ASSIGNMENT #2

Builders, your niche assignment is as follows:

NICHE PROFILE: Covering Your Bases 1
OBJECTIVE: Find a Pokemon that can provide insurance against two top threats!
  • Pokemon must act as a hard or soft check to Swords Dance Fletchling.
  • Pokemon must act as a hard or soft check to Scarf Chinchou.
  • Pokemon must hard check at least one of the given Pokemon.
  • For the purposes of this assignment, a soft check is a Pokemon which can, when brought in against a resisted coverage move or otherwise unharmed, force out or revenge KO the opposing Pokemon.
  • For the purposes of this assignment, a hard check is a Pokemon which can reliably switch into and force out or KO the threat at least once without the threat of being KOd.

Needs very little explanation. Comes in on most attacks either can throw at it and forces them out. Can get up rocks and stuff.

Ability: Volt Absorb
Level: 5
EVs: 76 HP / 212 Def / 152 SpA / 60 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Heal Bell
- Scald
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Chinchou stops the momentum of the other Chinchou while 2HKOing with HP Grass. I chose HP Grass as this stops the excellent Chinchou counters of Goldeen and Wooper from switching in with ease. HP Grass also helps versus Digletts and Drilburs who will occasionally switch in on HP Ground once it is revealed. Scald is more than enough for Magnemite anyway. A combination of Scald and Volt Switch will beat Fletchling; Fletchling will lose to either, though it can SD on the switch in Roost on Volt Switch, SD again, and then OHKO with Acrobatics assuming Stealth Rocks are indeed up. Scald is the safest option because of this unlikely event. Ice beam or preferably Thunderbolt can be added in place of Heal Bell to make it impossible to be outplayed by Fletchling or Drifloon. Heal Bell is nice to prevent Scald burns from being awful however. Notably, Fletchling is outspeed meaning it cannot weaken Chinchou with +2 U-turn.

Ancient Power wooper, can you feel the power!?!?! Reasoning behind slapping Ancient power? After a scald burn your left in a stand still of scald roost acrobatics my friend, But! 10% chance for all stats to be boosted while simultaneously having burn beats the roost stall. Ancient power also has a small chance to 2 hit k.o fletchling on its own

Wooper @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 76 HP / 236 Def / 156 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Ancient Power

Onix @ Berry Juice
Level: 5
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 76 HP / 236 Atk / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt

Can check Scarf chou as long as Sturdy is intact.

Best Mon ever!

Swinub @ Focus Sash
Level: 5
Ability: Oblivious
EVs: 116 HP / 196 Atk / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Endeavor

This thing is beautiful. It usually KOs Diglett, Fletching and Chinchou with STABs AND can function as a great suicide lead. If you'd prefer even better results against those mons, try Adamant. Just be sure to keep hazards off the field...

Helioptile @ Berry Juice
Ability: Dry Skin
Level: 5
EVs: 4 HP / 192 SpA / 96 SpD / 196 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 1 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 SpD
- Volt Switch
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Thunderbolt

Helioptile can check easily both mons because of electric type + water inmunity. Also bj is for longevity instead of scarf, lo or another item used in lc uu

Porygon @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
Level: 5
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 196 Def / 156 SpA / 156 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Tri Attack
- Psychic
- Thunder Wave
- Recover

Porygon is a great check to both these Pokemon. With Trace, you can prevent Chinchou from using Volt Switch to gain momentum (which is something I think a lot of people are missing), and you have great bulk that lets you check Fletchling. Combine that with great offensive presence and you've got yourself a formidable tank.

196+ Atk Fletchling Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 196 Def Eviolite Porygon: 7-10 (30.4 - 43.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

156+ SpA Porygon Tri Attack vs. 156 HP / 52 SpD Fletchling: 15-18 (65.2 - 78.2%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

(15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 18)]

232+ SpA Chinchou Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Porygon: 9-12 (39.1 - 52.1%) -- 12.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

(9, 9, 9, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 12)

156+ SpA Porygon Tri Attack vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Chinchou: 13-16 (54.1 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

(13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 16)
