To avenge Stortamus, Its A Random sends out - oh my another Gligar! Holden and newcomer Capers stare each other off - just like looking in an angry mirror! Holden's reflection quickly fades however as Capers unexpectedly bolts away. Spitting at his foes cowardice, Holden concentrates on increasing his speed, then using his newfound Agility pursues his doppelganger without hesitation.
Thanks to already superior speed, Holden catches up to Capers in no time at all, but to his annoyance finds that his foe has begun a Swords Dance. In attempt to distract him, Holden jabs at his dancing lookalike with his Poison Sting, but despite injecting an effective dose of Poison the dance continues and boosts Capers' attack.
However, Holden loses no confidence. Delighted that he has poisoned his opponent, he darts around Capers and Night Slashes in the back. Preparing himself for the possibilty of having to flee again, Capers takes the hit with a grunt and focuses on trying to match Holden's incredible velocity, boosting his speed with Agility just as Holden's starts to wear off!

Alright, that was good, Holden.

Let's go right at Capers with a Wing Attack. Then hit him with a Sand Attack. Finish the round off with another Wing Attack.

Okay Capers, time to get serious, Start the round with a +2 Night Slash, then use your +2 Speed to dodge the Sand Attack & Counter-punch him from behind with a nasty +2 Night Slash. Hopefully we get some crits & Sand Veil doesn't ruin us...

Ok small issue but I accidentally gave Capers too little defense last round, so I bumped up his HP for this round a little.

The next round begins with great aggression - clearly both Gligars feel that this clay arena just isn't big enough for two flying scorpions. Clashing violently, Capers swiftly Night Slashes at Holden who counters with a Wing Attack.
Holden then attempts to direct the still swirling sands at Capers, but unexpectedly the now speedier Gligar dives downward, using his Sand Veil to avoid the Sand Attack - ironic, yes?
Holden then attepts to locate the camoflauged creature but to no avail - that is until Capers stealthily approcahes from behind and strikes Holden with a dishonorable Night Slash to the back. Once again enraged by Capers' apparent cowardice, Holden quickly spins around and strikes his shifty foe with a sweeping Wing Attack, which spins Capers around for a full 360, so that the two Gligars once again find themselves face to face; a mirror image.

Props to Holden for expending only 8 energy this round by utilising extremely low energy Stab attacks!

Okay Capers, a really great round that time, good job. Impish nature is paying off big time. Same thing as last time. Just Night Slash it, if it uses Sand Attack, just evade it & Night Slash it from behind.

+1 Night Slash > +1 Night Slash > +1 Night Slash
Sub appropriate Night Slash for Evade if opposing Gligar uses Sand Attack, & make the next Night Slash hit from behind.

Lol brilliant. So nothing really happens this round, cbf giving real narration for that.

Alright, Holden, great work.

Let's go back on the offensive with a Wing Attack. Then Chill. Then go for another Wing Attack.

Holden, once again having the higher speed, decides to begin things with a Wing Attack. Capers however shakes this off and begins dancing to boost his attack. Other than the slight damage from Holden, the Swords Dance goes off without any pronlem.
Holden jumps back a bit upon realising he's starting to get a bit tired, and decides to chill. Capers meanwhile is focused on boosting himself further and using the break in Holden's assault as a chance to meditate in peace, calms his mind and increases his speed with Agility.
Once again holding the speed advantage, Capers wastes no time in getting behind his opponent for a Night Slash! The strike lands right in the ridge of Holden's back - a critical hit! In apparent agony, Holden attempts to get revenge by utilising his Wing Attack once again, but fails to connect - by the time he turns around, his speedier foe is already lost amongst the sand.
That coward.

A +2 critical hit Night Slash & it only does 2 damage...How does that work?

Okay, I want you to use your +2 Speed to Night Slash that Gligar three times, all of them from behind. If he uses Sand Attack, add an evade before the Night Slash.

Summary of Actions:
Night Slash from behind > Night Slash from behind > Night Slash from behind
If the opposing Gligar uses Sand attack, add (Not sub) an Evade to the appropriate action.

Okay, Holden. You did well. Let's see if you can't hang in there and stall Capers out of energy, though.

Start the round off with a Harden. Then hit Capers with a Wing Attack. Finish the round out with another Harden.

And so the mirror match continues! Running rings around his opponent, Capers has no trouble delivering a Night Slash to an ungrateful Holden's back. Realising his predicament, Holden elects to try a more defensive approach, Hardening its carapace in preparation for the oncoming assault.
Inattentive of Holden's efforts to defend himself, Capers lashes out with Night Slash once again, blissfully unaware that his attack did not have quite the same impact. Holden does realise this however, and feels confident enough to go back to attacking, using his weapon of choice - Wing Attack!
Capers, though strained from poison and his overuse of Night Slash continues to use it, still ignorant of its lessened effect. Holden however decides to weaken his opponents attacks further in an attempt to stall him out, and hardens once again. Afterwards however, he nearly collapses in exhaustion, his energy at a minimum.

We have no time to lose, Capers. Start out with a Swords Dance, make it two, then finish up with a nasty +4 Night Slash from behind.

Summary of actions:
Swords Dance > Swords Dance > +4 Night Slash from behind
We need the KO Counter real bad. A Critical hit should finish this. It is inevitable that we will end up losing this match, but we can't let him win 2-0.

Still carrying some lingering speed, Capers decides to begin the round by boosting another stat - attack! Capers starts performing elaborate areial movements, a clear example of Swords Dance. Not particularly worried, Holden goes in to heckle him a trusty Wing Attack.
Ignoring all interruptions, Capers continues dancing away, so the other Gligar decides to simply sit back, chill, and enjoy the show.
However it is not long before Capers decides to make it clear that this show is not to be enjoyed - at least not by Holden anyway. Virtually steaming from sheer power, and...MISSES with Night Slash. Perhaps he really was put off by Holden's hapless heckling, or perhaps that Sand Veil has gotten the better of Its A Random's pokemon once again - Stortamus Sand Stream is clearly more trouble than its worth. Regardless, Holden acknowledges his close Shave and decides to go defensive once again with Harden.

And...The miss Screwed us big time...

Chill > Night Slash from behind > Night Slash from behind
Add an Evade before the appropriate action if the opponent uses Sand Attack.

We desperately need a critical hit, otherwise, we are clearly going to lose 2-0. gg Wikey.

Alright, Holden, let's see what we can do here.

Sit back and Chill. When he goes to deliver the Night Slash keep him in front of you and prepare for the impact with a Harden. Finish out strong with a Wing Attack.

The two Gligars once again face each other. Both battle worn and weary, both looking very ragged, both knowiong their own limits and each others, they agree to take a break and chill. Holden burrows underground and returns with what appears to be a wooden table, meanwhile Capers shoots over to the food stand at the back of the stadium and comes back with a round of drinks. The two gligars then spend ten minutes or so drinking, laughing and chatting about Gligar things like flying, and burrowing, and accidentally poisoning yourself as you sleep, and what the fuck are we supposed to be anyway?
It is at this point in the conversation that angry shouts from Wikey and Its A Random remind them what they are here for. Capers smashes the table and drinks aside (Hey! I wasn't done with that!) and jumps over Holden in an attempt to get behind him. Holden however, turns to face his opponent and braces himself for the oncoming Night Slash with Harden.
Holden, still angry at the loss of his drink lashes out with Wing Attack. Capers once again leaps over his opponent and this time succeeds in striking Holden in the back - Holden is this time unable to turn around due to his outstretched position after the attack, and to make matters worse the reaching stance opens up a small gap in Holden's carapace, allowing Capers to score a Crtical Hit with Night Slash! With this fatal blow, Holden is at last pushed just beyond the brink of conciousness (1/2 a hit point in fact) for the KO. However, his last thoughts for the day are satisfied ones: Almost defeated TWO pokemon...

Wikey will now send out a new Pokemon and issue commands. Although, it's unlikely Capers will last much longer...

Good job, Holden. Underwood will come out and finish things off.

Just Ice Punch Capers until he faints.

Yay, we're going to lose 1-0...You did your best Capers, at least we didn't disgrace ourselves in our first battle. Just Chill, then Earthquake & then Chill again.

We will be knocked out this round, that's a foregone conclusion. gg Wikey, you deserve the win as the better player on the day. :)

Satisifed with a long, difficult victory, Capers accepts his fate and simply chills as Newcomer Underwood simply wailson him with Ice Punch.
~~~
So You guys both get 2 TC.
Holden, Capers and Underwood get a KO counter each.
Stortamus, Capers, Holden and Underwood all get 1 EC, DC and EC.
I get some Ref tokens and stuff.
Good game guys, this was fun to ref. So much hax against IAR but what are you going to do?
Random, I did notice that you had a dangerous tendency to spam moves repeatedly, which is very costly in terms of energy. Also I realised, and Wikey obviously figured it out too that STAB Wing Attack is much stronger than Night Slash; if if NS crits its only slightly stronger, so I'd consider investing in that or at least some other move for Gligar (can he learn Acrobat? That could be powerful too with no items).
Eh, It was a good game, you were a good ref Lord Jesseus. My main problem is inexperience & I'm only a newcomer. Congratulations to Wikey, he was obviously the better player & the Sandstorm obviously worked in his favour. I did also have some bad luck along the way & a strategy that is fairly predictable, but it's all part of experience. So, with my first battle done, time to go to the Prize Claiming thread & see what I can do with this KO Counter that Capers has.
All in all, this was a fun battle, 15 rounds made for a fairly long battle & I'm looking forward to my future matches. Maybe a rematch not too far in the distant future? But yeah, I hope the spectators enjoyed this battle & Lord Jesseus, you were a great ref, while Wikey made a formidable opponent.
Cheers!
Its_A_Random
Thanks to both of you. Was really fun.
Yeah, I had Holden learn Acrobat a few days after this battle started. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but it should be nasty. Your combo of Hippo and Gligar should prove to be intimidating for people who don't have a Sand Veil mon of their own. With how long everything lasts relative to cartridge there are a lot more opportunities for Sand Veil hax.
