Gym League

It's here! The Gym League is finally opening! For first time readers, the gym league is one of the highest tiers of battling in the community. You face off against other members of the community, who have been deemed capable of running a gym. Gyms here work similarly to that of the gyms in cartridge, in that the leader uses a Monotype team. But they also get an arena, all of which are made public to help your planning for the battle.

Rules
  • Gym Leaders may have varying battle formats, which are posted with their arenas.
  • All Gym Leaders run two versions of their gym, Normal Mode and Challenge Mode.
    • Normal Mode: The arena is tuned down, and the leader only brings one additional Pokemon.
    • Challenge Mode: High power level arena, the leader brings 3 additional Pokemon.
  • You may only have 2 challenges at a time.
    • The queueing for gym challenges prioritizes users without an ongoing challenge before considering challenge order.
    • This is regardless of mode, only 2 challenges total. Not 2 of each.
  • Gym Leaders only can take on up to 2 challengers at time. Excess challengers are logged into a queue that is addressed in order as matches finish.
    • Similar to above, 2 challengers total, Not 2 of each.
  • After losing a gym battle as the challenger, you are unable to challenge that gym again for 3 days.

Rewards
For the most part, rewards for gym battles are the same as standard battling rewards elsewhere. However, the referee gets a bonus of +50% (x1.5) to the UC payout.

Upon winning a Gym Battle as the challenger you get all of the following, in addition to the standard rewards for battling:
  • Type Boosting item for that Gym's type (Charcoal for Fire Gym, Twistedspoon for Psychic Gym, etc)
  • The Gym's Badge (named or unnamed)
  • The reward that corresponds with the number of badges for the appropriate mode(s).
For modal rewards, a Challenge Mode badge also counts as a Normal Mode badge for that gym. If you already have the Normal Mode badge for that gym, do not add the Challenge Mode badge to the count of gym badges you have for Normal Mode. A Gym Leader is considered to have the badge for both modes for that gym.
1 badge: 1 of Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi or Azurill
2 badges: 1 Hyper Potion
3 badges: 1 Mega Stone of the challenger’s choosing

Turn order: Challenger sends first
Arena: Four Island Skating Rink: Agape
The best part of challenging the Ice Gym is that every challenger gets front-row seats to the Four Island Figure Skating Exhibition. The line to get inside the skating rink is so long that it stretches out the door all the way to the harbor. Hundreds of loyal fans have waited for hours, hoping to get tickets to see the well-renowned show, but you smugly walk past them, flashing the VIP Access badge that the Gym League had sent you at the door and ignoring the dirty looks being directed at you.

It's a little unfair, but you can understand why they'd be so upset; tickets for the Four Island Figure Skating Exhibition are normally extremely hard to get. Though the exhibition expressly forbids re-selling their tickets, there are rumors that Mr. Stone paid over a thousand dollars to buy a ticket under the table. Many would consider that a fair price for having the opportunity to see the legendary performance.

The frosty rink is packed to the brim with excited fans, and it takes you a while to get to your seat. You take a seat just in time for the lights of the arena to dim down. A spotlight shines at the edge of the rink, as a young woman wearing a sky-blue kimono and wooden sandals fitted with the blades of ice skates glides onto the ice.

The music begins to play, a boy soprano singing a soft, nostalgic melody that soothes the hearts of even the roughest of the spectators. Though you cannot understand the lyrics, the song evokes a feeling of protective, unconditional love. The woman skates in a playful, almost childlike manner, gracefully twirling over the ice in a carefree manner that seems almost effortless. She jumps into the air, both arms raised over her head, and lands as softly as a feather, as the audience roars with applause. As the song comes to a close, she bends her body back and goes into a spin, gradually slowing down and finally stopping with her arms raised to the heavens.

Suddenly, a spotlight shines directly at you. "Now, let's welcome our next act," the skater shouts cheerily, withdrawing a Pokeball from her kimono. "Come on down. Let's see our challenger try his hand at earning the Aurora Badge."

As you make your way down to the rink, you notice that the extreme cold of the skating rink will make it difficult to summon a weather other than hail, and the large size of the rink will cause an attack that's wide enough to hit multiple Pokemon to be weaker than usual. In addition, the leader's graceful skating encourages your Pokemon to be more agile; they'll move too quickly for a Drain Punch to connect for long enough to drain health, and the height of the leader's jumps inspires your Pokemon to focus their Earthquake attacks and make them erupt just as high.

The song that played during the leader's performance starts to play again. The leader's expression softens. The nostalgic melody reminds her of her own experiences as a new starting Trainer. "I remember I used to have a lot of trouble saving up money for items. If there's an item that you don't have, I'd be happy to lend you one from the Gym's storerooms." She's being merciful now, but you'd better hurry up and finish the battle quickly before she changes her mind.
Effects
- Players can use any purchasable item, even if they do not own it.
- Weathers, except for Hail, cannot be used without a weather stone.
- Drain Punch costs 6 less EN and has no additional effects.
- Earthquake can also be used as a single target move that ignores Hovering.
- Final damage of spread moves is divided by 1.5, replacing the normal spread move BAP penalty.

Codifications:
- All resources are available.
- Nature Power calls Blizzard.
- Secret Power has a chance to freeze the target.
- Camouflage turns the user into an Ice type.

"I hope you're ready to fight! I won't go on easy on you." Your Pokemon are equally eager. The music inspires them to step outside their comfort zone and use moves that they usually wouldn't be able to, and it also makes them more alert, so they'll hold on to their held items more closely.

- Final damage of spread moves is divided by 1.5, replacing the normal spread move BAP penalty.
- All Pokemon have access to their form-exclusive moves, even if they cannot normally learn them.
- Damaging moves that affect the opponent's items have no additional effect.

Codifications:

3v3 Singles (Gym Leader brings 4)

Effects:
- Default weather is Artificial Acid Rain. AAR acts like normal rain, but Psychic-type moves are weakened instead of Fire-type moves. It cannot be replaced without weather rocks. The AAR is safe for humans and Pokemon, but it does slightly effect the brain power of Pokemon. Don't worry though, it will only weaken their attacking moves that use their brains, so you don't have to sue us.
- Toxic Poison now starts at 2 damage per action. Being around so much poison helps strengthen the effects poison, causing more damage.
- Fissure fails when used. How are you able to cause a Fissure in a pool?

Codifications:
- Camouflage: Poison
- Nature Power: Sludge Bomb
- Secret Power: 30% Chance to Poison
3v3 Singles (Gym Leader brings 6)

Effects:
- Default weather is Amplified Artificial Acid Rain. AAAR is kinda like normal rain, but with a lot of added effects. All of the effects are: Boosts the BAP of Water moves by 3, Weakens the BAP of Psychic moves by 3, all Pokemon lose 1 HP per action unless they are Poison, Water, or Bug-type, activates rain abilities, and does not weaken the power of weather based healing moves or Solar Beam.
- Normal Poison now deals 3 damage per action, Toxic poison Starts at 2 DPA. Being around so much poison helps strengthen the effects poison, causing more damage.
- When a Pokemon is Poisoned, the Gastro Acid effect is put on the Pokemon for 6 actions. Resets if a poisoned Pokemon is switched out and comes back in still poisoned. The pool helps amplify the effects of poison, causing Pokemon to lose some of their special power for a little while.
- Fissure fails when used. How are you able to cause a Fissure in a pool?

Codifications:
- Camouflage: Poison
- Nature Power: Sludge Bomb

And with everything above, we are now accepting challengers!

If you have any questions, DM me either on Discord or on here.
If you are looking to become a Gym Leader, inform me, and keep your eyes peeled for gym qualifier threads.

Challenge posts simply need to state which gym you are challenging, tagging the leader, specifying which difficulty, and reposting and updating the queue.

Good luck to all!

Oh I should clarify for both Geodude6 and nightblitz42 - I made an error in putting the arena in the OPs. Challenge Mode does not allow mega evolution.

Alert me if this results in a change in your decision to challenge the gym.

Look at my shiny CT!
It doesn't change my decision but it does change the team I'll bring
