom-W, while fellow Ground-type wallbreaker Garchomp, (RC) can. Mamoswine's STAB moves, while good, can easily be played around. Combined with a mediocre speed Speed stat ("combined with mediocre Speed" is also fine), this makes Mamoswine a very prediction-reliant (AH) wallbreaker (to remove repetition of wallbreaker later on) without Substitute compared to other, more reliable wallbreakers such as Crawdaunt, Azumarill, Infernape, Garchomp, and Breloom. However, although Although Mamoswine possesses a great deal of weaknesses, its strength more than makes up for the effort needed, (AC) as Mamoswine's STAB combination makes effectively switching into Mamoswine it effectively very tough, (AC) as most switch-ins get 2HKOed 2HKO'd.
