Lumineon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- U-turn
- Defog
- Toxic
Lumineon has seen a recent rise in viability even with Pelipper in the tier as one of the most common and reliable defoggers, bulky pivots, and water checks. Like normal post sets that lure Lumineon and have fun!

Sub Bulk Up Floatzel

Floatzel @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Bulk Up
- Waterfall
- Crunch

Lumineon is the premier Floatzel/water check in the tier, switching in on any water type attack. What better way to take advantage of Lumi than use Floatzel to set up on it? Floatzel can take advantage of Lumi by setting up a Substitute in its face as it either tries to U-turn out or Toxic it. Then it proceeds to set up a Bulk Up behind the sub if it gets a chance, or simply straight up fire off free attacks. If Lumineon is the only defensive check to Floatzel on the opponent's team, then Floatzel can essentially set up all over it and proceed to sweep, and will definitely punch some holes if it can stay behind a sub when revenge killers try to RK it.

Crunch (lol) is the preferred coverage move of choice over Ice Punch or Frustration for a few reasons. 1) it can hit Lumineon, Politoed and Lapras for neutral damage, unlike Ice Punch. 2) It can still hit Gourgeist for super effective damage, which having Frustration would not allow it to do. 3) It's better than Brick Break

Of course, opposing bulky grasses would have to also be chipped a bit for Floatzel to actually sweep, but overall it's pretty effective at luring Lumineon.

Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Lumineon is usually a pretty free switch in to Pelipper to take a scald, etc. This Pelipper takes advantage of that fact by being able to fire off strong hurricanes - thus hurting lumineon a lot and making it less able to check the things it should be checking. Pelipper can use Lumineon as an opportunity to set up agility. The ev spread lets Pelipper outspeed base 91 scarfers after an agility.
0 SpA Pelipper Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Lumineon: 118-139 (34.5 - 40.6%) -- 51.5% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery (usual Pelipper, however hurricane isn't a common coverage move on defensive Pelipper)

This Golduck set is pretty neat. It takes advantage of Lumineon's passive nature with Substitute. Neither U-Turn or Scald will even come close to breaking the Sub and Golduck will then be free to fire off Scalds or start Calm Minding up worry free. This set also uses some common-ish threats such as Prinplup, Defensive Pelipper, and Gourgeist without Seed Bomb as setup fodder. Cloud Nine is used to check all forms of weather semi-reliably(Outspeeds Sand Rush Stoutland, Adamant Leafeon, and Most swift swim users.

So here is some heat for you because I couldn't find a cooler lure. Lumineon is commonly brought in on SpD Camerupt because it can Defog away Stealth Rock, take any hit especially fire moves and threaten Camerupt with Super Effective Scald. Power Herb Solar Beam let's you surprise Lumineon as it switches in and do a ton of damage and has a good chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock damage. Solid Rock means Scald can't take out Camerupt from full so you can finish Lumineon off if you need to. This set is also good for luring other water types like Politoed and Prinplup.

To celebrate the release of Sun and Moon demo and Ash Greninja, I felt it was only fair to use our own frog for this week. Frogadier maybe outclassed in speed and power to things like Floatzel, Basculin, Gorebyss, etc. But it does have a nice niche in Protean combined with a fantastic movepool. Luminion is often the teams only water switchin which Frogadier can dismantle with a nice stab HP Grass to stop it in its tracks. What I like about this set is that is so unpredictable that it can obliterate defensive cores all by itself which allows it's team mates to finish off the rest of the team. This set not only destroys Luminion but it also 2hkos other water checks like Prinplup, Chinchou, Politoed and even the annoying Clefeary. The first three attacks are very self explanatory with gunk shot nailing things like Clefeary and Chinchou while doing respectable damage to Audino. Your choice for a water stab to hit pesky Fire Types, and HP grass for water-mons. The last attack is very flexible and would depend on your team's needs. STAB U-turn is great for pivoting around and causing nice chip damage, while Ice Beam can be used to flat-out destroy defensive cores by hitting bulky grasses, Altaria, and Vullaby. Lastly, Taunt and Toxic spikes are nice utility moves that can cripple your opponents team in the long run and secure that juicy W.
Have fun with our dollar store Frog. Cheers!
