It's good to be King(ler)

First Warstory

So a little intro to me and my team. I've been playing for a year, year and a half, most of my time with UU or NU teams. If you haven't tried an NU team, give it a try. It's fun, as well as challenging.
But enough about me and my sub-standard teams. This is a match of mine on Pokemon Lab, so sadly still Generation IV. It's still worth reading, and hope you enjoy it.

This is my team:
[pimg]348[/pimg] [pimg]26[/pimg] [pimg]78[/pimg] [pimg]93[/pimg] [pimg]99[/pimg] [pimg]338[/pimg]
Armaldo, Raichu, Rapidash, Haunter, Kingler, Solrock.

Clauses:
1 v. 1,
6 Pokemon per team,
Species Clause, Classic
Sleep Clause,
OHKO Clause,
Classic Freeze Clause,
Strict Damage Clause,

Evasion Clause,
Griseous Orb Limitation,
Soul Dew Clause

Let's begin.

greengreens sent out Armaldo (lvl 100 Armaldo ♂)! ComatoSE sent out Gengar (lvl 100 Gengar ♂)!

[pimg]348[/pimg] vs [pimg]94[/pimg]

So, I'm dealing with a counter lead. The rapid spin on my Armaldo is useless, but Gengar's not about to put down any rocks himself. Though there's really no chance of an OHKO from Gengar to Armaldo, the Sub-Split set would be annoying, so I start by going on the offensive.

Turn #1
Gengar used Focus Blast!
Armaldo lost 46% of its health!

Armaldo used Knock Off! It's super effective!
Gengar lost 22% of its health! Armaldo knocked off foe Gengar's Focus Sash!

Armaldo's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Armaldo (60%) vs. Gengar (78%)

[pimg]348[/pimg] vs. [pimg]94[/pimg]

A bad first turn for both players. I overestimated Armaldo's offensive prowess (he wouldn't have broken a sub) and my opponent seems to have forgotten about Armaldo's bug typing, or decent bulk. But he has no Life Orb, which is nice to know, and probably won't sub next turn. I'll go with stealth rock.

Turn #2
Gengar used Shadow Ball!
Armaldo lost 49% of its health!

Armaldo used Stealth Rock! Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

Armaldo's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Armaldo (17%) vs. Gengar (78%)

[pimg]348[/pimg] vs. [pimg]94[/pimg]

Well, it's not looking good for my Armaldo. If he eats a Shadow Ball, he's going down. So, I'm resigned to my first KO. Nothing is worth switching in. But, he may predict me switching, and throw up a sub, so I decide to Rock Blast, just in case.

Turn #3
Gengar used Shadow Ball!
Armaldo lost 17% of its health!

Armaldo fainted!

greengreens sent out Haunter (lvl 100 Haunter ♂)!

Haunter (100%) vs. Gengar (78%)

[pimg]93[/pimg] vs. [pimg]94[/pimg]

RIP Armaldo. But don't worry-- my little ghosty is here to avenge you.
So I send out my little revenge killer, Haunter. I know I'll win in terms of speed because of my max speed stats plus the Choice Scarf. With respectable 329 SpA, I'm confident Gengar's is out of luck.

Turn #4
Haunter used Shadow Ball! It's super effective! Gengar lost 77% of its health!

Gengar fainted!

ComatoSE sent out Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune)!
Suicune is exerting its Pressure!

Pointed stones dug into Suicune! Suicune lost 12% of its health!

Haunter (100%) vs. Suicune (88%)

[pimg]93[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

So 5-5 thus far, and I have Stealth Rocks up. He sends out Suicune, the aqua Hound. It can be so annoying. I gotta switch out. It'll eat my Shadow ball with guacamole and wash it down with a Surf (on me). Gtg. I decide on Raichu, with excellent speed and special attack, plus Grass Knot and Discharge, he'll make a decent counter.

Turn #5
greengreens withdrew Haunter! greengreens sent out Raichu (lvl 100 Raichu ♀)!
Suicune used Calm Mind!
Suicune's special attack was raised! Suicune's special defense was raised!

Suicune's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Raichu (100%) vs. Suicune (94%) (+1SpA,+1SpD)

[pimg]26[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

OMG SUCH AN ORIGNAL SET! But I won't deny, that's annoying. Surviving a Surf/Hydro Pump won't be so easy now. Plus, the increased bulk isn't making me happy. So- I do the obvious thing. BRAVO! BRAVO!

Turn #6
Raichu used Encore!

Suicune used Calm Mind!
Suicune's special attack was raised! Suicune's special defense was raised!

Suicune's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Raichu (100%) vs. Suicune (100%) (+2SpA, +2SpD) (Encore)

[pimg]26[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

So, this isn't great. He's buff and getting buffer, which isn't making my day. I don't really have any physical attackers to deal with Suicune, so I'll just Nasty Plot, and hope my Life Orb will be enough do do some damage.

Turn #7
Raichu used Nasty Plot!
Raichu's special attack was sharply raised!

Suicune used Calm Mind!
Suicune's special attack was raised! Suicune's special defense was raised!

Raichu (100%) (+2SpA) vs. Suicune (100%) (+3SpA, +3SpD) (Encore)

[pimg]26[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

Gotta boost more. Won't be able to kill it yet, even with Grass Knot.

Turn #8
ComatoSE withdrew Suicune!
ComatoSE sent out Flygon (lvl 100 Flygon ♂)!

Pointed stones dug into Flygon! Flygon lost 6% of its health!

Raichu used Nasty Plot! Raichu's special attack was sharply raised!

Raichu (100%) (+4SpA) vs. Flygon (94%)

[pimg]26[/pimg] vs. [pimg]330[/pimg]

Okay, this is my biggest slop. He didn't regain health from any leftovers, so he's probably holding a Choice Scarf/Band, a Life Orb or a Yache Berry. We tie on speed at 100 base each, and I have my speed maxed. So, there's a good chance he doesn't outspeed me if he's Adamant, instead of Jolly. Plus- who wants to give up +4 SpA for nothing? Well, let's take a look at how it turned out.

Turn #9
Flygon used Earthquake!
It's super effective! Raichu lost 100% of its health!

Raichu fainted!

greengreens sent out Haunter (lvl 100 Haunter ♂)!

Haunter (100%) vs. Flygon (94%)

[pimg]93[/pimg] vs. [pimg]330[/pimg]

I was angry at myself here. Now the score was (4-5), and I lost my boosted Raichu. I switch into Haunter for the obvious Earthquake immunity, assuming a Flygon had a Scarf. If not, he'll have on next turn.

Turn #10
ComatoSE withdrew Flygon!
ComatoSE sent out Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune)!
Suicune is exerting its Pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune! Suicune lost 12% of its health!

Haunter used Trick!
Haunter obtained Leftovers! Suicune obtained Choice Scarf!

Haunter (100%) vs. Suicune (88%)

[pimg]93[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

So, the predicted switch occurs and I throw a scarf onto Suicune. Excellent. I can safely assume his EV's are built around health and defense, seeing as it's using Calm Mind. He must have a water move, almost definitely rest, then either ice beam or sleep talk. I can't be sure. But now I am free do do some other stuff.

So, let's have a little status report:

[pimg]348[/pimg] Armaldo: Back to being a fossil.
[pimg]26[/pimg] Raichu: Pushing up the daisies.
[pimg]93[/pimg] Haunter: Scarfless and in danger of catching a cold.
[pimg]78[/pimg] Rapidsh: Still resting.
[pimg]99[/pimg] Kingler: Walking sideways.
[pimg]338[/pimg] Solrock: Dozing.

[pimg]94[/pimg] Gengar: The After-After Life.
[pimg]245[/pimg] Suicune: Scarfed and unhappy.
[pimg]330[/pimg] Flygon: Scarfed and pleased with itself.
[pimg]201[/pimg] ????: Mysterious.
[pimg]201[/pimg] ????: Enigmatic.
[pimg]201[/pimg] ????: Secretive.

Moving on. Next status report in 10 turns.

Turn #11
Suicune used Surf!
Haunter lost 98% of its health!

Haunter used Perish Song!
All affected Pokemon will faint in three turns!

Haunter's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!
Suicune's count fell to 3!
Haunter's count fell to 3!

Haunter (8%) (Perish Song 3) vs. Suicune (88%) (Perish Song 3)

[pimg]93[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

I was lucky to survive that. In retrospect, Thunderbolt may have paid off more than Perish Song, because he won't be Calm Minding anymore, but what's done is done. I'm leaving Haunter to fight another day. He's outta there.

Turn #12
greengreens withdrew Haunter!
greengreens sent out Kingler (lvl 100 Kingler ♂)!

Suicune used Surf! It's not very effective...
Kingler lost 44% of its health!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!
Suicune's count fell to 2!

Kingler (62%) vs. Suicune (88%) (Perish Song 2)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

Not happy. Kingler can't take special hits at all, even resisted ones. How sad. Substitute isn't a good idea, because I'll be down to minimal HP after one more surf, so I go on the offensive, with X-Scissor.

Turn #13
ComatoSE withdrew Suicune!
ComatoSE sent out Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross)!

Pointed stones dug into Metagross! Metagross lost 6% of its health!

Kingler used X-Scissor!
Metagross lost 20% of its health!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Kingler (68%) vs. Metagross (74%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]376[/pimg]

Oh gosh. Not so great, but I'm not really panicking. Yet. Kingler is pretty bulky on the physical side, and can take a hit. He resists Metagross's STAB, so perhaps I can nail him with a Crabhammer.

Turn #14
Kingler used Crabhammer!
Metagross lost 35% of its health!

Metagross used Meteor Mash! It's not very effective...
Kingler lost 36% of its health!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Kingler (38%) vs. Metagross (39%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]376[/pimg]

He can't Bullet Punch me for the kill without a critical hit (even then, unlikely), and I outspeed, so I might as well go again. See if my higher critical hit rate pays off.

Turn #15
ComatoSE withdrew Metagross!
ComatoSE sent out Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune)! Suicune is exerting its Pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune! Suicune lost 12% of its health!

Kingler used Crabhammer! It's not very effective...
Suicune lost 20% of its health!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Kingler (44%) vs. Suicune (56%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

I'm not in the mood to take a Surf and another risk KO with Kingler. I decide to offer up Haunter to appease the angry hound.

Turn #16
greengreens withdrew Kingler!
greengreens sent out Haunter (lvl 100 Haunter ♂)!

Suicune used Hidden Power! Haunter lost 7% of its health!
Haunter fainted!

greengreens sent out Solrock (lvl 100 Solrock)!

Solrock (100%) vs. Suicune (56%)

[pimg]338[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

Why switch in Solrock? It's Calm with full HP and SpD EV's, and can take a Hidden Power Electric. At least, that's what I assume Suicune just used, because if it were grass, it wouldn't have been very effective on Haunter. (Though still resulting in a KO). Of course, it could be a neutral Hidden Power too-- or ice—anticipating a switch. I don't know. Let's, move forward, 3-5.

Turn #17
ComatoSE withdrew Suicune!
ComatoSE sent out Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross)!
Pointed stones dug into Metagross!
Metagross lost 6% of its health!

Solrock used Substitute! Solrock lost 25% of its health!
Solrock's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Solrock (81%+Substitute) vs. Metagross (33%)

[pimg]338[/pimg] vs. [pimg]376[/pimg]

Now, I'm not happy. STAB Meteor Mash will eat me up. Plus I'm not defensively invested. All I can do is what I do- use Cosmic Power and hope to pass it the next turn via Baton Pass.

Turn #18
Metagross used Meteor Mash! It's super effective!
Solrock's substitute took damage for it!
Solrock's substitute faded!
Metagross's attack was raised!

Solrock used Cosmic Power! Solrock's defense was raised! Solrock's special defense was raised! Solrock's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Solrock (87%) (+1Def, +1SpD) vs. Metagross (33%) (+1Atk)

[pimg]338[/pimg] vs. [pimg]376[/pimg]

That attack boost pisses me off. He can still OHKO Solrock with Meteor Mash. The defense boost could have saved me. It turns out, however, all that thinking was irrelevant.

Turn #19
Metagross used Explosion!
Metagross lost 33% of its health!

Metagross fainted!

It's not very effective... Solrock lost 87% of its health!

Solrock fainted!

greengreens sent out Rapidash (lvl 100 Rapidash ♂)!
ComatoSE sent out Shaymin (lvl 100 Shaymin)!
Pointed stones dug into Shaymin!
Shaymin lost 12% of its health!

Rapidash (100%) vs. Shaymin (88%)

[pimg]78[/pimg] vs. [pimg]497[/pimg]

I did not see that coming. I realize now he's confident he's won, and can easily handle my last two Pokemon (1 being my already damaged Kingler) with no trouble at all. So Metagross explodes. I suppose he didn't want to risk missing with meteor mash, allow me to set up more cosmic powers, and pass it on. Makes some sense, I suppose. 2-4

I choose Rapidash because it's still at full health and unknown. It's luckily paired up with Shaymin, who obviously anticipated Kingler.

Turn #20
Shaymin used Protect! Shaymin protected itself!

Rapidash used Substitute! Rapidash lost 25% of its health!

Rapidash's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!
Shaymin's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Rapidash (81%+Substitute) vs. Shaymin (94%)

[pimg]78[/pimg] vs. [pimg]497[/pimg]

A good turn for me. I anticipated either a leech seed or earth power. Either way, being faster (unless it's scarfed too), setting up a substitute is a good way to test what he does. And I get a free turn out of it. Excellent. It's a good thing I didn't even consider Flare-Blitz. Just too risky if he switched into a Heatran. Still haven't seen his last guy, have I?

I plan to use agility now, so I can pass it on if he uses Earth Power, or hit him hard if he uses Seed Flare/Air Slash. I don't know his set, but it's probably a Sub Seeder, due to the protect.

Status Report:
[pimg]348[/pimg] Armaldo: Deep under.
[pimg]26[/pimg] Raichu: Down for the count.
[pimg]93[/pimg] Haunter: Vaporized.
[pimg]99[/pimg] Kingler: Still kicking (crawling?)
[pimg]338[/pimg] Solrock: More like Sol-Fragments.
[pimg]78[/pimg] Rapidash: Subbed and pumped.

[pimg]94[/pimg] Gengar: Out.
[pimg]245[/pimg] Suicune: Still with the scarf.
[pimg]330[/pimg] Flygon: Ditto. (Not the pokemon.)
[pimg]376[/pimg] Metagross: An expert in Combustion.
[pimg]497[/pimg] Shaymin: Angry.
[pimg]201[/pimg] ?????: So secretive Sherlock Holmes can't even figure out its identity.

Let's wrap this up. 2-4, not looking so great for me.

Turn #21
ComatoSE withdrew Shaymin!
ComatoSE sent out Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune)! Suicune is exerting its Pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune! Suicune lost 12% of its health!

Rapidash used Agility!
Rapidash's speed was sharply raised!

Rapidash's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Rapidash (87%) (+2Spe) vs. Suicune (44%)

[pimg]78[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

Even better. Another turn to boost, if I so choose. It means Shaymin is without a doubt a Sub-Seeder, and unable to break my substitute. But this Rapidash is so frail the Seed Flare could probably take care of it. Anyhoo...time to pass this speed to someone who can use it.

Turn #22
Rapidash used Baton Pass!

greengreens sent out Kingler (lvl 100 Kingler ♂)!

Suicune used Surf! It's not very effective...
Kingler's substitute took damage for it!
Kingler's substitute faded!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Kingler (52%) (+2Spe) vs. Suicune (44%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

A critical surf will kill me and any chance of victory. I don't think X-Scissor can OHKO Suicune, so I've gotta take a risk. I'm using Swords Dance.

Turn #23
Kingler used Swords Dance! Kingler's attack was sharply raised!

Suicune used Surf! It's not very effective...
Kingler lost 45% of its health!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

Kingler (15%) (+2Atk, +2Spe) vs. Suicune (44%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]245[/pimg]

Yes! I didn't die! Now, with over 700, probably more like 750Atk, I can safely KO this fella. X-Scissor away!

Turn #24
Kingler used X-Scissor!

Suicune lost 41% of its health!

Suicune fainted!
Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

ComatoSE sent out Flygon (lvl 100 Flygon ♂)!

Pointed stones dug into Flygon!
Flygon lost 6% of its health!

Kingler (21%) (+2Atk, +2Spe) vs. Flygon (88%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]330[/pimg]

Yes! 2-3 Already better! Now, you'll remember this Flygon has a Scarf, but I have an agility. I'm going with Crabhammer, which is STAB, but not super effective. 85% accuracy...will I hit?

Turn #25
Kingler used Crabhammer!
Flygon lost 87% of its health!

Flygon fainted!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

ComatoSE sent out Shaymin (lvl 100 Shaymin)!

Pointed stones dug into Shaymin!
Shaymin lost 12% of its health!

Kingler (27%) (+2Atk, +2Spe) vs. Shaymin (82%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]497[/pimg]

(2-2). Moving on to Shaymin. That would be threatening if I didn't have my boosted speed. X-Scissor!

Turn #26
Kingler used X-Scissor!
It's super effective! Shaymin lost 81% of its health!

Shaymin fainted!

Kingler's Leftovers restored 6% of its health!

ComatoSE sent out Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ♂)!

Pointed stones dug into Heatran!
Heatran lost 12% of its health!

Kingler (33%) (+2Atk, +2Spe) vs. Heatran (87%)

[pimg]99[/pimg] vs. [pimg]490[/pimg]

Wow, Kingler just took out three pokemon. I've turned the tables. 2-1 for me. How, all I need is one Crabhammer to finish this-- cuz my Rapidash only carries Flare Blitz, missing here means I lose....

Turn #27
Kingler used Crabhammer! A critical hit!
It's super effective! Heatran lost 87% of its health!

Heatran fainted!

[pimg]99[/pimg]

greengreens wins!

Yes! Victory! 2-0! I even get a critical hit now when I don't need it! Woohoo! I feel exhilarated. Gotta pay my respects to a game well played.

@greengreens: gg
@ComatoSE: haha gg

My opponent isn't angry. I like that. It was very close. Had he stopped Kingler's momentum, the game would have been his.

Props:
*Haunter for doing more damage than his Gengar
*Metagross and Flygon for hitting me hard.
*Kingler for saving the day.
*ComatoSE for laughing about it at the end.
*Zero hax, not even any status. One crit that didn't matter. I'm not counting that.

Slops:
*Solrock for doing nothing.
*Raichu and Armaldo who did basically nothing. (Stealth Rocks were pretty useless against ComatoSE)
*Gengar for not shadow balling immediately, though it did about the same amount of damage.
*Shaymin and Heatran for eating X-Scissor and Crabhammer respectively.
*Me for letting Raichu die.
*ComatoSE for exploding on Solrock, not Kingler. Would have been a very different game, my friend.

MVP is of course, Kingler.
[pimg]99[/pimg]

I'd say we played at about the same level of skill. I hope I won't generate too much hatred for using an NU team. I don't want to be the Rebecca Black of Warstories.

Anyhoo...thanks for reading!

I don't think this should be in Dragonspiral, being gen IV and all, but on to the story itself:
You have decent commentary, showing some insight and thought processes (although, when do you see a non-scarfed Adamant Flygon?) . Your opponent wasn't the greatest, but since you were using a UU/NU team, that is acceptable. Sprites would really help the story though. There's a good source for them here.

Where are the pictures??
The formatting is bad w/o pictures. Couldnt really follow through =/.
Battle was mediocre at best though.
Final Score:6/10

I enjoyed the battle. Your commentary provided good insight into your strategy as well as keeping the viewer appraised of the situation. Despite the lack of pictures (not necessary, really) the spacing was such that I had little trouble following the battle. For the battle itself, it was decent, as there were no obvious misplays and you can hardly expect Eo versus reach with an NU team. While there are some that would malign you for that fact I enjoy reading warstories that aren`t cookie-cutter standard.

Overall, a solid job.

Side note: I think the warstory does belong here with Stark being moved to the Ruins of Alph. With Gen 4 battles still doing a strong trade there would certainly be the interest in reading them.

Side-side note: Kefka, if you`re reading this, I`m still waiting on a warstory of your Magikarp sweep.

First warstory and first post... hmm...

Strangely, your commentary isn't so bad at all. However, one of your comments:

He didn't regain health from any leftovers, so he's probably holding a Choice Scarf/Band, a Life Orb or a Yache Berry. We tie on speed at 100 base each, and I have my speed maxed.
surprised me because you weren't conservative at the next turn and let your Raichu die while his Flygon had a high probability to be a Scarfgon, thereby outspeeding your rodent: you should have switched to Haunter at this point. Sprites would have been better.

Format: 6/10
Battle: 7/10
Commentary: 6/10
Overall: 6/10

Also, this warstory should be at Stark Mountain, not here.

EDIT: Sprites are back? Well, I change your Format mark to 8. These points are taken from your Battle mark (from 7 to 5) after re-reading your warstory.

that was my biggest slop. in retrospect, it was totally obvious.

you're right. unchoiced adamants are slightly nonexistent.

and thanks! i'll use that next time (or if i edit this one)

A fairly good battle: you managed to win with deep NU Pokemon, no mean feat. Great commentary, but lacking elsewhere. Sorry. 7.5/10

Good commentary, but the battle wasn't that great.

6.5/10 I guess.

Side-side note: Kefka, if you`re reading this, I`m still waiting on a warstory of your Magikarp sweep.
D:
I don't think I saved it.
I think I have my Feebas sweep saved though.

I think your MVP should Rapidash. It set the field for Kingler's sweep perfectly, and Kingler didn't do much by itself without the Agility boost.

I thought this would be terrible upon seeing your team but I was pleasantly surprised. Good commentary and interesting battle, I like how you won with NUs against a full OU team.

7.5/10

Pokemon Lab, eh? Yeah, I've battled the likes of Comatose myself, in-fact. NU also still seems to be the trend on ol' PL, which is nice. You should come to PO and reap the rewards of a Sheer Force boosted Waterfall, though.

HAhaha wow budomking...i barely remember that battle myself XD....and admittedly my team did suck at that time...i was trying out something new...

but its cool..not making any excuses for losing....no matter how sucky my team was it was all ou and it should have been able to beat a nu team...so kudos to you :)

Ps : this probably explains why i never used that team again XD

You dont come on poke lab anymore? ...cause i dont see you around...we should battle soemetime...and i promise i wont be this much of a jackass XD

Wow, a battle on PL, that seems...odd. Anyways, you finally got Comatose to post, which is always nice. I think the battle was fairly good, but you need to provide slightly better commentary. 7/10

The battle itself wasn't very good, but the commentary made up for it. I loved the "status report" thing you did throughout your post. Keep up the good work, but try to make your warstories a little more visually appealing in the future.

6/10 for the battle, 8/10 for everything else
