Monotype Kommo-o (Fighting) [GP 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Kommo-o is a great offensive Pokemon on Fighting teams thanks to its access to a unique Z-Move in Clangorous Soulblaze, boosting all of its stats by 1 while simultaneously dealing great damage to the majority of the metagame. In addition to this, Kommo-o boasts a great secondary Dragon typing with useful resistances to types like Fire and Grass, giving it the ability to check many dangerous offensive Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y and Tapu Bulu, while its above-average bulk and set of resistances allow it to set up on a wide range of defensive Pokemon such as Zapdos. Kommo-o also has access to decent utility options, most notably Taunt, which specifically allows Kommo-o to stop Haze users such as Toxapex and Mantine from clearing its stat boosts and recovering HP, preventing them from checking it. Despite this, Clangorous Soulblaze is quite risky and situational due to the prevalence of Fairy-types that can switch in on it and waste it. Furthermore, it is one-time use, meaning Kommo-o only has a single opportunity to set up and sweep throughout the game, which is made worse by the fact that Kommo-o's lacking offensive stats leave it heavily dependent on its Z-Move in order to deal significant damage. Kommo-o is also outsped by many offensive Pokemon and common Choice Scarf users such as Latios even after a boost. Additionally, Kommo-o's typing leaves it with a quadruple weakness to common Fairy-types that can constantly pressure Kommo-o with their STAB moves and switch into its Z-Move with ease. Other weaknesses to common types such as Dragon and Ice limit its setup capabilities, as faster Pokemon such as Latios and Kyurem-B can always force it out with their STAB moves.

Moves
========

Clanging Scales is Kommo-o's most powerful and spammable move and allows it to use Clangorous Soulblaze, denting the majority of Pokemon that do not resist it and boosting all of Kommo-o's stats. Flamethrower rounds out the coverage very well, as it can hit Steel-types such as Skarmory and Mega Scizor as well as certain Fairy-types such as Tapu Bulu and Klefki, which all wall Kommo-o otherwise. Taunt shuts down more passive Pokemon such as Swampert and Hippowdon by preventing them from recovering HP, spreading status, and neutralizing Kommo-o with Haze and phazing moves. Close Combat's main use is for breaking past specially defensive Pokemon like Alolan Muk and Chansey that would otherwise wall Kommo-o. Earthquake can be used over Close Combat in order to hit Electric-types such as Tapu Koko while still hitting key targets like Alolan Muk and Heatran for super effective damage. Lastly, Drain Punch is another viable alternative over Close Combat that increases Kommo-o's longevity against walls like Chansey in tandem with Taunt.

Set Details
========

252 EVs in Speed alongside a Naive nature maximizes Kommo-o's Speed stat in order to outspeed as much of the metagame as possible without sacrificing its damage output. The rest is invested into Special Attack in order for Kommo-o to fulfill its role as a specially biased mixed sweeper. Bulletproof gives Kommo-o a far easier matchup against Mega Venusaur when combined with Taunt by making it immune to Sludge Bomb and also allows it to pressure certain Pokemon such as Blacephalon. Kommonium Z is required in order to give Kommo-o access to Clangorous Soulblaze.

Usage Tips
========

While Kommo-o can be a very dangerous late-game sweeper with Clangorous Soulblaze, it is extremely important to be selective when deciding when to set up, since it only works once throughout the game. Specifically watch out for potential Fairy-types, as they can waste its Z-Move and proceed to check it with their STAB moves. However, Kommo-o can switch in on certain Fairy-types such as Tapu Bulu, giving it some use in the matchup. Use Clangorous Soulblaze once all of its checks and counters such as Mega Diancie and Latios have been weakened or KOed in order for Kommo-o to effectively sweep later in the game. Kommo-o serves as a great answer to problematic Poison-types like Mega Venusaur and Toxapex, so it is recommended to safely bring it out on these Pokemon in order for its teammates to have an easier time later on. Use Taunt when expecting a potential Haze from Mantine and other problematic status moves like Leech Seed from Mega Venusaur before attempting to set up. Kommo-o should remain healthy before attempting to sweep, as it becomes far easier to revenge kill once chipped down, especially since it has no reliable way to recover HP. It is important to avoid status, as Kommo-o's Speed is crippled by paralysis and it can be easily worn down by poison and burns.

Team Options
========

Kommo-o benefits the team by providing the role of a good special setup sweeper, something Fighting usually lacks. Mega Gallade is an excellent partner for Kommo-o, as it is a great wallbreaker that can punch holes into troublesome Pokemon like Kyurem-B early-game in order to give Kommo-o a great opportunity to sweep. It also eases Kommo-o's load in the Poison matchup, serving as an additional check to Toxapex and Mega Venusaur. Keldeo is another wallbreaker that aids Kommo-o in important matchups such as Ground thanks to its immediate power and coverage. Choice Scarf Terrakion offers a terrific way of keeping faster foes in check in problematic matchups like Flying, outspeeding the majority of the metagame and revenge killing many important Pokemon such as Tapu Koko while Kommo-o can pressure defensive Pokemon like Skarmory for it. Entry hazard support from Cobalion goes very well with Kommo-o's ability to force many switches and gradually wears down its checks. Cobalion also offers an important neutrality to Fairy, being able to survive attacks such as Mega Diancie's Moonblast. Additionally, its Thunder Wave support somewhat alleviates Kommo-o's mediocre Speed stat, and Volt Switch helps provide momentum. Heracross and Buzzwole both help Kommo-o with the problematic Psychic matchup due to their Bug typing, with the former being able to Pursuit trap threats and the latter sporting incredible physical bulk. Breloom can potentially give Kommo-o a safe opportunity to set up thanks to its access to Spore and provides the team with a secondary setup sweeper with Swords Dance. Kommo-o covers its Fire weakness very well in return. Hawlucha offers support by providing hazard removal while outspeeding nearly the entire metagame after an Unburden boost, allowing it to clean through faster foes such as Latios for Kommo-o.

[COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Soundproof can be used over Bulletproof in order to have a better matchup against Ditto and opposing Kommo-o, but this comes at the cost of its matchup against more important Pokemon like Mega Venusaur. A physical set consisting of Dragon Dance, Close Combat, Poison Jab, and Clanging Scales can turn Kommo-o into a decent physical setup sweeper in tandem with Clangorous Soulblaze, but this set cannot check Pokemon such as Toxapex and Mega Venusaur nearly as well due to the lack of Taunt.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Nearly any Fairy-type such as Mega Diancie or Mimikyu can take advantage of Kommo-o's quadruple weakness and prevent it from using its Z-Move, constantly pressuring it.

**Dragon-types**: Kommo-o lacks the Speed to outspeed most opposing Dragon-types, which can almost always OHKO it. Once boosted, it is still threatened by Choice Scarf users such as Latios.

**Psychic-types**: Kommo-o lacks the power to break past Psychic-types such as Mew and Mega Gallade, which can proceed to KO it in return.

**Revenge Killers**: Although its bulk is quite impressive once boosted, Kommo-o's average Speed and dependence on moves that lower its defenses allow faster revenge killers like Choice Scarf Greninja to beat it.

**Status**: Kommo-o dislikes all forms of status. Paralysis can cripple its Speed stat while poison or burn can quickly wear it down throughout the match.

* Kommo-o heavily depends on its Z-move in order to deal significant damage throughout the game, as its offensive stats leave a lot to be desired before boosting. Additionally, it is outsped by many offensive Pokemon and various Choice Scarf users such as Latios and Greninja after a boost. Perhaps talk about how there is no flexibility for Kommo-o to use another item since the uses for Kommonium Z are far too great.
* Additionally, Kommo-o’s typing leaves it with a quadruple weakness to common Fairy-types such as? that can constantly pressure Kommo-o with their STAB moves and switch into its Z-Move with ease.

Don't trust me on this point, cause I never really see enough Fighting teams in general, but idk about having Taunt as a move. I've always come to see Kommo-o as a setup sweeper w/ 4 attacks or 3 +DD, but never Taunt. I'd ask a QC on that.

* Use Taunt when expecting a potential Haze from Toxapex and other problematic status moves like Leech Seed from Mega Venusaur before attempting to set up. You use Pex and Venu too often as examples for Kommo-o. It's not a bad thing, though I'd also mention Taunt's uses from Whirlwind/Roar users like Pert and Skarm.
* It is important to avoid status, as Kommo-o’s Speed is crippled by paralysis and can be easily worn down by poison and burns.
Also mention the repercussions of using Clanging Scales excessively; as lowering its defense constantly brings the threat of powerful physical priority from Dragonite and Mamoswine.

* Soundproof can be used over Bulletproof in order to have a better matchup against Ditto and opposing Kommo-o, but this comes at the cost of its matchup against more important Pokemon like Mega Venusaur. Also mention Azu's Perish Song.
* Due to the amount of switches in can force, Kommo-o can compress the role of a Stealth Rock setter decently well, though it comes at the cost of Close Combat's general utility against more specially defensive Pokemon.
I'd also talk about Dragon Dance on Physical Variants of Kommo-o, as it allows offensive pressure w/o using Clangorous Soulblaze prematurely. Focus Blast could also be put as an option over CC to allow a nature that doesn't lower a defensive stat such as Timid, as well as considering Fighting has plenty of physical attackers in Terrakion, Breloom, Mega Gallade and etc. that Kommo-o can go without a physical STAB.

**Status and Residual Damage**: Kommo-o dislikes all forms of status. Paralysis can cripple its Speed stat while being poisoned or burned can quickly wear it down throughout the match.

**Haze/Phazing** I'd still mention this anyways~

**Mimikyu** I feel like this mon alone is the single-best counter to anything Kommo-can do, being immune to both of its STABs, shields itself from one attack through Disguise and can ohko Kommo-o despite a defense boost.

* In addition to this, Kommo-o boasts a great secondary Dragon typing, giving it the ability to check many dangerous offensive Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Mega Charizard Y. Be a little more specific on the (important) resistances that a Dragon-typing provides.
* Kommo-o's above-average bulk and set of resistances allows it to set up on a wide range of defensive Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur. I don't think that Mega Venusaur is a good example for this bullet since its resistances/bulk isn't the reason that it beats MVenu, rather ability + taunt.
* Kommo-o also has access to decent utility options, most notably Taunt. Just combine this with the below bullet, they're the same point.
* Taunt specifically allows Kommo-o to avoid Haze users such as Toxapex and Mantine from clearing its stat boosts and recovering HP, preventing them from checking it.
* Despite this, Kommo-o’s unique Z-Move is quite risky and situational, and it is only usable once throughout the game and completely nullified by opposing Fairy-types that switch in on it. Explain why it is risky and situational, then make the only usable once part a separate (lol) bullet since you can expand on the downsides of that

Maybe rephrase so its not like you're suggesting to hard switch into these? If you are, hard switching into leech seed is super bad vs mvenu or the rare toxic toxapex.

**Fairy-types**: Nearly any Fairy-type can take advantage of Kommo-o's quadruple weakness and prevent it from using its Z-Move, constantly pressuring it. I don't think that mimikyu needs its own slot like C9 suggested, but give two examples here (one can be mimikyu)

**Dragon-types**: Kommo-o lacks the Speed to outspeed most opposing Dragon-types, which can almost always OHKO it. Once boosted, it is still threatened by Choice Scarf users such as Latios and Hydreigon.

**Psychic-types**: Kommo-o lacks the power to break past Psychic-types such as Mew and Mega Gallade, which can proceed to KO it in return.

QC 1/3 also do what you'd like from C9's AMQC, but not the haze/phaze in the c&c - you can add that if you want to stipulate "if Kommo-o is not running Taunt..." but it's on the main set.

* Due to the amount of switches in can force, Kommo-o can compress the role of a Stealth Rock setter decently well, though it comes at the cost of Close Combat's general utility against more specially defensive Pokemon. (At least mention what compressing this role does for Fighting-teams)
* A physical set consisting of Dragon Dance, Close Combat, Poison Jab, and Clanging Scales can turn Kommo-o into a decent physical setup sweeper in tandem with Clangorous Soulblaze, but this set cannot check Pokemon such as Toxapex and Mega Venusaur nearly as well due to the lack of Taunt. (I have reservations on making this OO, but you can leave it if you feel it is worth mentioning.)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Nearly any Fairy-type such as Mega Diancie and Mimikyu can take advantage of Kommo-o's quadruple weakness and prevent it from using its Z-Move, constantly pressuring it.

Paralysis can cripple its Speed stat while being poisoned or burned can quickly wear it down throughout the match.

Team Options:
- Include how Thunder Wave support from Cobalion is really good for Kommo-o's troubling Speed and being a good pivot with Volt Switch to bring Kommo-o in safely.

I think it's fine to leave Soundproof in OO. The only things you would need to worry about are Ditto, Perish Azu, and Hyper Voice users. They seem a bit more situational than Bulletproof. Not sure about Stealth Rock either but I guess that's alright. Implement any other changes you think is necessary from Namranan.

Overview:
Other weaknesses to common types such as Dragon and Ice limit its setup capabilities, as faster Pokemon such as Kyurem-B and Latios can always force it out with their STAB moves.
- switch the order of Kyurem-Black and Latios so it matches the Dragon/Ice type in the earlier part of the sentence.

Moves:
* Drain Punch. I don't think its necessary to slash the set, but talk about it in this section. Taunt+Drain Punch can be useful vs fat Pokemon like Chansey etc and is at least worth a mention here imo

Set Details:
252 EVs in Speed alongside a Naive nature allow Kommo-o to maximize its average Speed stat in order to outspeed as much of the metagame as possible.
- would mention Naive nature is also used to not weaken Kommo-o's attacks as well

Usage Tips:
- After the line about watching out for fairy-types to negate clangorous I would talk about how it can still be useful in Fairy Matchup, being a check to Tapu Bulu and being able to still take on Klefki for the team

Use Taunt when expecting a potential Haze from Toxapex and other problematic status moves like Leech Seed from Mega Venusaur before attempting to set up.
- would change your example to Mantine, Toxapex usually runs Baneful Bunker on both types rn

Team Options:
- would talk about Kommo-o in the first line and how it benefits the whole team

Mega Gallade is an excellent partner for Kommo-o, as it is a great wallbreaker that can punch holes early-game in order to give it a great opportunity to sweep.
- what does it punch holes into for Kommo-o give an example, like maybe Kyurem-Black.

Other Options:
Due to the amount of switches in can force, Kommo-o can compress the role of a Stealth Rock setter decently well, though it comes at the cost of Close Combat's general utility against more specially defensive Pokemon.
- remove this completely. Stealth Rock Kommo-o is very bad and its not really like Fighting is competing for team slots due to its very limited options, so forgoing cobalion to run sr kommo is bad

Checks & Counters:
**Dragon-types**: Kommo-o lacks the Speed to outspeed most opposing Dragon-types, which can almost always OHKO it. Once boosted, it is still threatened by Choice Scarf users such as Latios and Hydreigon.
- this one is optional but Hydreigon rarely runs Choice Scarf on either type since both have access to better scarfers

[OVERVIEW]

Kommo-o is a great offensive Pokemon on Fighting teams thanks to its access to a unique Z-Move in Clangorous Soulblaze, boosting all of its stats by 1 while simultaneously dealing great damage to the majority of the metagame. In addition to this, Kommo-o boasts a great secondary Dragon typing with useful resistances to types like Fire and Grass, giving it the ability to check many dangerous offensive Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y and Tapu Bulu, (comma) Kommo-o's while its above-average bulk and set of resistances allows allow it to set up on a wide range of defensive Pokemon such as Zapdos. Kommo-o also has access to decent utility options, most notably Taunt, (comma) Taunt which specifically allows Kommo-o to avoid stop Haze users such as Toxapex and Mantine from clearing its stat boosts and recovering HP, preventing them from checking it. Despite this, Kommo-o’s Kommo-o's unique Z-Move is quite risky and situational due to the prevalence of opposing Fairy-types which that can switch in on it and waste its Z-Move. Furthermore, Clangorous Soulblaze is a one-time use move, meaning Kommo-o only has a single opportunity to set up and sweep throughout the game, (comma) which is made worse by the fact that Kommo-o's lacking offensive stats leave it Kommo-o heavily depends dependent on its Z-Move in order to deal significant damage throughout the game, as its offensive stats leave a lot to be desired before boosting. (optional, regrouping) Kommo-o is also outsped by many offensive Pokemon and common Choice Scarf users such as Latios even after a boost. Additionally, Kommo-o’s Kommo-o's typing leaves it with a quadruple weakness to common Fairy-types that can constantly pressure Kommo-o with their STAB moves and switch into its Z-Move with ease. Other weaknesses to common types such as Dragon and Ice limit its setup capabilities, as faster Pokemon such as Latios and Kyurem-B can always force it out with their STAB moves.

Moves
========

Clanging Scales is Kommo-o’s Kommo-o's most powerful and spammable move and allows it to use Clangorous Soulblaze, denting the majority of Pokemon that do not resist it and boosting all of its stats. Flamethrower rounds out the coverage very well, (AC) as it can hit Steel-types such as Skarmory and Mega Scizor as well as certain Fairy-types such as Tapu Bulu and Klefki, which all wall Kommo-o otherwise. Taunt shuts down more passive Pokemon such as Swampert and Hippowdon by preventing them from recovering HP, spreading status, and neutralizing Kommo-o with Haze and phazing moves like Roar and Whirlwind from Pokemon such as Swampert and Hippowdon. Close Combat’s main use is for breaking past specially defensive Pokemon like Alolan Muk and Chansey that would otherwise wall Kommo-o.

Set Details
========

252 EVs in Speed alongside a Naive nature allow Kommo-o to maximize its average Speed stat in order to outspeed as much of the metagame as possible without sacrificing its damage output. The rest is invested into Special Attack in order for Kommo-o to fulfill its role as a specially biased mixed sweeper. Bulletproof gives Kommo-o a far easier matchup against Mega Venusaur when combined with Taunt (RC) becoming by making it immune to Sludge Bomb (RC) and also allows it to pressure certain Pokemon such as Blacephalon. Kommonium Z is required in order to give Kommo-o access to Clangorous Soulblaze.

Usage Tips
========

It is important to avoid status, as Kommo-o’s Kommo-o's Speed is crippled by paralysis and it can be easily worn down by poison and burns.

Team Options
========

Kommo-o benefits the team by providing the role of a good special setup sweeper, something Fighting usually lacks. Mega Gallade is an excellent partner for Kommo-o, as it is a great wallbreaker that can punch holes for into troublesome Pokemon like Kyurem-B early-game in order to give it Kommo-o a great opportunity to sweep. It also eases Kommo-o's load in the Poison matchup, serving as an additional check to Toxapex and Mega Venusaur. Keldeo is another wallbreaker that aids Kommo-o in important matchups such as Ground thanks to its immediate power and coverage. Choice Scarf Terrakion offers a terrific form of Speed control way of keeping faster foes in check in problematic matchups like Flying, outspeeding the majority of the metagame and revenge killing many important Pokemon such as Tapu Koko while Kommo-o can pressure defensive Pokemon like Skarmory for it. Entry hazard support from Cobalion is greatly appreciated as it goes very well with Kommo-o's ability to force many switches and gradually wears down its checks. Cobalion also offers an important neutrality to Fairy, allowing it being able to survive attacks such as Mega Diancie's Moonblast. Additionally, its Thunder Wave support from it allows Kommo-o to somewhat alleviates Kommo-o's its mediocre Speed stat, (AC) and Volt Switch allows for helps provide momentum.
